Taste of Siberia - Inside of the Hawaiian style brat in a blanket

Taste of Siberia

My husband scoffed as we walked by this place. "There's no way that someone can make Siberian food…read morein the middle of Montana." I knew better. If a Siberian food truck was here, it was true Siberian food. So we stopped. A wonderful woman and her mother run this little spot. We wanted to get a range of things from the menu so my husband got the Pelmeni, the jalapeño cheddar brat in a blanket, and a jam pirozhki. I got the cabbage pirozhki, a Hawaiian style brat in a blanket, and a jam pirozhki. I didn't get to try his jalapeño brat, which I feel speaks volumes. The only reason he let me eat the other half of his pelmeni was because I wasn't feeling good and he wanted me to have the broth. It was JUST the right amount of dill, and the beef was tender and delicious. I'm a fan of dill, and whether you're supposed to or not, I drank that broth. lol She gave me mustard for my Hawaiian brat, and it was SO GOOD. You could see the mozzarella oozing out of the brat. It had an amazing and cheesy flavor. The pastry dough surrounding it was indescribable. It was flaky and had a buttery taste, a crust on the outside, soft and yummy on the inside. The cabbage pirozhki had phenomenal flavor as well, and she gave me some hot sauce to pair it with. It honestly brought out all the flavors of the veggies, which I loved. I had to wait a bit for my jam pirozhki (let these cool, they're HOT!!!) and while messy, this was the perfect dessert to end my meal. We both agreed we'll stop again the next time we drive through. Simply delicious!!!

Unexpected good eats in Big Timber. Be sure to get the dumplings. Great cabbage roll…read more Not open Tuesday and Wednesday.

Most legit Memphis BBQ I ever did have! ...not that I know what that is prior to this, but I know…read moredelicious when I taste it. Anybody passing through should come here! Run by the sweetest and friendliest couple we've met on our journey to the rockies, the Silver Gate BBQ is a special spot because it's *not* a fancy sit down restaurant with permanent furniture. It's not even a quaint cafe out in the wilderness. What it is is two genuine folks, oozing with love for their food and home, cooking up a storm in a bear-proof stall that's in their front yard with lawn chairs as seating on the side...and it's one of the most memorable things we encountered on the trip. Going by the google maps location got us to where they're situated; you'll likely pass by them if you're driving in/out of Silvergate anyway, but as you're coming out it's right at the edge of town before you hit all the other buildings on the left. Just look for that bright yellow trailer! The husband gave us some grand advice to take a look at the Beartooth Highway since we were out in this direction, which given how scenic that drive is I can absolutely vouch for that it was a great decision to embark on. Not something you'd get coming from all the other food spots we've been to, but it's just generally wholesome hearing about the area from the couple here that they both know so well. In terms of food offerings the BBQ is legit good, with only one kind of BBQ sauce that I swear beats out most places I've been to anywhere, let alone just Yellowstone. Excellently balanced sweetness, heat, and acidity. We ordered from them several times since it was just such a delight. ==Triple Delight - 5/5 Layered up pulled pork, BBQ sauce, baked beans, with slaw and some texas toast on the side. It was pretty damn amazing, and I don't say that lightly. The slaw was a lovely fresh mince, diced quite finely with a lightly sweetened touch. The bean/sauce/pork combo was decadent goodness and the toast was perfectly toasted with just enough butter. ==Elk Brat - 5/5 Simple but glorious, spiced and seasoned heavily but not as heavy on the gaminess as I expected. Recommended to dip in with some BBQ sauce on the side and it was perfect just with that. Since they knew we were splitting it up they even cut up the brat for us and brought it out really fast to keep it piping hot. I'm pretty sure we got an additional Keto Bison Plate, but I forgot to take a picture of it since we were on the move and it was just too easy to pile into the deliciousness. We also bought some huckleberry preserves I noticed didn't have any corn syrup in it; turns out they're just selling it at cost since they know the dude who makes it and they like it! Did I mention how sweet they are yet?

My kids each got a burrito and I got the huckleberry French toast. Everything was great! They have really good local sodas for purchase too. The second time, we stopped here on our way out of town and dined in. They were busier and make everything to order, so the food actually took a while. My youngest and I ordered a huckleberry matcha as well. Those come out first, but unfortunately a lot of the ice melted and the drink looked gray in color instead of the pretty differentiation between the matcha and the huckleberry. It tasted okay, slightly watered down. My kids got the breakfast plate and I got the avocado toast and had them add the tomato and everything but the bagel seasoning. It was probably the best avocado toast I've ever had in my life! Incredible flavor! We had fun chatting with some other visitors while we were there. A very cute and homey place with seating inside and outside. They also sell local items like honey and photography.

We tried the Cowboy and Explorer. The first had roast beef, smoked bacon, cheese, sour cream, BBQ, and more! It was soo good, especially since the beef was perfect. The Explorer had sweet corn, jalapeno, a buttercream sauce, and seasoning. It sounds plain, but it really wasn't! Sometimes potatoes can be under seasoned or still hard (if undercooked), but it was perfect! I'm extremely curious about their other options too. Some had chicken, buffalo sauce, ranch sauce, and/or veggies. Most were about 16-17$, but the serving size was decent. The staff was extremely friendly and answered my questions. They're currently parked for the summer and are open from 11:30-8 PM (closed Sunday and Monday). I'm going to save this spot for when I come back into town. I hope they get more visitors!
