The takeout window has a special menu off to the right side of Caribbean curries and other dishes. We came back that night and were rewarded with some of the best food we had on the island. The chicken was so tender it fill off the bone, sauces were rich and flavorful without being too spicy. We tried Festival, which is a bread that is a little sweet, and found it good for dipping in the sauces. Everything was excellent. Give it a try, it is like a hidden secret on Nantucket.

This is my first yelp review. I'm a Nantucket guy and I'm not really into this whole review thing as I don't get on the phone that much, but I just had to write one about Sushi By Yoshi after tonight. I haven't been here in a few years and I have to say Sushi Sunday was a blast. Im really glad they made this deal up,m. Ive been hearing about it and finally decided to come in tonight. I had amazing friendly service and all of my rolls were really fresh. The yellow tale and tuna were both slamming. My friends and I probably ate like...30 rolls. Haha the all you can eat thing is real. They make the crispy rice cake differently now and it's even better than before, cut into a bunch of pieces and easy to share. Very crisp and fresh rice along with the shredded tuna on top. Killer!!! All of our food came out very fast. Sushi is so expensive and this deal is unheard of, especially for something this good. I ended up getting my parents a gift certificate for the next time they come down. I'll def be trying the four roll deal soon too for take out. place is a hidden little gem! Love it. Really disappointing experience at Bar Yoshi. The pricing would be easier to swallow if either the food or service justified it, but neither did. The portions were tiny, the food was pretty forgettable, and the service was easily the worst part. Before dinner, we called the restaurant and their own AI phone system told us BYOB was allowed. When we got there, our waiter was curt and dismissive about it, even after we explained that we had only brought sake because the restaurant itself told us we could. We literally had to call the restaurant from the table and play back what their own system was telling customers. I completely understand that Massachusetts law is Massachusetts law and they couldn't allow it. What I don't understand is acting like we were the problem for relying on information provided by the restaurant, then offering no real apology, acknowledgment, or gesture whatsoever. That pretty much summed up the night: ridiculous pricing, mediocre food, and a level of hospitality that felt bizarrely indifferent. Bar Yoshi used to feel special. Whatever has changed here, it doesn't anymore. read more

only place on Nantucket for really fresh and clean crisp sushi....sushi Sunday is fun and even though it's busy you still get great/fast enough service. I also love just going here on a more chill night, like a Thursday and getting a party platter with my friends. It's always cozy warm and friendly. I like the simple and clean atmosphere....they are not byob any longer but I don't mind because they have a great selection of wine- especially for a small restaurant. The flavor was nice, but it looked like it was cooked a little too long, so it came out darker than it should have. Still enjoyable, though. Next, the chicken pad Thai. The first thing I noticed was the noodles. Instead of the long noodles you'd normally expect, they were very short and thin. Every time I tried to twirl them with my fork, they just fell right through. The crushed peanuts also tasted like they had been sitting in a separate container because they were burnt and didn't add anything positive to the dish. Overall, the pad Thai was also less savory than what I'd expect. Finally, the pepper steak with rice. This was probably the biggest disappointment. The steak was chewy, a little greasy, and didn't really have the flavor I expect from pepper steak. What also stood out was the portion. For around $20, I would have preferred the steak served à la carte with a side of rice. Instead, the rice was added/mixed into the container, which meant less steak overall. I would have rather had the container filled with the pepper steak and the rice served separately. Overall, I spent $74 before the tip, and that included two drinks. By the time I checked out, the total came to $78 with a $4 tip. What rubbed me the wrong way was being prompted to tip before I even knew if the food was good. After eating everything, I can honestly say I wasn't satisfied. Between the portions, the quality, and the price, I felt like I paid more and got less. Unfortunately, this one just didn't meet my expectations.

I wish I could write a glowing review, but in all honesty, I cannot do it. The entire experience was a let-down. The serving staff is clearly hired for the season; they struggle to describe the menu; there is no sommelier available and our server looked like a deer caught in headlights when asked a simple question about the sweetness of a Riesling on offer; the food was trying so hard, but was poorly executed and under seasoned. I ordered risotto with chanterelles, asparagus and fresh greens: what arrived was bowl of bland, soupy rice that somehow managed to be both mushy & undercooked. Two of our party ordered the halibut which was so doused in unnecessary accoutrements that this delicate, wonderful fish was lost (and also slightly overcooked), the last member of our group ordered "a Greek preparation" of lamb that arrived like a gummy block of scrapple (today, we noticed it had been pulled from the menu, thank goodness!). It was practically inedible. The two starters were passable, but nothing to write home about and, needless to say, we opted to skip dessert. The bill for this meal was hefty and didn't deliver in any way. The only positive moment was when we asked for the excessively bright lighting to be dimmed down (we were blinded) and we were kindly accommodated. Long story short: unless American Seasons does some serious reflection on how their marketing & describing the experience here, skip it. You're better off with fried clams at a shack.
