Visited BarBacoa on a rainy Saturday night for dinner. Got reservations for 2 earlier in the day and highly recommend as this place gets packed very quickly. Paid valet and self parking around the corner. Seated quickly. This place has been hyped up for a while now among people I know, and it didn't hit the mark for me. Service was lackluster as we had to hound our server pretty often to get anything which understandable with staffing shortage so it's fine. However, we ordered quite a bit of food and drink and nothing was memorable. I had the house margarita which was pretty meh with muddled flavors. As for dinner, we ordered a range of tapas including the baked queso, Spanish potatoes, Mac and cheese, sautéed mushrooms, beef empanadas, carne asada, and mussels. Despite so much food, none of it was amazingly tasty. Everything was cooked well but seasoning just wasn't there. Despite the lackluster flavoring, I understand the appeal of this spot with a great location in VaHi and a fun atmosphere! read more

We can here for an early dinner for two and will definitely be returning soon for another visit . We opted to sit at the bar and were very glad we did . The bartender was very friendly and attentive and the service bar side was very pleasant. The restaurant has a laid back neighborhood feel with a cool after work vibe . We started with house margarita and a vodka flavored cocktail that had a delicious strawberry purée. The drinks were fresh and fairly pricey, very refreshing . We opted for the skillet queso, carne asada, Mexican street corn, and albondigas. All of the meals were delicious our favorites however were the carne asada and the street corn. I have been meaning to check out Bar.bacoa ever since the switch from Taco Cowboy. This is a really cool and casual tapas spot with a lively atmosphere. I ordered a Lamb Barbacoa Taco, Beef Barbacoa Taco, and the Chicken Tortilla Soup. Both tacos were delicious! The meat on each was so tender and well-seasoned. The Chicken Tortilla soup was served piping hot (just the way I like my soup) and was very flavorful. I also liked the crispy tortilla strips that came with it to add some texture. My sister and I visited last Friday for the first time. We sat at the bar where James and Scott provided excellent service. The tacos were awesome. The bacon wrapped dates were some of the best I've had. So good I got an extra order to go. The poblano and corn empanada was an explosion of flavor in your mouth. The cheese grits with the salmon are the best I've ever had and as a southern I am very critical about my grits. I will definitely make a weekly visit to this establishment. This is a great Tuesday taco night hang out. It's perfect for a date, to come with a friend, or a group of people. It is a bit small and can get crowded. But there is outdoor patio seating. This place used to be the Taco Cowboy, but now under new ownership. They have a great variety of tacos and other dishes on the menu. On Tuesdays all tacos are half-off except the lobster taco. You can't go wrong with any of the choices, they are all great! And their $7 house Margarita is really good, and they use a decent tequila...I believe El Jimador. Everyone can make queso but theirs stood above all others we have had... which told me that the rest of the meal would be a treat with that much attention given to something as simple as queso. They have limited seating so I recommend a booking but if you pop in last minute, like we usually do, they have a few tables in the breezeway and bar seating is open (first come, first serve). If you are a party of more than two, definitely make a booking. You really cannot go wrong with their drink menu, my favorite is the pineapple express and I have also had their margarita, both are delicious. My husband and I decided to try Barbacoa for the first time as we explore new restaurants this year. It did not disappoint. I do recommend making a reservation as COVID has made seating limited. We came at 6:30 and they had a table ready for us at least 6 feet from any others. The staff were wearing masks and gloves and we felt super safe and taken care of. The drinks were super yummy, highly recommend the Risky Business for something sweeter and seasonal, and the Stay Classy for something refreshing. The ambiance was also nice with good music and dim lighting (date night vibes). Everything we ate was 10/10!!!! I wasn't expecting the portions to be so generous. We definitely over ordered and over ate! My favorite was the Chile rubbed bbq salmon. Not sure what was better, the grits underneath or the salmon!! The chicken Tinga taco was also delish. Easy to find tapas place in the city with complimentary valet parking. We were glad that there was a place to park because that can be a nightmare on a Saturday night. When we got into the restaurant, we were told that they were completely booked for the evening but could try to snag a table outside or at the bar. Luckily a table outside opened up shortly after and we were able to sit down. They were able to clean the table very quickly and bring us an extra chair. The food: The three of us ordered 5 tapas and it was plenty. We even had leftovers. We got the octopus (delicious especially the sauce), barbacoa nachos (pretty good but nothing special), pork carnitas (so tender and flavorful), beef and potato empanadas (crunchy on the outside and beefy on the inside), and the paella. The paella was off tasting due to the burnt mussel shells that ruined the rest of the dish. The service: Could be better. We wanted to ask the server about the paella, but no one came back to our table after our tapas were delivered. Bar.Bacoa was equally a great and delicious experience. It is the newly opened restaurant in the Virginia Highlands area, used to be Taco Cowboy. I couldn't find it on maps for some reason but the address should be 1000 Virginia Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30306. They have some amazing tacos, I ordered the pork carnitas, beef barbacoa and lamb barbacoa. Favorite out of the three was definitely the lamb barbacoa, they were all decently priced for the quality at about $4-5 each. I went through a few cocktails while I was there too and had a few different tequila and gin ones. "The Smokey and The Bandit" seems to be their signature, it's made Watershed four peel Gin and roasted pineapple syrup (it had a really cool purple hue to it). I tried two of the drinks from their "The Good, The Bad & The Ugly Set". They use different Tanteo Tequilas for each one with a Tanteo Jalapeno, Tanteo Chipotle and Tanteo Habanero. I choose The Good and then The Ugly. I got a little overwhelmed with the Ugly first but after a few more sips it sat well. The experience was made even better by great service from my server Julien, he made delicious food and cocktail recommendations throughout the night. read more

This is my first time going to Bar. Bacoa. I had mild expectations for this restaurant from reading the Yelp reviews. My boyfriend and I went around 12:30 PM on a Sunday. We parked on the side of the street and reserved our spot using ParkMobile. We were seated very quickly. Our server's name was Burke. Scott, the host, helped the staff because they were short. They do have a patio that is dog friendly. However, they share it with 3 other restaurants. They have to get approval from the other places for your dog to be on the patio. I ordered The Dude ($11). I did not like my drink. I thought it would be a twist on a White Russian, but it was not the case. I did see another table that got a margarita, which looked delicious. My boyfriend tried the Chicken Tortilla Soup ($6). He likes the consistency and the stripes of tortilla that came with the dish was plentiful. I thought it looked pretty, but could use more seasoning. Next, we ordered our tacos: Shrimp Taco ($5), Brisket Mac & Cheese Taco ($5), and Lamb Barbacoa Taco ($5). The best taco out of the 3 tacos was the lamb. Our least favorite is the brisket. My boyfriend says, "There's something about the mac and cheese that doesn't go well with the taco." Lastly, we ordered the Serrano Mac & Cheese ($6) and the Crab Cakes ($12). These were my favorite dishes. The mac and cheese was flavorful and a big dish itself for a tapas. The chunks of ham was delicious. The crab cakes did not have that fishy-it's been sitting in the back for a while taste. It was garnished with cucumber, which I thought hurt the dish. Overall, the experience was good. This is not my favorite tapas place, but I would come back. I would order the mac and cheese as well as the lamb taco again, but I don't care for the other tacos. The only complaint is that the kitchen staff would walk back and forth into the restaurant with the prep food which lacked professionalism. Came here for a date night. I'd highly recommend making a reservation as it's hard to get your foot through the door if you are walking in. They are rather small and quite busy. We made a reservation, and were seated immediately. Our waitress took our drink order and brought out drinks within five minutes, and then took our food order and started to bring out food within another 5 minutes. I was hungry so I appreciated getting the food out fast, but our meal definitely felt rushed. I would've liked to have the tapas more spaced out so I could enjoy the ambiance more. The cauliflower was really good, but be warned - not everything cauliflower is healthy. This was completely drenched in butter and cheese. The cauliflower is sitting in a puddle of butter. But my gosh, it was delicious. The drinks were good. The margaritas were strong. The sangria was good as well, but I've definitely had better. The carnitas were also really good, some of the best I had. And the empanadas were also really good. For two people, I'd suggest getting two of the smaller tapas (under $10) and one larger one (more expensive, such as the cauliflower). Overall, Bar-Bacoa was a solid spot. read more

I really love this place! I've been a few times and have thoroughly enjoyed my experience everytime. The tapas style restaurant makes it easy to be adventurous with your meal. And to be honest, EVERYTHING is good! My friends and I did not skimp on our meal but we also did not leave a single bite to spare. The indoor seating section looked a little small at first glance, but we went straight to the patio and it was so stinking cute. It was raining pretty hard and we still remained safe. They share the patio with the neighboring restaurants but its actually super cute and super spacious, gives off european vibes. I highly recommend this place for the atmosphere, the service, the food, and the drinks but be aware it's in a pretty packed place and they parking is kinda tricky! read more

Me and my friend came here after walking the beltline and getting a sudden craving for tacos.(really not that sudden we're in love with tacos) After a quick Yelp search this popped up is being close which is great because I've been wanting to try it. And it was the perfect time to do so because we were able to just walk to the location instead of driving because parking in the area is not easy. We just grabbed a seat at the bar, although there was plenty of seating available at that time. The staff was very attentive and the service was quick. We ordered our drinks and received them in minutes. We both agreed those were delish and they had cute names based on movies. We both grabbed the brisket and Mac and cheese taco, the brisket was tasty but the Mac and cheese was just ok. I think it would've been better with baked Mac or just queso. I enjoyed the lamb barbacoa taco my friend enjoyed her Baja taco. We overheard another patron discuss her love for the skillet queso so then we ordered it and agreed it was very delicious. The customer service was as amazing. We had reservations, however, upon arrival we were informed by our host that our table was not ready. He was extremely nice so we didn't mind waiting. Our waiter, Matt, was great, and the manager came by our table as well as others to make sure everything was going well. I'll give the service and waiter 5 stars hands down. Our cocktails were great; we tried different ones and had no complaints. The food was pretty good. I didn't care much for the roasted cauliflower. It was kind of bland and sat in a runny milky sauce. The garlic Chile shrimp was delicious and so were the scallops. The lobster taco was okay. We were too full to order dessert but are definitely going back. We got the barbacoa quesadilla, carne asada, octopus, scallops, salmon, skillet queso, and octopus. The quesadilla is very tender and cheesy and paired with verde salsa, sour cream, and pico de Gallo. Probably the best quesadilla I've had in a long time. The carne asada is amazing and tender and paired well with a balsamic glaze. The cauliflower is a large portion! Make sure to come with enough people to share! I was craving tacos and decided to try Bar.bacoa, and I'm glad I did! These tacos were delicious and hit the spot. I got the two taco combo with a side of Mexican street corn (not pictured). Everything was amazing, but I'd probably get two of the barbacoa beef tacos next time and skip the Baja fish. Just personal preference! They have some unique flavors like brisket Mac and cheese taco which I'll probably try next time. The street corn was amazing, creamy, and had a hint of lime to spice things up. I called the store and explained the situation and they told me they would be happy to still prepare my food for me and I could come pick it up! And boy am I glad I did. Food was fantastic!
