I was ready to take my car in for a transmission replacement but after reading the reviews my gut tells me to stay away. One review from January mentioned that she wasn't sure if the owner's name was Josie or Melissa which made me stop in my tracks as I had a very similar situation with the owner. She was very nice and informational over the phone and during one conversation I asked what her name was and she said Melissa. We hung up and then she called me right back and said that her name is Josie and she had a customer in-front of her and she read the customers name and told me that name which was Melissa. I didn't think too much about it (though it was a little weird how you make a mistake on your own name) but when I read the review from someone else who said she was given two of the same names, I just got a bad feeling. read more

I took my car to get checked out with Barragan Transmission, owner Josie or Melissa not sure if her name is Josie. I didn't know of anyone else to take it to, I thought since I was dealing with a woman I was going to be able to relate, total nightmare from the beginning, I had to pay up front first of all, then I was told not to use my 4x4. My transmission after repair with Josie breaks down 4 months after I had paid $5,600.00 out of my own pocket and then I had to pay another $3,500.00 with another shop to get it properly fixed. I have never experienced something like this before, I do not want another person, especially another mother that has no idea how these things work. I feel like I was victimized due to my lack of knowledge. I am still trying to get my $5,600.00 back. Josie and her son have help my family out many times. My 1998 Suburban got a transmission from Barragan's. My 1996 Chevy Silverado will be getting a second transmission next week if all goes well. They also put a transmission In my 2007 Yukon XL. Josie even put a transmission in my elderly neighbor's Ford taurus when no one else would do it. She gave him a great price and great service. So I had a ford fusion hybrid 2013 model and the transmission was broken ( car had gone 200k miles). Major shout out to "Barragan Transmissions!!" My husband and I have been preparing my old SUV for trips to Santa Barbara and Colorado. It's had a once over at Firestone and an oil change at Jiffy Lube... We leave for Santa Barabara in about an hour... and my check engine light just came on. *$#%"!* !!! What to do? Rent? Pray? The Answer! BARRAGAN! Not only were they open...they checked the code on the spot! No hassle. And to top it off they didnt even charge me. The other reviews really say it all. The poor business practices of Josie and Anthony are enraging. In an effort to keep it short, I'll do my best to sum up my month long debacle with Barragan Transmissions. A friend referred me to Barragan Transmissions after my transmission failed. I live in Southern California and my truck broke down near San Jose, CA, so there was some coordinating that needed to be done. When the work was done, I flew to San Jose and drove my truck home that night. The truck made it back home to So Cal and the next morning, the transmission failed again. Their warranty states they will replace the transmission if I get it back to the shop. Unfortunately for me, that is what it all came down to. For nearly a month, they had me send it to shop after shop, every time claiming they were not responsible for the transmission failing, instead claiming the truck had other issues which was the reason for the failure. Mechanic after mechanic told me the same thing; the reason the truck is not driving forward is because the transmission has failed. It still is baffling to me how many different ways Josie would spin that to benefit her position. After disputing the charge with my credit card company, Josie ultimately won because of the verbiage in the warranty. I couldn't justify the cost of having the truck towed up to San Jose and the cost of driving it back yet again when I wasn't happy with the work done to the truck in the first place. In the end, I ate the entire cost of the transmission job, in addition to the added up cost of multiple tows to different mechanic shops. If nothing else, stay away just to spare yourself the headache of having to deal with Josie. She's a handful. BTW, at the time my review is posted, there are only 2 positive reviews for Barragans. One of the positive reviews is written by a user who has written just that 1 review. Suspect. The other positive review is written by a user with 4 total reviews, 2 of which are positive. The 2 positive reviews are for auto shops. The first for Barragan. The second is for an auto shop where the review starts, "Thanh is one of the two service stations I trust ( the other is myself )." I got referred here from a friend as some of the other reviews stated as well. In late winter 2008 but 1991 Honda Accord's transmission went out; the odometer read 165,000 miles. I waited almost 2 years to get it fixed. It just sat in my garage. Then a friend let me know about this place. Josie and Anthony were so nice. They gave me a quote of $800.00 for rebuild the transmission. It took about a month. In the mist of all of it, Josie called me to let me know that the computer in the car was not working properly as well and she went ahead and ordered a new one and put it in for me! I took in my 2008 Nissan Pathfinder to get transmission repaired. Juan was the person that helped me with the process. He was very knowledgable and explained the whole process. Barragon's took care of the issue and went above and beyond. I also had issues with the latch on my hood and he repaired at no charge. I felt good with the outcome and feel that they where an honest shop which is rare. This is the 2nd vehicle that they've repaired within 10 years and no issues to this day! A friend of ours referred us to this place and I will never have mycar serviced here again!! They kept saying that they were going to come by our home to check out our issue and estimate it. They would set up times with us and never show then when they did they said nothing was wrong even though the car wouldn't even start. So, reluctantly they gave us an estimate and took our car to the shop. Initially they estimated it at one price then when we called weeks later to find out when we should be getting it, they give us the run around and told us that there were other parts that were being ordered and gave us a completely HIGHER pricing, when were they going to call and let us know?? After the fact?? Then they told us we would be getting it one day and when that day came and went and didn't get a call WE called them to be told it wasn't going to be ready for another week!! Then over a week went by and did not received a call!! This went on for 3 more weeks!! So we get a call telling us that it was ready and he needed the money THAT very day, after we had been NEEDING it and EXPECTING it for weeks! When we pick it up it was filthy, completely out of gas (even though the shop was about 4 miles away), and looked like they had used it for their work, grease marks on the inside! Took me a little while to finally write my review but here we go, I was recently referred here by my brother-in-law, once my honda passport (2000) failed on me. In all honesty I was ready to sell it rather than invest, however she was recently paid off and she took care of me during my military career. At first I was reluctant to come here because I like so many others check reviews but JUAN took the up most care of her. She needed a a full tare down. He quoted me an affordable price and pick up within five days. Later he found out that the damage was much worse than expected, after informing me I assumed the price would go up. Juan not only took care of ALL damages but still charged me at the original quoted price. Although it took up to seven days instead of five he not only constantly checked in but kept me very informed of what exactly was being done with my vehicle. In all I highly recommend, and I am very appreciative! She will be due for a check up in six weeks I will continue a second review. read more

Stay away I don't know what to tell you. Don't deal with them. I left my pickup there with Anthony, and called all the time, for over two weeks for an update. He kept saying he was trying to get to it, but had some cars in front of mine. The end result is it was stolen. Anthony waited until after I called, and then called my son, and asked if we picked up my truck. They did not lock it, put it in behind their gates as he said they would, and now my truck got stolen. When I went down there to talk to someone about this, the owner (Josie) said she knows it was most likely put on a tow truck and is now in a pick and pull in Fresno. She was very nonchalant about the whole issue, did not offer to compensate me and just went about her business. I had to call the police and do the report. They don't have insurance to cover it, and now I'm out $3000. Before taking it to them I put in a new radiator, battery and clutch which cost over $500.00 all unfortunately before finding out I needed a new main bearing. I took it to them to fix the main bearing. They are a rip off. If you go there don't say you have not been warned. Now, I have to spend my time getting ready to go to small claims court to get my money. They suck, don't go!!!!! read more

I would like to say thank you to Barragans transmissions. I have a Dodge ram diesel truck that I had sent to numerous transmissions people. They said that they would rebuilt transmission cheaper with good quality at work.super cheap ended up being very expensive. I spent about five Thousand dollars. I again having problems with the transmission throughout all of that time. It is a very long story. Recently I took it to a transmission shop and they told me that transmission needed rebuilding. I had put about 15000 miles after last rebuild. to rebuild it would cost me $3600 plus $90 for diagnostic. I had them do diagnostic. I told my brother about it and he told me about it transmission shop that he had used before. My brother had a really good experience with Barragans. We took it to his shop. He lifted the truck actually got into the transmission. Right away he noticed the problems. To that point he had charged me not one cent. Not even for the diagnostic. I explained to him all the things that I had gone through. He was very sympathetic. He charged me $1000 less than the other shop. Other people have taken weeks to fix or to rebuild transmission. I had a lot of downtime. I use my truck for construction. Barragans had my truck ready in three days. The truck runs better than I have ever run it before. If you know anything about Dodge ram trucks with diesel engine you know that the engine is too much engine for that transmission. I, like my brother, will continue to use their services. You will save money and time and work and peace of mind and heartaches and so many other things. I definitely would not hesitate to recommend them to anybody read more
