Fantastic food! My favorite is the pork belly taco! They are tapas, meaning small plates so if you're hungry order 3 or 4! Definitely a place to try, the atmosphere is cozy and the staff is great! Most of the bad reviews for this restaurant are service oriented and I must say I concur. Although I do not fault the servers themselves. Our server and all of those that helped us were very nice. The system they use to order food is totally a waste of good servers. They ask that you fill out a card with your order and they bring the food as it is prepared. The deliveries were so spaced out that everyone finished eating by the time my wife got her food. They also brought out a couple of incorrect dishes, which defeats the purpose of writing down your own order. As others have complained about, our drinks took about 15 minutes to arrive which is way too slow if they plan on making any money on drinks. I would have ordered another if it didn't take so long. The guacamole was good, but other than that out food was mediocre. They put apt of spice on everything which is fine by me, but that is all of the flavor that you taste. I had 3 tacos and all three had the same fire. The redeeming quality was the space itself. Open air, good atmosphere, and decor. I would go back for drinks, but would sit at the bar to shorten the length of time I have to wait for a drink. I would not go back for the food. It was not bad, but there are many other good Mexican restaurants. read more

Food is good but not worth the hassle. We waited 15 min. For a drink. We had 8 people but we were told they won't separate the bill. Food came out at all different times and one person got the wrong thing and didn't get the correct thing until the others were finished eating. When it was time for the bill we separated the bill for her and she sill got it wrong. Great atmosphere, good food, excellent organic margaritas, and phenomenal staff! The bartender make each margarita fresh and are so fast. They get your drink twice as fast as a lot of places with pre-mixed drinks. Portabella mushroom taco and pork belly tacos are the best. Guacamole is fresh and tasty. Outside seating by the fire place is very relaxing. It's a popular spot so if you can't book ahead, don't plan to get a spot (unfortunately). My wife and I went to this bar taco on a Sunday evening and had the best experience! The manager, Travis, greeted us at the door and made us feel so welcome. My wife has a food allergy and he went out of his way to make sure she could have a good meal - and we certainly did! We had some of the best tacos we've ever had in the Atlanta area, and the guacamole was over the top! All the staff was amazing. We really loved it and we will certainly be back. Oyster Taco's are to die for, I can eat 10 along with my pitcher of Sangaria. They may need to work on the Guacamole other than that I am all in. read more

This is the best Mexican restaurant in Atlanta. Every morsel is full of flavor and not greasy. We realized that as we were driving home, none of the food had cheese in it, yet it was amazing. My watermelon muddled margarita was delish. The tacos are tapas style. Our favorites tonight were the sesame ribeye taco, the mushroom mole tamales, and the pork tamales. I don't usually write reviews but I feel that what I saw here needed to be addressed. I ate here on the patio Sunday, August 9th. Food was good, our service was good, management was terrible. A couple of girls came to sit on the patio and the servers were in the outdoor cubby where they enter orders and don't have a good view of the outdoor dining area. They seemed to be prepping for closing as it was late and pretty slow; we were one of few tables. They apparently didn't see the two girls that came and sat on the patio and after a few minutes the girls got up and left. I can see how this would be frustrating and they needed to pay more attention. However, someone who appeared to be the manager (a young woman with dark hair, not in bartaco uniform) came outside and yelled at the servers about how messy the patio was. She was quite loud and making a scene so we couldn't help but watch. Then she asked them where the two girls were that had been sitting there. At the time, she had a large amount of trash in her hands that she had picked up off a table. The servers didn't seem to know what she was talking about and she immediately said "are you f****** kidding me?" and threw the trash down all over the ground and ran out into the parking lot trying to chase the girls who had left. (She did not catch them) She then stormed back into the restaurant and seemed to gather every server in the building right there in the middle of the dining room for a meeting. It was quite clear she was angry but I think the situation was handled very unprofessionally and made us feel not only sorry for the poor servers who had made a simple mistake but also made us pretty uncomfortable. Had dinner here last night and I think this place is a restaurant that you visit if you want something light to eat and a drink just to be social. I didn't care for the tacos because I don't like corn tortillas... they always fall apart on me. The value isn't really there either. The drinks are good and crafted well but are a tad on the weak side. I've been here several times and the service is always attentive but kinda seems a little chaotic and un organized. I thought they had a beach theme where everything is supposed to be chill and relax? I feel like they allow too many people in the building sometimes to where everyone else has to suffer. I get it.. business right? But at what cost do you make service suffer to provide a few drinks to people who have to wait 15 mins to get a drink and the staff can't even move through the dining room to provide service. Couple hundred bucks more to make everyone else have to "deal with it." read more

Great atmosphere, and a neat patio. Between the do-it-yourself ordering system and the small portion sizes, I'd describe this as the mexican-fusion version of sushi. Everything I tried on two visits was delicious (curry shrimp rice bowl, chorizo taco, baja fish taco, jalapeno slaw, guacamole), and 75% of the menu is gluten-free. Sangria was delicious. So, why only three stars? First, the do-it-yourself ordering system ends up providing lousy service. Every time I need my water glass refilled, I have to put up the little blue card and then, when the waitress arrives, stop my conversation and explain I need more water, which she then has to go get. At some point, it would be easier for them just to refill water as needed, like a "regular" server. And, because they have food runners bring your food, the waitress did not notice that, while the first round of tacos we ordered came in about 15 minutes, the second round did not come until we asked about them 30 minutes later. Second, there is no description on the menu about any of the food. There is a baja fish taco and a veracruz fish taco. Period. No indication that one is fried and one is grilled. No indication of what fish is used (one is perch and one is cod, we were told). No description of sauce, toppings, etc. I think my next visit will be easier now that I am a little more familiar with the food, or I may just get takeout and avoid the non-service service. read more

I had a horrible experience tonight. My first visit to bar taco was last week when my manager treated me for my birthday. We met for lunch at bartaco West Midtown. The food was amazing. We had fried oyster and pork belly tacos. Everything was hot when it was served and the oysters were delicious. The pork belly was cut into small cubes and it was tender and flavorful. Not such a pleasant experience tonight. I choose to dine at the Chastain Park location. When I ordered the oyster tacos the waitress said she thought they were out of oysters but she would check. She confirmed that they had some so I ordered two oyster tacos and one pork belly. The oyster tacos had less than half the number of oysters as the ones I had last week. The tortilla was cold/tough and I got something other than pork belly. Why would you even serve an oyster taco with 2 little oysters? When they corrected the order, they brought me the pork belly tacos and it had these big chunks of flavorless meat. Even though the oyster tacos were comped, the meal was cheap and disgusting. I guess if you come after 7pm you get served slop! Very disappointed! read more

Tonight I had my second experience at bartaco chastain park. My first experience was mediocre so I decided to give them another try. I arrived around 1030 and the restaurant was empty except for two other parties at the bar. The male bartender working tonight was rude when I asked for a drink suggestion almost as if my question was bothering him. The atmosphere of this restaurant is trendy and romantic. The food is served tapas style and you check off on a card what you want to eat and the server just rings it in, it feels somewhat impersonal. The guacamole was average and the tamales were dry. The ceviche is extremely bland and the plantains were undercooked. The pork belly taco was flavorful and the perfect bite. I am of Hispanic descent and found it extremely odd that the ribeye tacos have jicama in them? I wish the menu had descriptions so I could have had a better idea of what I was ordering. While cashing out bartender ran my card and took it with him and proceeded to help other guests, so I had to wave down another bartender to get my card back. After I let her know that I needed my card back she rudely replied saying that he wouldn't have ran my card then kept it, he would have handed it back to me right away that I needed to look for my card. After insisting that I didn't have it she finally asked him if he had my card and he pulled it out of his shirt pocket. The service here is less than up to standard for the prices you are paying and the neighborhood you are in. There are too many other great Mexican restaurants close by for me to ever go back here. The service style is strange and uncomfortable. You seem to have one server but everyone seems responsible for bringing you stuff and he seemed confused when our drinks and part of our meal had not come out in a timely fashion. It was just unorganized and made no sense. They had a host stand yet employees told people to sit where ever they wanted and let people wonder around the restaurant like idiots. The food, while at first seems like a good deal, comes in small, underwhelming portions. The taste wasnt there either. They only have salsa verde, and the chips where actually giant fried corn tortillas you have to break apart. You fill out a card with the food items you want to order. When I had a question about the chicken soup, not one, but two different employees gave me a wrong description. I guess since they arent taking orders they dont think they need to know about their menu. Also, dont order a soda, because youll get a tiny 8 oz glass bottle and no refills for 2.50. read more

If you are looking for a large meal to fill you up do not come here. However, if you are fine with smaller portions then this is a good place. I ordered the lunch tray and got three chicken tacos with the chicken soup and plantains. The chicken was very succulent and flavorful, but again each taco is supposed to be a two-bite taco. The chicken soup shocked me and was actually my favorite part of the meal. It was stuffed with large pieces of shredded chicken, pieces of potato, and even corn. The soup was spicy and flavorful and tasted very authentic. The plantains were also wonderful as a sweet and salty element to the meal. The reason for three stars was really the service and the portions. It took a long time to get lunch when it was not crowded and i asked for a spoon for my soup when my meal arrived and it took 12 minutes to just get a spoon so by the time it arrived my soup was barely warm. read more

A friend and I tried this place for the first time the other day, the first thing we see as we walk in to get a table are about 4 employees standing at the hostess stand with their Starbucks drinks everywhere just chatting away, they took their time to finally look at us with boredom and take us to a table. They obviously tried to go out of there way to hire what they deemed "attractive" employees that all wore heavy makeup and the ones we interacted with had stuck up bad attitudes. The place is cute, our waitress explains how they do things here. There are multiple confusing sheets of paper with menu items, basically (what they say is, 'it's like filling out a sheet for sushi' um ok why?) you mark on one sheet what everyone wants, I felt like I was playing put-put golf. They bring everything out on one tin sheet which is annoying when you have multiple people and are trying to figure out what is what, and who is who's. The menu was very limited, pretty expensive drinks which is typical for buckhead. I was excited for the $2-4 tacos, but good lord they were small as crap! Yeah the pork belly taco was good, but you literally only get 3 baby pieces of meat on it! You also have to pay for "chips" and salsa, yeah it's one of those places... (chips being the reject hockey puck hard taco shells you have to break apart yourself, I'm surprised I didn't get a ridiculous tiny mallet to do this). And the nail in the coffin, no queso. Our waitress was nice at first, but then was no where to be seen after our food was served, and was definitely over serving us when we finally got our checks. I know this is buckhead, and this place is trying to stand out from the other taco places very close by, but I'd rather eat at a sketchy taco dive in a dark alley than this place again. read more

it is visually delicious. the food was alright. not worth the very high price for the maybe 4 in diameter taco. the staff was very slow, 4 min from seating to first order. i went within 1 month of opening so maybe i have to try it again. i feel it was more of a visual experience which cost too much for someone like me. i would not recommend it. read more
