We had dinner there two days ago for my father in laws 70th birthday. 1. My daughter was served a taco plate with worms in her food. No kidding - live worms. 2. The manager was devastated and called the GM. They comped us 50% of the meal. Which I thought was crazy, if you find actual worms in your food, that should be full comp with an apology. 3. The server then told us that Barrio Queen management doesn't normally allow them to give anything special for a birthday but this one time they would allow my father in kay to have a small children's churro! I have been to this location several times, and I feel like it's hard to review because there are things I really like and things I do not. I will call this my happy hour review because I do think they have a GREAT happy hour. We came in for lunch and it was not busy. I found the waitstaff attentive and adequate. The restaurant was clean and well cared for and I would imagine it can get loud when crowded. I had the Barrio Bowl, which was a good size and okay. The chicken was dry and rather tough. My husband had a combo plate and liked his better than I did mine, though he stated it wasn't anything special. With prices on the higher side and the food average, we probably wouldn't go back. I absolutely love this place and am only giving it 4 starts because of the wild prices. My go to every time is the nachos chingones because they are creamy with the amount of cheese they use and savory/ salty with the incredibly flavored Chile verde. I will always order 1/2 if I'm by myself or a full if I'm with others but I cannot resist these. Always with a side of salsa. Love the tacos! Usually go for the fried fish or shrimp, Mar y Tierra or seriously any of them you cannot go wrong with. Super flavorful with all of the toppings and combinations. Drinks! My favorite is the who's your daddy or the spicy Diablo. Anything with the infused jalapeño tequila and I'm happy. read more

Hello new lunch go-to! I've been here quite a few times and cannot believe I never noticed their daily specials. I came on a Wednesday and Wednesday's are half priced appetizers. I got the Mexican Shrimp Cocktail and look at that picture! SO MUCH SHRIMP. It was so flavorful and had a little kick to it. I purposely didn't take a "pretty" picture of it because I wanted to show off the quantity. Add music and a patio bar to this dish and drink and you have some great "me time". I had always wanted to try this place and being I was in town for something, I decided this was my chance. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a smile and seated right away. I had the most amazing person waiting on me and had impeccable service with a big smile each time. Thank you Sebastian! You totally ROCK! Normally I would give Barrio Queen a 5/5 as we come here often and to this exact location. The service was HORRIBLE tonight. We knew going into dinner tonight that they were busy and had patience as we waited for a table. We saw group after group get up and leave due to lack of service. We even had someone tell us to sit at the bar in hopes of even getting served. We took the advice and sat at the bar, still a mistake. The bartenders continued to ignored the entire bar except for the 2 guys they knew (ex-coworkers we found out as they were having a conversation loud enough for the entire bar to hear.) most of the people seated at the bar with us had to flag down a bartender to even get their order taken. This nights service left a bad taste in our mouth and we will Probably find another place to spend our money which is sad as we have always been loyal customers and even had parties in the back room here. read more

This was my first time and the service was amazing. The manager herself checked on us and the staff were absolutely great. The food was delicious and I really liked the ambiance. The bartenders were fun and welcoming and made me one delicious pineapple margarita. I definitely will be returning. First time coming here was a decent experience for us but than the follow up visit wasn't so great. The inside was freezing cold, it was cold outside but warmer than inside so we set outside. Our food was delicious that first visit with friendly and quick service. The second visit, the inside wasn't freezing but it was so loud with music, so again we set outside just so we can hear without music blasting you out, the food this time was disappointing, we ordered the same as the first time, why we came back but only it was nothing compared to first visit. Both visits was around same time, shortly after 4pm and it was slow, with group of people at bar inside and a few tables filled outside, so not busy at all, not sure why our last visit was a fail on taste but not sure if we will be back not knowing what we will get. The breaded fish taco and the breaded shrimp taco were delicious. The grilled fish taco was overcooked and smelled/tasted like it was 4-day-old fish. They brought my vegetarian wife her vegetarian enchiladas with steak hidden inside. It took her a few bites to realize that the meat was not an overly cooked vegetable. These were annoying issues. The biggest problem is that it took over 90 minutes from the time of our reservation before they brought us our food. We have kids and this was a rare night out where we were going to hit a fun activity after dinner. That wasn't possible for us after this 2 hour dinner experience. The restaurant did not seem to be super busy so I'm guessing the reason for the interminable delay is to-go orders? Regardless, a reservation for a table at a restaurant should mean something. We were hungry so we placed all of our orders at the same time, we ordered chicken nachos as an appetizer but got pork, we were hungry so we didn't send them back. We should have sent the nachos back because the pork was very salty. I had already ordered a pork, rice and bean dinner. The pork was way too salty, it was not edible, I lost my appetite so I sent it back and only ate the rice, tortillas and beans, beans were also over salted. I didn't want to write this review, but feel they need to make sure the spices are done properly and not to add as much salt to their food. The rest of the food my family ordered was ok. This was a good place to go to, but I don't think I'll be back anytime soon. read more

We expected a 35-minute wait for two people on a Friday night, which was fine, but unfortunately, the food was just okay. The drinks were amazing, definitely the highlight of the night, but the food didn't deliver. We ordered the carne asada torta and the carne asada tacos, and the meat didn't taste like carne asada at all. The tacos didn't come with rice, beans, or any sides, which was a little disappointing. We finished both of our margaritas before our food even arrived, as service was very slow. Overall, while the drinks were great, the food just wasn't worth it. I have been to several locations and they are all great but the location in QC Marketplace is by far my favorite. The ambiance is always fun and upbeat, the outside seating is nice and even with the parking lot and passerby's, you barely even notice it (also makes for a quick exit to your vehicle when the time comes) and the FOOD?! I have yet to have anything I didn't like. I always order the table side guac if the season is right. I love that they will not serve it if the avocados aren't ripe. And when it comes to service, Morgan is hands down my favorite person! We try to only go when she's working because she puts such a smile on our face, is very sweet and incredible attentive.
