HOT TIP -If you look at the "to go" menus in front of the hostess station, there is a stack of to-go menus that included a black $5 off coupon of purchases for $20 or more, so help yourself and get some money off your meal. There are 3 restaurants in this location off the highway - 3 of them are all the same owner, One Mexican, one pizza and this one (BBQ). Seems to me they are competing with themselves for customers since none of them ever seem busy, but who knows the logic of this, maybe they got a deal on the real estate?, or maybe the workers/managers work at all 3? We have been to the Mexican one (Black Agave), and today came to the BBQ one, based on the limited but rave reviews. It was a Sunday around 3pm and the place was empty. In MHO these restaurants have great potential but miss on the details. Things like: never removing the menus from our table, not advertising the specials or HH on any of their communications (not on menus, not on little table signs, not told to you by the waitstaff unless you specifically ask, not on the website, etc), food not quite hot enough...) We were here just before a Mavericks basketball game was about to begin. and all appetizers are 1/2 price during games. - good to know, glad I asked, I am dying to try the deep fried deviled eggs! They do have a few lunch specials listed on the menu, whew! Note though that the QR code on the menu for the beer specials sends your phone to a website where you have to select your location, yada yada... NOT to the beer specials. We ordered a pastrami brisket sandwich to split (upgraded to sweet potato fries) and a cup of the brisket potato chowder. The sandwich was very good, so were the fries, the soup was good, but barely warm. We came from Sacramento, CA to Dallas for the 2024 Solar Eclipse and were looking for authentic Texas Barbecue. The restaurant is a new location and the original business started off as a craft whiskey joint. The place is new, modern, casual, and clean. The server Damien was super cool and had an interesting superhero back story. The brisket queso dip was amazing and we all enjoyed our entrees. Most notable were the brisket, pulled BBQ, pork ribs, and BBQ chicken. Highly recommend!

We saw this restaurant opened up not too far from where we lived and we decided to check it out. When we walked in they told us we could sit anywhere and a waiter would be right with us. Our biggest issue was that they only have ONE waiter and he chose not to tell us that happy was still going- and we didnt order anything on the happy hour menu since we thought it was over. However, he did tell the table next to us... that was disappointing. The food was surprisingly good and fresh! I got the brisket grilled cheese. I would have gotten the mac and cheese as a side but they were out (I did try it another time, not great). I got a caeser salad instead and it was pretty good! My husband got the pulled pork with beans as a side. The beans were not his favorite, but we both thought the sandwiches were great. I came back with my coworkers a week or so later for lunch and the sandwich was just as good as when we went. My one coworker did get tacos and they were incredibly greasy and made him feel a bit sick after so maybe stay away from those. The restaurant doesn't have a ton of seating, and its also connected to the Mexican restaurant in the back- I think its also owned by them. We haven't tried it yet, but I would be interested another time.

Visited here from Seattle. Had a party of 6. Placed an order for the two meat combo - with brisket and pork belly burnt ends. Hubby had ribs with a side of baked beans. I also ordered the smoked wings. Per our server the Mac n cheese is trash, he didn't recommend the pizza said it would take too long and the pulled pork Pibil. There were a few other orders of food, ribs, wings, brisket grilled cheese. For the food. The brisket was served lukewarm but had good taste. The wings were good. I liked the bbq sauce. The pork belly burnt ends was not hitting. The ribs were okay. They were smoky a little salty but they were caked with pepper. The truffle fries were good but nothing was hot and that's disappointing. The baked beans had great taste. I loved them but hubby didn't like them. Also I feel like cheese was on top of them.

Absolutely amazing! The turkey melt was the best bbq turkey I've had. The chicken tortilla soup was tops! The almost Cuban.....my husband was licking his fingers it was so tasty! Ask for Jalea! Awesome!!! The service was amazing as well. You have to come check this place out! We plan on coming back to watch a game too!! Did I mention the dessert....:

    Lemon cake

Food is tasty. I had Brisket and onion rings. For dessert, lemon cake. The brisket was good. The bbq sauce was very tasty. The lemon cake had a light lemon flavor. It was nice.

Normally, I'll wait until after a 2nd or 3rd visit to give a review - especially 5 stars - but I don't have to this time. Everything was perfectly seasoned and sauced. They weren't trying to hide anything. Even the sweet tea was on point and not overly sugared to disguise other flavors. The service was excellent and we never felt forgotten or neglected. The ambiance isn't "too much" (although a few more local items might not be a bad thing). I'm looking forward to returning and taking out-of-town visitors and colleagues. Tip: You can also order from their sister restaurants Black Agave and Dough Bros!

Luli makes you feel welcome and at home.

We wandered into this new restaurant after checking out another restaurant, Bugatti's, which is yet to open. We were curious about the location. But now back to Barrel & Bones. We received a warm welcome from Luli who was eager to take us through the menu. Luli was overflowing with enthusiasm and joy to be there. Having tasted some of the best BBQ in the area, our taste buds are educated. Maybe even spoiled. We tried pork ribs, lean brisket, and a Monte Cristo brisket sandwich all of which was just okay. The biggest disappointment was that we asked for extra raspberry jam with our to-go sandwich order only to discover when we got home that there was zero jam in the bag. Instead, we found a cup of salty, dry rub seasoning, which made zero sense. Restaurant should also watch for too much fat in the sandwich and on what they call "lean brisket." On a positive note, we learned that there is an adjoining restaurant called Black Agave. Both restaurants under one roof allow you to sit in one restaurant and order from the menu of the other. Also, it's nice to enjoy drinks in one restaurant, then dinner in the other, making it a full night out.

this restaurant is not Barrel & Bones anymore. Even though the B&B sign is still out front, it's now some sort of an Italian restaurant.

Here's my review update. My Overall Rating - 4 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - First the good - if the weather is nice Shoal's will open their sliding doors and bring TMF's newly remodeled greenspace to you. There's also a full bar in the middle, tons of communal seating, and plenty of TVs on to keep you entertained. The bad - it's super-hot in Texas and parking at TMF will always be a pain. Sorry I complain about this in every TMF restaurant review. 1/2 Star. Service - First the good - the servers are super friendly there's plenty of seating. The bad - ordering by scanning the QR code never works, and your cell phone signal is weak for AT&T customers. However, you can always order from the back and the staff are so nice and helpful, which trumps technology challenges. In other words, skip the QR code and order in the back. 1 Star. Food - First the great - I ordered their fried chicken (dark), and it was pretty darn good. The chicken so very well-seasoned, had a nice crunch outside, and was super juicy on the inside. Not only was I surprised, but I also think this is going to be my go-to dish in the future. Why? Well, their burnt ends, which were tasty thanks to being tossed in some nice, tangy BBQ sauce, were a bit tough to bite into. That seems to be the theme for me at Shoals, I'm more impressed with their non-BBQ items. 1 1/2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. I'm a big fan of Irving's Toyota Music Factory (despite the 2% tax on my bill). There are plenty of options withs tons of variety. Add Shoal's to the mix because I'll be back (for the non-BBQ items). 1 Star.

And I come from the part of the country where being light on salt is the default. Now smokiness was well on point. There was some marbling but not enough to deliver a mouthwatering juicy bite. Pulled pork. Same. Severly underseasoned. Smokiness was good and it was juicy. But it didnt matter.. Spicy sausage. My favorite. Seasoned and smoked well. The bread was amazing.

More than that, I want to post a HUGE thankyou to the staff, Lola in particular, for bailing me out of what could have been a catastrophe of monumental proportions. I'd driven up from Kingsland, TX, following a crazy Google GPS Route and my phone's battery gave out... 1/4 mile from the store! I coaxed enough juice into it to get me to Sonny's, but then I was totally stuck! Everything I needed to find the place where my friend was staying was trapped in my useless phone! I couldn't call him to tell him why I was so late. That's where Lola earned my undying gratitude. After explaining my plight, she let me use their wireless charger AND printed out the directions I needed to follow to get to my destination! Thanks to the 'above and beyond' heroics of Sonny's staff I made it to meet my friend and had a wonderful afternoon with my him and his family. Thank you Sonny Bryant's Smokehouse! You saved my day! Side: green bean casserole & baked beans. The pulled chicken may have had a smoked flavor but it was impossible to tell due to extreme saltiness. We both agreed this was a "never again" item. The Sliced brisket on the other hand had a visible smoke ring but was overdone or perhaps had been held too long in a bin. It was not bad but I've had so much better and would not buy a Lb of this meat to go like I do at the Sonny Bryan's across from Southwest Medical. That one is very consistent and usually on point particularly with the meats. To be fair we ate the 3 slices of brisket (drenched in sauce) but I'm disappointed and would look for other options and not this location at the time of day. The roll was cold but not stale. It just was meh and didn't add anything to the meal. The beans were also just barely better than most canned beans. The may have been canned and then touched up but not good. I wanted good beans and these were not that. The casserole looked good enough but taste was flat. Tasted like green beans with fried onions and cream of something soup but missing flavor. They had salt and that was not missing but they were not notable at all. The green beans did have a little snap and were probably made from fresh but they gave their tenderness for nothing. It was a fail. Order 2: Chopped barbecue sandwich. Sandwich was decent and meat adequately sauced to be more tender with a perceptible smokiness. It wasn't great brisket and the base meat wasn't particularly tender but as stated the sauce helped compensate. Positive note was they did give a discount for seniors but price had nothing to do with the meal experience. Wish this had been better because I was looking forward to this lunch since yesterday. ******* NOT RECOMMENDED ******
