From Ohio, visited the city in mid-January, and found Bartoli's in a search. We visited the Roscoe Village location and it was homey and cozy as you'd hope a great pizza place would be! We indulged in the deep-dish "The Union Stockyard" pizza. OMG it did not disappoint! The garlic bread was excellent as well as the fried cheeseballs! Service was great! Easy to find with on street parking. I highly recommend adding this to your list! read more

Was looking for a new pizza spot to try out in Chicago on a hard rainy day and gave this little store front a try...So happy I did...Everything was good...From the friendly and helpful waitstaff to the amazing southwestern salad to the delicious thin crust pizza...I did notice everyone around me was doing deep dish crust and I'm sure that is the specialty here because it looks mindblowing...I just wasn't in the mood for lasagna on crust...But this looks to be a FIVE STAR deep dish joint...Keep that in mind! Bartoli's is one of the best restaurants for Chicago-style pizza. It's BYOB too. I was really impressed with their pizza sauce. It tastes homemade and as if it was simmering for hours; it offered the perfect balance of sweet and savory. They've also mastered the deep dish pizza. It's rich and oozing with sauce and cheese, while avoiding the pitfalls of being too heavy or doughy. The crust is also light and buttery. Ordered a thin crus pizza with italian beef and giardineira, well done, and uncut for delivery. The pizza did come uncut which is clutch for keeping delivery pizza from getting too greasy. It looked well done at first, but alas the bottom was still doughy and floppy and not the nice crispy crust you want from Chicago style thin crust. Stopped by for a pizza pickup after a Cub's game. The employees were not friendly which is different from other reviews. The pizza didn't meet the expectation for a thin crust as the crust was doughy and sauce was heavy and a little bitter. Listed as 1 of Chicago's Best Eats for Deep Dish Pizza is what prompted us to drive past several other chains in the downtown Chicago to the suburbs of Addison for Bartoli's. While I easily see how they ranked as #1 I would say buyer beware; prior to ordering I prefaced with the host/cashier that this was our first time in both Chicago as well as Bartoli's, and did she have any suggestions to which she said just order what you like. Not wanting to assume the worst I took it to mean that everything on the menu was good. My husband and I ordered the med (serves 3) Union Stockyard and a drink $32.00 Reasonable price for a party of 2 on a Friday night. The other half of our party (3 ppl.) proceeded to order the same Union Stockyard (Med) plus an additional (Med which is the smallest you can order besides a single slice) Chicken w/ Spinach Pizza b/c somehow the cashier said they didn't have cheese "ready" to make cheese pizza so you could order by the slice; as well a grilled chicken sandwich plus and order of hot wings as an appetizer ($82.00) since each deep dish takes 20min. It wasn't until mine and my husbands pizza came out that the other half of our party realized they had ordered way too much food. While I understand times have been hard for many businesses over the past 20 months (I can't say if that has been the case for Bartoli's) it was a little off-putting that the host/cashier wouldn't have mentioned that they may have ordered too much food. Ordered pizza and wings for the first time from here for a last minute dinner run and really enjoyed it. We had the cheese thin crust pizza, truffle fries, and Buffalo wings. Although the fries were a bit on the stale/ dry side (which is normal for takeout fries) the pizza and wings definitely made up for it. We live in East Avondale, and Bartoli's is solidly reliable in their delivery such that they are in our usual rotation of pizza delivery options. The preferred pizza style is Chicago thin crust; it is especially crispy, but still firm enough to support the solid heaping of cheese and toppings. We always get the special with onions and green peppers, because they are cut in large long thin slices - no dicing here. The sausage is also good. Give them a try! read more

For a slice-on-the-go type of place, their dining room is probably one of the more homely feeling, though warm and comfortable. I've grabbed slices and relaxed a bit before heading back on the road. I didn't feel rushed or pushed out the door. Alike the feeling of the environment so is their approach to serving their customer. At least in my few experiences. Their pizza is hearty and rich in flavor. I'm not sure which of their pizzas I appreciate most, whether deep or thin. But it's tasty and I dig the price. I've always ordered slices and never had the chance (yet) to order full pies. I feel as though because of that reason I've navigated away from the possibilities of soggy slices. Brought our out of town friends here for their first experience with deep dish pizza. It's definitely more of a carry out place than a sit down restaurant. They do have some tables inside and outside. We sat outside which was pleasant but a little challenging logistically when the drinks are self serve inside and the doors both open in so it's hard to navigate when your hands are full. The ice maker wasn't working which was a bummer on a hot day. Even eating in everything was disposable (plates, silverware, cups). Kind of hard to eat deep dish with a plastic knife! As for the pizza, it's ok. We had both a thin crust pepperoni and the deep dish cheese and spinach. The crust on the deep dish was very good and the cheese was super melty. The thin crust was pretty standard while it was hot but didn't make for great cold left overs. All in all, it's ok. It's kind of far from my house so I likely won't make the trip again. But, if I lived in the neighborhood or someone invites me out, I'd give it another shot. read more

This review is based on both a delivery and in person dining at the Addison street location. The delivery arrived on time as promised and the pizza was hot and delicious. Got a sausage, onion and pepperoni. Crust was crunchy and the thin crust held up well to the sauce, cheese and other ingredients. The middle got a little soggy but overall very good. I really like their sausage, good chunks and the onion had some good crunch. Ordering was no problem. I ended up calling becauseI was so close to closing time but the guys were really nice about it and said no issue. So service as great. As far as in person dining, the room is pretty spartan. Almost an afterthought but the food - the pizza - was great as always. In fact no issue with any sogginess since the pie came out of the oven and right to us. The pizza was good but I received an overdraft fee because they are dishonest , someone wrote a tip in for $5.06 pizza came to $35.06. there was a discrepancy and I never received an apology or my $37.00 for an overdraft fee that they caused. I spoke to the manager and she was rude and very nasty towards me, then I spoke to the owner who refused to listen to me. When the pizza was delivered I owed $5.00 in cash but I didn't have it an asked that it be taken from my account. Instead, they took $10 and cost me a $37 overdraft fee and refuse to pay it. in addition, someone wrote in a $5.06 tip on the receipt. The hand writing was close but not mines. The total should've been $40.06 on the receipt not $35.06 someone's deceptive practice cost me $37 and the owner refused to pay it. I explained to him that I did not write that tip in and that the driver had gave me his Zell information to send his tip and I was told that I was lying but I had the drivers name and his zell info. I sent him $10 but he said he didn't get it. I feel racially profiled and I'm out of $37.00 When people are lying they get mad! I will never order another pizza from this place. read more

This has become my go-to place for deep dish in Chicago. A couple of warnings: 1) this is a true deep dish and it will take 30-40 minutes to cook, so if you are hungry you should call ahead so it will be ready when you get there. 2) if you order the medium it should feed 4 people. There are six slices and you should not expect to eat more than two slices if you are really hungry. 3) it is best as an eat in pizza. I have had it to go, but if you take it home you should immediately take it out of the box so it doesn't stick to the box later. If you just stick the pizza in the fridge while still in the box you might be eating cardboard with your leftover pizza. These are all the warnings for which should apply to a deep dish pie, but if you have not been eating deep dish you might need a reminder. read more

5-6 total orders; once deep dish, the rest thin. None w/ meat as a topping, always carry-out. But for the deep dish spinach & cheese, this could be 3.4-3.5 nearing the bump. Deep dish was only a ~2.0, so overall it's really entrenched as a 3. This is a well run operation, always ready on time, no ambiguities arise when placing the order. This feeling of reliability and consistency is almost taken too far in that the interior and brief pick-up experience comes off as sterile (through no fault of the employees, who seem efficient w/out a negative attitude). The lack of character in the décor (keeping in mind they are BYOB and carry-out/delivery driven) ironically/subconsciously seeps into the pizza. The thin crust is good (pic is of green pepper+mushroom), but nothing jumps out. The price is where it should be given upper middle-class location, and the hours are good (although not open for lunch weekdays, I'll gladly trade for that 10-11p hour). It's reliable and good to have in the rolodex, but will most likely come to mind based off availability rather than specific craving. read more
