What lovely ambiance! Great service, very warm and welcoming. We ate brunch here on a bustling Sunday. Were a bit disappointed in the food. Poached eggs with duck confit was tasty. Perfectly poached eggs were offset by teeny tiny portion of room temp-cool hash. Chicken sandwich contained too much bread vs chicken. Accompanying fries were cool, not hot. Dutch baby (a crepe/pancake/french toast served in a hot skillet) was delicious but left you feeling like you need something else to eat. (We are not the types to need massive American portions to feel full but hey might want to consider upping portions a wee tad, offering some bread for the table? Brought a loaf of bread home (a plain baguette) which was good enough not superb. The 3 meals noted above, 2 coffees and one bottle of strawberry lemondade.....$78 including tip. Kinda pricey especially for the skimpy portions. I would return to sample the bakery offerings, perhaps not to invest in brunch again. read more

Such a beautiful cafe, and the owner and employees are all very warm and welcoming. Stumbled in here for tea and some baked goods after having breakfast nearby, and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Their tea selection is wonderful, and their rosewater muffin is delectable. Super cute, low-key bakery and kitchen with lovely outdoor seating (shaded tables, picnic tables, even badminton during the summer)! Bartlett House has also established an easy online ordering system for quick pickups in-store. Their lattes, turkey and avocado sandwich, and avocado toast (although tricky to eat without it falling apart!) have become our new routine. The milkshake bar also offers some fun flavors (bourbon vanilla, Japanese matcha), but we have yet to try them out. Our only regret is that Bartlett House no longer offers dinner! read more

Delicious food. Service was great. No soda fountain, so be prepared for that if you're a soda drinker. Outside seating was beautiful. I got the burger- very tasty. The garden area in front of the restaurant is well designed and sumptuous, unfortunately the dining room is not. More disappointing is the food and service. Our waitress forgot too many things like spoons and failed to watch her tables for requests for utensils and picking up the check. The mesclun greens on many items were old, broken down to mushy black bits and should have been discarded by the cook. The food we ordered was mediocre at best and a pastry for dessert was stale. The coffee was old, bitter and tasted burned. A special coffee, at a higher price, made to order was suggested as a replacement. It was better. Perhaps the attractive bakery bar has a better product. Breads or sweets might be the way to go here. Dinner, a few months ago, was worse (due to bad judgment on the part of the chef) than this lunch, but we thought we'd give the restaurant another chance. That won't happen again. read more

This review is based in product alone, not location as I have yet to visit the location. I was gifted yesterday with two of the most amazingly wonderful orange shortbreads I have ever experienced in my life! Substantial in size, yet delicate and perfect in every other imaginable way...they melted sweetly in my mouth with the distinct sharpness of the orange zest on the tongue. Simply marvelous! As a resident of Albany I had not heard of The Bartlett House until yesterday. Based on what I experienced in their shortbread, I will now be making the pilgrimage to Ghent to experience it fully for myself. read more

Came in for brunch, the seating area outside was really beautiful. Ordered the green shakshuka, the mushroom melt tartine, a farmers breakfast, and a duck breast panini. The green shakshuka was great, really flavorful and filling. The mushroom melt was good, a little more seasoning would've made it better. The farmers breakfast had really crispy bacon, a little too charred for my liking. We asked for jam, and it came in a thimble sized container. For a place that sells jam, we expected a lot more. The duck breast panini might have been a chicken sandwich, we're not sure. It was really good but we ordered duck. We also got the rose lemonade which also came in a glass just a smidge bigger than a shot glass, again why so stingy? Also did not taste like rose, that was plain lemonade. Overall, Bartlett House was a fine brunch but , for a place so expensive it should've been better. read more

A bit pretentious, food adequate but not special, somewhat overpriced, two dollar signs understates the cost. Service quite mediocre, waitstaff not attentive, five staffers went past our table multiple times and none of them noticed there was no silverware or napkins on the table. Eggs were served lukewarm and under cooked. One waiter was going to get pepper flakes for us but it turned out that he didn't know that they didn't have pepper flakes. read more

There is a take-out for bread and pastry items with a full coffee and espresso service. Wine, beer, and cider is carefully curated. I had the breakfast sandwich and it was amazing! Their chicken sausage is incredible as well. A must visit if you are in the area.

The service was sub par and the prices were a bit high. Perhaps it was because they were so busy, but we wound up just going up to the counter to order pastries for the table because the server took so long to get to our table! I would be willing to give it another try, but perhaps only when I have a little extra money.....the food was very good, but again it was just the service and the prices that threw us off a bit! read more

The burger was gross and I regret eating it. I only ate it to be polite to the people paying for the meal. It was bright red room temperature meat, at its best had no flavor, but most bites tasted like charcoal and mayonnaise. It came with shoestring fries that tasted like extra salt. You could not pay me the $18.50 it cost to eat that plate of food again. Everybody else's food was superb (fish and chicken). The bread is made on site, judging by all the proofing baskets, and it's really perfect stuff. Waitstaff is kind, cheery and helpful. The ambiance of the old place is great. Just don't order the burger, it's an embarrassing offering in a place that clearly values quality food. read more

Food is decent but expensive. Mimosas are super expensive, they're good but not THAT good. I'd have given it three stars if the service was good, but it was amateur hour. Honestly if I could give this place no stars I would. I live in the area and love so many of the restaurants but when you go to a place for brunch when there is literally no one there and end up waiting 2 hours for food, that's just unacceptable. Our waitress blamed the kitchen and gave us two croissants (there were four of us) and then proceeded to just say sorry and blame the kitchen. To add insult to injury my simple eggs in a skillet was essentially just a cup of cheese over an over cooked egg. Will not be going back. read more

This is the coziest little spot in the Chatham area!! The outside garden is absolutely lush and full of butterflies. The food is spectacular (get the chicken sandwich!!! We had a lovely dinner at the Bartlett House last week. When I made the reservation, I explained we needed extra space to accommodate a stroller for our baby. We arrived, and they had us at a lovely table with extra space. The wine was wonderful, our sever recommended the perfect glass. The food was awesome; we all cleared our plates. Desserts were rich and flavorful! The chocolate trio has something to please every chocolate lover out there. For those noteworthy occasions in life, we will go to the Bartlett house to celebrate. read more

The Bartlett house has been vacant for a while. Everybody in the area was impressed with the changes we all saw with the ongoing construction. But a building is a building and if what is inside doesn't meet up then it's just another pretty face. I am very impressed with the food and the people at the Bartlett house. Unbelievable baked goods, fantastic coffee, and great breakfast and lunch dishes. All served by super nice friendly people. The owners are very accommodating and friendly and it carries through to the employees. A lift is provided for people who can't negotiate the front stairs. As I told a hesitant customer in the parking lot "Yes, you should go in!" My wife and I just had dinner at the Bartlett house four months after my first review. This is their first night doing dinners and we were very pleased! We started with the Butternut Squash soup and kohlrabi salad. Both delicious! My wife got the trout. A whole fish that was de-boned and served with Bok Choy and potatoes. Served in a skillet. She described it as "exquisite!" I got the 1/2 chicken served with Kale and two pieces of toast. This was the best chicken I have ever eaten! Brined for 24 hours and cooked in a skillet with fantastic herbs made it juicy and very flavorful. Unbelievable. Dessert was a cranberry tart and a pear dish which name eludes me. Both excellent! Both not overly sweet. As usual the service was great and super super friendly. These people love what they do and take pride in it. It shows. read more

We were a group of four for dinner. We had called for reservations, told they could not take anymore but we should be able to be seated. Upon arrival the hostess offered us a table on the balcony, which was lovely but noisy from the road. I asked if we could wait for an inside table. She immediately offered us a table in the back of the retail section, telling us there were multiple reservations coming after 7 but she would seat us there. We definitely felt pressure to be quick. We waited quite some time for waitstaff to approach us. We started worrying that we would be holding up someone with a reservation. We actually offered to move outside if it got too close to the time needed for those alleged reserved tables (this took awhile to communicate as very few waitstaff came by at all). Out of the 5 or six tables in this area no one else was seated the entire time we were there. Waitstaff consistently ignored us, those that worked at the retail counter or walked through the area avoided eye contact with us. When someone did come over to talk to us or answer our questions they made us feel as if we were a nuisance. While the food was good, servings were small. The atmosphere was pretentious. Ironically, I had been in Paris the week before and felt I had better service and experiences for all my dinners there. read more
