Had lunch here and it was very busy. Our server was very friendly and attentive despite having many tables to wait on. Had the she crab soup which was yummy and had a little bit of spice to it. I had shrimp and grits and my husband had the crab cake both of which were excellent. The portions here are very big, we could have easily split an entree. When at BJ's, crab cakes are what's for dinner! The jumbo (7 oz) crab cake I ordered was light and satisfying, paired with 2 veggies (green beans and squash casserole for me), it was a perfect portion size. I also had to try the she crab soup with amazing pumpkin bread. Delicious! There is no skimping on the crab at this place!!! At 7:30pm, there was a 20 min wait... Only bummer of the night - The host was not friendly (and unavailable at most times) and BJ's has no inside waiting areas so we stood in the doorway so we wouldn't be forgotten. Wish I had room in my tummy to try their famous chocolate stuff dessert... Next time for sure! read more

Even at supper time on a Saturday we only had a ten minute wait, it took longer to find parking! Food took a little while to get there but everything was tasty. She crab soup was great, coastal platter was delicious, staff was friendly. Highly recommended for any size group. My wife and I made it a point to visit this restaurant while we were here. We fell in love with this place when it was in Savannah. This is definitely the place for southern comfort food. One of the best places on the island. The bread they bring out is nothing short of amazing, especially the japo cornbread. I had the chicken fried chicken and it was delicious. Wife had country fries steak which is normally good, but she had a bad cut with lots of gristle. This was the worst experience I have ever had. The food was mediocre and the service barely sufficient. The management allowed a very loud obnoxious crowd in and the experience ruined every diner in the restaurant's experience. The management allowed the rude obnoxious diners to physically block tables and booths and not let the patrons out. I am quite sure this is against fire codes. It is extremely rude and the management should have stopped this. The rude obnoxious crowd, yelled and screamed and clapped loudly. I could not even eat. The food was good but when we simple asked if they could turn down the heat,cause it was like 90 degrees in there, the waitress told us we didn't need to be rude. As well the bathroom was not working and there was no clear indication of the fact outside or in, so we told our waitress and she raised her hand and just walked away. This was not my favorite restaurant on the island. I had the shrimp and grits and have had much better elsewhere. It was served in a bowl and almost looked like soup. My friend described the restaurant as a "southern Cracker Barrel " and that is a good description. The servers were friendly and service was good. My friend thinks they have the best crab cakes. We have a home on Saint Simons and this is one of our favorite restaurants. The service is great, the prices are moderate, and the food is very consistent. Crab Cakes are the specialty, but the tuna, shrimp, and fish are also very good. If you want comfort food, there is plenty to chose from and they all come with great bread. The vegetables are great. There is a full service bar and Mike, the bartender, is a special guy. Eating at the bar or getting takeout are good options. There are no longer long waits since the expansion, but parking can be a problem in peak seasons. A walk in the village or to the pier after dinner is a great tradition. read more

The crab meat was not fresh or sweet, but not bad at reasonably priced. My love had the fried catfish which was good.
