Sinister DJ night is always a favorite of mine, also the birthday bash at the beginning of the month gets crazy packed

This scene is kinda dead. People were just standing around, not even dancing, the dance floor was tiny and the bathrooms were gross and always packed. Drinks were really expensive. The music was too trendy for my taste. Alot of people on here say you'll either love it or hate it, my friend loved it, but only because she was extremely intoxicated. First time to this place the other night, went with a friend, I enjoyed the music ^_^ and the atmosphere

I have been coming since 2004. It has going since 1998. Wow. That says a lot especially in Los Angeles where Today's Hit was often Yesterday's and will be despised Tomorrow. I am Single Middle Aged Male who usually but not always goes here alone and yet i don't get the bad vibes. Moreover, I usually get a very cool Vibe: not Hipster cool but Sanctuary cool and that has often been a Sanctuary for me. I can drink, dance and sometimes meet People who sometimes I have stayed Friends with for Years after. Indeed, this place is both cool and accepting which again speaks volumes for this place located in the Heart of Hipper than thou Hollywood. It is both indoors/outdoors. LIve Events(usually live Music)take place outside there is a Dance Floor inside and a Loft upstairs where BDSM is performed. There are 3 bars:the best stocked one is downstairs by the Dance Floor; there is one in the Loft upstairs and one outside. The Loft upstairs offers a view of the Dance Floor and from the Windows, a View outside. Go to their website or facebook page to get $5 off before 11 pm. They will take the flier even if it is just displayed on your phone:very cool. Anyway, it is usually only $10 to get in unless bigger known musical act is playing that night. All black clothing will get you in but try to dress nicely. I have seen out of dress folks there sometimes but I have also seen them turned away at the door sometimes. In any case, they can charge you twice as much to get in if they do let you in for not wearing "upscale black clothing" or Gothic Threads. There are a range of ages from 18 on up. It does bother me but other reviews I have read seemed surprised. I have not felt unwelcome here and I a older a bit chubby. I walk here so I can't comment on the parking but there is some parking across the street at Selma and Cherokee. The Venue itself was actually built in the 1920's. If the walls could only talk. The place oozes old Hollywood(in a good way). The Gothic Decor is there all the Time but it is only a Gothic Club on Saturday Nights. There a lovely Fountain outside which adds to the Gothic Hollywood Ambience. Sometimes there is a nice Lady inside selling yummy Cookies and Brownies. I forgot her name and the name of her company but if the goodies there, get them. Somehow I think Rick played by Humphrey Bogart from the Film Casablanca would have a Drink here if he were an actual Person. In fact, there used to a huge Portrait of Humphey Bogart a la Rick in Casablanca here Years ago. In that Spirit, come on in and have a Drink. If you're in with the crowd, this is the hot spot usually on Saturday nights. I love the way the bar is set up and the interior is great. Drinks are pricey and weak, best advice is stick with wine. I've been to many goth clubs and clubs in general. This was the worst. The security guys were assholes, it was hot as hell, drinks were expensive (for that cup size, I usually pay $6 at other clubs, not $10), the dj was horrible but I'll give credit for at least 3 songs that night, and the band was great. This place is great. The crowd is ecclectic - a lot of "suicide girl" types which is great... just a really laid back and chill atmosphere. The DJ was also great, a good mix of modern industrial, goth, classic 80's (Smiths, Bauhaus). The spanking chamber upstairs was "interesting" -- not necessarily my thing but after watching a couple broads get punished I get it. Walked in to hear a bad ass band on the outside patio. Walked into the dance area it was huge! They had dancers that had the rocker vibe. Upstairs there were some people tied up getting whipped next to the bar. Totally unreal experience since I come from a small town. I was in total awe of this place. read more

After reading about the reviews, I decided to bring my cousin to this place. We were one of the first to arrive and I must say that the decor and ambiance was awesome. I liked the dance floor and go-go dancer platforms! The the three bars were in different parts of the bar. I would have given this place a 5 star but the drinks were not great and overpriced! I ordered a L.A. water for $15..thats not cool. I loved the music and people that worked there were ok. The D.J. was great!! The S&M room was fun...We went on Valentine's weekend so we each got a swag bag and rose to give to a hottie..I will be back dressed up this time. read more

This is one of tide places people can really identify with and make their place to see like minded dark souls. Everyone that has invited me calls it "my bar" as in their place to socialize and be themselves. I would suggest dressing up to not feel out of place. It's a goth place and they usually have bands in one room and dark dance music in the other. Sultry and sinister gogos to torture your desires and ambiance to make you feel comfortable with a darker side. Personally it's not for me as I am more of a flower child but I can not deny this is a really cool place. read more

Every Saturday night the massive Bordner's Club space is turned into a darkly decedent haven for the gothic set. Anyone looking for a little adventure should try this place out. Cover is $10 for those appropriately dresses and $15 for those who aren't. If you don't know what to wear I would recommend stopping at any one of the gothic/punk stores on Hollywood or the Hot Topic in the Hollywood and Vine complex for some accessories. If you don't feel up to that just go with all black and lots of eye liner, guys and girls. Go for the atmosphere, a definite departure from a regular Saturday night in Hollywood, the drinks, I recommend a raspberry Kamikaze, and the music. There is a love band every week, a definite plus for those who love live music and are always looking for something new to listen to. For the even more adventurous there is an upstairs.... but I won't tell you what is there and ruin the surprise. read more

This is a goth club. It had a pretty cool decor with art, iron work, and dancers that go along. The dancers are very hot. The patrons are everything from the weird person you know to some super hot women in barely there clothing. It's a pretty big place so if it's an even slightly off night it seems very dead. They also have a cool light bondage area upstairs. By light I mean you've probably seen worse in an R movie. It is pretty cool live. read more

Honestly, I freaking loved this place, and that's a lot coming from someone who hates clubs/crowds/dancing. It's a great place to go if you want to unleash your inner goth. I went here with my best friend and I had an absolutely amazing time. I ACTUALLY DANCED! My feet were sore the next day! The music they played was great, the dance floor was crowded (but thanks to alcohol, my best friend beside me, and overall feeling safe there, I didn't have any panic attacks lol). There were so many beautiful people, including a few lady dancers which was super cool (and they were friendly, too! They thanked me for tipping them and blew me kisses, ahhh!!). The bartenders were quick to give me my drinks and the prices were great, too. The upstairs area was the most interesting...there was definitely some kinky stuff going on, something I've never seen before at a club, but entertaining to watch. No pictures or videos were allowed up there for privacy reasons, which I found respectful and fair. My friend told me to wear proper goth attire so be prepared beforehand to dress accordingly, since that's the dress code! Bar Sinister is the place to be "scene" on Saturday nights for the sexy "goth and fetish inspired" crowd. The venue itself is beautiful with an idyllic outdoor patio and stage, gothic themed main space, and plush and mysterious upstairs lounge. Live bands appear weakly on the patio, and Bar Sinister is now drawing major bands in the EBM/Industrial scene. Inside, upstairs there are B/D S/M performances for your entertainment pleasure (it's also possible to participate by making advance arrangements. Details at the Bar Sinister website). Bar Sinister has recently revamped its DJ lineup to include legendary scene DJ Amanda and DJ Satoki, and the sound system also seems to have been improved. I have been to Bar Sinister for a few weeks now. I enjoyed everyone and never really understood a dress code there...after all it is a place in which your supposed to be free to express yourself. I was let into the bar with no problem never told that I could were a dildo for a hat but you better not were a baseball cap.....Ooooops well I'm sitting most the night having drinks in the back corner with just me and my girlfriend and her brother minding our own business...when out of no where the bouncer comes up and says I told you you can't were that hat in "my" club.......wait! what you never said anything to me because I would have taken the hat right off and enjoyed the night but then he told us we had to leave. The problem I have with this is the fact that this was a very unprofessional action and was cheap. I never thought they wouldn't be accepting to others. However, In Hollywood anything goes unless your actually have any intelligence or common sense. I was becoming a regular patron even to come on Wednesday's for club Moscow and Sat. for Bar Sinister.........but you will never have any of my MONEY again that is unless I decide to buy the place and shut it down! It takes one impression to ruin a business for me....this was one of them and I don't know how much of a difference I make, but if this is trend it will lead to a lot of bad publicity! People can be really stuck up and have a "gother than thou" kind of attitude. Especially the guys that look like they are from Poison and the girls that next to nothing and just stand around. As far as the LA goth/industrial scene goes, this is as bad as it gets. Thats why I go here a lot. To people watch, run some bitter social commentary, observe patrons get screwed up on false absinthe, and then think they want to get spanked by some pro floggers. There is most def. a crowding issue here. It is one of the few dark events on Saturdays, and you are waiting in line for everything. Some of the people have a pretentious thing going on, but I think most are too drunk, or too into trying to fit in, that it is a struggle to maintain a friendly visage . Smokers patio with fountain-side bar is great,. because, yes, you can drink and smoke.And glare at people, while you watch the band. And , go ahead, start dancing if the music moves you.Most of the audience gets all disgusted. I love the go go dancers, they are coke skinny, and have great outfits. The actual dance floor is tiny, but dont worry, goths dont dance up on you anyhow. There are dj issues most weeks, and some dont know how to blend songs, or what to play. I will not say anything about the fetish activity upstairs. I will leave that to you, gentle reader, to see for yourself. Watch out for wing injuries. LOTS of girls and boys here wear wings. Also, watch out for your pot belly sporting high school science teacher, dressed in a leather BDSM outfit. I did not know that, and saw mine.Whats worse, he remembered me. But I wont argue the fact that they really do have some pretty cool bouncers and outside of the door girl most the employees are pretty friendly. The interior is pretty elegant too. I may come here again but it seemed like it was divided by very clicky groups and tourists. Like the idea, the music and the style but personally not my favorite. The music is always great and I love that the play movies on the screens. The Bartenders and staff are usually really nice and helpful. I also love that they always seem to have some awesome or interesting band playing. It's nice that they do the flyer thing that get people in for $5. My only complaint would be the bathrooms, the line gets so long and there are only two stalls, this makes for some catty goth girl moments haha. read more

One of the last darker clubs in LA. Love the music, drinks (they have some special ones like absinthe and aqua(?)). The dancers are beautiful, the decor is nice. I have seen quite a few great performers here live and the venue is small enough to get a good up close viewing. The fountain with candles is great and you can smoke in one of the covered outside bar areas. The bathroom can be a bit gross and should probably be cleaned some time during the night prior to closing... Admission isn't too bad if your dressed right and bring a flyer from facebook or their website. The halloween party is awesome great and people come in awesome costumes. Very beautiful people all dressed up in black or etc is the norm. I also enjoy the live shows they put on upstairs and sometimes they have different live art or performances downstairs. The art of bleeding has made it to this location at lest once that I know of and I love their live events. If you like the dark goth or industrial scenes you may want to head down here one saturday night and check it out. Drink specials for the first hour or so I believe, so getting there early can pay off. read more

Bar Sinister.... I've met some of the most amazing people at this place over the last few years. If you want to let go of yourself to industrial rock with beautiful women in leather dancing all around you then this is your spot. There are plenty of BDSM beginners and experts milling about the top section depending on the night.
