Went on a Wednesday night, got a table right away. Food was good. Seabass tacos were phenomenal. Wedge salad was good. Cheeseburger was a cheeseburger, nothing bad about it. Filet mignon ordered medium rare came medium but was still tasty. Strawberry napoleon was fresh strawberries and fresh whipped cream, very tasty. The place is always packed, which makes it very loud. They still manage to keep it very clean with fast service. Everything I have ever eaten has been very good- but I don't recommend the place for picky eaters. My most recent visit I stopped by to grab a drink with my sister before going out. We sat at a table near the bar. Even though we didn't eat anything, the waiter still made sure to check on us. Although my gps sent me to the middle of nowhere when I finally arrived my friends and I were seated right away. That was very nice, considering the time I arrived and how crowded it was. This place is small and tightly packed. They are using every square inch possible. The tables practically abut each other and it's noisy. I can see why. The demand is there. There's a high turnover and it is chic! It's close to the Tilles Center. The food is very good and most arrived quickly enough but with so many patrons it can be hard to get your waiter/ waitress's attention. The drinks were okay. Bar Frites reminds me of every French style bistro ala French Roast that populates numerous Manhattan neighborhoods. The decor here is spot on with those places so if you're used to places like this, you'll feel right at home. The menu is pretty standard, lots of salads, French fare and some Italian inspired dishes like pasta and pizzettes. The food here is pretty good and it's a nice addition to the area. The hangar steak with frites is good - tender with the frites having the perfect balance of crispness and potato flavor. The baby fried chicken is also very well done - brined to perfection and fried to a perfect crisp without a hint of greasiness. Pork tenderloin was also good albeit a tad dry. Prices are reasonable and service here is very good. It's certainly a popular spot with the locals. Thumbs up. read more

Bar Frites is a social scene on steroids. It also happens to serve food. Don't expect anything great or cheap. It's just the price for entry to an energetic show of wealth and poor manners. Trust me. Not to be too harsh, some of the food is actually good. It's just not the real focus of the place. But, if you wanted to be seen in this scene there's a rather large parking lot there. It's in Wheatley Plaza. This shopping center spends hundreds of thousands of dollars for flowers in the spring, summer and fall. Plenty of boutique shops. Watch the fashion show walk by. I did enjoy my time here at bar frites, however, every single appetizer we ordered... was not good... from the pizza, to the calamari and then to the beef carpaccio, one worse than the next.. the beef carpaccio tasted like roast beef, it was pitiful especially since I have had AMAZING carpaccio elsewhere. Anyway, they def ramped up their score for the main entrees and thank god.. I think I had the winning dish which were seared scallops, probably some of the best scallops I've had in a while.. Seared to perfection and they were a fan favorite of the table, good for sharing. Other eats included the hanger steak, pork tenderloin, and braised short rib.... all were delicious and we really loved them.. initially we had been so upset by how bad the appetizers actually tasted and I was so surprised bc I have heard a lot of good things about the food here... I loved that they sliced the pork tenderloin and the hanger steak making it easier for all of us to share ! It was perfect... Def get a pitcher of white sangria, it was so good! read more

It's a surprisingly sunny day, and this place has a bunch of outdoor seating. I asked the host if they were serving outside. He said no. I asked if it would be 'cool' if we ordered to go, and sat out there. To which he replied, 'it wouldn't be cool, but you can do whatever you want.' Nice host! I wouldn't go again on a Saturday night. The staff couldn't quite handle the crowd. We had a reservation, but they didn't have a table, and there was no place to wait. We were constantly jostled by people trying to get into and out of the restaurant while we waited. (The bar was already packed three deep, so that was not an option.) My Bloody Mary was insipid; the French fries were cold; and the Bernaise sauce was completely tasteless. (That was a first. I've had bad Bernaise before, but it's never been tasteless.) If I could give 0 stars, I would! My family and I went into the restaurant and were seated indoors, but were then informed that my husband's male tank top wasn't allowed. When we asked if we could sit outdoors instead, the waiter said yes, and we were seated. After being served water and asked if we were ready to order, the manager approached us and told us we couldn't sit outside either. He said this in a joking, sarcastic tone but claimed he was serious. I pointed out that the waiter had said it was fine and questioned why we were seated in the first place. The manager responded that he was in control, so his decision was final. It quickly escalated to a condescending and dismissive tone. He essentially overruled the servers because he was the one "in control." The manager raised his voice in front of other customers, seemingly on a power trip. While we understand the importance of dress codes, this one seemed arbitrary--especially since their website does not publicly make a specific mention of a dress code. Whilst I understand that this is a French bistro, and it is genrally expected to dress in a smart casual attire- I noticed a female customer wearing flip-flops, short shorts, and a spaghetti strap top, so why wasn't a male tank top allowed? This incident occurred around 3:30 PM on Tuesday, 8/14, with the manager on duty at the time. We didn't quite get his name because he never introduced himself other than to say he was the one in "control." Sadly, he completely lacked customer service skills and ended up losing good business. I do not often write reviews but I had such a negative overall experience I felt I had to write. My husband and I eat out quite a bit as we are fortunate enough to live in the Manhattan. We have been to other restaurants in this group many times (e.g., Toku) and have always enjoyed ourselves, the food, and the ambiance. However, our evening at Bar Frites was very different. The maitre d' was extremely rude when we arrived. Our interactions with the seating staff was down right cold. Our waiter took 20 minutes to even ask for drinks and never introduced himself. He rushed through the conversation and barely made eye contact. When I asked for a classic cocktail he said there's no way the bartender could make it, he would not ask, and I could not order something not on the menu. He took a while to come back to take our orders and started walking away before we finished ordering. It's hard to summarize the condescension and disdain we received without writing a novel. Surprising from a restaurant in a suburban shopping center. The ambiance was loud and crowded but that did not bother me. It was Saturday night. The food was average. The fries were soggy (ironic since the name of the restaurant includes "frites."). The drinks were weak. I didn't even bother to look at a dessert menu. Very nice! Met a friend for lunch on a Sunday. We had a reservation as the place is bustling. First impressions are very good. Traditional, old world looking decor with tile floors and walls, tin ceiling tiles, wood and interesting lighting pieces. In some ways it reminded me of The Smith restaurants in Manhattan without the overbearing noise level. It was bustling with a din but you could have a conversation here. Service was prompt. Wine selection was very good. I ordered a "Seared Chatham Halibut" dish which was excellent. Served over some asparagus, royal trumpet mushrooms and a beurre blanc sauce. Excellent! Bar Frites is a solid (and very reasonable) French spot on the north end of Roslyn. Located in Wheatley Plaza, parking can be a mixed bag, but the lunch prix fixe worth the walk from your car! First time there. Table for three with comfortable chairs on the outside terrace. Friendly professional greeting. My friends have been there before. They recommended the lettuce wedge, delicious, with on the bone rib-eye that was grilled/baked to perfection. BTW, the Bryant Cooper steak sauce was excellent for alternating bites of the rib-eye. The waiter was very good. Though it is a little difficult with a mask on, I must say I appreciated the sensitivity of the restaurant owners making sure staff was gloved and masked during this difficult time. This location is great, right in a shopping center so there's plenty of parking and the restaurant itself is pretty big. It's a simple and cozy interior with wooden tables and chairs. Every time I've been, it's pretty packed with big groups of families and friends. I came with a group of 10 for brunch in New Year's Day and by 1 pm the place was bustling -- so if you're looking for a decent spot for a big group of people try Bar Frites (we ended up lingering well over an hour after paying and they didn't give us much of a hard time which was nice). Service was pretty ehhh when we came, but that may have been an anomaly since it was so packed. It took a while for our waiter to bring over ketchup and cool whip (we asked for it three times lol) and he messed my order. I've got mixed feelings about the food, some of our orders were really tasty while others were just blah. I'd recommend ordering the : Asian Salmon burgers -- flavorful and well cooked, plus filling, the pancakes -- fluffy with just the right amount of sweetness, the avocado toast which tasted more like guacamole on bread + an egg (not necessarily a bad thing). However, skip the Baja fish tacos -- not much flavor. Really wished there was a mango salsa inside the tacos instead of mango slices, especially since mangoes aren't in season now and the slices weren't even ripe. The Smoke Salmon Eggs Benedict was very blah and the home fries it came with were burnt and cold (I was confused too). Last but not least, my latte had barely any milk and was super dark. All in all, this place is worth a shot. Not great, but definitely has plenty of redeeming qualities. read more

I don't write reviews normally. But my experience at Bar Frites was so terrible I felt it my moral obligation to warn others. The food was good. But not good enough to make up for the fact that it is too loud and too crowded. Tables placed so close that i was sitting in between two diners at the table behind us. My wife was continually bumped by staff with not even an acknowledgment or apology. The wait staff couldn't navigate around the table so they constantly reached over us. At one point the mgmt thought it a good idea to blast dance music because I was almost able to hear the conversation at my own table. One and done for me. read more

Bar frites is "trendy" for a suburban restaurant. It's decorated like pastisse but has a different suburban crowd. The food is not as good as pastisse and in general is either too saucy or over cooked. The seafood tower (large) is $98 and is pretty good! read more

This is an upscale lively Gastro-pub ! Went for early dinner on a Wednesday night.We were a little early for our reservation but were seated immediately. Service by our waiter Adolfo was impeccable! Old fashioned professional service where the waiter anticipates every need without being asked! The menu is very inventive with many options but I noticed a lot of burgers on brioche buns on tables. We opted for the Calamari Appetizer. My wife had the filet mignon sliders which was a ample portion of steak on 3 slider buns for $19.75 and I had the Open Shrimp Ravioli which was served in a flavorful broth. Two glasses of wine and two cappuccinos and we were in for $150 with tip but we have paid more elsewhere and been disappointed. We left about 7:30 and the bar had a well dressed lively crowd and the place was packed! They are doing something right! read more

I'm sad to say that after coming to this establishment for over 15 years my family and I were treated with the utmost disrespect by Bar Fritters management today August 13 2024 at approximately 3:pm. After visiting my 94 year old mother in law at the nursing home my wife , son and daughter in law decided to go to Bar Fritters for a late lunch. One of the waiters asked if we wanted to sit indoors or outside, we said indoors. He guided us to a booth we sat then another waiter told us that we cannot sit indoors because my son wore a tank top, so he then said that we can sit outdoors. He escorted us to a table outdoors, mind you the table was literally a foot away from the edge of the parking lot and on the public sidewalk. The bus boy asked what we wanted to drink and served us water and gave us all a menu. We were about to order when a skinny man with rotted teeth, I believe that he was the manager said that we couldn't be served because my son was wearing a tank top. We explained to the manager that the waiter said that we were permitted to sit outside due to my son wearing a tank top and his response was " you cannot eat here and must leave ". We were taken aback by his disrespectful attitude towards us, he never introduced himself as a manager and to be quite frank he was actually scolding us in front of the other patrons sitting outside as well. Not only will Bar Fritters lose us as customers but we will spread the word about how they treat customers. And to top it off my wife was talking to him and he totally brushed her off and tried to close the door on her. He refused to give us his name on top of it. There was a woman sitting inside by the bar with a tank top extremely short shorts practically almost naked yet that was ok but my son who came in with a tank top was not allowed not only indoors but outdoors as well. Bar Fritters can go to hell and this skinny ass manager should go to the dentist and fix his rotted teeth. His breath also stunk like manure. If I can give Bar Fritters a zero for a rate I would. read more

We waited over 45 minutes for our food, also waited over 20 minutes to get seated even after making a reservation. After the food finally came, it ended up being subpar at best, the chicken was rock hard and didn't taste good at all. One of our entrees the chicken club came raw, we ended up giving it back. Very nice looking interior, friendly servers, and fair pricing for amount of food you receive. Had a business lunch with a client, sat in a quiet section of the restaurant and was able to conduct business. The steak sandwich was one of the best... Steak so tender and delicious mushroom and onions in the sandwich, making a great combination. A large order of frites come with the entree, very tasty and crisp. Client had a chicken club that he stated was delicious. All artisan bread is used, making the contribution to these sandwiches so much better. Menu is varied and would be looking to come back for dinner. Just a note , also a very nice bar to sit at, where you can enjoy a drink and also enjoy your meal if you wish. read more

I have so much to say about Bar Frites I don't even know where to start. I have been coming here since they first opened and try to come as often as I can. My favorite season to come here is obviously during the warm months because who doesn't love to sit outside. That being said I absolutely love sitting inside to. The decor is perfect, if you call yourself a French bistro you have to look the part and they do! It is always packed no matter what day of the week or what time. The servers know how to handle the crowds too I have never felt rushed or forgotten about. Now to the food, the best part! The onion soup: AMAZING let me just say I have lived in Paris, and this French onion soups tastes like you are right in the heart of Paris. It is defiantly filling and heavy but all the best French onion soups are. The fish tacos: so so good one of my personal favorites they are so fresh and the spicy top is the perfect little kick. I have had so many of there salads it is hard to pick a favorite, you really won't be disappointed with any. The Chinese chicken salad is enough for two! Their pizzas: their truffle one is to die for. Amazing, but all of them are really good. I've had a lot of their entrees as well so I won't go into detail but if you like fish try the Halibut. With the exception of one dish, I had some good food here. Our server was friendly and I like the vibe of the place. Here's the eats rundown: Apple pear salad ($13.50, mixed greens, d'anjou pear, granny smith apple, truffle pecorino, walnuts, pear vinaigrette) Beet salad ($14.50, red and gold beets, asparagus, haricot verts, baby arugula, candied walnuts, avocado, boucheron cheese, cabernet vinaigrette) Vegetable Nouille ($15.50, tagliatelle, tomatoes, mushroom, asparagus, garlic), Verdict: The salads... were salads. There was nothing wrong with them per se, but nothing that stood out either. The pasta though... yikes. I've never tasted anything so bland. It should be renamed, "wet noodles with soft vegetables". Yes, I know the name of this dish is simple (vegetable and noodles), but it should still have some resemblance flavor and the veggies should come off as fresh, not as mush. Other items I tasted that were much better than the above were the frog legs, mac n cheese and mussels in a thai coconut sauce. And UGH, I hate doing this, but the prices stink. Everything is in the same range... $13-19 for apps, salads, pastas, sandwiches, sliders... $11 onion soup? Come on, man. $14 Greek salad with no meat. Why is an order of fried calamari the same price as a chicken club with fries? ($15). $5.50 for half of a grapefruit.... You get the idea. It's not like you're getting anything great for the prices. There's no view, it's in a strip mall. It's lined with subway tile, not fine art. If someone asked what I had for lunch and I told them it was two salads, I think they would be shocked to find out the bill was over $30. But, again, if you don't mind dropping the loot, disregard this whole paragraph. -1 star for the dish that should never be served again and another notch down for the prices. $43 for two salads and a simple pasta BEFORE tax, tip, drinks... is crazy.
