Based on the two dishes we had, clam chowder and linguine with mussels, this is as good as it gets! The clam chowder was well prepared. I don't usually like my clam chowder this thick, but most people do. Well flavored with plenty of herbs and a strong note of celery, the clam chowder had tons and tons of tender clams in a very, very generous portion. There was easily enough for the two of us. We also shared the linguine dish. The mussels were plentiful and very tender, very fresh. We chose the traditional Italian preparation, a cream sauce. The was plenty of sauce to soak up with the very fresh sourdough bread. Service was friendly, efficient, and very fast We will be back again.

Excellent fresh seafood. This is a small restaurant next to the water. We ordered clam chowder, fish and chips and salmon veracruz. Everything is fresh, well seasoned and delicious. The clam chowder is the best I've had even compared to Seatle and Bodega Bay. Customer service is good. Portion is generous. Definitely will come back

Delicious crab cocktail was the star of the show! So crispy and fresh simple preparation with cocktail and lemon. Really doesn't need anything. Delicious:) Counter take away service or dine in. Ambiance is 1970s seafood restaurant. Good friendly service. Beer and wine.

Our second time at Barbara's Fishtrap since 2021. Definitely a lot busier. I appreciated the take out window. Although the line was long, the staff moved it quickly. People in line were courtesy and kind to one another. We tried Barbara's mini trap along with an order of the famous fish and chips. We also got a big 'ol' bowl of chowder to take home. The mini trap was a great deal. Only wish it had 2 cod fish sticks instead of one. I really enjoyed the fried zucchini. Our favorite was the famous fish and chips.

As long as Barbara's has been in Montara, we've never dined here until a couple of years ago. Since then, we have probably eaten here a handful of times. My hubby loves their clam chowder which is thick and creamy but dairy-free. Their fish and chips and other fried seafood dishes are also delicious. This place is alway busy, regardless if we visit on a weekday or weekend. Service is average, sometimes a bit slow. The restaurant is spacious. Parking nearby is fairly easy to find with many street parking spaces.

Wow wow wow! I've had fish & chips in various places, including London, yet these were easily the best I've ever had. The fish was extremely tender and tasty. I also tried a cup of the clam chowder and that was also spot on. I'll surely be back! The staff was very friendly and helpful from the moment we walked in. The location was small but very cute. Typical for what you would imagine near the coast.

Came here because my wife and I wanted fried fish..particularly cod. We were seated immediately, waited on immediately and served immediately. We both had fish plates. I had mine with prawns and she had her's with Calamari. She also had a clam chowder cup. Unfortunately.. my wife's food was not lightly fried and she was unhappy with the quality of it. She stated that it was kinda burnt on some of it. She said the coleslaw was good. My food was lightly fried as it should be reach and every time. My fries were not really fresh either honestly and it lol like it was just the leftover ones from the bottom of the pan. They were not really hot either. It seemed as if the oil was not fresh this evening.

My sister and I came here for some seafood after crabbing on the pier next door. The takeout line was around 30+ people at 1PM, and it took 45 minutes between us joining the line and receiving our food. The dine-in line was a 2-hour wait when we arrived and had closed for the day by the time we left. In general, I'm not the type of person to wait for food no matter how good it is, and unfortunately I didn't think Barbara's Fishtrap was anything too special. My sister and I shared a mini fish-trap combo, Caesar salad, and a cup of soup-- we had almost 30% leftover. The variety of seafood in the combo is really nice! But I thought the breading was soggy and in general just really needed the sauce for a punch of flavor. The fried zucchini was by far the best thing we ate (it was seriously to-die for), which feels wrong for a seafood combo. :P Service was friendly and were trying their best to help everyone, but wow we could tell they were super overwhelmed. :( Would not come back but glad I tried it, especially with such a neighborhood hype around this place!

Six of us came for a late lunch before they closed. Apparently the tables outside are Only for take out orders. We ate family style and it was perfect. We ordered the shrimp Louie salad, bowl of clam chowder, tempura oysters and fried combo seafood platter It was perfect for 6 People. We divided up everything. And the 805 Beer was only $3. The shrimp Louie salad was fresh and delicious. The clam chowder was loaded with a creamy consistency. Excellent! Our server was Kim who has worked there for 40+ years! The tempura oysters was crispy and juicy. The Barbara fish trap Fried platter had a variety of everything. Everything was crispy, hot and perfectly cooked.

Our party of three was second in line when they opened the restaurant for lunch. The restaurant is small, but we were happy to get a table with a window. It's decorated with a fish net on the ceiling and plastic fish in the nets. The food was pretty good. Everything tasted fresh, but there was no seasoning on anything. The breading on the fish was a little soggy. The service was disappointing and hurtful. The waiter waited on every table around us before finally coming to us. Water was brought to every table in the restaurant before it was brought to ours. We were quiet and polite, so there was absolutely no good reason to treat us so poorly. It was painfully obvious that the waiter did not want to wait on us for some reason.

Parking was easy with a lot conveniently located across the street. We arrived when the restaurant itself was closed, but the takeout window had just opened. They actually close between service periods to change the oil, which I appreciated because it helps keep the fried food tasting fresh. One thing to note is that the line can get pretty long. I would recommend arriving about 15 minutes before the takeout window opens and getting in line early if you're visiting during a busy time. There is some outdoor seating available, but tables are limited. Be prepared to grab a bench or take your food to go if it's crowded. The seafood was incredibly fresh, and everything we ordered was fried to perfection! It was crispy on the outside without feeling greasy. You can tell they take pride in the quality of their food. Overall, it's a great spot for fresh seafood and definitely worth the wait in line.

EAT HERE BEFORE 2-4 they close to change their oil. Also, be aware that there might be a long wait. Insanely good fish and chips. The tartar sauce is the best I've ever had. I got the fish of the day sandwich and it was absurdly good. Pair that with good fries and $3 beers, this place offers an unbeatable combo. Another 5 star banger in Half Moon Bay :)

This was my second time here, so I already knew the drill. We came earrrrrlyyy. They open at 11 AM, and we got there at 10:20 AM and were second in line. I gotta say... I think twice is enough for me. The food is definitely fresh, but not the freshest I've ever had, especially considering the price. It's pretty overpriced for what you get. I'm not sure why, but the fish and chips weren't as seasoned as they were during my first visit. We ended up adding a lot of salt this time around. The garlic cheese bread is an absolute must-order honestly, it was my favorite thing we had. The oysters were very creamy and fresh, which I enjoyed. The ambiance is still the biggest reason to come here. The views and atmosphere are fantastic, and the service is great too. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and smiling throughout our visit. Overall, I'm glad I gave it a second try, but it'll probably be a while; or maybe never...before I come back.

My fiance was not a fan of the table that they sat me at while he parked the car so when he came in he asked if we could switch. They were more than happy to accommodate and we got a new table facing the ocean view window, but not next to it, because those are reservation only, completely understandable. Our server came by and was very friendly and took our order immediately. We decided to start with the poached shrimp cocktail and for our mains we ordered the pesto stuffed salmon with wild rice and the citrus beet salad with chicken added. After we finished our appetizer the hostess came by to kindly request we switch tables as they had a large party coming in. She took us over to a beautiful table right next to the window with an amazing view of the ocean! We were super thrilled! Our food came shortly after and I have to say the salmon was impeccably delicious. The assortment of fresh vegetables was wonderful, artichoke hearts, string beans, carrots and more cooked beautifully. My fiance really enjoyed his grilled chicken over the top of his beet and citrus salad. We actually switched plates for a bit because we wanted to enjoy each other's meals. I don't think I've ever driven by and not seen what looks like full/almost full parking lot - though I did learn they have a bit of extra parking that isn't visible from highway 1. We lucked out and were able to get a window seat with an ocean view. They also have plenty of outdoor seating, but it was quite windy when we were in, so we opted for the protection of dining inside. Lots of stuff on the menu sounded good, but I saw two people eating lobster rolls and knew that was what I had to get. They have both a naked and dressed option, I went with the dressed for more flavor. The roll was loaded up on the lobster, no skimping here. I also got some oysters, which were the highlight of the meal for me. My dad wanted to sub out something on the dish he wanted, and our waiter was very happy to help him build something custom. He also got a cup of chowder, which was very good. It is Sam's Chowder House, afterall. Even though it's probably the most popular spot in Half Moon Bay, I wouldn't say it's the best. The ribs were a very generous portion, tender, and glazed with a truly excellent BBQ sauce. Honestly, the glaze was better than I've had in restaurants specializing in ribs. Peruvian beer, specifically Cuzquena Lager was the perfect libation. Karen C. was the server, and she displayed absolutely no characteristics of a Miami Vice villain.
