During the lockdown we tried Barones the first time, ordered a pizza takeout and it was soggy and undercooked but figured it was it was just a takeout mishap. The reviews for this place are good so we tried a dine in. It was shockingly worse. I have never paid so much for a terrible meal. We tried 2 dishes and they were both tasteless and mushy. The 2 dishes were in the high$20 each for plates of just noodles and sauce. No bread, no soup or salad, only thing they offered was the same Parmesan cheese that you get with a dominos pizza. We tried Barone's last night for the first time, after passing many times. We loved the old school decor, and found the service to he very good. We ordered the "Famous Stuffed Mushrooms " to start. They were awful. The seafood filling did not taste fresh, and the mushrooms were almost raw. My husband ordered a steak and baked potato, which he was happy with. I ordered the eggplant parmesan with a side of fettuccine in marinara sauce. The eggplant was sliced much too thickly so was not cooked all the way through. The marinara sauce covering the eggplant and the fettuccine was simply flavorless, no seasoning or herbs. The fettuccine tasted as though it had been cooked hours earlier and had been sitting in a tray. It was dried out and tough. The dinner salad and garlic toast were good. Our server was efficient and very nice. For some reason they charge $6 for valet parking. All in all we were very disappointed. The restaurant has been in existence since 1945 so I can only imagine that the decline in the quality of food is recent. I hope the management will read this review and improve the food they are serving. read more

I've been here 3-4x in the past year. I LOVE THEIR PIZZA!!! Just recently ordered other items off their menu: Ravioli with meat sauce: it was okay. Lasagna with meat sauce: LOOKED DELICIOUS AND IT WAS SOOOO GOOD! Chicken Fettuccine: VERY GOOD. Garlic Bread was very good too!! We didn't try desserts this time around. We brought our own cake and cheesecake (birthday). But next time we will. Valet is $4.50. Bummer. But it's worth it. Especially when you have kids and itis. Haha. read more

My two boys took me there for Father's Day, It was not very busy and the waitress was very kind. However it took 40 minutes for us to receive our food, the pizza was burnt and so was the chicken Alfredo. The waitress apologized profusely, she offered to have more food cook for us however we had already waited 40 minutes. I asked for the bill and she stated that it was on the house. I went to make a complaint but there were no managers working until 4pm so I left my name and telephone number for someone to call me back which I never received a call. This place used to be so nice I have eaten there on many many occasions. It no longer appears as though Service nor good food is a top priority for this restaurant. So very sad read more

Visit: 12/22/2017 I'm kinda surprised by previous reviews. Maybe I just went on a night when they were on point because I felt that this place was amazing! It was my First time there and was definitely a night to remember. The live band was my favorite part. The food was great. We ordered the lasagna and and the Alfredo. Service was great. Wine (moscato) was delicious! By far one of my new favorite places! Thank you! My only criticism is the lack of parking and that the price is not just "$$". First off thank you food network for your review on this place! I swear flipping thru the channels and landing on barone's cheese lasagna had me sold! We came here ready to try there famous cheese lasagna and pizza. The customer service here is off the top amazing! The waiters are super attentive even when it is busy. This I appreciated. The food also comes out pretty quickly which was another plus. As soon as we tried the two items we came here for we fell in love. The lasagna was ozzing cheesy goodness! And the pizza has just amount of crunch and topping to make it amazing. It was a bit of a drive for us but well worth it. We will be back! read more

Amazing lasagna! Consider getting it "a la parmigiana," which basically means they put a massive slice of parmesan on top of the entire thing - really adds to the flavor. The interior is very classy - great for dates. It's kind of a funny vibe - it looks like one of those old parlors that should be filled with smoke with a hit being discussed in one of the booths, but I guess California's smoking ban forces them to serve delicious food instead. This place IS open for business as of Apr 29 2009, in Van Nuys, on the corner of Woodman and Oxnard. They say Valley Glen on the site, probably just to avoid the name Van Nuys. read more

If Yelp had half stars Barone's would get a 3 1/2. The pizza is usually quite good and has a great sauce. The bartender is a complete jerk and has a serious poor attitude ( you would think the management would catch on to this eventually) . The service is usually descent but they can get behind on refills and checking in if you need anything. I have also had the Chicken Parmigiana and it is OK but not great. I took my 92 year old Sicilian dad to Barone's today for his birthday, and boy, did we mangia! It was the first time we had been there, but I can say with certainty it definitely won't be the last!! We loved the nostalgic, retro feel of the dining room and the hostess, wait staff and servers were super-nice, all in all molto bene!! The meat sauce is a meat lovers dream and my cheese ravioli was tender and delicious- not doughy at all. We ended our meal sharing a slice of their delicious cheesecake, which the awesome staff delivered with a birthday candle and a cheerful happy birthday song. They truly did make my dad's day very happy, and I thank you all for the kindness. We felt like part of the Barone's family, even though we were first timers! Last, but definitely not least, I ordered a partially cooked pizza to heat at home for dinner and it was one of the best ever! They don't skimp on the toppings or the cheese- It was a rectangle of ooey gooey goodness loaded with pepperoni, sausage and mushroom with an extra helping of yum! As a single man I have been around the LA area to many restaurants and clubs over the years. Recently I received an e mail naming restaurants in the LA area that are providing curbside / pick up food during the covid 19 crisis, Barone's was mentioned. I punched in Barone's and there was the usual information etc. I then noticed reviews most were 5 star. Also there were 1 star. Some of the 1 star shocked me because I have been to Barone's many times and I have never had an issue with the service or the food. I then spoke to a couple of friends that frequent Barone's and they never experienced bad service or food. Another complaint was the atmosphere. The restaurant is decorated with red booths, fantastic / romantic lighting. ( hey guys if you are trying to create a relationship with a lady try this restaurant ) Yes depending on what lighting atmosphere they are presenting it is sometimes dark but it makes for such a great romantic atmosphere you have to see it to appreciate it. Another complaint was waiting for a booth or service. whenever I made a reservation for a week end ( evening ) Sometimes I had to wait for a booth in the area that I wanted to be seated in maybe as much as 20 minutes which is to be expected in a busy restaurant on a week end. That is typical of this type restaurant in the LA area. The customers at the bar area were friendly and the entertainment and music was very enjoyable. People were dancing and having a great time. This restaurant is a take back to the 60's/70' atmosphere and entertainment. I noticed that some people complained about the dated atmosphere etc. My guess is that they were probably in their 20'. Well I have been to some of the local clubs / restaurants and witnessed the way that they dance eg; the female turns her back to her male dance partner and gyrates her rear end and the male then proceeds to dance with her rear end. I can understand if that is the type of entertainment and dancing they are looking for then Barone's is not for them. The owner Tom greets and talks to the customers and makes them feel welcome and special. AND I have never had an issue with their pizza you gotta try it. I usually stop by on the weekend. I enjoy sitting in the bar area. The bartenders and staff are attentive. The food is flavorful and well prepared. Love the meat and cheese platter. The sausage and cheese pizza has a nice mix of flavors. Good enough to order another small one for breakfast, before I leave. The quality of the sound from the "live band" was the best I've heard in a long time and volume level was perfect. I believe that night "The Rick Whitfield Band" was playing. drove an hour to check this place out and when we pulled up and saw the old signs and building i knew it had potential. Walk in and has that great old feeling, loved the inside of this place and the feel. Carlos was waiting on us and he was great and loved hearing his stories. We ordered the combo pizza and meatball lasagna. My wife doesnt like lasagna because of the ricotta and never orders it but we decided to share both dishes and she loved the lasagna with the meatball. The lasagna is one of the best ive had if not the best. the pizza was great also, the meat is piled on and tasted fresh and great. only complaint on that would be it was a little soggy and didnt hold to the crust but would order both again, both are great read more

Been coming to this restaurant for over 50 years. Always one of my "go-to's" when it came decent quality "down home" Italian Food. The waiters and waitresses are still the nicest in town and the decor still old school friendly with the red booths and old school charm. Unfortunately, their food had taken a major dive, especially over the last few years. Their pasta sauces have gotten bland and tasteless. They over cheese EVERYTHING and go way overboard with the salad dressing. Their garlic bread, which used to be the best in the city, has somehow lost it's incredible flavor and their meats are always overcooked. It's not the absolute worst Italian restaurant in the city, but with all the fantastic Italian restaurants to choose from in the Valley, don't waste your time, and money on what "used to be" an excellent restaurant! read more

Great food, great service! I had dinner here with a group of people, and we ordered pizzas,chicken parm, fettucini, salads. Everything was fantastic. Their salad is delicious. I'd go back just for their house salad. I had guessed on a whim before even looking at the Yelp reviews that Fast Times At Ridgemont High was filmed here (the date night dinner scene). After 30 years, I'm done with Barone's ! It shouldn't take 35 minutes after the designated pick-up time for it a to-go order to be ready! Actually To-Go Orders aren't ever ready when they tell you (unless you have 'an inside track,' see below) because they have kept a system in place all these years where they don't prepare certain parts of your order until after you arrive!!! Ludicrous!!!! The owner's daughter, Laura, admitted this today, and other managers have in the past too! This afternoon I called in a to-go order with the usual - pizza, pasta, salad, soup etc. I'm told it will be ready in 25 minutes. I arrive five minutes early. The place is almost empty; the kitchen is NOT slammed. I waited for another 25 minutes and when the pizza comes out, it's wrong - because the woman taking the order doesn't know the menu adequately. (She had on the very item that is in the description and that I requested be left off, and didn't have the substituted item.) The daughter's owner Laura admits that it is true that the Order-Taker should've known their own menu much better, and understood what what does and does not come on that pizza. She then haggles with me on comping the redo pizza; she wants to take half off. I prevail. Meanwhile people are starving at home, the ice cream is melting, the other food is getting cold. The Redo was only going to take "7 minutes". Over and over again I'm told "It's coming right out....". 15 MORE minutes later I walked out -- without the pizza. Besides all this, they have let go their long-time treasure of a manager, Lillianna. She was the only one who would have the order ready at the actual designated time of pick up. Besides that I always saw that customers loved her! Besides all of this, the quality of the food has gone downhill, and so it's no longer worth the wait. read more

Barone's pizzas are truly "one of a kind." They taste homemade, like something your Italian grandma put together for you for your Sunday visit. So many pizza places have pies that taste like most cheaply put together pizzas at various locations that just squeeze by tasting like a pizza. Barone's is different. Every time I've ordered pizza there, it's consistent and so so delicious. I have to get there again soon since my mouth is watering just thinking about a pizza pie from Barone's. I'm really hard to please when it comes to pizza and Barone's is in a class by itself. Last night we walked over for dinner. We were pleased to sit at an amazing red booth. Thelma Jones was playing (look her up!) It was super romantic. Our waiter Michael was amazing he made sure we had everything we needed and we felt so at home and loved the music so much we decided to stay and have a canolli & amaretto! We ordered the garlic bread, a lovely salad, the small veggie pizza and the penne. Everything was top notch. A group of 8 of us had a reservation for a Tuesday night - which we didn't need as there was plenty of available seating. The food was okay, nothing special to write home about. I liked the flat bread crust on the pizza and the "famous" cheesecake was also just okay, the "fruit topping" ending up being frozen strawberries. Once they thawed a bit they were easier to eat. But overall that was disappointing. They also have a fairly large parking lot but have a valet that has to park your car for $3.50. This was just unnecessary. He drove 3 feet and parked my car in a nearly EMPTY lot. I appreciate having valets in Los Angeles, but clearly this is not needed DURING THE WEEK at this location. Maybe on the weekends it would be warranted. Maybe. Food was okay, no major complaints but also nothing special. read more

I've been eating here since I was a little kid. For the most part the pizza has been consistent. I've had maybe 2-3 so so pizzas in 20+ years of eating here. Only had bad service once. Now some people might not come back to a place after a poor experience but this place has been so good throughout my life I always come back. It's definitely the best tasting pizza I've ever had. I enjoy lots of pizza. If I lived closer I'd probably eat here 3 times a week. Luckily I'm about 45 minutes away. Lol. So I came to this restaurant for the first time to have lunch with my wife and I ordered a lemonade and an ice tea which was fine but when they came to ordering food We had an issue. I was ordering the appetizer platter which has ribs, Wings, fired zucchini and garlic bread. I explained to the waiter that I am allergic to zucchini and if they can substitute it for another garlic bread and just charge me a substitution fee and he told me know it would be seven dollars for a complete roll of garlic bread and that one was already in the order. After trying to tell the waiter several times that I was allergic to fried zucchini he told me that there's nothing he can do. so I got up and asked for the bill for the two soft drinks and they charge me $10 for them. read more
