The ambiance and service was great! Our waiter even kindly gave us our dessert for free which was a nice gesture but our 20$ bacon wrapped filet that we asked to be medium rare was very dry and over cooked, well done to say the least. I am not one to complain and I never send food back but I did mention it in hopes I wouldn't have to pay for it and It was hardly edible. A few years ago we would eat at Bardenay regularly, then after a few less than stellar experiences (mostly with the service) we stopped. Wow! Just took my mom to dinner and the hosts at this restaurant were amazing!!! Made me feel so welcome and made the food taste 10x better.

The staff at the Hilton next door recommended the place, said it had "really good food". So my wife and I decided to give it a try. We were seated right away (6:30 pm) at a tiny barstool type table near the back of the restaurant. First impressions, very, very noisy and diffenetly a place to get a drink. Which explains alot! We ordered the Canlis Ceasar salad, no anchovies with grilled chipotle chicken, which we were promised wasn't spicy at all, and a cup of clam chowder. I got a Dr. Pepper and my wife stuck with the water that was brought to the table. The soda was your typical bar soda, mostly soda water with a little syrup to color it. It was sent back and when the second one was just as bad, it was also sent back and I did without. The soup and salad was delivered, and it was the worst soup and salad that we've ever had. Everything was spiced in such a way as to make you order more to drink. Even the Clam Chowder had that slow burn at the back of your throat going for it. The "House" Ceasar dressing was so watered down, it reminded me of the bar soda I sent back. So if you like booze and piss poor upscaled bar food, this is the place to go. read more

We were here on Labor Day at lunch and we're fortunate to be seated on the patio right on the pathway along the Boise River. We started with a,yummy smoked trout appetizer. Very good. We had 4 in our party and each had something we really liked: salmon and pear salad, panzzenela sald, chicken satay with lime ginger marinade and meatloaf sandwich and fries. A place I come each time I come to Idaho. Really good food. I had the quinoa burger and it was to die for. Would recommend it even if your not a vegetarian. It was super flavorful and really filling.. I could only finish half. Wasn't impressed with my Moscow mule is the reason for 4 stars. It came in a regular glass which was a little weird, plus, it tasted very fake sugary and not even like ginger. Other than that, always impressed. read more

You simply cant get a better place for beer selections. I'm sitting here having a cask style Mirror Pond Pale Ale and it's fantastic. Sure other places may have more beer choices but having a cask style brew is truly unique in my opinion. Haven't tried the food yet but I do make a point to visit this place when I'm in Boise. Horrible caesar salad. The menu is deceptive, advertising the add on "beef tenderloin." Well it was beef, but certainly not tenderloin. They charge $10 for 4 oz of "tenderloin" - that may be OK but ten bucks for a lousy cut of strip steak is not a good value. The salmon add on was overcooked and greasy. Beyond all that, the salads are completely unprofessional, with a glob of anchovies capped over little pools of lousy diced tomato, and overdone bacon bits leftover from several days ago. I asked for a dressed salad, but the waiter really didn't understand what that means. So you get a plate of chopped romaine, little pools of poor quality ingredients, and either overcooked frozen fish or tenderloin that isn't. I have had decent meals at Bardenay, but you best avoid the "Caesar" that isn't even close. read more

Yummy dinner tonight at Bardenay. I had a ginger rum cocktail John had a drink called a Basil instinct. Our entree's were a yellow fin sandwich with the best sweet potato fries ever and John had Kobe tacos which were fabulous. Beautiful outdoor seating. Alicia, our server was very friendly and extremely efficient. She and her husband are recent transplants from Santa Cruz. Love Boise and just bought a home. Memorial Day, 1245pm....we see a busy parking lot but take a chance anyway. Surprisingly find a table on the patio, just hadn't been bused yet. 10 minutes later, waitress and some busing. Bad sign that it took that long. But we endure. Some of the tables next to us are overheard complaining about an hour + to get their food. So about 40 mins after we order, we ask for an update from out waitress on status and to remind her we asked for fries as appetizer....she comes back 10 mins later to tell us the kitchen won't tell her when to expect our food (and still no fries).....which means to me it's still in the queue and not even printed. We decided to bail. I don't get it....place was busy, but not that busy. And, if food is usually 20 mins (which has been my experience) and as a waitress you know it's more like 45 to 70, then tell us BEFORE we order. I have a feeling most people at the restraunt had a poor experience today. Manager was no where to be seen. Pretty sad state of affairs at a place that I have enjoyed numerous times before. read more

Today, our visit tho the restaurant was with very mixed experience. Place was very busy as always. Few of us ordered mixed drinks, ours came in tall skinny glasses and for many reasons (sanitary especially) we were looking for a straws. We did ask person who delivered the drinks for few straws - never came back. Our waitress, 15 minutes later, when she was taking order for our food and we also did ask her for them, did never bring it either. One of us, finally, got up and went to nearest waiters station ( 15 steps away) and did bring few straws so we can finally drink our drinks. Dinner finally came, one steak - should have been medium was well done, something with a Hamburger - well done. And trout dinner - person found long dark hair in it. Restaurant did discounted Trout Dinner, but over all we were disappointed. We been there many times, it is a nice place and good food. I wish I could give a better rating, but after giving Bardenay four tries, I won't be going back after today. Their happy hour stinks! Most of their cocktails aren't even on the happy hour menu. Bardenay always has fun drinks - from the seasonal stuff to the Mystery Drink - a fun way to try something new. Happy Hour fare is always just right, not too much, but never skimpy. I personally am loving the fish and chips, but I get a salad in place of the chips. The breading is perfectly crispy and the fish chunks are HUGE! So if you prefer to sit at the bar, or a table top, you'll always have great service. Caroline, Mikey, Lisa, Jodi, basically everyone there is top notch! And if you're up for it afterwards, you're right next to the Boise River Greenbelt and can walk off your food! read more

Zero consistency......I've experienced near perfect service and food (which I come to expect from this establishment), but sometimes it feels like rookie training day.....I spoke to Vince the first time the Restaurant was off it's mark (1 year ago)....and he asked for a chance to make it right......and for several visits following, things were better....then yesterday, they had fallen off their average again. Unacceptable. Vince happened to be off that day, and the crew, were largely off par. Shame. I called Vince today (after first driving by to speak in person, when he was not in), and explained the events of yesterday's lunch visit, and to inform him, that was my last. read more

This restaurant just happens to be in one of my favorite places to walk - along the greenbelt, beside the Boise River, in Eagle, Idaho. My favorite dish at Bardenay is the salmon (to die for). The black bean/mango chimichangas are also good. My teenaged son likes the fettucine alfredo with garlic bread and the caesar salad. The inside is lively and large, the outside, deck area is very pretty, next to a pond and the greenbelt, with cool lighting at night. We've taken friends and our college-age kids and their friends to Bardenay many times, for good food at a reasonable price. read more

My husband and I frequent here regularly. No matter how busy they are they always have timely service. Their food is out standing. I often get the salmon sandwich or the tuna salad. Both have amazing taste and big portion size. The price is really reasonable. The environment of the restaurant is great for meetings or a casual date with a friend or spouse. I wouldn't say it is romantic because It can get pretty noise when they are busy. Over all always happy and satisfied when we leave. read more

The Trout was amazing! I would highly recommend it. Unfortunately, my husband was smart enough to order the trout and I was not. I can't remember the name of my dish, it was pasta with vodka sauce, the sauce was ok, the shrimp was really, really good!! Lemonade was awesome as well. Took my 4 year old son out for a special father/son dinner tonight at Bardenay. Partway through the meal he told me had to go to the bathroom. Tried to find the waiter on the way over to let him know what was going on but it was a 4-year old potty emergency. We left our napkins on our seats (rather than on the table, plus we hadn't even paid yet) and went. A few minutes later we came back to find our food gone and people sitting at our table. Night ruined. They offered to get us something else, but there were no tables left at that point, and we had already waited long enough for our food the first time. They gave us $4 off our meal...$4. Unbelievable. Update: So in the end management did the right thing. They reversed the charge for our dinner that night and sent us a gift card. Due to scheduling we haven't been back yet, but definitely plan to give it another try. We had eaten there multiple times previously and had always enjoyed our meals and the patio dining. Mistakes happen and humans do human things. While I'm certain everyone involved wishes things would have happened differently, in the end the people at Bardenay did the right thing and I applaud them for that. read more
