I am confused about the Yelp reviews for this place. My enchilada plate arrived lukewarm and utterly devoid of enchilada sauce. Enchiladas are supposed to be covered with red sauce and cheese, and heated under the broiler. This food tasted like it was microwaved. Second time I've gotten their Super Burrito and me and my wife think it's the best burrito we've tasted, and we already had another burrito place but I drive from Davis for this place now. I had this place cater my husband's 70th birthday party and everybody loved the food. I got a small tray of rice, a small tray of beans and a huge tray of chicken enchiladas. I got nothing but compliments on that food. I even ordered six chile Rellenos .. it was not too expensive, but very well Enjoyed by my family and friends. We accidentally stumbled upon this place when trying to find a taco truck- the taco truck nearby was closed so we came here. So happy we ended up here! It is a hole in the wall with authentic Mexican food. No frills restaurant. Friendly staff. Very simple yet delicious. We had the birria tacos and a carne asada burrito. On a cloudy, Sunday mid-morning, I was craving menudo. We had just dropped off our trailer in Woodland and did not want to have to go all the way into Sacramento to our favorite mexican restaurant that has amazing menudo so what else is a person to do? Why Yelp of course. So I typed in "Menudo" near me and up popped a couple of places. So, I carefully went through each business' reviews and came across Barajas Deli's who had plenty of Menudo reviews, so off we went. It is a very unassuming place because I have been in this little shopping area plenty of times visiting DMV Woodland but never paid any attention to so imagine my surprise when we arrived at Barajas Deli across from DMV! Walking in we were greeted be a nice young man, Caesar, and I am guessing his abuelita, and asked if we could order Menudo. The kitchen ladies said they had no more and at my sad, "awwwwwwwww," Caesar said he would give me his batch. Whoa!!!! "Really, I screeched???" He said, "yes" I usually save a pot for the week, but would grant my wish. Wow, thank you, thank you, thank you my heart felt with gratitude. You really don't find that kind of customer service very often, or menudo, or bean and cheese burrito, or carnitas tacos and this place will be one of my spots in Woodland foreva! Feels just like I'm at home when I come here! The three stars are not so much for the food but for the prices. I usually get a burrito de al pastor and it would come out to 8-9 dollars. However, the last couple of times, the prices were all different. It would be 10 dollars one day, 11 dollars another day and then back to 9. One of the best Mexican restaurants in the area! Why is it the best? Fresh cooked food, Deli style! Their chile verde is delish! Side note: most of the food here is EXTREMELY spicy. This is coming from a guy (me) who puts tapatio on Hot Cheetos. When I say it's hot, it's freaking hot! Is that a bad thing? Not for me! This is what makes this place stand out. I love heat! If I could recommend one dish, it would be hands down their pozole! There's American style pozole and Mexican style pozole. What's the difference? Mexican style is served as a clear broth with honeydew tripe. American style is red with tripe as well as hominy. Which ever your taste buds desire, this deli has both. I am not a menudo fan and if you aren't either then order a bowl of heaven here. It is one of the best things I've ever had at a Mexican restaurant. the fatty texture of the tripe mixed with the amazing broth is perfect even if you're not hung over. Ok so I read the reviews and I am a big fan of Menudo so I decided to try this place since I was in the area. The Menudo must be great because when i got there around noon it was already sold out. I had to settle for something different. I went with the steak and potato in a red sauce with rice and beans and a large jamaica. Now let's get to what I'm here. When I get my food I'm told its 24 dollars total!?!?! 18 for the food and 6 for the drink. Looking at the menu, NOTHING was 18 dollars even the birria which is always pricey was only 16.99 so how in the hell did I inadvertently order the most expensive item on the menu? I know the price of food has gone up but 18 bucks? For literally 2 ladles full of red sauce with maybe 5 to 6 little pieces of carne asada doesn't seem right. Why would this simple dish be more expensive than birria and anything else on the menu? It doesn't make sense. I hate to think somebody would pull a fast one on me but I eat Mexican food quite frequently and this particular dish is never that expensive especially in comparison to the prices of other dishes I'm familiar with. This is a total hole in the wall another Yelper told me about at a Yelp event. I don't find myself in Woodland too often but I knew the next time we were in that part of town we would have to swing by. My boyfriend and I got two super burritos with carnitas to go. These burritos were HUGE. I'm talking like 2 pounds each, which is great because we had plenty of leftovers. The burritos were quite tasty but the star of the show was the meat. It was cooked perfectly and you can tell they buy good quality meat. They also sell meat here by the pound and various Mexican side dishes. I have been on a mission to find the best places to get Menudo in Woodland. This is definitely one of them and my current favorite. I have been to at least 6 or 7 places so far, trying Menudo with and without hominy, with and without pata, etc. This place hits the spot no matter how ordered. The flavor is spot on, the meat is clean, tender, and in perfect small chunks. The service, especially for this non-Spanish speaker, was fantastic! Tacos were surprisingly amazing! My husband was craving Birria de chivo, so we were looking for a nearby taco truck, but found their sign and were happy they had it. He said the birria tacos were really good and very flavorful. My carne asada tacos were sooo good too. We spent a little more money than maybe at a taco truck, but the quality and flavor was worth it. We'll definitely be back. The salsa is to die for. It it tasty, HAF!!! ( hot as F***) but... so flavorful. I picked up my big plastic container to take home of the typical yummy salsa to sacramento to enjoy at home. While where this time the owner had us try a dark salsa with smoked or roasted chilis chipotle style idk but damn now its two salsas to go!! OMG its so yummy. This unassuming taqueria is a hidden gem tucked away in a Woodland strip mall on a main street. Walking in, I was greeted by a friendly gentleman who served as a cashier and chef. I ordered three chicken tacos, at just over $6.00. At the $2.00 price for a restaurant taco, I was not expecting them to be filling, but they were. Just a few minutes after order, three stuffed tacos with green salsa were brought to my table. The salsa was delicious, and the chicken marinade dripped each time I bit into the taco. Three tacos was a little too much food for me, but these were easily one of the best tacos I've had in the area. If I'm ever back in Woodland, I will visit again. read more

Authentic, all-home-made Mexican food doesn't get any better than this. I have been there several times, usually for a few tacos of various meats, (my favorites are the carne asada and the carnitas) but sometimes for the STELLAR chiles rellenos, which are wonderfully crispy on the outside, stuffed with lots of cheese on the insde, and served with a delicious light sauce. The creamy salad is a super compliment to the meal. I haven't tried the rest of the deli dishes, all served fresh daily, different selections from day-to-day, but the chile verde looks and smells awesome, so that will be ordered next time. I'm from San Deigo, so I'm really picky about Mexican food, but I could probably actually eat here every single day and be happy. Please do yourself a favor and go eat tacos here immediately! Carne asada? Bomb. Carnitas? To die for. Pollo asada? Yum. Their food is consistently fantastic every time, and priced so crazy well! The owners are super nice too, and always remember me and my husband. The restaurant itself is very clean and bright, but I think that people mostly just do take out because there is rarely anyone actually eating there. I know we normally take it home with us. This is a family business and it's so cool that when you order your food, you can see grandma start putting your food on the grill, or see mom and dad taking turns on the register. You have to keep an eye on that it has happened to me on several occasions to the point that i had to point it out to her . Went here to pass time while at the DMV. I got the chicken torta and got my son 2 carne asada tacos. He loved his tacos (he's 4, meat and cheese what's not to love). On the other hand my torta didnt wow me but it wasnt bad. It fell a bit on the bland side, but it was huge and I'm still full 5 hours later. I just went to Barajas Deli and purchased chicharrone con chili. No beans or rice or tortillas. Just that. Looks like maybe 16 oz container. The taste is ok and its not a common thing to buy. But $18.00 for a small container not even a full meal. I should have gone to the grocery store bought a bag of chicharrone and a small container of chili and i would have food for the week for that price. Their food is ok but the prices take it over the top. Other restaurants here in town have better food and cost less. Enjoy! read more
