All I can say is don't miss this place! Take a moment to take in the ambiance of the space, it's like an art installation. The views with the wide open doors is gorgeous. And most important, the service is impeccable. RICH was the best in presentation, service & over all experience. We wanted for nothing u see his watch. His sidekick, I feel horrible that I can't recall his name, was amazing as well.
We came during a busy time and generally they like for you to have reservations but fortunately they had room in the VIP section so we were sat in seconds. The room is cute and has good vibes but it definitely is VIP. Closed off to any people watching. We got the crab bisque, flatbread stuffed pepper and it was amazing!! I ate all of my plate. The waitress was very kind and attentive. I had found something in my food and I wasn't sure what it was so I asked the waitress and she wants sure. Honestly, I wasn't pressed about it and still ate the whole thing. She said the manager was going to comp me but I told her NO! I ate the whole thing I Will absolutely pay for it. She still took it off so I left a %50 tip. Excellent food, service and prices. Must recommend!
I've been here three times and I'm always impressed with the atmosphere and experience. We sat in the bar for this visit and had a three course dinner. Started with a few appetizers, and of course had to get the table-side guacamole. It's made custom to heat preference so we got medium this time. Ryan was our server and attentive the entire time. I ordered the salmon for dinner and it was incredible! A few friends of the steak, and it looked great too. We got a couple desserts to share, the ice cream donut and crème brûlée. Overall amazing meal and service.
It's been a few years since I have been to Barbacoa. Tonight we came in for my husband's company late Christmas Christmas party. Last year we celebrated at their sister restaurant Coa Del Mar and enjoyed every bit of it. My husband and his co workers can't get enough of the filet hot rock. It was an unanimous vote to come to Barbacoa to celebrate our post holiday dinner. Our first interactions coming in was not pleasing. I will have to say, the hostesses were quite rude and unorganized. Our table had already checked in and sat. We were the last ones to show up. The hostess had a hard time locating our reservation even though our party was already somewhere in the dining area. We repeated the reservation name to her several times. Clearly she wasn't paying attention since we had to say it over and over again. After several attempts, she finally located our party. "Someone will guide you to your table". After standing there for a bit we realized no one was going to "guide us" anytime soon. It's such a shame that we started our experience with this kind of service. We ended up just locating our party on our own. She was completely useless in the help department. Our server had gotten drinks started for our table since we got there late. She got us squared away after we got ourselves situated. We breezed over the menu while she grabbed our sodas. Guac was also started for the table. The table side guacamole never disappoints. We toasted, enjoyed our appetizer and hung out till our server was ready to take our orders. I ordered the ribeye tonight. My husband got the filet hot rock with a couple of his co workers. I asked for my ribeye to be really well done. With my new kidney, I can't really have undercooked steak. Our server reassured me that my steak will be cooked well done and that it was going to be great. For my side I got some asparagus. I have had the asparagus every time I have eaten here and it's always fantastic. It was busy tonight and there were quite a few of us in our group so our food did take a minute to get prepared. But after everything was dropped off, I knew it was worth the wait. Our food looked phenomenal! The gentleman who poured my husband's cognac sauce did a great job, great presentation. I got my beautiful ribeye on a black board placed in front of me. My friend next to me ordered the salmon. On her salmon was a vibrant orchid. It added such an elegant touch to her plate. Everyone's food looked fantastic. This is where I compliment the chef. My ribeye was juicy, flavorful and it had outstanding char marks on it. For my ribeye to be cooked well done, it was so tender. The sauce that was paired with it was tangy and spicy. It was the perfect sauce for my ribeye. The asparagus once again was money. I ate a little more than half of my steak and I look forward to finishing it tomorrow. Dessert was a must after we finished dinner. I have had the fried ice cream pops in the past. They are too good! But the bananas foster was calling my name tonight. Our friends next to us ordered the same dessert. The rest of the party got the fried ice cream pops. The presentation for the bananas foster was magnificent. We dug right in after the flame went out. The bread pudding was divine. The gelato that came on the side was sweet and creamy. Paired together the bread pudding and gelato was the ultimatecombination. As full as I was, I had to finish this lovely dessert. Our start wasn't the best. The hostesses are the first people to set the tone of your dining experience. I'm happy that our server, the vibe and of course the food made up for such horrible first interactions. Our server was on point and so was everyone else who tended to our table. With Barbacoa having such a rich and romantic vibe, it resonates in their food. Everything about tonight was lovely. Looking forward to coming back when it's warmer so we can sit out on the patio by the water. I can't think of a better way to enjoy to have dinner.
Great decor and location, especially with Halloween additions. Service is always top notch at this restaurant and their others. Love their "BOGO" (buy one, get one) drink specials during happy hour. Everyone loved their meals. The rib entree is HUGE (sorry, no pics). Definitely need a to-go box. My carne asada could have used some more seasoning. Chose the hot rock and sauce and even though the sauce is delicious, it doesn't say "carne asada". Could have had some different and additional sides to make your own tacos but still a good dish. Would not order this entree again with all of the other good options. Would some here again.
SO DELICIOUS everything we had was absolutely delicious we started out with guac - they asked how spicy we wanted it which i thought was a nice touch paella was seasoned well, full of flavor and had tons of different proteins seafood mixto was a lemon forward pasta and was perfect to go with the other dishes the new york strip was amazing, love the idea of the hot rock and get the cognac sauce on the side we got the zucchini chips on the side of the steak and they were perfectly crisp! sliced super thin!! Barbacoa Grill is definitely one of the most unique dining spots in Boise. The atmosphere is super cool artsy, modern, and a little over-the-top in a fun way. It's a great place for a date night or special occasion. The food was overall really good. The wagyu steak is full of flavor, I wish there was no sauce and blue cheese on the top and the table-side guacamole is fresh and well done. Oyster was fresh. The chicken wings were good , polenta was delicious. The lemon tart was really really good. Service was excellent ,attentive without being overbearing, and the staff made sure we had everything we needed throughout the night. It's definitely on the pricier side, but totally worth it for the experience. If you're looking for a place that combines great food, atmosphere, and a memorable night out, Barbacoa is the spot.
Traveling from LA to Boise for business. After settling into our hotel we headed out to dinner at Barbacoa. Having been to many great restaurants up and down the California coast I wasn't expecting much more than a nice dinner out and to my surprise it turned out to be one of best dining experiences under my belt. The food was so very savory and flavorful. Gourmet for sure in my book. The presentation was lots of fun, engaging very welcoming. Service was on point and very tentative especially considering how busy they were. Friday night what can I say. It was a great time. The restaurant was very stylish with a red themed vibe which made it alluring and relaxing. Trendy but setting the pace in their own way. Another one of many good reasons to return to Boise.
This place is amazing! The food, atmosphere, the service and you get an amazing view! I got salmon and it came with veggies and rice! Everything was cooked perfect and so fresh! My husband got duck 2 ways and he said it was so juicy! We got a lemon dessert that was so sweet and tasty! The service is amazing and they had happy hour drinks! What a great experience! We went to Barbacoa in downtown Boise for a birthday celebration and it was an incredible experience! The food was amazing from start to finish. We started with the table side guacamole, which came with both chips and vegetables for dipping. For our entrées, we had the lamb chops, two hot rock steaks, and the paella, and every dish was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. For dessert, they brought out a cotton candy cake with a flourless chocolate cake hidden inside, complete with a birthday candle. We also tried the cheesecake bites and the bananas foster, and they were all delicious. The service was excellent throughout the night. Prices are on the higher side, but this is definitely a high end spot perfect for special occasions, and worth every penny. We sat inside, but with the doors open we enjoyed beautiful views of the mountains and pond, which made the evening even better. I highly recommend Barbacoa, especially if you're celebrating something special!
My husband took me to Barbacoa for my birthday. We had a great time, so I didn't want to upset the mood by complaining, but my Seafood Mixto was pretty bad. I ordered it because, well, I can cook a steak at home. But to prep the variety of seafood on this plate, hand make the pasta for the "spinach linguine in a spicy cream feta cheese sauce", then cook it all to perfection. Well, that to me was worth the $72 price tag. However, the seafood was room temp, the crab meat came in the form of itty bitty shavings, and the handmade linguine was overcooked, gummy, solid, and there was no trace of the "spicy cream feta cheese sauce" as promised. The noodles reminded me of refrigerated store bought Japanese udon that comes freshly made in a oxygen deprived plastic pouch. To revive it you place it in boiling water along with the spice packet. Before placing it in the water it looks like a brick of compacted noodles. My Seafood Mixto noodles looked like that brick. They were never placed in the proverbial boiling water and revived. They were just plunked on a plate and covered with the seafood and a pretty orchid. In some sense I would've preferred cooking and eating a $3.50 store bought package of Japanese udon, than being robbed $72 by being promised an experience I never received. Also, three servers came by and asked me how I liked my entree and I said "the noodles are overcooked, hard and gummy" to all of them, but all I got was a "I'm sorry to hear that" and they went on their way w/o attempting to make it right.

Great food! Fancy restaurant. Favorite was the huckleberry martini in their famous Ice glass. Also if you get any of their steaks, opt for on the hot stone, really cool presentation and turns out delicious. Um, where to begin?? The decor is WILD and all over the place and kept my eyeballs entertained the whole meal. Music was a little too loud for conversations, but THE FOOD. There is one potentially vegetarian dish, if you modify it a bit (but the implication when you eat at a place called Barbacoa is that it's about MEAT). I ordered the yellow tail app and beet salad app. OMGGG. I could not shovel it in my face fast enough. A friend ordered a flatbread, another the swordfish, and another a pasta dish (the vegetarian in the group). We were all extremely impressed. At about $20-30 a plate you get enough food for two to three meals. Our server, well all of the servers were upbeat, knowledgeable, and well put-together. None of us ordered a cocktail so I can't speak to those but the options were bountiful and there is a massive full bar. Our shuttle driver recommended this spot and THANK YOU, Linda! Guacamole. I'd give this place 5 stars based on that alone! Fresh avocados, tomatoes, garlic, cilantro, sea salt, limes, thyme, and together you have pure heaven. But if you need more, then the happy hour would also merit its own 5 stars! But one get one drinks. This is your chance to try that drink you've had your eye on, top shelf liquor, or decadent wine. If those still aren't enough, then by god-- the fire rock steak. I'd go to prison just to have this as a guaranteed last meal. Okay- that might be a bit extreme, but you get what I mean. There are other most amazing dishes to choose from as well, but this is a strong go to. At the end of it all-- coffee and donuts. Or fried ice cream lollipops. Or anything on the dessert menu really. My husband and I went for happy hour 4pm-6pm. I was a Thursday and tons of people at 4pm so show up a little early. The drinks were BOGO and really good! Grilled octopus was amazing. Guacamole was good but too expensive. Love the decor! read more

We had an amazing dinner at Barbacoa last night. Let's begin with the atmosphere. While I've seen kids here and even taken my children in, I highly sugguest to leave them home. There is so much to take in from the enviroment that gets passed by when you are trying to tame your children the whole time. We went for our anniversary without the kids and I was impressed at how heightened my senses were to all the decor and the tranquil enviroment itself. There are amazing artifacts all throughout the entire resturant. Service was amazing. Ruth was hands down the best server I've ever had. She was friendly and had the menu down to a T. She was so relaxed, I've never seen a server who didn't have even an ounce of that rushing behavior. She came up like she was a long lost family member. I was very impressed at watching how she handled all her tables. She answered questions and gave so many wonderful suggestions. Our food was great. We started with some of the guacamole made fresh at the table. If you like spicy they are not playing around you will get the heat. Just be smart enough to not also order the Heat margarita too as my mouth was on fire lol. I switched to the Huckleberry Martini which is my husbands favorite. If you plan on ordering a soup or salad go for the crab bisque I was so delighted with the flavors. I don't think I've foodgasmed like that ever in my life. It took everything in me not to lick the bowl. I ordered the Paella and while it was an okay dish I felt like I should have ordered a steak. My husbands Ribeye was packed with flavor and the entire palette just sent more bombs exploding. Ruth suggested the banana foster with a side of ice cream. It was an amazing end to a great meal! ***So if you skipped all that and need a summary here it is.*** Leave the kids. Ruth is bae. Steak dish over Paella. Shrimp cocktail: huge but they were a little stingy on the cocktail sauce. Busser: ask for Damion. He's cute, polite and super responsive. He took great care of us and made lots of recommendations. Service: truly top notch. The Assistant Manager even swing by to say hello. Def get your steak on a rock!!!! Brilliant idea because if any of your steak is rarer than you like you can just cook it a lil longer on there rock! Duck 2 ways was pleasant but given the menu...go beef or seafood and avoid the birs. They do beef and seafood really well. The corn on the cob was fantastic. Fun presentation and really tasty. The mashed potatoes were a lot dry- had to send them back. Desserts are creative and ask about the off menu items We had remarkable fried cheesecake bites and they change the sauces each season. Barbacoa is one of my favorite restaurants ever. This is the trendiest restaurant in ID for sure! Not only is the vibe incredible the food and service are also too notch. The table side guac is incredible. The drinks are fun. The presentation of their dishes are also all fabulous! The woman's restroom is also adorable and all pink! Come here for dinner! There is also a gorgeous view of the lake if you sit outside or in the back of the restaurant. There really is no bad seat in the house. The art is also really unique and fun. read more

Excellent evening in Boise! Some of the nicest staff I have ever seen. The BBQ duck quesadilla was excellent. Large for the price! I ordered the lamb chops with garlic mash potatoes and artichoke fritters. All of which were delicious. The waitress recommended getting it on the hot rock which I'm so glad I did. Was a really fun experience. My boyfriend got the hot rock filet with the ham mac & cheese as his side dish. He loved the filet, but wasn't crazy about his pick on the side dish. We were so blown away when the waitress showed up with the cotton candy. Restaurant is definitely on the pricier side but we have leftovers for days & the experience itself was worth the price tag. Can't wait to celebrate other special occasions here. read more

Wow! Such a unique place. Read the other reviews and had to try it. I may come back to Boise just to eat here again. We tried the duck quesadilla, the poblano stuffed chili and some cocktails. I was full after the appetizers but got to try the flaming filet mignon ordered by my coworker. Omg. The meat flavor was fantastic! The Barbacoa stuffed poblano was absolutely fantastic and I loved the flavor combo in that appetizer. The duck quesadilla was also delicious. We went for a friends birthday dinner. We had 14 people and our server was outstanding. Thankfully he had an assistant and everything came in a timely manner. I'm a wine drinker and he even brought two wines for me so I could sample to go with my clams. The New Zealand Sauvignon blanc was delicious. We got there during happy hour with the BOGO for drinks and that definitely saved us a bit which everyone appreciated. All the food was good and we all loved the decor and experience. My husband and I spent a wonderful anniversary dinner at Barbacoa. I made the reservation two weeks in advance, asking for a patio table, and although they didn't guarantee it, they had them ready for us when we got there. I must is the tableside guacamole. I had the octopus, and my husband had a culotte steak and shrimp on the hot rock, our meal was amazing. Our service was impeccable. This was my first time here after hearing so many raves. The atmosphere is awesome. We sat in a booth under the Medusa statue which is really cool with lighting coming from her "hair". We had the table side guacamole which was delicious. My dinner was the Carne Asada which was also delicious. The meat was very tender. We tried the Creme Brûlée for dessert. The presentation was gorgeous. It was good but the banana fritters that came with it were even better. I gave 4 stars because the price is high. I knew when going there but still. I also rated down for service. Waitstaff drove us crazy. Too much. Just let us enjoy our meal and conversation. The hostesses were sweet and offered to take our picture when they saw us struggling with a selfie. It's a great place overall. read more

It's honestly some of the best food I've had! Their deserts are amazing and surprisingly fun! Everything at Barbacoa is a fun experience. I lived in Boise for most of my life until I moved away and I finally got my way back to Boise for a visit and couldn't pass up an opportunity to go! The waiter was super nice and the hot rock filet is a MUST GET it's so fun and tastes so good! The interior of the building is so well designed and decorated it's amazing, Even going to the bathroom is an experience. Just a 10/10 fun place to be. Would definitely recommend! read more

Hip restaurant that made me forget I was in Boise. Staff are great and this restaurant kindly accommodated a group of eight who had reservations at another restaurant but experienced a kitchen fire. While the menu is compelling, I was disappointed in my food. The trout was fresh and beautifully prepared but it had too much stuff on it, which wasn't necessary. Let the fish shine through. I didn't mind a light lemon caper sauce but there was clearly some kind of sweet glaze that not only competed with the sauce but also overpowered the fish. Also, my spinach was so extremely salty, I couldn't eat it after two bites. The entrees and steaks all present nicely but all have way too much flavorings on them to appreciate the proteins. Given the price points range from $40 to over $70, I was expecting better quality preparations. Also, their menus looked and felt like you were in a TGIFridays. It's like they don't want to be stuffy and upscale but have no problem charging those kinds of prices. This has the potential to be a great restaurant with some editing and consistency. read more
