This is the original location I believe. It may not look totally the same as it did 20 years ago, but the vibe it entirely the same. The menu hasn't changed much either-- a little slice of Americana. Burgers, sandwiches, pork chops, meatloaf, ribs, and salads as big as your head! Moreover, you can't go wrong with any of them. But, my personal favorite is the Chinese chicken salad-- rarely I have salads served completely tossed where the chicken is uniformly distributed, but here, there's chicken in almost every bite. It's got a light vinegrette with peanut sauce drizzled on top. But, like I said, you can't go wrong at this place. Enjoy! read more

Wow......I mean Wow not in a good way what a complete disappointment. Ordered takeout a Cesar Salad with chicken and a Turkey Burger and they were both dreadful. How do you mess up a simple CS, these people did it. It had a funny taste like the lettuce wasn't fresh. The cheese was not fresh and the chicken was tough, trash. The TB was undercooked and it was tasteless. The fries tasted like they were cooked last week. Last Sunday night I stopped by to have my favorite quesadillas, which are normally superb. Unfortunately this time they were served with spoiled sour cream. After a couple of bites I knew something was wrong, and when I smelled the remaining sour cream, I almost vomited. I flagged down the waiter who took a sniff and agreed it smelled bad, but claimed the kitchen folks were always diligent. I've had some burgers in my life but THIS didn't make any sense!!! My Uber driver said "the salad is good but the burgers aren't" I'm about to tell UBER she tried to harass me or something because she couldn't have been WRONGER!!! Hands down, this location... the original, is my favorite Barnaby's! The food is great and the staff is super friendly. We enjoyed chatting with different servers there and even the customers kept it interesting. I had the buffalo burger and it was great! Cooked perfectly and finished off with fries, it was a great day to blow up cheat day. Parking was super easy, as they have their own lot. read more

When you're hungry and thirsty and craving something healthy, filling, and crunchy- get a salad at Barnaby's! Will totally hit the spot. Their "small" salads are HUGE. Pictured is a small Petaluma salad (minus tortilla chips and sour cream) with chicken added. So fresh! The chicken is actually pretty moist inside, unlike normal grilled chicken. Comes with a big side of guacamole and chipotle ranch- both tasty and enough to save half for later. Really- you could split the small salad and have two filling salads. Great value! Boyfriend got the albacore sandwich- didn't look that great to me- tuna salad sandwiches always remind me of sad box lunches but he loves it ‍ comes with house made chips. Recommend! read more

Barnaby's is always a solid choice for any meal. I usually go for dinner, but their breakfast is great also. Their menu is kind of all over the place- salads, burgers, tortas, meatloaf, lasagna... It keeps going. But everything I've tried is great! And yes, the prices look high... But the portions are massive, so you'll be able to make a couple meals out of it. My favorite entrees are the Chicken Fattoush Salad, Chicken Mill Valley, Mushroom Swiss Burger, and Club Sandwich. But seriously, everything I've tried is really good. They also have a pretty good drink selection for great prices. You can get a whole bottle of their house wine for $10! If you want something better, most are in the $25 range, so still very reasonable. They also have good craft beer options, but unfortunately no drafts. The service is also always great. I could totally see me and the menu not getting along at first, but then finding something in it that sparked an interest. Then I could see a montage of me having a good time with my chicken quesadilla... But then I could see myself running through the rain to embrace the blue cheese waffle fries....and my tears could not be masked by the raindrops that slowly but surely melted all the blue cheese until it ran down a drain in a milky white spiral. My ex & I was a little hungry so we decided to drive to Barnaby's cafe for some comfort food. The place wasn't packed at all it was only one other guest dining in (thank God). I decided to order the Grill Salmon filet, and may I tell you I regret getting it. Let's start with the salmon, it was cook to perfection but had no taste to it, like damn did they even added at least salt & pepper to it. The rice was out of line, absolutely zero taste and I just hated that they put cranberries with the rice; it doesn't complement anything. The broccoli looked like a mini Tree, I don't know if that's how they want it or they were too lazy to cut it off. The only thing I enjoyed was my ex chips that came with his meal, it was hot and crunchy (came right out the fryer). Overall I was not feeling my meal but the customer service was awesome , I will give this place another try and next time I'll order something else, hopefully I can change my rating because I hate giving places less than a 3 star. read more

The restaurant itself is small and the only thing bigger than the portions are the flavors of the dishes and the personalities of the hospitality/service crew. My favorite dishes are the chicken La Jolla, the waffle fries with blue cheese fondue and bacon bits, and the chicken Lebanese fattoush salad. The chicken La Jolla is a healthy option which is a flame grilled chicken breast marinated in slap yo momma goodness, topped with grilled ancho Chile, ancho pesto, cheese and pico- black beans and rice as a side. Heavenly- Everything from the campy decor, location and tasty menu options are what make this hole in the wall spot a local fave. And if you are too early for lunch- Baby Barnaby's is just across the patio with simple, tasty and affordable breakfast options. I have been going to this place for over 20 years and it never gets old. One of the best people watching spots in the neighborhood. The spot is tucked amongst the LGBTQ+ nightlife hotspots- so Weekends can get pretty crowded- but luckily they have a private parking lot so there is usually plenty of room. I have been a customer of Barnaby's from when it originally opened. I have gone there regularly almost weekly for many, many years. It was always extremely reliably good food at a fair price. I was there last night and decided it no longer is reliably good food or at fair price. In fact, the last several meals I have had there were just not enjoyable at all. Last night the loaded mash potatoes had been put under the heat lamp or in oven so long that the cheese was extremely hard, parts of it melted onto the plate with a hard surface to the point of being very close to burned to the point of being inedible. The bacon was such large tough chunks they tasted only of fake smoke and salt and were very difficult to eat. They were not at all crisp. I asked for my hot dog to be covered in lots of sauteed onions, as I have had it many times, with no bun, and for brown mustard and sweet relish. The onions were not caramelized as they used to always be yet they were very greasy and the little cups of mustard and relish were not full enough to actually cover the hot dog. Two visits ago I ordered the Monday special of chicken fried steak. It was also inedible because it was so tough it was difficult to chew. The gravy had no flavor and the batter also had no flavor. Last night the waiter reminded me that they had cfs and I told him the last time I had it I found it the worst meal that I had ever had there. He said he knows it is not good and he does not eat it. Why would a waiter recommend or even mention a dish that is not on menu when he does not eat it himself. Apparently not many people are eating it anymore as it used to be something that regularly sold out pretty early. I was there after 8 pm and they had some available. The prices have also shot up pretty dramatically. It seems like in the last seven or eight months the prices have been regularly creeping up. A hot dog and ice tea with a scoop of mash potatoes was $21 plus a tip. While the waiter is a very nice guy, I cannot say service was particularly good to justify leaving him the five dollar tip I did but I did. Probably the last time I go there. read more

This place looks so cool on the inside!! Absolutely cute with pups all over the decoration. The staff was super friendly as well and they even gave us some recommendations. We had the guac and chips to start and it was fresh! The only thing was that the chips were really salty, but we just wiped it off and ate them. We got a cheeseburger with bacon and a tuna sandwich. Both were really fresh and so tasty! The burger patty was hot and juicy and the taste was really great. The lettuce, tomatoes, and purple onion tied everything together on the burger. Definitely try it!! The tuna sandwich was also really tasty and fresh. At the end I had their cookies and although I wish it would have been warm, it was really tasty!! I hadn't had Barnaby's in a long time and was in the neighborhood today so I decided to call in an order to go... both sandwiches were very delicious (the clubhouse and the tuna) . Better than I remember! Also the staff was so pleasant! Anna took my order over the phone and was very accommodating. The gentleman that rang me up was also very nice letting me order a big slice of the rainbow cake at the last second... it just looked so good! Thank you Barnaby's for the great meal! Pros: -Cool, casual restaurant (almost diner vibe) that you would expect to see in Austin -The owner obviously loves his childhood sheep dog, Barnaby, and as a dog lover myself I can appreciate the sentiment of naming his restaurant after his "best pal" -Service was very friendly, lots of seating -Menu had many great options -PORTIONS ARE HUGE but PRICES ARE GREAT -I had a $9 cheeseburger that came with waffle fries. The burger was almost an inch thick, cooked medium well (by my preference) and it was juicy and flavorful. The bun was also soft yet firm enough to hold the lettuce, tomatos, onions, etc. My burger was so big I ate half and took the rest home for a second meal. -My friends ordered salads and they were HUGE also enough for 1 or 2 leftover meals at home. -They also serve beer and wine Cons: -I really can't think of any. Great place for me and my girlfriend to recover from our long flight. Service was great and our breakfast plates we got were good portioned and worth the price. Their coffee was freshly brewed and was nice and strong pick me up. My girlfriend got the scrambled Green Eggs which came with sausage and potatoes and paired it with orange juice which was freshly squeezed. I got their country fried steak covered in gravy and it was just the greatest thing to bite into to. It came with eggs and potatoes. I'll admit the menu seems a little confused with Mexican, burger, meatloaf, chicken, salad, etc. But everything I've tried had been amazing. Don't get scared off by the prices, the portion sizes are massive so you get your money worth. I recommend the Chicken Mill Valley, burgers, club, and salads (they're massive salads... Reminds me the of Seinfeld "big salad") Drink (4.5/5): Decent drink options with both wine and beer options. No draft, and wine selection is very limited. Service (5/5): Every time I've been the staff has been super welcoming and attentive. Keep in mind it gets busy, and it's a small kitchen. Might be a little wait for the food.
