Had a great dinner out. White sangria was unexpectedly rather bitter but I was told the red sangria was wonderful. Our table ordered several tapas to start. The hummus was a very generous serving and was delicious! The burrata with jamon and poached pears was also delicious! The octopus, pork belly, figs, salad, and fresh bread were all very good. We ordered the meat platter for the table and everything was cooked perfectly and juicy. It was busy and did get a bit loud but not obnoxiously so. Staff was very attentive and friendly. Booth benches are attached and we felt every moment of the couple seated behind us which was slightly annoying at times. Maybe some screws need tightening or some cross-bracing would help with this! read more

Incredibly popular and well-known restaurant. I came here with my dad on a busy Tuesday night before Thanksgiving to grab a late dinner bite. I had recently returned from studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain and was missing the food like crazy. We ended up ordering about 6 dishes. Our waitress was excellent and I loved the ambiance of the restaurant. What we ordered: Gambas al Ajillo: the best tapas on the menu! Wish the dish was a little larger but overall they were incredible. Blistered shishito peppers: very delicious peppers and a great portion. Jamón and Manchego croquetas: was not impressed at all. They were boring and very small compared to the real versions in Barcelona. They weren't even the shape they are suppose to be. Calamari: they were good but nothing special... large portion which was nice. Beef empanadas: horrible. Edible yes... but something I'd order again? Never. They were bland and didn't do anything. They needed to have more meat inside them as well as a better dipping sauce. Fuet: delicious dry-cured pork sausage! Highly recommend ordering. Our waitress offered us a free plate of the Brussel sprouts because there was a mistake but I'm so glad we said yes because they were delicious!!! Mouth watering good and so very crispy. Barcelona is one of my favorite spots to go for a couple tapas n some good drinks. I have been to a bunch of the locations, & I would say Fairfield & Norwalk are my 2 favorites. I do like that they tend to have some variation in their menu, & most of the things i've tried that aren't their 'regular tapas' have been great too. Some of my fave dishes here include the Patatas Bravas, Gambas, the chicken empanadas, the cauliflower, & the hanger steak. For drinks, I either opt for a Summer street sling or an Aviation made w/titos.(i don't like gin) The crepas w/dulce de leche are out of this world, we always end up sharing an order at the end. read more

I love Barcelona and the vibe it brings! It's perfect for date night or a night out with friends! My favorite tapas are the zucchini, the beef empanadas, and the hummus! I also love the Guns and Rosés sangria, but all other wines on the menu have been great as well. Just an overall great vibe with amazing tapas! My only con is, I've had a rather poor waitress the past three times I've visited and I coincidentally keep getting her. She's forgotten tapas which is excusable but she would only return to our table after 25 minutes and act suprised when the tapa has still not arrived. She also tried to snap my real identification, assuming I was not of age to drink. Rob the manager invited me back to make up for the bad experience. I decided to take him up on the offer and made a reservation for my birthday dinner with my husband. The service and food was outstanding this time. We ordered Chorizo Picante and the Paella Mariscos for two. The manager told us that the Paella would take about 45 minutes and offered to bring a few tapas to the table while we waited. He brought Crispy Orange Cauliflower, Jamon & Manchego Croquetas and Heirloom Tomatoes. Everything was delicious and we were thinking we couldn't eat another bite. Then the Paella arrived! The prawn were the size of mini lobsters. The paella was so good, we ate the whole thing. Knowing it was my birthday they came out with a tray of desserts. Flourless chocolate cake, Olive Oil Cake and Crepes. Everything was out of this world. Service was much better this time. The waitresses (2) did know that we had bad service last time though. The restaurant has a nice outdoor patio which I enjoyed. They have a large menu where you can pick different small dishes and can taste a variety of foods. I don't eat meat so when I asked the waitress to have a dish made without the meat, they were very accommodating. My only complaint was that the cheesecake tasted gamey. Very unusual taste. Obviously it was not made with cows milk. I was looking forward to a delicious cheesecake and I was very disappointed. What a nice place to stop on a recent road trip. There's a mix of tapas, a variety of cheese/charcuterie offerings, as well as some sandwiches and salads. My wife and I got a variety of tapas to enjoy. The jamón/manchego croquetas, the gambas al ajillo, and the patatas bravas were both pretty authentic to the real thing. The chicken empanadas were mixed - the filling was so delightfully spiced but the crust was doughy, not like the crispy exterior I was hoping for. The avocado mousse was a fabulous accompaniment. The chorizo and fig tapa was the star. I was skeptical of the combination, but it was a match made in heaven. This dish pushed the experience from 3 to 4 stars. I definitely recommend this one. There is a pretty extensive drink list. My wife got a white sangría which was a fantastic cocktail. I had a local beer and a glass of fino sherry (side note: our waiter erroneously recommended I wait for dessert since "all sherry is sweet" - it isn't. Dry sherry is a common aperitif with tapas). I could drop a pretty penny on the many offerings. It is not a cheap place, but some of the offerings are definitely affordable. Service is fast and friendly. I have been coming to this location for years and I have never been disappointed with the food, wine and the service. Waitstaff is very informed of the ever changing menu and always able to recommend some new tapas for us to try. The portions on some tapas may be small but that's why they're translated to small plates! All of the waitstaff are attentive and thoughtful without being too pushy. Definitely ask what they recommend and try some specials out of your comfort zone! My favorite tapas are ones that seem to be staples on their menu - the gambas, hangar steak, mushrooms and goat cheese and the patatas bravas. I was able to purchase the Barcelona cookbook a few years back and have recreated the dishes which come out very, very good. Even though I can make some at home, there's nothing like going here for a nice glass of wine and the amazing ambiance. Really glad the cookbook is available on their website because it will make a great gift for the foodie in your life! I was there last night for NYE dinner. We haven't been at Barcelona for many years and thought we would return for a nice dinner for NYE. The first misstep of all which was a BIG NO NO was a big chip on the small plates on the table. Once again the dish that they put the olive oil on for the bread also had a big chip on it. No attention to detail there and very dangerous. The other BIG NO NO and especially in times of COVID was one of the tapas we ordered kept circulating throughout the restaurant as the busser asked a table behind us and than walked passed our table and went into the main dining room and about 3 minutes later returned to our table with that dish, needless to say, I sent him back to get us a fresh dish. Don't they know better to perhaps go back to the kitchen and find out which table it should go to. I feel that no one in this establishments cares about overall customer appreciation and experience and the server's were not well trained in my opinion because ours said she even forgets sometimes what dishes her table ordered. How can one server not remember what dishes each table orders, its no EXCUSE in my opinion. I work in the healthcare sector as a patient care coordinator, if I make one misstep, that means I didn't put the patients interest at heart or have a sense of urgency or cared about their needs. If it wasn't for a few good plates of tapas, you wouldn't even see me giving 2 stars. Not to mention the paella seemed dried and the clams were rough. We didn't bother staying for dessert and thank god for QR code checkout for our check because its safe to say, if it wasn't for a few good tapas, no tip would have been given. Went with a small group recently. A pretty underwhelming experience. We went on a Wednesday for lunch. Only about 4 tables of people there and yet the Tapas took a long time to come out. Some were good but others were pretty lousy. By far the thing that annoyed me the most was we had a runner, (young heavy set guy) when he would come out with food he would just call out the item and put it in front of who was closest to him, and we would have to figure it out. Same with silverware, he comes to the table and just drops it in a pile so we have to pass the table settings out. Just seemed like a guy who couldn't care less about doing a thorough job. It's a shame how this place has fallen. The once great Barcelona of Norwalk has basically been franchised. We use to go often, sometimes twice a week to the original. This is now my third Barcelona that I've been to, and I have to say, it may be my favorite. Although it's near the highway, there's an open outdoor seating area that's perfect for a lovely summer day. Inside, you'll see beautiful dark lit tables perfect for dates. Come during happy hour (4-6pm) for an entire pitcher of sangria for only $20 and tapas for $3-$5. I'm so happy I did! My waitress Jacqueline was so sweet and so attentive. She deserves accolades for being so friendly and kind! Rob--I think the manager-- stopped by as well, and he genuinely cares about all of his customers and their satisfaction with their meal. I ordered roasted chickpeas, marinated olives, and bacon wrapped dates (which were so heavenly and fulfilling). My mom had the mussels, beat salad, and took full share of their complimentary bread and oil. I ended up finishing almost the entire pitcher of white peach Sangria because it was just THAT good. I stopped here for a late lunch after an appointment in the area. The patio area was nice and Covid safe, so nice to be able to sit at a table and eat! Very Covid conscious with cleaning protocols and seating. I had the hangar steak with truffle vinaigrette and leeks a la plancha with salsa verde. How often do you find leeks served as a dish in themselves? Both were well prepared and seasoned. I almost turned down the bread but changed my mind and I'm so glad I did! The crust was as crispy and light as a potato chip, yet inside it was soft and moist. Served with olive oil for dipping, it was addictive and the thing I was the most excited about. Although this review is based primarily on dinner for one last weekend, this is another case where my opinion will be somewhat colored by previous experiences as well. I've been having dinner out alone more and more frequently so when I decided on a whim to catch a bite at Barcelona, I did so confident in that I would be comfortable. Long story short, I was, overall. First, let me say that even if I didn't live in Fairfield, the Fairfield Barcelona would be my Barcelona of choice. I've been to enough of the others to compare and contrast and while they all have individual merits and drawbacks (avoid Stamford, it's *insanely* loud), I find the groovy "underground" feel of Fairfield the most charming, especially with their little garden out on the lawn and lovely secluded patio. I arrived sans reservation say maybe 7pm on a Sunday and had to awkwardly hang around the vestibule for a minute before a hostess showed up. Is it me? Is it just my luck of the draw or are the hosts never at the host station? Anyway she was *super* friendly and self afacing so any annoyance was quickly erased. I took a too-big-for-me table out on the patio and she made certain to reassure me that I had every right to it, they were not busy and wouldn't be getting any busier. I found this response extremely satisfying as dealing with a singleton can often be a hurdle for less graceful hosts. She didn't just make me feel welcome, she made me feel wanted-- a very rare talent. Wish I caught her name so I could commend her directly. Anywho, blah blah, nice glass of rose, some grilled leeks and a lovely (if a little bit too untrimmed) NY Strip with shoestring fries and a terribly interesting red pepper dressing, I think they called it a red chimichurri. In the end I think a traditional chimi may have fit better but kudos on them being even a little different and trying something adventurous. My waiter was young, a little bumbling but visibly doing his best. Frankly and to my amusement I think he mistook my sardonic tone as a weird flirtation but even under that impression he acquitted himself pretty smoothly and with humor. Go figure, the one time I'm not hitting on the waiter, I get caught out. Took dessert which is a rarity for me but I went in hungry and on a mission so when the burnt Basque cheesecake was described to me as a "reasonable portion" when I asked if it were small, I caved. And he was right, it was manageable without feeling overpriced for a tiny bite. The coffee was pretty bad if I recall but otherwise super high marks on the food and a let's say A- on the service. So why only four stars? Because despite all the admitted positives, that's all they're worth. I've had great meals and fun times here but if you plug in to the culture and listen to the restaurant static, you get the distinct impression that this like all the other Barcelonae consider themselves too cool for school. West Hartford is not Manhattan and yet to differing degrees and results, each Barcelona carries itself with an assumed erudition bordering on pretention. And in point of fact, I'm fine with that as it has little to do with the dining experience however-- when you consistently fall down on basic functions such as prebussing tables, refilling wine glasses (You're a wine bar, right?) timing your courses (You're a tapas restaurant, right?) and general experience coordination, your aires are unearned. I can't rate five stars on the simple fact that I can't eat smug. Although I will say, a contributing factor to my affinity for it is that the Fairfield location seems to exude this vibe the least among its sisters. read more

As mentioned in my previous posts, my two previous orders had missing items and delays which did not live up to my expectations of the brand. Upon ordering tonight, I made mention of that and asked for a double check to ensure all the sauces were there. Not only was the order perfectly on time, they acknowledged the errors in the previous orders and made a serious effort to make it right with our order today. Their effort made us feel heard, and the personal touch from their manager in the past encounters really speaks to the importance they place on customer satisfaction. And that is unique to this place...bravo! So, after having a great birthday meal, they get their 5th star back in my review. They are still my favorite franchise for tapas and drinks. read more

Barcelona in Fairfield has a lovely outdoor area, and friendly, professional, and helpful staff. The menu is versatile with high quality food that is enjoyable, albeit a bit pricey, but tapas generally tend to be pricey. Overall a great experience - good for families, friends, dates, and more. My only slight peeve - while most of the tables outside where I sat were empty, my friend and I were (nicely and indirectly) asked to leave the restaurant after having lunch there for close to 2 hours. It's okay for US culture. I come from Europe where the norm is for people to be out at cafes or restaurants for a long time without being bothered, and waiters don't interrupt to check up on you every 5 minutes. But again, for the US culture and context, it can be unfortunately normal, eh. At least they were polite about how they communicated it. read more

Wow, this restaurant is great. I came with four friends and we were seated immediately. Our waiter gave us a bit of time to look at the large menu before asking about drink orders. He was very patient and nice about answering questions we had on the menu. Between the four of us we ordered a bunch of tapas and shared which was the way to go. We got: jalapeño hummus, patatas bravas, summer peach montadito, mushrooms and goat cheese, burrata, Jamon croquetas, spiced beef empanadas, and roasted short rib. My absolute favorites were patatas bravas - perfectly fried potato chunks with an insanely delicious garlic aoli. The summer peach montadito was also unreal - it was a thick piece of white bread with ricotta spread and peaches and mint on top. The sweetness with the ricotta was just right. The spicy beef empanadas had the right amount of spice and the tortilla was perfectly crispy. I will come back here for sure and try more tapas. read more

Sorry, Barcelona I had to take a star away. We went this a few weeks ago for my birthday and had AWFUL service. J had made reservations a month a head of time to sit outside--they tried to seat us inside..no thank you!! Secondly, we saw our waiter TWICE the whole time we were there. And yes, he was taking care of tables around us, just not us--and when we tried to get his attention, we were ignored. When you are sitting there for 20 minutes with an obviously empty bottle of wine and finished plates, that's horrible service. The manager ended up taking care of us--but yet, we were only comped one round of drinks. The food had gone downhill here too, quality wise...they took some things off the menu as well that were popular with us as well as a bunch of our friends. The only reason you guys are still three stars and not two is because of past experiences. We were planning on going to the SoNo location in June for an anniversary, but are seriously thinking of changing our plans.... read more

It's really a shame that it took so many years to finally venture in here. Emboldened by the Restaurant Week deals, I discovered that the vegetable tapas included many "accidentally" vegan delights, and even more that could be tweaked slightly to accommodate my needs. Service was impeccable; attentive, friendly, and considerate, but not the least bit overbearing. Our server, Marissa, was particularly wonderful, so you're in luck if she's in charge of your order on your next visit. The crispy Brussels sprouts were out of this world. Not the least bit greasy, but shatteringly crisp on the outside and impossibly green and tender inside, I can only dream of cooking them so well in my kitchen. The grilled asparagus with truffle vinaigrette was also well worth ordering, incredibly savory and delicious, despite the scant portion. Setas a la plancha pack an unexpectedly meaty punch, much richer than you'd expect from mere mushrooms. The key is to arrive early. Even on a busy night, you get a great meal here! For a place so well reviewed can i just say "Ditto" or "I concur" and go home? Lets start with the Wine list. It is very well diverse with some hidden gems that won't break the bank at all. We do shared small plates each time and our favorites are EVERY cheese and Meat to start with, depending on the mood that night. The scallops are always seared and cooked to perfection. Don't pass on the Bacon Wrapped Dates either, its that perfect combo of sweet and savory that could start or end your meal. Hanger Steak is another favorite as well. Make sure to visit in the warmer weather when the outside is open. Although i wish they would fire up the heat lamps outside in the winter so you can have a drink or 2 while waiting on your table. read more
