I was at Barrio Queen 2 days ago as it's one of my favorite places for margaritas! With that being said the waitress spilled our waters all over me and never even offered to comp a round a drinks for us !! My clothes were completely soaked ! They only thing she did was offer to get us more towels to wipe up the mess! Poor customer service! read more

Food was pretty good. Atmosphere is pretty cool and the art is fun. Truly nothing spectacular though. A bit pricey for what you get as well. Enchiladas were bland and the pork burrito was quite flavorful but missing something- maybe some salsa or an avocado slice on top. Had the ginger margarita and it was delicious but small and quite pricey. In a pinch, I would eat here again, but wasn't impressed with the food. read more

My family and I just had the most amazing meal and service at Barrio Queen Desert Ridge. In a time when service seems to take a back seat, ANGEL was spot on. It was surprisingly bad. Pros: - atmosphere by far. Just a cool place. - that's it... no more pros. Cons - - The food was so bland. My buddy had some $22 plate of some type of meat in some type of red sauce that reminded me of a manwich. A very expensive, weird, bland tasting manwich. Actually I like manwich sandwiches, but when I sampled it I understood the look on his face, which was pretty much, "WTF is this?" - I had 3 tacos, and I'm not sure what was in these, but tasted like cardboard (if you cooked it and flavored it with ground up cardboard). Once again, in this weird red sauce that was a combination of tomato paste and sawdust. I couldn't finish them, and there were only 3 teenie, tiny little tacos. Very expensive, teenie tacos. - We had their house guacamole - 'served fresh tableside!" I watched at the waitress made it (looking bored out of her mind), and I watched as she dumped heaping spoonfuls of tomatos, onions, and other stuff (did NOT like the pomegranites to begin with, let along the TON she dumped in there). Then finally she got to the avocados and it was the smallest ingredient that was in this watery mush. And the chips that came with it...so hard my mouth bled. - This slop was expensive. So $22 buck for the entree, my mini tacos were like $15 bucks, and the guac was $14. And I really don't mind higher prices if I actually get something I like, but I'm not kidding... this place should take down their sign and just turn it into Fillabertos. I'm not normally this tough on restaurants, especially a restaurant that is locally owned and operated. But this place is NOT locally owned and operated. I believe this place was bought out last year by a couple of VERY rich folks who own a TON of restaurants all over the country. And the strategy is always the same: create a hip place, very touristy, and then skimp on making good food, but charge an arm and leg for it. Better yet, try to pretend the food is 'authentic' and 'straight from the land of Mexico'. Just upper middle class folks who just want to go somewhere that looks nice, and who don't care about quality and price. They hope by having an 'expensive' menu, that folks will translate as good food. And more times than not, its not good food. Exhibit A: Barrio Queen. At least they don't give out free peanuts... For whatever reason it's hard to find Mexican food with decent outdoor seating in Phoenix. It exists but just not as common as you'd think. Ever since Barrio Queen came to Desert Ridge, we've been wanting to go, and we were glad we finally did. Our server, Justin, was fast and friendly, and the food was very good. The guacamole is expensive, but it is so delicious. I had 3 tacos (carnitas, al pastor, carne asada y chile relleno) and my wife had the carne asada quesadillas appetizer as a meal. Great patio and service, very good food, but just a bit overpriced. It's still worth checking out for the guacamole alone. read more

I enjoyed the thicker style tortilla chips and the salsa was really yummy. I had the Barrio Pollo taco and Carne Asada y Chile Relleno taco. Both super tasty- the carne asada was my favorite. The meat was tender and seasoned perfectly. I had the churros for dessert- what I did not care for was the filling inside of the churros. It was a sweet caramel-like filling. Just personal preference. Definitely want to go back and try more of their food! It's nice to have a fresh Mexican food option at Desert Ridge. read more

On Sunday, Jan 26, I arranged a party for my husband's 75 th birthday at Barrio Queen in Desert Ridge. The place was busy but the staff was able to set up a party of 16 in the party room half hour before the guests would arrive. Everything was set up, we decorated and all was ready! We had a phenomenal waiter who handled the entire group with a smiling countenance and friendly manner. His name is Horaccio and he did an outstanding job! I've heard such great wonderful things about this place. So when I finally had a chance to go check it I dragged my wife & our 2 friends with me. We arrived around 7:45. When walking into the restaurant we noticed the nice band outside. The ambience was perfect, they have heaters, beautiful decor, and perfect open seating in the patio. We asked the server if we could sit outside to Enjoy that ambience. Of course she seats us at table with no heater . So when we request another table she slightly rolls her eyes and tells us to wait inside. So we wait patiently. She sits us 5-10 minutes later at a table with heaters. Awesome! Thanks! We waited 10-15 minutes no one greeted us, no one asked if we wanted water, no one gave us silverware. It's like we weren't even there. So we got up and left. On our way out we told the staff why we were leaving and they seem to be unbothered. So we took our money some where else.. you can have all the beautiful decor in the world but if your staff isn't friendly or up to par.. what's the point... better luck next time Barrio Queen read more

Went on Taco Tuesday, all tacos were $3. Great service, food came fast and was delicious. Always had full water, chips and salsa and the server brought our daughter an ice cream dessert at the end. Will definitely be back soon to try out more of the menu! read more

So, we had previously come here and had a negative experience with the overall outcome. We came back to give it another chance due to being reached out to by a manager and receiving a gift card. So, I had gotten the cocktail elote. It was actually very good and seemed to be made fresh. The portion and flavors were good. Although I was surprised it was not on the cobb, but rather in a bowl. My roommate had got the cup of albondigas. After his first bite he said it was very progresso-esque. I had a taste and I had to agree. It was very salty and also didn't have rice (which I found to not be so authentic based on other experiences). To top it off, we had to wait some time for the bill. We were going to a movie after so that was nerve racking. AND NO RESERVATIONS. C'mon. We appreciate the interaction with the manager but sometimes these things happen. Won't be returning. read more

Barrio Queen is an insult to Latinos and to the palate. Look around there are no people of color dining. The salasa was so watery and the chips so hard I was questioning if they were made for MREs and the military. 3 hard limes were placed in a bowl to use door stops or table props. They certainly weren't edible. Finally, the menu....black beans....come on. There is a lot of fanciness involved for subpar food. It is a theme restaurant and the theme is "bad food" to call it mexican is an insult. read more

Two and a half stars. Margaritas are strong and tasty. Guacamole is made fresh to order with crispy thick tortilla chips. Delicious. Entrees were so-so, food came out so fast, i assumed they had trays of already cooked meats back in the kitchen. I ordered the two tacos or three, I don't remember but the carne asada was ok. Fish was better, crispy shell, flaky white fish. Both needed more flavor. Touristy restaurant, but hey, it's old town Scottsdale. Doubt I'll go back as there is better Mexican food in the valley. read more

Today I visited Again and OMG Barrio queen keep blowing my mind away with their food and customer service. My wife and I ordered The molcajete and the dish is so delicious. Ricardo the General manages stop by our table to make sure everything was fine and let me tell you what a service he provide not only to us but to every table. He was asking all the tables how was everything and was interact with all the guess. Also I would like to comment on another manager I believe her name is Rosie she also stop by our table and other tables around the restaurant to make sure our meal was great. Love the customer service from the General mane Ricardo to the servers and all the team members that work in this particular establishment. Food again was phenomenal.
