Three stars is generous. With all the businesses closing and coming and going in Westwood Village, I believe Barney's is still here because they close at midnight (few options for the college crowd) and for the reasonable prices. My main complaint is not getting what we ordered combined with an indifferent server who made subpar effort. My friend's "protein style" burger came on a bun, my Turkey Melt was missing avocado and our sides were on the wrong plates. The server just went back to the kitchen to fix our orders. You don't have to apologize if the cooking staff made the errors but at least pretend you care for a better tip. My sandwich was fine, nothing memorable but the onion rings were amazing! Very crunchy, thick but light batter. The server told me fries or rings came with the sandwich but I got charged an extra buck for the onion rings. For about $20 total, good thing it was a big serving. My friends ate their burger and nacho plate. The nachos plate is huge, can easily satisfy a hungry appetite as an entree. My friend's Bloody Mary was ok, too watery. They have a good variety of cocktails and drinks. We also were one of few customers there during midafternoon and waited a while for our food. We also had to ask our server for the bill. The interior is nostalgic- a lot of collages of 80s/90s music and pop culture. License plates on the ceilings and you can't miss the LP wall heading down to the bathrooms. The bathrooms are clean and there's an upper level which overlooks the ground floor but it was closed during the day. The booths are comfortable and their own television showing a sports game. A tv near us also played MTV videos, remember them? I want to like this place more than I do. I like the number of TVs, especially upstairs. The service is friendly and the outdoor seating is nice. The chili is good and they're happy hour specials are great. But every draft beverage has a problematic taste. It may be that the lines aren't cleaned regularly... Except I get this taste every single drink I have there. It happened a week ago with two beers (more the smog city little bo plls and the Belgian than the Modelo, but still present). It happened yesterday with the pils and a cider. So maybe it is the glassware isn't getting cleaned correctly? Or they are using a detergent that doesn't rinse off in whatever they're using to rinse the glasses? This has been a problem at this location for years. Had the BEST time at Barney's! We were having a hard time deciding what we wanted to eat so late at night and then it clicked- Barney's has everything. It was perfectly lively on a Thursday night. Karaoke and all the vibes. We sat on the patio to be able to chat because it was a bit too loud inside. There were some heaters on so it was comfy. Our waitress was the coolest!! She had us laughing and gave some great recs. We ended up having the veggie chilli cheese fries (MY BARNEY'S OBSESSION), enchiladas (beyond meat and veggies avail as fillings for my fellow veggies), and the churro waffle for dessert. The irony of Westwood is the boarded up empty desert of shops and restaurants the past 2 decades. That makes little sense being connected to the gorgeous and thriving and famous UCLA campus in the hills by Bel Air. This restaurant remains stubbornly old guard now that Stan's, Hamburger Hamlet, Chart House, Sak's Japanese are just Westwood memories. It's in the heart of a near century old famous movie premiere block. The pepperoni mushroom calzone was sublime - with fresh dough made on sight. The waitress said such food is why she "hadn't seen her feet since she started working" there. During live Bruin games on TV, the place is a riot of beers and cheering. It's been years since I was last at a Barney's but in Santa Monica. This visit, it was lunch time in Westwood Village. It's looked closed as the patio was quiet. We noticed the tv on and the open sign. Walked in and at the hostess counter it said seat yourself. Stood there for a minute or so just to get someone's attention that we were inside. No one noticed so we just went outside to the patio hoping someone saw us walking out there. After a few minutes, went back inside to actually try to speak to someone. Finally someone came walking from the back. Even though there was someone at the bar when we walked in and I'm sure they saw us standing there. Service was somewhat whatever when we go there. Afterwards, it did get better. The waitress was friendly as well as the gentleman that brought us out some water. After ordering, food didn't take long to arrive. It a sports bar restaurant vibe. Same goes for the food. We had the tuna melt with onion rings. Extra free added to that. As well as the loaded fries with pastrami. Food wasn't bad and actually filling. I did want a certain drink but the two they had wasn't available. Service was a little slow when we walked in even though it was lunch time. It's wasn't that busy inside. Came here with some co-residents after work for a casual night of food, drinks, and catching up. It's been about five years since I last came here during med school, and honestly, not much has changed -- still the same chaotic charm with license plates and random decor covering every inch of the place. Nothing really makes sense, but that's kind of the point. Service was excellent. I didn't catch our server's name, but he handled our group of 15+ like a pro -- quick with drinks, food came out right, and he never missed a beat. I ordered the Nashville Chicken Sandwich, which wasn't super spicy but still solid -- juicy, well-seasoned, and sauced just right. The fries were crispy and addictive. We also got pickle back shots for fun and a round of Brother Thelonious, a Belgian-style beer that hit the spot. I always enjoy coming here since it is usually an entertaining and fun time. Whether it is coming to enjoy the tasty food while watching many sporting events on the TVs or partaking in the weekly trivia they have, this place is pretty happening! The burrito and wings are so delicious! I usually get ranch to mix it up with the abundance of bites. The staff is always so kind and friendly. They also make great recommendations that always hit the spot. You can park up front on the street, but it is definitely busier when they have Trivia days. The bathrooms are in the back and the décor throughout the place is amazing. I love the tables that have pop culture photos that spice up the furniture. We visited for trivia night. Although it was busy, it wasn't too hard to find a table. The bouncer was funny and our server was nice and was easy to hold a conversation with. The mc, Dan, was very enthusiastic and had an easy humor that made the night go smoothly. There was a requirement of having to at least spend $15 per person, which wasn't too hard because each cocktail costed around $13-14. I ordered two "boo bears" which had a vodka base and strawberry syrup, and it was very good. People at the table enjoyed Pomonas and strawberry margaritas as well. The carne Asada fries were also a great dish to share, but leaned on the smaller size for its price. The night was fun and organized! This Barney's is much bigger and brighter than the Hollywood location. It's multiple levels with a lot if tvs to watch games and such. All the food is still solid though. People rave about their burgers for some reason but my favorite is the classic chili! Smothered in cheese! Drool! Add a few splashes of Tabasco (I know ... gross but Tabasco is actually really good with chili for some reason) it's like made for it! They have a s'mores set up that you can order which I just had to try because what smores without a grill?! It's cute to make but probably a one time order just for the experience. It's been years since the last time we were at Barney's. So we decided to give this location a try while out on a Saturday afternoon. For a Saturday afternoon its was not to busy, which was great nice we could sit anywhere we like, which was the outside patio area. It was a little dusty but is expected as you are outside. Our waitress was very kind. Took our appetizer and drink order right away. Unfortunately that's when it started to go down hill. I never got my beer, because apparently they were out of Guinness. My waitress was kind enough to give me what they have left which was very kind of her. I asked a soda and that never came and neither did my husband second beer. We started with the Irish Nachos which were delicious! Highly recommend. I had the BLAT sandwich with fries which was good. My husband had the Juicy Lucy Bacon BBQ Burger and that was a winner! We came here on a Sunday afternoon after visiting the Pierce Bros. Westwood Cemetery. It was a warm, sunny day and we were looking for a place to go to for some food and drinks. I opened up my Yelp app and found Barney's on a nice shaded street in the heart of the village. We've been to many of the Barney's locations over the years and always had a good experience. The gals working there were all wonderful greeting us and seating us the moment we arrived. Haley our server was friendly and efficient and made our meal quite pleasant. We ordered a small pan pizza and a breakfast burrito to share. The pizza was a perfect size for one or two people and the burrito was enormous! Actually brought home a few slices of the pizza for the following day. We had Bloody Mary's which were well made, nicely garnished and delicious. They were also only $5 on special! We chose to sit outside on a shaded patio with comfortable seating and good music playing at a reasonable level to allow conversation. I really liked the location and the space. 5 stars for the staff, 5 stars for the cocktails, 4 stars for the food and 5 stars for the overall experience. When you're in town for work and want to venture somewhere else that is not the hotel bar, this is one of the few places that remains open till 1 or 2am on a given day. I think that's more than what you can ask for. It's nothing otherworldly, but sometimes you want to hop into a bar late night and grab a beer. This fits the bill. Granted, I've not (and don't plan to) grab food anytime soon or visit this place during the daytime (due to work), so my review is mostly limited. The food here was not all that great. Perhaps i ordered the wrong items. Maybe i should have gone with the buffalo wings. Asada was Grade C meat, strung together worse than any Alberto's fast food chain could create. The place was overly loud, with random trivia games being blasted by some host over a loud speaker. A bunch of drunk college kids were being loud and obnoxious, almost like it was their first time drinking. The cocktails were watered down and almost flavorless. Some of the items on the beer menu are not available upstairs, you have to order it downstairs. It's just a really disorganized place with the ambiance of a mediocre sports bar. The food came out fast, and the service was ok at best. The highlight of this place is the bathroom that you have to take an elevator to get to. It's decorated with artists, musicians, and celebrities on the walls. It's probably the only cool thing about this place. I would not recommend this place or ever show up again. Barney's is a staple of Westwood/UCLA, and the establishment itself is a staple of LA. I am a Barney's fan. I love the unique vibe, spunky decor, and sense of community it provides. I've played trivia several times (had to go on a one-year hiatus when they made Wednesday trivia 21+... boo!) and have seen many March Madness games throughout the years. I think the food is solid. I've had the chips&guac which is always reliable. I think the s'mores roasting is fun and a great deal. The vodka penne pasta was really good, as was my lemon drop drink. The service is kind of spotty. I've had some kind bartenders and some bad ones. Once, an employee kicked me off of my table at 11AM to "save space for larger parties," and she literally took my spot to watch the March Madness game (no larger groups showed up... the place was empty). Another time, I was about to pay my bill and leave the restaurant during trivia when the bartender pointed at my friend across the bar and said we had to have a minimum of $40 to spend before we could leave. Would've been nice to know before! We had to order sliders to-go to meet this requirement and wait an extra 15 minutes when I had somewhere to be. I had been to trivia nights countless times before (even the week prior!), and that rule has never been enforced. This is my second time visiting this restaurant. As soon as you walk in the door, there's a sign that says seat yourself. The vibe is very relaxed and chill. My sister ordered the turkey melt and paid an extra $3.75 for a cup of onion soup. She had this last time and she loved it. This was her second time having it and she still loves it. I paid a dollar extra to get steak fries. They were extra extra crispy which my sister likes, but I don't. It was happy hour so I was able to get a glass of wine for seven dollars. I've been coming to Barney's for almost 2 years now and it is such an iconic spot for trivia, karaoke, and overall vibes. Trivia is every Tuesday (themed trivia on Wednesdays), and there's always a packed crowd so I always try to make a reservation for my group to avoid waiting in line. Karaoke on Thursday is also really fun if you come with a good group. My usual order is: a pitcher of Cosmic Crisp cider to share, the seasoned fries with Barney's ranch, and usually another appetizer or a dessert. My favorites off the insanely long menu include the Irish nachos, regular nachos, fried pickles, soft pretzel sticks, buffalo wings, s'mores, and chocolate lava cake. Barney's really has it all, it's definitely your typical sports bar food, which is to say pretty greasy, but you're going to a college bar, not Sweetgreen. They also have some pretty tasty cocktails (the best is "In The Groove") but the Cosmic Crisp cider is just a classic. Barney's is a great place to bring a large group to celebrate a birthday or other special occasion, and it's been a go to spot for me and my friends even on a non eventful Tuesday. I want to love this place, but it's always just ok. Love the decor and vibe, but the service just isn't great. It wasn't busy on my most recent visit - early Saturday afternoon. The bartender just walked over and kind of looked at us. He didn't say hello or anything. I first asked for my sandwich with the turkey chili. He told me they don't have that anymore, but it was still listed on the menu. I said the classic was fine. He never really checked on us after that. We had to wave him down to get more drinks and then the check. It seemed like others sitting there had a similar experience. Food is decent, location is great, and they have some good specials. Maybe they are just used to college kids coming in and not tipping or something, so service isn't important. But maybe it's worth a stop and hopefully others get a better server/bartender. read more

I walked in trying to figure out if they were dog friendly but didn't see any staff and no one came up to me. So i seated myself in the patio and luckily it is dog friendly! So much so one of the girls who worked there came out to greet our pup and asked to give him a treat, which he loved. We sat at a table that was dirty but our server, Seth, took our drink order and came back to wipe it down right away. He was super attentive while we were there and if I ever went back, I'd hope to be in his section again because his customer service is on point! This location is in the center of a college town and you definitely feel like you're in college. The outdoor area was beaten up and dirty - trash and a fork under the table. They have a very heavy bar food menu but serve breakfast all day. Awful. We had to request a server to come to our table. After 20 mins someone stood next to our table looking at us, no greeting. So we gave our order assuming that was what he'd come for. After another 20 minutes the fountain drinks we'd ordered arrived. The tables around us were served and we waited, and waited. The table that had more people and arrived after us got served and we waited. Our food finally arrived, Luke warm. The Philly cheese steak was suspiciously missing any trace of steak and the bread was a rock on the end meaning it was microwaved. The pizza was pretty flavorless and undercooked. After we finished, our mute server pulled out the signature pad to ensure you can't give the tip they deserved as they stand there watching you. This was such a fun bar to come to on the weekend! Came with a group of friends and got seated at a booth right away. Staff were super friendly and got our orders in and out right away. I ordered a mango margarita and it was so good- could barely taste the alcohol (but felt it for sure LOL). We also shared mozzarella sticks and their fried pickles- both crispy and delicious! There are two floors (though the upstairs wasn't open when I was there) and a heated patio outdoors, so ample space for parties. Decor was so fun as well, full of music references and colorful lights. My only qualm was how difficult parking was, but there are 90 minute street parking spots if you get lucky. Met some friends here to catch up and ended up spending hours on the patio and had a really nice afternoon. It's in the heart of Westwood so parking is difficult but there is a garage nearby that was easily accessible. We got a tomato soup and tuna melt and it was ok but I've had better. Never been to this Barney's Beanery before. It was crowded on a sports Sunday (also a big 5K at UCLA). We did get a booth. Our server was friendly, and attentive. Nice that there are tvs all over for the sports. The food wasn't great. I had a hamburger (didn't ask how I wanted it) that was overcooked and not that big of a patty. Rather blah. Chili was good, but salad was bagged salad with some cucumbers added. I prefer a real salad. My friends liked their meals (hamburger, omelet) so I should have stuck with the breakfast options. Your typical run of the mill bar in a college town - filled with undergrads, a bit noisy with the TV games and music and convos going, sticky floors, and cheap beers and bar bites. It can definitely get a bit crowded in here, especially on thirsty Thursday and the weekend or on game days.
