I researched stores of this nature online and was pleased to find the website for Bark Dog Spa. I live 50 miles away but was going to be in the area so I made a special trip to purchase a birthday cake for my dog. the website boasted an "ever expanding bakery" with treats and birthday cakes. When I entered the store I immediately saw empty shelves and display cases where, purportedly, the bakery items were stocked. I saw no other "boutique items" that were touted on the website. Since the store clearly didn't have what I wanted, I asked the employee if they could recommend somewhere else I could find a dog bakery; "no, sorry, I don't know". I'm willing to accept that a merchant would not want to send business to a competitor, but, this potential customer will not consider returning to this store for anything I the future. I cut people a lot of slack, but when a business owner creates a website to generate business, I find it inexcusable when the website is not maintained with accurate information. I have a large, full coated OES who is groomed professionally once a month; I was considering using the grooming services at Bark Dog Spa, but, this first encounter was so disappointing that I've decided not to do business here. read more

This place is a nightmare. The employees are inept and rude. Had to pick up my dog bc he was "being difficult". Guess what: no dog likes to take a bath. This whole ordeal wasted a full hour of my time-driving to/from back to/from. I booked the appointment several days in advance, provided documentation in advance that my dog had his rabies vaccine, and gave the type of breed (English bulldog). "We don't have the right muzzle. Also, per the owners policy, the dog can't be on drugs". I clarified that the dog was on his prescribed medicine and the return was "sorry, we don't have the right muzzle"? I have been a customer for almost 5 years going there . I have taken all my dogs there i have lost 2 in the past few years , i now have for 3 shih tzus and a miniature dachshund but him i only get the nails cut. So the past year i have did a express for my older dog which is i pay . well i made a appointment for him and one of my other shih tzus and they got my older dog done and 4.5 hours for the next . I know they need to run a business but what they are doing is taking all the people who pay extra and the others who dont is groomed last . they do great work on my dogs but i dont want my dog or dogs in a cage for almost 4 hours . They have gone up on there prices 4 times i never complained because i know they have to make money but i will never go back so i am looking for a new groomer. read more

I took my baby Mango to Annie today, and he came out looking like a star! Mango has pretty long fur and I try my best to brush him and deshed him when I can, but he can get impatient and squirm away. The litter smell started to get trapped in his fur and he would occasionally get poop on his hind legs since his fur was so long. I found out about Bark Dog and Spa while searching through Yelp and gave them a call immediately! The receptionists were super friendly and helpful (I think I met about 2-3 and each one were very sweet!). I called last week and was able to book an appointment for this week. Annie only comes by a few days of the week so it may or may not be easy to get next day appointments. I spoke with Annie when I dropped him off in the morning and she understood exactly what I wanted. It was my first time, and I've never really heard about cats being shaved or trimmed unless they absolutely had to be, so I wasn't sure which kind of cut he was going to get. I am not a fan of the lion cut at all, but Annie reassured me he would look proportional! There's a hair chart you can look at to determine how much fur you want your baby to have, and it was super helpful. Mango got a bath and cut. My total was about $89. A little pricey, but I understand since cats are a little more difficult to groom than dogs. Mango was absolutely relaxed while he was there though so I am very happy about that! I tipped $20 since I was so happy! Since he does not need to get his fur trimmed for a while, I did not mind spending ~$100 for the great look. Will add pictures as soon as I can! read more

*My dog got kennel cough here (they do not require the bordetella vaccine) They do a great job grooming. However, they do not require the Bordetella vaccine. They only require the rabies vaccine. I have taken my dog here around 5 times and have never had an issue until yesterday. I took my dog yesterday for a bath and nail trim and then took him straight home. He was not around any other dogs other than at Bark Dog Spa and now he has kennel cough. I called them this morning and the lady informed me that they only require a rabies vaccine, I was not aware of this until now. I assumed when they got my dog's records from they vet they required all standard vaccines, but they do not. I am really disappointed that they don't require this vaccine. A lady working there told me they had around 15 dogs back there when I picked my dog up and called that a slow morning. If a grooming place has 15+ dogs in kennels for 3-4hours total per dog, this vaccine should definitely be required for the safety of all of the dogs being groomed. I really liked this place but I will not bring my dog back here until they require the Bordetella vaccine. *my dog is fully vaccinated and has the Bordetella vaccine! He is up to date on all of his shots and probably got it from a dog that is not since they only require rabies and thats it. read more

Ridiculously expensive. over $150 to groom a 15 pound dog. Asked for hair an inch long. It was easily 3 inches or longer. Didn't look like he had been groomed. Supposedly he was "wiggly". He's a 6 month old puppy of course he was wiggly. If you can't groom a 15 pound puppy you shouldn't be grooming. Cannot imagine they spent long enough on him to earn $150 fee, plus ask for a tip which I was guilted into giving because they're standing right there. read more

I've tried other groomers in Athens and was blown away by how much better this place was compared to others. Friendly staff! And my dog looks absolutely adorable for my wedding. Sometimes dog grooming places get snooty when your dog is a mutt like mine but they welcomed her with open arms and I can tell she was treated well! Will certainly be returning. read more

We had a great experience the FIRST time we used this groomer, and I was so thrilled to find them because my geriatric, half blind, falling apart little old dog was happy and wagging his tail like a puppy when I came to pick him up after his first haircut. I thought I'd found the best groomer in the world and that we'd be loyal customers for the rest of my dog's life. The mistake we made was trying to go back a second time. They'll treat you great on your first visit, but if you're a repeat customer, it's a different story. I booked our appointment over a week in advance and showed up when we were supposed to, and even managed to make it there a few minutes early so I'd have time to give them a recap about my dog's health condition before his appointment (so THEY didn't get held up because of us, just like I did the first time we went)...all of that, despite the fact that it was at the most inconvenient time imaginable for me (but they told me that's all they could offer us, so I turned my entire schedule upside down to take the appointment anyway because they'd been so good with my dog the first time we went.) It was 30 degrees the morning of our appointment, and due to the pandemic, they were (supposedly) coming out to take dogs in rather than letting customers come into the facility...which would have been fine, but we were ignored when we stood at the front door. My dog is very old and very small and can't handle the cold. When he started to shiver even while I was holding him to try to keep him warm, I called them from the other side of their solid glass storefront to ask if they could come out to get him since we'd been standing out there (completely visible to them from the inside, mind you) in sub freezing temperatures while they ignored us...and they said no, we'd just have to keep waiting (outside, in the 30 degree freezing cold)...and then they told me "bye-bye." That's a direct quote. "Bye-bye." So...we left. Who wouldn't have, after something like that? I turned my entire schedule upside down for this appointment, postponed taking my car into the shop to get the heater fixed for another full week, and made 50 minute round trip in the freezing cold for no reason other than to have this business freeze my dog half to death and refuse to let him in for his appointment, which they even called and interrupted my workday the day before to confirm. Talk about insult to injury. I mean...wow. Just...wow. Now, on top of all the time that already got wasted over this, I have to reschedule the rest of my weekend and postpone even more things that needed to get done so I can make time to cut my dog's hair myself before his vet appointment next Monday. I guess that's what I deserve for trying to be a good customer to a business I previously held in high regard. How dare I do such a thing, right? I was absolutely shocked, because they'd previously been so good to us that I'd showered them with praise and even referred other customers to them...and I regret that now. I never would have recommended this place if I had any idea they'd do something like this. What a slap in the face. If you want to take your dog here once, I'm sure it would be fine...but don't make the mistake of thinking you'll be treated well if you try to become a regular customer, and don't make the mistake of thinking this place cares about your pet. They literally left my dog out in the cold, even though we were repeat customers and we'd booked an appointment over a week in advance. The biggest issue is really this: What kind of animal care facility refuses to let a tiny senior dog who is literally freezing in 30 degree temps come inside when he has an appointment? That's cruel. I recently took my Brussels Griffon here for a full groom upon the recommendation of the office assistant at my vet's office. I must say that I was a bit nervous after his last groom at a different location. The groomer gave him a horrible cut in addition to cutting his paw pad, which required a trip to the emergency vet. I called on a Friday, he had an appointment on Monday. When I walked in, the woman at the front was so nice and made a big deal about how cute Pumpkin was. She then asked if I wanted a standard Brussels Griffon cut. I was so relieved that they were familiar with his breed and their standard cut. She was also really happy that I brought some treats for him. His groom was $50 for a bath, nail trim and file, anal gland expression, blueberry facial, and cut-of your choice. When I came to pick him up. He looked so fantastic, and has never had a better groom. He was also completely calm, but very glad to see me. Although it is a bit on the expensive side, I highly recommend Bark Dog Spa. I have a Husky-Shepard who had had trouble adjusting to the GA heat. The staff at Bark do a "defurmination" with her that works wonders...and she is always a happy pup when we leave! read more

The groomers here are wonderful, especially Laura. I have two difficult rescue dogs that others were not interested in grooming. Laura knew exactly how to connect with my most difficult one who was abused and has great difficulty connecting with people other than her family. The other dog has a weeing problem, but they work very gently with her and make her feel comfortable. Everything is spotlessly clean in the salon with no dog odor. I couldn't say one thing bad about this place. I love love love this place. When you walk in the place is super cute and clean. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. Their prices are very fair. I took my Boston terrier there to get groomed. When I picked her up she looked so shiny and clean. Her face smelled like blueberries and she still smells like heaven and it's been 3 days. Her nails are perfectly filed down down and smooth. The ladies there are just so sweet to the dogs there. You can hear them baby talking the dogs they groom. It seems like they want to groom your pet and that they love their job. Will only take my dog to them. These groomers do a great job! I took my two dogs here the other day, and their cuts were exactly what I wanted! My dogs came home smelling clean (not perfumed) and were so happy for the rest of the day. Their hours are also a bonus, they open around 7:30 and close at 6, so you can drop your dogs off before work and mine were finished by lunch. It was a little expensive, but compared to the services of other groomers, it was worth it. At other places in Athens, my dogs have come home with little cuts, rashes, etc. from the clippers, but we've never experienced that here! No irritations at all!! read more
