I took my friend to Bar.bacoa for a girls dinner date & we found out it was Taco Tuesday! Meaning 50% off all tacos (except for lobster) which was so clutch!! We literally wanted to try so many and we did haha. I ordered the lamb barbacoa, grilled shrimp and trailer park (fries chicken, house queso, lettuce and pico de gallo). The grilled shrimp was my favorite for sure! I think it's because I liked the combo of ingredients the most (roasted corn,chipotle aoli, and black bean salsa). I kinda had higher expectations for the lamb barbacoa, it was okay just not as good as I thought it would be. The trailer park is the best seller per the waitress and I can see how, it's like a classic can't go wrong with it. We also ordered a side of Mexican corn and Spanish potatoes. The Mexican corn was really good! I would definitely recommend. The potatoes had an interesting vinegar like taste so we weren't really a fan of them. For drinks we ordered the Steve The Pirate and the House Margarita of the night which was infused with a raspberry flavored beer from a brewery in Asheville. I really liked the margarita I had it! It tasted very citrusy and fresh. My friends drink Steve the Pirate was sooo strong! It was like I had taken shot and I only had a sip. The hazelnut was very apparent in it as well and she really liked her drink. Lastly we had churros for desert and they were really yummy! And because this was Taco Tuesday the whole meal was such a deal! Without the drinks our meal was only $28.00 and $48.00 for everything! The restaurant jyseld is very beautiful and really spacious. We were seated out on the heated patio which was really comfortable despite the fact Atlanta decided to drop back down to 40 degrees this week! Our waitress was also really sweet too. We really liked her. She provided excellent service and made sure to check on us often. I know I'll definitely be back because there's more tacos I want to try :) UPDATE: I love Taco Tuesday!! Came back to try more. This time I got the special of the night which was the Salmon and tried the grilled chicken, along with the grilled shrimp again. Everything was delicious!! Virginia Highlands is a really nice area, and the food here is always so good. This restaurant is cute, but the space inside is small. When the bar gets full, and people are standing around, it can be hard to find the hostess stand. I would recommend putting them at the very front so people know where to go ask to be seated. The staff was very friendly, and the outside patio is really nice to enjoy on a beautiful day. Even sitting outside, we never felt neglected or forgotten about. They kept coming around, and the margaritas kept pouring in. They have tapas style plates, which were very good, but just a little spicy. The tacos were also very delicious. My recommendation is the Peruvian Taco - it was so flavorful! Highly recommend. read more

It was a last minute decision to come here with a friend before going to the airport, and one of the best decisions we made this trip! My friend and I each got one taco and a starter/side. The street corn was served in a small skillet and was a great portion for two to share. Great flavor, texture and balance. I had the opportunity to finally make it back here post-covid last night. Prior to the pandemic , this place had earned a spot in my rotation for good wholesome food and drink at good prices in a friendly atmosphere. I was happy to finally make it back here again. This space used to be Noche when I first moved to Atlanta. It was known for super casual inexpensive fare, and drinks. It was OK, but super cheap. I am happy to report that bar.bacoa continues this casual atmosphere, but with a better quality food and drink product. The operators who I have spoked with a few times, take pride in a bringing a unique Latin American spin on Tapas fare. To their credit, they applied this format before others have since made this adjustment to appeal to a wider swath of consumers (think Mercado). Before I move to the food, I will start with the bar and the drinks. Their drinks here are brisk! They make great margaritas, and often have drink specials. I am a Herradura drinker when I drink Tequila, so I was happy in speaking to Scott, one of the owners, that this establishment serves up an assortment of quality Herradura drinks. I also like the two European raised Columbian Bartender partners who often work behind the bar. Local Vihi residents have explained to me that both men have been stalwarts in the community for a long time. Both have been very accommodating when I come for drinks and tapas at the bar. There is a cool Korean run Columbian place in KTown in L.A. I am at often at called Escala with a similar hip, casual vibe. Now to the food. The service is always genuine and fairly prompt at the tables. My go tos for food are The Skirt Steak, The Beef Potato Empanadas, The Fried Chicken with Ancho Sauce, Grouper Tacos, Lamb Tacos, and Mushrooms. I have not tried any of their deserts as I'm often quite full. As Atlanta continues to add more and more "fancy" scaled, chain restaurants it nice to see a place with character doing well and holding its own. I dined here with a party of 6 for dinner prior to visiting the Garden Lights at the botanical gardens. We called ahead the same day for a reservation and had a nice table on their heated covered back patio. Everything on the menu looked great and I had trouble deciding what to order! The menu is divided between tapas to share and individual tacos. Here are some of the things we tried: * Salsa Duo * Guacamole * Whole Roasted Cauliflower * Octopus * Lobster taco My favorites of these were the octopus and the lobster taco. The taco was a perfect size! I loved the cauliflower as well. It's a large portion and can be shared with multiple people. While the guacamole was good I felt the portion was pretty small for the price. All in all I really enjoyed my visit and would definitely recommend checking them out. This place has a B rating, but I think I dined after their health inspection, and would not have expected it to a B until I left and saw the sign. It looks like they fixed their issues. I was craving some specialty tacos and this place did not disappoint. The brisket Mac n cheese is a staple, and maybe a little gimmicky, but still delicious. My favorite taco that I had was the Peruvian chicken taco. Just the right amount of savory flavor and the salsa/veggies they put on it was fresh AF. My favorite was the mac n cheese brisket taco, so much mac n cheese and so much brisket!! It was delicious. We also ordered paella $14, Crab Cakes $12, The Soprano $10, Stay Classy $10, Cucumber Vodka Cocktail that they made for me -- not sure what was in it $8, Spinach & Arugula $7, and Mexican street corn $6 I would get everything again. There is a large wrap around bar and is a classic neighborhood bar that is filled with regulars. There is ample space to stand behind those sitting at the bar and two TVs. The decor is kind of cigar-bar like, but also casual at the same time. There is a lot of seating outside, which was being utilized on this particular night because the weather was great for it. National Margarita Day 2020 Food was excellent and drinks were especially strong. I was very impressed with the service and the food. The bartender was slammed when we got there but he more than made up for it with awesome drinks. House margaritas were $5. We had the carnitas, fried goat cheese fritters, albonigas, and calamari. All of the food was amazing and came out at the same time. The carnitas were tender and juicy. The flavor was spectacular! The goat cheese fritters came with a sweet jelly that upped the flavor palate. Calamari was fried perfect. The meat balls were spicy but not too spicy. In the mood for Tex Mex and small plates, Bar.Bacoa seemed a no brainier for a recent date night with my fiance. We started with deliciously spicy and tart margaritad which complimented our food quite well. We ordered three items from the "tapas" side of the menu: the barbacoa nachos (subbing the beef barbacoa for lamb), paella, and a cucumber tuna tostada special our waitress recommended. She advised us that these three would be plenty of food for us, so we held off on sampling the restaurant's tacos. Our tostadas arrived promptly from the kitchen and while they looked tasty the first bite tasted disappointing. The individual elements all had good flavor (fresh guac, spicy mayo, rare spiced ahi), but the cucumber (literally) watered down the otherwise vibrant components. After that relative disappointment, our sheet pan sized plate of nachos arrived. These truly hit the spot and the portion was huge for $10. It came packed with plenty of juicy, superbly spiced lamb meat, a generous scoopful of cooling guac, and a nice drizzle of zesty queso which made the nachos super flavorful. Finally, our paella came to the table. This was served in a mini paella pan which made for a cute presentation. The paella lacked the crisp socarat bottom I love, but the rice had a significant amount of tomato, onion, and seafood flavor. The meats (save for one fishy tasting mussel) were all cooked properly and the dish, while not spectacular, was solid. Service ran smoothly and we enjoyed the cute shared patio for dining. The food prices here are fairly affordable, though our overall bill ran a little high given drink costs. Nonetheless, we will gladly return to Bar.Bacoa to sample more of the Tex Mex side of the menu and for awesome margs. 3.5 stars. read more

Finally made it into Bar.bacoa and it was absolutely delicious! I am counting down until the next visit... Ya girl loves tacos, so I was excited for another taco option in town! A few friends and I had just wrapped up at a beer festival around the corner, so a beautiful Saturday afternoon was a great excuse to hang out on the back patio of Bar.bacoa. They weren't too busy, but we visited at that awkward hour between lunch and dinner. We were greeted warmly and our service was A+ throughout the experience. Our table of 4 shared the barbacoa nachos to start. A mountain of chips covered in barbacoa, queso, shredded cheese, jalapenos, shredded lettuce, guac and sour cream. All the things = yumminess. Perfect starter! For my meal I had the brisket mac 'n cheese taco and the carnitas tacos. The brisket mac 'n cheese taco was super rich and every bite was bursting with gooey, cheesiness. The pickles on the top added a nice crunch and tartness. This taco alone can put you in a food coma! It's heavy but it's delicious. The carnitas taco was stellar as well. Generous amount of carnitas, red onions tossed in the avocado salad and roasted peppers on top. So yummy!
