Experience tonight: server was Duzan S Decided to have dinner with a friend here for the Dia de los muertos event. Our waiter was Duzan S (according to receipt) was acting weird and not attentive. Think he insulted me twice. First insult- he asked our drink orders and offered margaritas and I asked for a Dr Pepper, he tried to convince me "it's Friday, you should have a margarita", i said sorry I don't know how to drink and drive and I still wanted a soda. Then he said "im killing his vibe" then he seemed weird about it. My friend ordered a margarita from the 4 course meal (she thought). Brings drinks then takes food orders - my friend orders the food from the 4 course special and he ask her which margarita? She thought the one she ordered the first time was the same one but he said no and made her order two margaritas instead of adjusting the order. It was the same margarita ! I ordered two tacos and steak fries, he said they didn't have those anymore, and I said ok I still want the French fries ( how it's printed on the menu). Guess what I got? "Steak fries! " After food arrived, he didn't check on us for a while , i asked for a refill and I said "dr pepper". He said "is that a question?". He's not paying attention it appears and I repeat myself and he brings me my drink. 2nd insult: We finally asked for our checks and while he is ringing us up at the table, my friend and I were having small talk about the night with the waiter and he says "I was given the shitty section". I should have said, "me too lol" I was paying at this time adding his tip, should have kept it. Some lady stopped by and said bye to him and complemented him that he is great and tip him good. Nice selection of tacos. I like that they have brisket, chorizo, and one with pineapple. Heck they even toss an over-easy egg on a few of them. Chips are good and the guacamole is served table side. It's chunked guacamole so maybe not everyone's style. There a quite a few cervezas on tap and the patio is fairly large. So good! Salsa was fresh just right amount of spice. Chips are different but good with fresh lime squeezed on them. Line half's are layered through the chip bowl for you to add more as you go. Yum way better than salt! We had Taco's 3 for $12.00. Between the 2 of us we had 6, all different kinds. They were all really good. Our waitress was fantastic and we sat on the patio. They have a happy hour from 2-6 Monday-Friday and tacos are $1 off each. They have lots of other specials for drinks and food. Definitely going to be a new favorite place. read more

We've visited the Barrio Queen at Desert Ridge Paradise Valley twice now, and both times we had a terrific customer experience. We were greeted by the management with enthusiasm and quickly seated. All the staff took an interest in us and made us feel special with their prompt, friendly, personalized service. On both visits, "Kassie" in particular was extremely upbeat, efficient, and attentive to our requests. She sets the example for "world class" customer service. The great service and tasty food, combined with the Mexican courtyard atmosphere, make for a fun and memorable experience. We came to Barrio Queen last weekend after having spent all day at the pool. We looked a mess, but we were welcomed w open arms! Having a guest in from out of state, we had a patient waiter who explained the menu and helped her pick something within her comfort zone (chicken tinga tacos) We also had the Chiles em Nogada, a special on the menu which is basically a stuffed chili in a DELICIOUS cream sauce w pomegranate seeds and bits of heaven sprinkled in (trust me!) and then I think more tacos? We had the queso fundido and nachos to kick things off because, you know how pool lounging really works up an appetite! We also had a house Marg and a cucumber Marg, both of which were absolutely divine!! Seriously, so good! And service was fantastic! Loved our time at Barrio Queen tonight! We sat in the outdoor area on a sunny and comfortable day. We started the meal with some table side guacamole, which was amazing! It came with pomegranate seeds on top, which I have never had on guac, but I'll definitely be adding it from now on! I had two shrimp tacos (one grilled and one breaded) for dinner. It was the perfect amount of food given that I had been munching guac and salsa beforehand. Our server was entertaining and really made the experience great. Not sure what all the hype is about. The waiter was a complete jerk. He made table side guac with one hard avocado. Not worth the price. I ordered three tacos. A lady brought 4 different tacos that weren't what I ordered waiter comes over with an attitude asking what I ordered then? I told him one was shrimp and not fish. He returns with a taco... I take a bite. It's fish! I wave him over and say it's fish. He says Ok? I said I ordered shrimp! God forbid I ask for the actual tacos I ordered. Finally, manager brings over a shrimp taco... which was cold and tasted like old oil. I gave up at this point. Totally disappointed in the service, the food and overall experience. I was looking forward to trying this place. I think you should invest in better customer service. The biker guy with white beard needs customer service training! read more

This rating is based on my experience with several factors in mind. Food 5/5 the quesabirria tacos were awesome. The other specialty tacos were also really good. Facility 5/5 this is a hotspot and next to Majerle's, a very nice part of town. Plenty of seating indoor and out, looked very clean. Service - 2/5 this is where the rating came down. I called 4 times to place a to go order, with the second time being placed on hold for over 10min. All other calls went unanswered. I'd actually say 1.5 stars but will round up to be nice. Finally, When I was able to get through, I ordered tacos to go and the person on the other line had no idea what I was ordering and where on the menu those items are. When I asked for the surf and turf taco, they asked "how did you want your fish fried?" I wasn't sure, but maybe it was noisy and they could not hear, but then again, fish tacos were not anywhere on the menu. I don't know about you, but I always judge a restaurant by the number of people in it and the number of people waiting to go inside the restaurant. The Barrio Queen met all of our expectations. There are so many great things about this restaurant. The patio is gorgeous, the staff is friendly and the specialty margaritas are yummy. However, we were underwhelmed by the FOOD. Met up with friends for our weekly dinner and all six of us thought the food has the worst Mexican food we've had. I'd almost say Taco Bell was on par with this. When the chips came out we didn't eat any of them, they were hard, thick and no salt. The tortilla soup was like a tomato soup out of a can with slight smoky flavor, the shrimp cocktail was like a soupy ceviche but not in a good way, enchiladas were dry and tasteless with barely any cheese or sauce and I had a bone in my chicken. The atmosphere is top notch. The biggest reason for the three stars is that for some reason we got stiffed on the table side guacamole. The food was delicious, I ordered the carne asada burrito, I usually order chicken, so I was hesitant in ordering it, after the first bite, I was taken back, . It's Christmas eve, and we were not looking to cook at all. Been meaning to visit this new location for some time now. Located in the Desert Ridge shopping center in North Phoenix. Have been to the original location in Oldtown Scottsdale, so had an idea with the cuisine and ambiance, and needless to say that the experience was the satisfyingly similar. The ingredients did not disappoint! Of course the chips and salsa came out first. They were steaming and ready to devour. Crispy and crunchy to compliment the homemade salsa. My main meal was the 3 carne asada tacos with chorizo and queso (cheese). My taste buds were awake, and the flavors of the grilled marinated steak mixed with the chorizo were delicious. I appreciated how the street tacos were packed with the steak and chorizo and surprisingly filling. Also a shout out for the service and the latin music playing the background. read more

Do you know how everyone thinks Taco Bell is garbage? At least you know what you're getting when you go to Barrio Queen Desert Ridge. It is the epitome of a place that somehow has a great reputation and then decides "We'll be a fancy Taco Bell at 10X the price." The interior was dirty,the service was mediocre and the food - tasteless and, well, vile. The grilled fish taco had about a tablespoon of fish covered by a mountain of shredded cabbage.When you order food at a restaurant and it shows up 8 minutes later, what does that tell you? It was all pre-cooked, plated, covered with cheese, placed under the broiler and there you go. I would say low grade dog food, but then I would feel sorry for the dogs. On this one, save your $ and find a place that actually still cares. read more

We were seated quickly and although the booth felt a little tight at first... after a tasty margarita for everyone, it felt perfectly cozy!!! Both visits Angel was our server! He was friendly, attentive, efficient & all our orders came out accurately. I highly recommend getting the Pozole Verde it is some of the best I've ever had. They have an awesome selection of margaritas, my favorites is a toss up between the Casa or the El Don. My husband's fav is the El Rey. We've tried this place and Scottsdale area and it was great over there! Was excited to have this so close by, and went there for some tacos and drinks. Their cocktails are good, their tacos are good too. I guess I was disappointed that the Birria queso taco didn't come with the consume which the Scottsdale one did! Service seems to be going down hill. My mother and I had a very bad experience at the Desert Ridge location for lunch on 3/18/2023 (it was not busy at all). This is disappointing because we have always had great service before. Our server was Carl P and once we got our food he never checked on us, not once to see if we needed anything and if our food was okay. To make things even worse we waited and waited and waited and he never came around for us to pay our bill. We had to physically get out of our seat and search the restaurant for him just to be able to pay our bill. When we found him he didn't even apologize he just said where's your table. This was very disappointing as we normally spend birthday celebrations and family meals together at Barrio Queen and have never had an issue before. read more

Regardless of what you may or may not have heard, Desert Ridge is NOT the Barrio but the Barrio Queen is clearly royalty in this neck of the woods. Desert Ridge hit pay dirt when they brought in this gem of a restaurant, such a welcome addition to North Phoenix. I've waited to write this to make sure this wasn't a mirage in the Sonoran Desert of Phoenix. Nope, this a great place. Table-side guacamole is a wonderful way to start your meal. Add the pomegranate seeds? Yes-great way to brighten up the guac. Street Tacos? They must have a couple dozen from which to choose. Along with the usual suspects like carna asado, you'll find raja tacos which are one of my favs with fantastic flavor profiles. The drinks are excellent, no syrups here in the margaritas. They have plenty of different tequilas to choose from and the Happy Hours are lively! The patio and ambiance can't be beat when the Phoenix weather kicks into high gear (Nov-May). They have a terrific Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) and I'm sure Cinco De Mayo is going to be fun also. read more
