    Club Sandwich

Finally got to try Barksdale's in Midtown. Pretty good set up. Very much like a diner that serves breakfast all day and they do have lunch specials. I ordered the griddle cakes with crispy bacon. The pancakes came with honey butter and syrup. Also had a pretty decent cup of coffee. My friend ordered the club sandwich with fries. The fries were nice and hot. She said it was very good. We had a fin time dining there. There are plenty tables and chairs as well as booths. The place is decorated with a variety of sports pics, articles and Christmas decor. It is a very cozy diner. There is parking in the front and back of the restaurant. Our server Christopher was awesome! He was very nice and friendly. There was a steady flow of customers which is a good sign. I will return to try some lunch specials. Good experience!

OMG!! Who knew that this diner would serve some of the best griddle cakes I've ever had. They were buttery, fluffy, and had crisp edges. The bacon was served perfectly, lightly crispy, but not hard. The orange juice tasted fresh squeezed and was delicious. The service was great. Our waiter made sure to check on us periodically and ensured we were having a good experience. I can't wait to go back to try the oatmeal.

I was so excited to arrive back in Memphis to find Barksdale's back open. The nostalgic ambiance was kept as they recovered from the fire. The interior has been updated but it still so warm and inviting. The restaurant was bustling and breakfast did not disappoint. The coffee cups stayed full with piping hot delicious coffee. Omelets and French Toast was so yummy. The stay was friendly.

Every time I come to this spot it's like coming home! The waiters are so kind and make you feel at home. Even the food tastes like grandma's cooking. I had the griddle cake with scrambled eggs and sausage and all I can say is my lord. The food had me slapping my knee it tasted so good. If you are ever in the area check this place out you will not be disappointed. This landmark just doesn't disappoint, they hit the mark every time.

The Grand Slam was outstanding. I asked for the Memphis hot chicken to be half their full heat. They brought the sauce on the side and made my eggs scrambled with cheese as requested. The service was impeccable, quick, accurate, and friendly. We loved seeing the Penny Hardaway and Elvis memorabilia on the walls. The coffee was great as well and they were quick to offer refills. 10/10 experience. Thank you Barksdale's, y'all started our Saturday off right!

Great food served with Southern Hospitality. Had the Denver Omelet, Grits, a Biscuit, with an unsweetened iced tea. The Grits here are different than what I've had recently in Louisiana. Both versions are great, but the Grits here at Barksdale's were not heavy on the butter, and very easy to eat. Be sure to order biscuits - plural - because you're going to want two of them. They're served with honey butter and a jam, both are a nice touch! The place is clean. Parking is easy. What more do you need in a diner? Stop by ASAP if you're in the area.

Visited this place on the first week of opening. (I did not know that at my time of visit) We were hoping for breakfast when we arrived at 11am. We had to help collect the dishes and wipe down our table prior to seating. No big deal. I'm sure they were short staff. Now, they advertised as an all day breakfast place.Unfortunately, once the waiter brought the menus he informed us that they had ran out of breakfast items. All of it!! So, we were told only lunch menu available. At this point I'm hungry and just want to eat. My guest ordered a patty melt (decent enough to eat) and I the country fried chicken steak. My food was disgustingly bland, smothered on a peppery gravy. The mash potatoes were water down. No flavor at all!! I took 3 bites and could not eat anymore!! I'll never come back! But, the pricing was decent. But still won't visit again. First impression matters to me.

    Country ham plate.

Our first trip back since they reopened with new owners. The food was great the service was friendly and the place looked and felt the same as before. I got the country ham plate came with a big ol' piece of ham 2 eggs and hash browns and a large biscuit that was nice and buttery. It still has that diner feel . Don't hesitate to give them a try.

The food however was honestly meh (in my opinion). I got a creole dish and to be fair my dish looked beautiful. The plating was 10/10 but the taste for me left something to be desired. After eating this dish I questioned if I even like creole sauce because it really just wasn't that good. If this is a preference issue, I honestly don't know. I also thought the charcuterie appetizer had a weird mix of items on it from club crackers, to meat and cheese, and random veggies. Not bad but just kind of a weird mix. My husband ordered the salmon and he said it was good, not the best he's had but it was good. Other friends of ours got the white fish among the many other dishes. I did have a salad with these apples on it which was incredibly yummy. I will say though my dish looked amazing some of the other dishes were not plated well. Not to nitpick but to want to be considered a more upscale restaurant which means charging guest more money than say a local Applebee's then knowing how to appropriately garnish or drizzle sauce to elevate at plate is important (see my picture of the chicken dish). All and all not my favorite restaurant but definitely not the worst!!

There is plenty of parking in a lot across the street. We went inside and found it to be pretty busy, but we got a table for 4 quickly. The place was clean and homey-feeling and I loved the fact that they used disposable plates, utensils and napkins! It is probably way easier on the crew to clean up, and it adds to the relaxed atmosphere. I had the corn nuggets to start, yum! We finished them easily, they were so good. Then the entree of my chicken tenders, beans, and Mac and cheese came out, along with my sweet tea. The sweet tea was perfect, I drank a whole one during my meal and they gave me another to go in the souvenir Gus's cup. The food was just great, chicken was juicy and perfectly crunchy on the outside. Beans and Mac and cheese, delicious! I ate all of it even though I was stuffed. I even went so far as to order a piece of pecan pie for dessert, but unfortunately our server came back out to tell us they were out of it! Guess it wasn't meant to be (this time)! Our server was really friendly during our whole meal, chatted with us a little and made sure we had a great experience! Bottom line.... Go to Gus's!

I visited the original downtown Memphis location with a group of about ten colleagues, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. Everyone ordered their own chicken plates, and then we loaded the table with enough sides and appetizers to feed an army. The star of the show, of course, was the chicken. Perfectly crispy, juicy, and seasoned with just enough heat to keep things interesting without overwhelming the flavor. I'm a dark meat fan, so the thighs and legs were exactly what I was hoping for. The fried green tomatoes were fantastic. Thin, delicate coating, perfectly cooked, and gone almost immediately. We also ordered the fried okra. While I'm not usually an okra enthusiast, a little ranch dressing made quick work of that problem. The sides deserve their own round of applause. The coleslaw was fresh and crisp, the baked beans were rich and flavorful, and the macaroni and cheese was hands-down one of the favorites at the table. We even ordered a fresh batch of fries because sometimes more fried food is exactly the right decision. Despite being completely stuffed, we couldn't leave without trying some pie. We took slices of chocolate chess pie, coconut pie, and sweet potato pie back to the hotel, and every one of them made for a perfect late-night snack. Service was excellent, especially considering the size of our group. Food arrived promptly, drinks stayed filled, and the staff kept everything moving smoothly. The value was outstanding for the quality and quantity of food we received. If you're visiting Memphis and wondering whether Gus's is worth the stop, the answer is yes. Bring friends, order extra sides, save room for pie, and enjoy one of the city's most iconic meals. Life is too short not to eat well. Get yourself some chicken.

This location is a large building with lots of seating options. I had to try Central as it keeps winning awards and is consistently mentioned as the top BBQ place in the Memphis area. Some of their awards were displayed at the entrance and on the walls. Lots of history. My wife ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich and had the slaw on the side so I could have it (she's not a slaw fan). I had the small order of ribs with 1/2 dry and 1/2 wet with sides of BBQ Beans and Mac n Cheese. I tried the pulled pork and it was tender and delicious. My ribs were pretty good with my favorite part being the wet ribs. The dry part was overcooked and really dry and chewy. This was a bit of a disappointment. The BBQ beans were flavorful but a bit mushy. The Mac n cheese also mushy a bit but tasted better than it looked. I love great BBQ so I like Central BBQ but may have caught them on a bad day. I ordered wings and two dry slabs of ribs. When my family and I finally decided to eat the ribs on Monday, they were disgusting. They had seasoning caked all on them, and they were overly salty. We wiped off the caked-on seasoning and tried to eat around the saltiness. I was praying the 2nd slab was not the same. When I opened them on 5/27 to see, they were the same. I was trying to avoid calling because I just didn't feel like being bothered. But I called. I left a message for the manager to return my call that morning because "he is in the middle of an interview." So I called back that afternoon and was transferred to Ethan. I explained the situation to him. As I was speaking, he kept making the noise un-huh. So, I stopped talking and asked him what it meant aside from it just being rude as hell. He went on to explain that they missed a step and did not rub in the seasoning and shake it off. I don't care. It's an internal quality issue that should be handled with the prep and cook staff. Not me. He asked if I had my receipt and, in a tone that suggested he was doing me a favor, advised me that he would replace the slab. No apologies for the inconvenience or anything.   After my long workday, I went all the way downtown to get the slab replaced. In person, Ethan is just as rude. I asked if he was going to replace both slabs. He could clearly see the quality was trash. He said no and that he would only replace one. Then went on to offer me sides and a slice of cake. No, thank you. I can afford sides and cake just like I did those trash slabs of ribs. Those slabs of ribs cost $62.40 before taxes. With taxes probably being another 5 or 6 dollars. Your mistakes and poor quality should not cost me. He had a young lady bring the replacement slab back out to me. She didn't say thank you or anything. One thing I know is that a white man or woman patronizing your business would not have been treated this way. As a result, moving forward I will spend my Black woman dollars elsewhere on barbeque and smoked chicken wings. Also, I removed you all from my company's approved catering list where we spend a nice amount with you all yearly. Tell Ethan, thanks for helping me see the light and not spend money where I'm not respected and where my customer experience isn't valued.
