**non-smokers note this is a smoking establishment**. As an out of towner I might have found this is more common knowledge for locals. That being we had a nice greeting when we came in. From there it was clear I would not be back (tho we were here for an extended time.) Service very slow, had to ask a wandering server if we could place an order she look as if she were lost but we were in her section. You are going to pay 20% tip no matter the service and for regular good service I am above 20 but wonder if it makes for less desire to serve. Had the special (not so special) fish taco, very chewy and plain, also lobster bisque which was better but a bit thick for me, and finally blacken pork chops. Will give points for the chop but both brussel spouts and mac/cheese were under cooked. Maybe 7:00 is too early for dinner. read more

Don't go here unless you have all the time to spare and want to stand and or clean your own tables. This is a bar. I get it. You aren't expecting 5 star service at a bar. But you are expecting service of some sort. We came in and upstairs was completely full. We decided we would have better luck downstairs. That was not the case at all. It was just as packed. So back upstairs people were leaving the bar and a table. We grabbed the table. But once we didn't get service, a couple of us went to the bar because we wanted food and drinks. Then we asked if the table could be cleaned they said it was not priority for them which makes sense because they were working the bar. But where was the server. Another 15 minutes the table was cleaned by the bartender because the server never came. They couldn't get us food or drinks because that was still on the server since it was her table. So the two who went to the bar end up ordering and getting food. E finally got service and I'm positive the server was on something that was not alcohol. We finally all got our food. It was okay. Good for bar food. We only ordered one round of drinks because it took so long we couldn't risk awaking any longer. It even took about 15 or 20 minutes to get our checks. One person had walked out earlier without paying. She probably forgot she hadn't paid if she waited as long as we did. As we waited the guys next to us were smoking. I thought that was outlawed in TN but apparently not. If you have time to do nothing and just chat with friends while possibly standing, go for it. Other than that, may not be for you. read more

We came to the bar dog after running the half marathon for St Judes. Hungry, tired, thirsty and in pain, we limped along looking for a respite, and we found it at BarDog. When we entered, everyone cheered....at first we thought it was for the game, but then we realized the BarDog is the place where they might not know your name, but everyone cheers for you. We had sliders, both chicken and burger and a couple beers. Between the food, the beers and good company, we were revived and able to limp the last few blocks to our hotel. Thank you BarDog for providing a good spot for two tired runners to rejuvenate their legs and souls. We will be back next year! read more

This place was definitely divey and made me question myself but I loved it. At first glance I was like am I in a movie scene or naw? So it was late night and ID check at the door made me feel a bit comfortable because the security guy was actually conversational. My colleague and I went in and looked around. There's a downstairs area so of course we go for it but I felt like the frat boy foolishness may have been at play so we tipped back upstairs and grabbed a table. Now, they were busy-ish, and I say ish because maybe half the crowd was eating and the other half was just babysitting drinks and drinking more- combined crowd, and there were a few tables sitting with the sanitizing spray and a towel so the 2 of us being the service industry folks we are grabbed it and cleaned our own spot. Kool. The server came around and she was on fire keeping up with everything going on. Not sure how she did it but I loved the way she cut me off when I was ordering wings to say "oh no honey it's a wing shortage and we just don't have it." THANK YOU FOR NOT WASTING MY TIME and being up front! The food... my tenders and fries were so freaking good. It wasn't one of those nights after drinking as we had just gotten off work. They were freshly made and fried just right. I'm a bit out of words for something so simple that was so good. It'd almost a shamed lol. My colleague said the same for the salad he had. The chicken on top was A1 and the salad's greens were crisp. So definitely when in Memphis I'll tip in again for this great late night snack. (And cocktail) read more

Best hot dog in town. Excellent meatball sandwich. Ahi tuna wontons are great. Shoestring fries with the garlic aioli is a late night treat.

First off I have to say that the staff is phenomenal. Very friendly and make you feel at home even though we were from out of town. Drinks were good and flavorful. Food was tasty and good portions. Only reason I gave it a four and not a five is because of the smoking indoors. I am a non-smoker and it was a little odd to see a basement and a restaurant both having smoking sections. If you can deal with that then this is a fantastic place to go! read more

The worst, used to go the time , last visit with European friends were harrassed at the front door .. between a frisk down and aggressively asking a 60 year old women to take ger id out of wallet . Such a turn off! And it was 7pm .. the front people have no time to sense. I'm from New York City and I own bars. I've never treated somebody like that. Went for lunch. Place was a dog of a bar( lol) but really, what did I expect from a place called Bardog? I had a Turkey melt that was so so. The potato salad was okay if you like lumpy mashed potato with sour cream. My husband had the "Rambo" which had raw pieces of steak that he couldn't chew. He was hungry so he ate half the sandwich. Our bill was just over $45 for the 2 sandwiches and 1 draft beer! Ridiculous. My husband tried to say something to the manager but the manager said if my husband hadn't eaten so much of the sandwich he (manager) could have done something. Oh well. Downtown bar for dive bar eats and drinks! We had chicken tenders and meatballs appetizers for a late lunch. The chicken was hand breaded and tasty! It comes with honey mustard and fries. We liked the portion six tenders for sharing if you want a snack. The meatballs had a wonderful flavor and were huge, 4 count. We also had a hoagie roll to go with the marinara sauce. Fun atmosphere with loud music and tvs and good brunch specials. As others said the whole letting people smoke is weird but they have fans and vent the space. Still it's odd in this day to be eating with smokers so I had to take off two stars. On the other hand,they also had lots of cool brunch menu items. Think of it as old school dive bar meets 2017. We wanted to go somewhere other than Beale St for lunch and we like casual restaurant/bars. All 6 of us ordered different food and everything was very good! Our service was excellent and everyone was very friendly. I have been to this bar/restaurant two times. The first time was pre-Covid with some friends. We had some beers and fries and had a good time. Definitely more of a social scene. What I'm trying to say is don't come for the food. The guys who work here are super nice, so I wish my takeout order hadn't been so awful . I got some hot wings. They weren't even 1% crispy. My friend and I each took a bite of one and had to throw the rest out. (And I hate wasting food, but these were bad). Tasted like defrosted super market wings. And then we got the calamari. My friend has had It in restaurant, and she said It was good when she dined in, but this take-out order really missed the mark. A bunch of whole little squiddies where you could still see the heads and not nice little circular pieces like I'm used to seeing. Moral of the story: don't come for the food (or at least what I ordered) and you won't be disappointed. read more

The service and local beer selection deserve 5 stars, but the food was 3 stars... ergo, my 4 star rating. Bardog Tavern is tucked away on a quaint block off Monroe Ave in downtown Memphis. It's easily accessible for parking, but expect to feed a meter. My partner and I were immediately greeted by our hostess/server/bartender named Taryn. She is so upbeat and seemed to thoroughly enjoy her job(s.) Taryn took our temperatures & contact info, then sat us at a clean, cozy booth/table in the back of the tavern. I liked that they have a hand sanitizer pump on every table. We were pleased with the LOCAL beer selection! I ordered Ghost River Grindhouse on tap. I had never tried it before. It's a creamier pale ale, and absolutely delicious! My partner ordered a Memphis Made Fireside on tap which never disappoints! Taryn quickly grabbed our beers behind the bar. They were served with the perfect amount of head and chilled in a frosty glass beer mug. I was suprised that the beer stayed cold for almost 30 minutes! We ordered the Bardog Poo Poo platter that is an assortment of shrimp skewers, pork & veggie egg rolls, crab rangoon, buffalo chicken tenders, and shoestring fries. Each appetizer was just okay with the crab rangoon being my least favorite and the egg rolls being the best on the platter. While the taste of the food was meh, it was served fresh and delivered promptly by our delightful server, Taryn. Bardog Tavern is a good vibe dive bar with delicious beer and amazing staff having dealt with just Taryn! The next time we go back, I am going to call ahead to see if Taryn is working first. Completely horrible service..! Came into this small tavern to get out of the heat and enjoy a cold drink. The waitress had to shout just to ask what we wanted to order, as the music was cranked to a thousand decibels. Simply impossible to hear anything. Once I could hear what the waitress ask I placed my food order, then she walked away never asking me what I wanted to drink. The food service was slow at best. Worse the food was cold and tasted like cardboard. I would find more flavor coming from the unwashed tables I sat at. Avoid this hole-in-wall dive bar like the plague. They offer an upstairs and downstairs lounge, but my friend and I opted for the lower level where we could watch the game and it would be less crowded. It felt like I was in a cellar, very cool spot! The waiter was attentive, and we ordered some drinks and then had food. I opted for the chicken cutlet sandwich with a side of potato salad. The sandwich was good, I liked that it had roasted red peppers on it and the potato salad was your run of the mill mayo salad. My only complaint is that my cutlet came on white bread, but that might have been the only option (our waiter didn't ask and I didn't either). Overall they serve bar food, but from my sampling I was impressed! Bardog is a fun spot if you are looking for a place to escape the ultra touristy Beale Street for a bit! read more
