I had recently been looking for a good New York style pizza place close to home in Roscoe Village. My girlfriend and I happened to walk by Bartoli's while out and about and made a mental note of it. On our way back home we decided to stop in for a slice and we couldn't have been happier that we did. The pizza, a thin slice of cheese and a thin slice of pepperoni, was exactly what we had expected; no nonsense, thin, crispy crust, and fold-able. What was a little unexpected was the service. We didn't expect anything special from a quick "pizza by the slice" type of place but we were pleasantly surprised. We had fantastic service from beginning to end of our visit and were especially impressed by what we assumed was the young son of an owner or employee. It was an absolute pleasure to receive his help whether it was napkins, parmesan cheese and spices, and clearing our table when we were done. This was exactly the kind of place we were looking for; local, friendly, and good food. We'll be back, and we'll be back often. read more

We tried their pizza for the first time tonight. The ingredients were fresh and it was overall tasty, though I did think the crust of the deep dish was a little dense (tried one slice in addition to the thin crust). The delivery was on time, but went to the wrong location (the girl who took the call wrote our address down wrong). I think they'd greatly benefit from an online delivery service for accuracy's sake. I am a Chicago guy -- and I love Lou Malnati's -- but I have to say Bartoli's flavor and pizza is just as good, if not better! When I asked about why it's so good, they told me the owner spent years perfecting his recipe prior to even opening Bartoli's Pizzeria. I also love taking my family here because it's a fun, family friendly atmosphere. The ownership is usually there, so I also feel like the service is at a higher level than your typical restaurant. Is the deep dish always soupy? I don't think it was our choice of toppings. We got mushroom, canadian bacon, and green onions and the toppings with the sauce was falling off and soupy. The green peppers were horrible and had a weird taste to them. The only part of it that I enjoyed was the crust. I have not been disappointed in Bartoli's pizza delivery. The pizza's are excellent. Both deep dish and thin crust are crispy and delicious. The sauce is a little on the sweeter side, but I enjoy that and their pies are usually pretty saucy, which I also enjoy. The first time we got delivery, the owner brought us our pizza because he was trying to keep the delivery time down. He wasn't boastful about who he was - but it came up in his kind conversation with my husband. One word: AMAZING. After biking 24 miles in the city, we needed to end the city right and enjoy some Chicago deep dish. We wanted to try something new and Bertoli's was close by. We got a deep dish AND a thin crust. Both so tasty, sauce is so delicious and spinach and sausage was so great. Fresh basil too on margarita pizza. I would 100% recommend this. You can order out or dine in! It's small and cute inside and was a perfect dinner, if not better than Lou Malnatis or any other pizza place. This place was truly out of this world. I ordered (for delivery) a deep dish pizza with spinach and pepperoni, but the pizza that arrived was so soggy that I actually poured liquid out of the box before attempting to take a slice. After removing a soggy slice, I noticed the cardboard underneath was almost entirely soaked through, and a few minutes later it had completely soaked through the whole bottom of the box. I tried to eat a few slices, but the only part that was edible was the crust. Maybe this pizza would have been delicious in the restaurant, but I definitely would not recommend ordering a deep dish pizza from Bartoli's for delivery. I called in an order from here, and my husband signed for it when it was delivered. The driver had him sign the customer copy and didn't give us a copy of the receipt. When I checked our credit card statement, it showed a higher amount than my husband signed for. I called to complain, and they sent me a copy of the forged receipt they had on file -- the driver had written in his own (higher) tip on the merchant copy and forged *my* signature (my name was on the order, even though I didn't actually sign for it). After some back-and-forth with the dubious owner, he agreed to refund only the tip amount, despite the fact that what his driver did is actually a felony. Bartoli's is a neighborhood staple. Very good pizza, extensive menu and friendly staff. Top menu pick: the badger-style fried cheese balls. Fiance likes the Italian beef sandwich. We tend to switch around our pizza places frequently, but I can't stay away from the cheese balls. As for Bartoli's pizza - it's good. The deep dish doesn't trump Lou Malnati's though, so I'll pick theirs every time if I'm not in a hurry. From Bartoli's I prefer the thin crust. read more

I didn't order a pizza but last night it was a very fast delivery! If it was supposed to be 30-45 mins, I got it no more than 15 minutes later. I ordered: buffalo wings, a salad and an Italian beef. Overall, the sandwich was great I also got waffle fries which were awesome. Haven't eaten the salad yet but it looks good, fancy cheese, good size croutons for a large portion. I guess I should have tipped more on my card knowing it would be so fast. The delivery guy seemed like he worked hard, so fear not Bartoli's, I'll hook you guys up in the future. I can't say enough about this place. I had the Italian Chicken Wings. They were to die for. Very similar to Greek Style Chicken. The best was the carmelized onions they put on top of the wings. It was nice to eat a different style of wings instead of the ordinary Chicken Wings. They melted in your mouth. The Sausage Deep Dish was delicious, and the Beef sandwich on Garlic Bread with melted Mozzarella was extremely flavorful, and the beef melted in your mouth. It's a small cozy place with awesome décor. I will definitely be coming back to try the rest of the menu. I would give this place 10 stars if I could. read more

Very disappointed, $41.00 for 3 pizza burgers and desert. The burgers were the sorriest looking things I've ever seen. My wife picked these up for dinner. The burgers looked like someone was attempting to make these pancakes. The buns were smashed flat, and the meat was nothing more than mediocre. The waffle fries (or whatever you call these) were balled up together like ping pong balls and had to be cut in half to even eat. Nothing like eating fried up potato balls that have absolutely no flavor. Last but not least the desert was frozen (not fresh) had to leave that sit for 40 minutes before it could be eaten. My brothers and I were visiting from Arizona. We are originally from Chicago. I was searching for a good Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza. I was not disappointed. This pizza was unbelievably delicious. We got the Chicago Stockyard. OMG, it was full of meat and ingredients. I could not make it through my second piece it was so filling. Good pizza and the Bears playing on the big screen TV. To say this is a great new pizza place in Wrigleyville is an understatement! A must for all to try! Start with the Italian style wings, those were a hit for my husband, the kids, and myself! Great fries, which is hard to find!! Tossed about which pizza was best because the deep dish was AWESOME, but so was the thin crust! We ordered one deep dish with sausage, mushroom, onion and black olives and one thin crust with Italian beef and hot gardiniera----DELICIOUS!! One of my kids did not even like deep dish before trying this one, nuff said! What made the thin crust even better was the fact that with beef and the hot peppers usually it is very greasy everywhere we order from....NOT this one! This was so flavorful and NO GREASY MESS!! We had a great meal and a great time at Bartoli's Pizzeria! The Italian Chicken wings were to die for! Carmelized onions, garlic-lemon-oregano flavors. The meatball sandwich was also terrific. Handmade meatballs and delicious sauce topped it. We tried both thin and deep dish and the kids gave rousing reviews. They had coloring books and crayons and high chairs for the kids. The owner was present and made us feel very welcome. It's a small, cozy dining area with much attention to décor detail. Ask about some of the reclaimed wood items or the exposed brick wall with reclaimed Chicago Co Brick. Really neat! read more

Finally, Really good pizza has arrived in Roscoe Village! After suffering in Pizza Hell for years, we now have a pizza go - to place that can be recommended to any pizza snob from in or out of town! It seems that the roots of this place are in deep dish pizza, but I am a thin pizza guy and this is one of the best I have found!! Crust is cracker thin and crisp. Ingredients are fresh and the taste of each one comes through. It arrived in 20 minutes, piping hot. I have been ordering everywhere around here for years - and this is the best so far. I really like the pizza at Bartoli's! We just live down the block and love how convenient it is! My issue is with the staff. We have gone in twice, both times later in the evening. The first time we went in around 1045pm and wanted to order a pizza. They wouldn't allow us to order the full pizza and we ended up walking away with slices, because we were hungry. We decided it give it another try late on a Saturday. The restaurants listed hours are til 12:00am. We walked in at 11:34pm and the very rude server snapped at us "we stop taking orders at 11:30pm." If that is the case then the hours should be listed accordingly and the staff could improve on their customer service. read more

This place just opened up a few weeks ago just down the street from our condo - and it will now be our new go-to pizza place! So far we've tried the Italian chicken wings (excellent) and the deep dish built-your-own pizza. The pizza was amazing!!! The crust was by the far one of the best I've ever had, which is a crucial component for me. Both the husband and I agree that the pizza is the best we've had in Chicago, and that's saying a lot. We have now been to Bartoli's twice, and each time I have been astounded that I have now found a deep dish pizza that I like better than Lou's. Our first visit was with a group and we had their wings which were really excellent. We also had a thin crust pizza and a deep dish. The thin crust was really good and the deep dish is good beyond description. What is so great about it? First of all, the crust. Many deep dish pizzas tend to be soggy on the bottom and overly bready and heavy on the top. Not at Bartoli's! The bottom was thin and well cooked, and the top of the crust was like eating a piece of freshly baked thin bread. With some deep dish pizzas I will leave the top crust behind; with Bartoli's, I inhaled it. Second, the sauce. It's not too thick yet not runny, just the right consistency. It is a great combination of sweetness and spiciness, and goes really well with the crust. Third of course is the cheese. It's a really nice tasting cheese mixture that seems to pull everything together. Just the right amount also; not oozing with cheese, but not leaving you feel like "where is the cheese?". On our second visit we had a large deep dish with sausage and onion. It was absolutely fabulous! As other reviewers have mentioned, this is a BYOB. They do have a bottle opener/corkscrew and some plastic cups available but if you want more fancy glassware, that should be BYO also. They seem to do a very healthy carryout and delivery business, and the dining room is pleasant, but fairly small. Both of our experiences were dining in the restaurant as the pizza came right out of the oven. I have no knowledge of how well the pizza translates when picked up or delivered. I know that they encourage people who order for pickup or delivery to get the pizza uncut to try and preserve the crispness of the bottom crust. The owner, Brian, stopped at our table and chatted for a while. Really nice guy, and related to the founder of Gino's. This pizza is not a Gino's knockoff, rather it is something that Brian has created through testing and experimentation. I'm sure his pizza genealogy has helped him in creating a wonderful product.
