We've been here since it opened and have seen it go up and down. Today was the best! The chopped salad was delicious. I loved the lettuce and mix ins. Kids loved their burritos. I came here on a Friday night with my wife. They didn't do reservations and the wait was approximately 30-40 mins which I used to treat myself to a beer. From the moment we were seated the server was very attentive and friendly. We asked for recommendations and got a few. We ordered the barrio guacamole as a starter, and ordered the carnitas and chili verde plates as the main course. We also indulged in a Paloma which were the highlight of the night after we asked for a tad more squirt in our drinks. Honestly the only reason we didn't give this a 5 stars was the carnitas which were very dry, the guacamole was very good but a tad overpriced in my opinion. The best dish by far was the Chile verde, which was surprisingly similar to what I've had in Mexico delicious. I would suggest leaving the kids at home if you come here. Thank you! read more

A great atmosphere and amazing food! Such an extensive menu with so much to choose from. The kids menu was a hit and not then usual pizza, hot dog and chicken fingers only. The table was clean and bathrooms were pretty clean. Not too noisy and beautiful natural light comes through the windows. Makes for a pleasant dine in. The service was fabulous. Our waiter was quick and polite. His customer service skills were top notch. This was our first time eating there and we were very impressed. All in all a very nice spot to eat at desert ridge marketplace with a few big hits and a few near misses. Margaritas flow like water here, enjoy a flight or choose one of the many manifestations of margaritas on the menu. Some good Mexican beer, and of course mucho tequila. I have had take out from here twice and dined in once, having also dined in their other location in Scottsdale. Taco Tuesday offers $1 off tacos while margarita Monday offers $2 off margaritas. Happy hour is 2-5 and is the best bet for those on a budget. Excellent drink specials from $4 and limited food from $5-$7. We had a margarita and an El Chapo, eloté, tacos, and pozole soup. The four varieties of tacos we tried were great! The pozole was very good but could have used more hominy, and didn't come with lime and cilantro but had red cabbage on top. It's a different way than I'm used to but it was very good. The eloté was not good. Very bland and very dry and barely any cotija or crema. Just sad corn. Burned pretty much. Really very bad for such a simple dish. Service was good as we ate at the bar and were well tended to by the bartender. You can eat in or outside on the heated patio. It's not the most lovely patio since you're just in the middle of a busy parking lot so I suggest eating inside with the big open windows and Mexican ambiance. read more

We were able to enjoy our appetizers in a short amount of time and Angel was tentative to our every need. I had their chips & salsa, a chicken burrito with Mexican rice, and a pineapple margarita. Overall, pretty good! I thought the chicken was good quality, but the margarita could've used a bit more flavor. It looked like a tablespoon of butter was dropped in my drink but it was the pineapple cut. I went with a friend on a busy Saturday night. Upon being seated outdoors, we waited for at least 10-15 minutes for the server. Our server apologized for the wait, however, the rest of the night was pretty much us waiting for our food/water refills. I asked for a vegetarian suggestion and was told to get the chili relleno vegetable dish. It was a very pricey dish that I didn't feel was worth it at all- especially since I left most of it uneaten. My friend had ordered blue corn tortilla tacos but instead was given the flour tortillas. The server explained that the tortillas would be coming out shortly but it took the rest of the night for that to actually happen. My friend was compted for the meal and the manager came to apologize as well. It was great for the manager to do this but overall the experience was not something I would want to go through again. read more

Came here with a friend and my son for lunch. They have a dog friendly patio so I brought my pharaoh hound and we sat on the patio. The food was delicious and came out quickly. I was very impressed with the El Pastor taco flavor complexity. I requested a bowl of rice and chicken for my dog and the was a little confusion but they got it straightened out for me and even comped it for my dog. The food was terrible. We ordered the Queen Enchiladas and the Cochinita Torta. NO FLAVOR, NO SEASONINGS. Everything was bland. The margaritas were less than mediocre. The only thing that tasted good were the fries, because they were actually seasoned. I hate leaving bad reviews, hence 2 stars, since the restaurant is pretty with a nice atmosphere. Service was not great. My server left or went on break and didn't let us know that someone would be covering. If I wasn't so hungry, I would have just paid and left to eat elsewhere. read more

Not real impressed with our dinner last night around 6:30. The service was great but everything else was disappointing. My mom and I ordered margaritas and tacos. The server claimed the shrimp tacos were "amazing" so I ordered 3... they delivered 2 shrimp and 1 fish taco. The shrimp tacos were average, the fish one was a little better. My mom said her tacos (beef, chicken, and fish) were "OK, but there are other restaurants in the area with much better ones " and I agree. The small margaritas are packed with ice and not much drink for the money. Although I have had other restaurants' jalapeno margaritas that are are spicy and delicious, this one burned my throat and had a bad aftertaste. Someone came by and asked "how is your meal, and how do you like that jalapeno margarita?" She did not introduce herself (so rude) so I have no idea who she was. I smiled and said, "the margarita is a little too hot for my taste." She disagreed and then walked away! She obviously did not care about my opinion... why did she even ask??? This is not your average Mexican joint. This place is fun!!!! The sugar skulls that are all over are cool to look at! The menu is crazy. They have a million types of tacos to choose from. Their quest is so good I put it on everything I order. Their chips are fresh and their salsa isn't one of those boring bland salsas with no flavor. It's very tasty!! The portions are large so you get what you pay for! Their margaritas are also delicious. It does get a little loud at night so if you want to have date night this may not be the best place but the atmosphere and food are worth it! I highly recommend trying their tacos. Real nice place in Desert Ridge Marketplace, outdoor patio was large and shaded from trees. Large menu and nice selection of alcohol. Chips were freshly made and the dip was slightly hot, but good. I had the Barrio Pollo Burrito, that was excellent! Others had a quesadilla and the Arizona Burrito which got great reviews. We will definitely go back next time we visit. As I walked out I wanted to warn people who were waiting. Our waiter was inattentive at best. Cleared things w/o asking including the chips we were eating with our meal. Took forever to replace a beer that would've been great to have WITH the meal. The food was truly just average. The kids meal, 2 chicken tacos consisted of cheese and chicken in a wilted tortilla. The dessert included four of the worst churros I've ever had - hard and chewy and barely warm. It took forever to get the bill and upon bringing it the waiter didn't even ask about the dessert that was sitting there uneaten. I was reluctant to try this place for my own reasons but must say that I stand corrected in my reluctancy. The food was really good. I had the tacos; fish and shrimp and a jalapeño margarita. The marg was absolutely amazing! I would have ordered another but tried to keep my tab within reason but seriously... they don't use sweet and sour. That's huge. I didn't realize how much better drinks would taste with real juices. The tacos were fabulous. Perfect for my appetite that day. I just ordered two and didn't get any sides but I'm terrible at filling up with chips and salsa. My recommendation to this place would be the chips. They were greasy (somewhat) not like terrible but more than I'm used to. Does this keep me from trying this place out or coming back? Hell no. Really people, there are soooo many opinions out there. My husband and I were more than enthusiastic upon reading the menu. The waitress was upbeat and helpful From there it went downhill ! I ordered three tacos for $11 and received three soft shell tortilla with a total of three shrimp , one for each 4 in tortilla the shredded cabbage and diced tomato( probably the equivalent of three grape tomatoes) made up the balance of the meal !
