I came here with a friend on someone else's recommendation and absolutely loved it! When we arrive for dinner at 6 PM on a Wednesday night, it was really busy inside, but we were promptly seated at a table. It looked like an upscale fusion restaurant inside. There were a lot of tables that were filled, but the servers are super attentive, which was nice. We ordered the duck red curry and drunken noodles to share (medium spicy). Shame on me for never having been here, despite Yelp's constant attempts to make me see just how delicious this Thai joint could be. Everything here seems to satisfy just what you need when you think of Thai food. Everything from the tea down to the spring rolls and pad Thai-- all bomb. Love the blistered string beans. It's just on the edge of being too greasy but it's got that nice crunch and fresh flavor. The tofu in there (add your protein) was just tits. So much garlic use but none of it over powers. Also love love that crushed peanuts in the sweet chili sauce bit. Best part about dipping your crispy tofu. read more

What an amazing spot for a date. My husband and I went for Valentine's Day last minute around 5pm. It was busy but only waited about 15 min for a table. Everything is in good condition, the tables and chairs and so on. The decor is well done, and the music volume at a good level. The food was incredible!! So comforting and you could just taste the quality. Good portions. I was really excited about my leftovers the next day. We got the red duck curry (mild) and the pad see you (beef). All the staff were nice and checked on us frequently. And idk how to explain but the experience of eating there reminded me and my husband of our travels in Europe. Everything was just so thought out and beautifully presented. And the pricing was reasonable for the portion and the quality and taste of the food. I really enjoyed this experience. Thank you Yelpers for this great find! Our group of 6 had a delicious lunch here and service was top notch. We shared some appetizers such as: soft shell crab papaya salad, pork jerky, fried calamari and a chicken satay. I like how the satays here are actually cut pieces of sliced chicken vs on a stick. Much easier to eat and it was great with the peanut sauce. I end up dipping my other food item on the PB sauce. For entree I got the tom kha noodle soup, it came with wide noodles and the broth definitely hit the spot. Hubby got a chicken pad see ew and switched out the American broccoli to Chinese broccoli no issue at all. We wrapped it up by sharing a mango sticky rice and it was a perfect choice. This is our new favorite Thai spot, I just wish it is closer to us. read more

This restaurant is easily one of my top 5 in Diamond Bar! Service is great, ambiance is great, food is great- there's really nothing to complain about. We had a reservation for 4 people for dinner and even though we changed to 5 in the last minute, the staff was very accommodating! We ordered a papaya salad, house fried rice, Crying tiger (mild spicy), Salmon paneang (mild spicy), and 2 mango sticky rice. It was my 1st time having papaya salad and it was surprisingly good! Just the right amount of spice and lime juice The house fried rice was pretty good as well- we ordered it with mixed veggies. It wasn't too salty and had decent flavor. The Crying tiger was very juicy and full of umami flavor- but just a bit too salty so it paired well with rice. The Salmon paneang was AMAZING! It was a perfect balance of sweet and savory, had lots of salmon chunks, and a good amount of veggies. Lastly, we got 2 orders of mango sticky rice. The rice was soft and chewy, mangoes were sweet and ripe, and the sauce wasn't too watery. Overall this was a 10/10 meal! Will definitely come back! read more

When I lived in the area, Basil and Co was our favorite Thai place. I often thought about the soft shell crab after I moved. It was really fun getting to visit this weekend and see that Basil and Co was busy on a Sunday night, and even expanded its interior space. They use Yelp waitlist, but it was a pretty short 10min wait with 7 people ahead of is on a Sunday night at 6:30pm. The papaya salad at medium spice was pretty spicy because of the fresh chilis. The soft shell crab seemed bigger than I remembered and tasted just as amazing. The catfish was just okay, it was a pretty standard stir fried dish. We got it at hot level, but it wasn't too spicy. Its always a little sad to me when an Asian place charges for white rice, but here we are. The service was pretty slow too, we had to ask twice for water refills and for the check. But the deliciousness of that crab still makes this place a highly recommended place in my book. read more

Basil and Co is a fusion Thai and Vietnamese restaurant at a hidden part of Diamond Bar. Parking is available and plentiful so no need to worry about finding parking. What you should do first is make sure you put yourself on the waiting list before you come. I put myself on the waiting list and it was about an hour wait. So thank god they offer yelp waiting list so I didn't need to show up to put myself on the waiting list. The ambiance is a clean, modern and chic atmosphere. Its family oriented and also good place to hang out with your friends. When we were here, many people were celebrating their birthdays. So it was a festive and overall a good vibe environment. Food was amazing. They served with really fresh ingredients and all the dishes had good flavors. The portions were generous and food to serve family style. The prices were reasonable too. About $15 on average for entrees and about $5 for appetizers. Our favorite dishes were pad thai, rad na, crispy pork with broccoli, and pumpkin curry. I wouldn't order the egg rolls. It was just 2 small thin pieces and didn't taste anything special. The restaurant was very busy. It was a full house inside and a full house of people waiting outside as well. Service was great too! Our food arrived quick, fresh, and hot! They stopped by several times just to fill up hot water for us. Asking for help was quick too even though they were super busy. I was quite impressed with their service. It's been awhile since I have been to a nice thai restaurant. I really enjoyed Basil and Co and wouldn't mind coming back. read more

by far my new favorite thai food spot in oc!! my boyfriend and i waited for around an hour because we came at peak dinner rush on a saturday but it was so worth the wait. our waitress was so friendly and helpful in answering our questions and also recommended the chicken satay to us which was absolutely delicious (i genuinely think about it everyday). we also got the spicy fried rice and the drunken noodles which were both so savory and yummy. in addition, the interior of the restaurant is so cute and there is a pretty decent amount of seating. i live about an hour away from basil & co but i will definitely be coming back here soon!! read more

Came here with a party of 10 for my brother birthday. Was a lovely environment, quite small but clean. The waiters were really attentive and quick with the water, food, and other necessities. The food was amazing and highly recommend this place. My favorite thing on the menu is Crying Tiger, which is market price but quite frankly... made me cry. It was a 10/10 and well worth the price. This is our go to Thai restaurant. The establishment Is pretty cozy, so sometimes there is a wait. They usually have a waitlist for when you arrive. We usually take it to go. My husband LOVES their pad see ewe. I think they have great pineapple fried rice. It comes with raisins, cashews, pineapple and chicken. It's so good. I have also had other fried rices they sell and they are good too. But the Pineapple Fried Rice is fire! That's what I go back to. Highly recommend coming here and getting a to go order. Delicious Thai food that hits the spot! Really loved the soft shell crab with papaya salad, it was so refreshing and our favorite item - the pad see ew and pad Thai were also really good as well and pretty standard. Also loved the pineapple fried rice, was very umami. Would recommend making a reservation - even for dinner on a Monday night, it was pretty packed but we luckily made a reservation. I checked Basil & Co out for the 3rd time on Friday for a friends birthday. At first I was a little disappointed because it took over an hour to seat our 9 person group due to the big group before us taking an extended time. However this is not the restaurant's fault. When we got seated, the waitresses were very attentive and made sure we got our drinks very fast and did their best to give us our orders as soon as possible. I thought the food was amazing, just mildly pricey! But overall, ambiance was great and I would recommend for smaller groups and families! read more

Ambiance: beautiful, hip, modern with many different sized tables able to accommodate different sized parties Service: waitresses were attentive and patient with the child in our group. They were nice to let me know when I was paying that I can redeem the free thai tea right away with the points I earned from this tab Food: crab fried rice- standard, love the texture of the fried egg, not much crab meat, not sure about diced carrots Pad see ew with chicken- not much protein mixed in, on the sweeter side, but noodles did not stick together which is good Fried prawns with tom yum sauce- this sauce blew me away. It is packed with flavor and I wish I could buy a whole bottle of this. The shrimp was standard, might be slightly overfried or needs an oil change as the color on it is too dark Crying tiger- beef was tender even though it was cooked at well done (for the child). The sauce did not add any additional element to the beef, not sure if it is because we requested no peanuts (allergy in the group) but it was quite watery. This is also my first time seeing crying tiger being listed as market price so I was crying when I saw the bill at the end because a thin steak in such a small portion was surprisingly over $60. I honestly don't think I'm charged this price for a steak at a high end steakhouse. Papaya salad- crunchy but way too sweet and not made traditionally. Had large chunks of tomato that made it difficult to eat with the rest of the slaw. Everything should be uniform. Thai tea- way too sweet, unconsumable. read more

My fav Thai restaurant in the area! I've come here several times already to try different things and the food never disappoints. The interior of the restaurant has a very modern and aesthetic design so it's nice to dine in as well. I recommend joining the waitlist before arriving at the restaurant because the wait here can get a little long since the restaurant itself isn't too big. Spicy Frjed Rice (8.5/10): Very good spicy and aromatic flavors and comes with a lot of bell peppers and veggies. Shrimp was also extremely juicy and succulent. Tastes like the rice version of their drunken noodles which is also really yummy Fried Calamari (9/10): Soft, tender calamari rings wrapped in a light and crispy batter that's not too oily. The sauce it comes with is great for dipping Pad See Ew (9/10): Always a must order whenever eating Thai food! Classic pad see ew flavor with large chunks of meat and a lot of broccoli and carrots The servers here are very nice and attentive and the food comes out extremely fast. Ask for some chili sauce because they have some pretty good ones they give if you request it! They also give pretty big portions and you can always expect to have some leftovers after. What a great meeting spot for work, friends or family meals. I suggest making reservations because it's not a large space. Such a warm & inviting environment and the servers are amazing - attentive, prompt, and super friendly. We got suggestions from our server about great dishes and everything was delicious, hot and flavorful. The food was fresh and timely. Solid place for nice meal! Nice ambiance and the food is really good. Came here for dinner one night with some friends and it was very pleasant. We ordered a bunch of different items to share. The green curry was thick and flavorful, not watery at all, can taste the quality in the ingredients. The pad see ewe was also seasoned perfectly and the noodle was fresh and bouncy. Service was fast and efficient. We did have to wait 30min to get a table due to the popularity of this place. Overall nice experience. read more

Popular Thai spot in Diamond Bar! We got takeout because we were in a hurry but we ordered their Beef Salad, Pad See Ew with shrimp, Panang Curry with chicken, and Chicken Satay. I liked the pad see ew's noodles a lot and the entire dish had a great savory stir fry taste to it. The beef salad and panang chicken curry were both more lemongrass-y than I expected but very delicious. On top of that my drunken noodles with beef medium hot was smoking hot when it hit my table and the flavor was outstanding without adding my fav spices. I have come here three times and it has always been amazing. Basil and co is a little on the pricier side so if you're eating with another person expect to spend more than $40 easily. I have gotten their pad thai, Tom yum soup, chicken satay and Thai tea. Everything always tastes consistent and super super flavorful. For my pad thair lovers: if you're looking for something saucy, strong and filled with meat? This place has it. Portion sizes for everything are decent, I do wish there was a little more but I can't complain. The service was pretty bad honestly. The people were rude and didn't take our order for about 20 mins after sitting down. Overall though this place is super cute and perfect for a date night! I have found my new favorite Thai spot! When we first discovered it, we went 3 times in a week. The pork jerky is absolutely delicious. The flavor is good on its own. The sauce isn't necessary. I can definitely see why this place is popular- they take Thai food and make it a bit more American with the choices of protein and big plates. I decided to come here on a whim while scrolling through restaurants on Yelp. My party shared a Tom kha soup with shrimp. It had quite a bit of what I believe are sliced king oyster mushroom, a decent amount of shrimp. The flavor was well balanced, though I prefer when it is heavier in flavor in all aspects to give a nice contrast. My dad had the green curry with chicken. The flavor was interesting and not quite like other green curries. There was kind of a very rich vegetable flavor, which I liked. Most green curries are lighter in flavor but this one was quite decadent. I wanted the massamun curry with lamb shank- they did not have the curry but said they could pair it with other curries, and I got it with panang curry as it is my favorite Thai curry. Overall the panang was as I expected, which is a mix of red curry flavors and heavy on coconut milk. The lamb was just okay, it was a bit of a spectacle since they cut most of the meat off at the table. The meat itself ended up being a bit tough/dry. It was not quite fall off the bone tender, which is usually the appeal of it when I've had it elsewhere. Nevertheless it was still fine. My brother got the spicy fried rice with pork. I tried a small amount, and I don't really have much to say when it comes to fried rice. One thing I noticed that could've been better was the white rice. It was a bit clumpy and stuck together unlike what I normally see with rice, which would be fluffy and just loosely sticking together.Maybe it's supposed to be sticky rice-like, I have no clue. Other dishes I would consider trying is the soft shell crab, which seems to be one of their signature offerings as they serve it with papaya salad or sauce. Hi Yelpers, my name is Calvin and my wife is Air. We have both worked in the restaurant world for more than 12 years. We have been working hard, learning and gaining as much experience as we can to one day open up our own restaurant. We strive to provide delicious Asian Soul Food to the community of idiamond bar. I did some reading on the reviews of this place and I have to say that a lot of the more critical reviews were more about how they were understaffed, which is understandable (at least on my end) because everyone in this area is getting sick. I understand that the food is not for everyone but I have been to a lot of Thai food places in Diamond Bar and even the expensive ones for a fancy dinner, but nothing compares to Basil and Co. First of all-- the food is amazing. I am not going to lie, I always thought Thai food wasn't for me. But Basil and Co. has really opened up my flavor pallet towards Thai food. There is another Thai place in Diamond Bar, I am pretty sure less than a 5 minutes away from Basil and Co., but when me and my family went there they tried to charge us for Thai chilies, the service was horrible, the tables were lazily cleaned, etc. Some of my teachers, my friends, my family who don't even live in Diamond Bar, all go to Basil and Co. I personally get the Tom Yum Soup there. They give you really big servings. My parents get the papaya salad and pineapple fried rice and they love it. We have been coming here for a year now, even before the new construction. And food never changes. I personally don't get spicy in my food but my parents absolutely love spice. They will drown their food in Thai chilies and they will want more. They are satisfied with the spicy level here. I personally can't handle spice. So if you are a mild person like me, they have that option too! The service is amazing! The owners and the nicest most sweetest people alive and they even gave me a shirt! They are open to having new friendships with their customers and I love that about them. Also they have the most nicest waiters. Jade and Ray and seriously the most nicest people, but they also do their job just right. I am aware that there are more workers there but I have personally not met them, only Jade and Ray. When ordering to go, they put the food in nice, reusable containers and they write a "thank you" message on it which is just so adorable. They package everything very secure. I have never experienced a leak or anything unless it was my fault haha. The atmosphere of the place is so soothing and relaxing. It's very modern and aesthetically pleasing. But not the type of modern where it makes you feel like it's too basic.. it's cozy and warm as well. They decorate for holidays as well. My personal favorite is when they decorate for Christmas. It feels very homey. The outside is very welcoming. There are chairs in case of a wait and decorates as well as a board. There are free stickers and candy at the cashier as well. Overall, I have always loved my experience here at Basil and Co. I have never come across a day where they were "lacking". It's always been consistent pleasurable service here. I first went to this place and had a good experience. Today, when trying to book a reservation for my birthday, they were being very accommodating. However, they weren't letting us book for a specific time we wanted so they asked us to choose either 730 or 8 PM, after 10 minutes of trying to find a time that worked we settled on 8 PM and made the reservation. When we show up to our reservation five minutes before, they tell us they gave up our table and that our booking was for the original time that we wanted at 7:45. We argue that it's OK that they had to give up the table because we weren't there at the time, but it's not right that they're making us wait at the back of the line after giving up our table after they told us to come at a different time than the one they Assigned. Mistakes can happen, the attitude received by the person working the host stand was not welcome, she was very rude and accusatory. I use the term 'he' when trying to describe who my family spoke with when booking the original reservation. Since I wasn't on the phone, I didn't know the gender of the person, and she started getting mad at me because apparently there were all girls working that day. The host, who might've lied told me she was the manager, so I respectfully complained. And rather than even bother to listen or provide any appropriate customer service, we were shut down and not heard. I was rooting for this place, as it's look and feel originally was an exciting place to bring to the vibrant small town community we have built in Diamond Bar. I am disappointed to stop my support, but any business who employs someone like that, especially in management, does not have my trust nor respect. The owner must have a change of management and customer approach. Consistency in respectful service and a proper approach to seating and a management is what this place needs for the rest of our friends in this community to not hear only poor reviews. i booked a graduation lunch just this pass sunday for our group of 18. i made reservations a few weeks ago and was confirmed. They even called the day of to make sure we were coming. When we arrived the table wasn't ready for about 20 minutes. Then when we were seated there wasn't enough to seat 18. About 5 seats missing, so my guest had to stand. i asked if we can add another table and the waitress (short hair with glasses) gave me attitude and said i had to wait. I finally got around to eating at this restaurant with some friends on Sunday night after having it bookmarked for some time. A Japanese teppan restaurant shares the site, making it very convenient for its customers. I did not anticipate a wait when I arrived at 6 o'clock in the evening, therefore I did not make a reservation in advance. It was freezing outdoors, so when our time came around, we wanted to stay inside the restaurant. However, we were informed that we had to wait outside till our turn came. A wise move that allowed us to sample more meals was to order a few things and share them family style when we took our seats. I got a papaya salad, some free curry chicken, larb, mango trout, crab fried rice, spicy eggplant, and mango sticky rice. I was pleasantly surprised by how fast my food arrived. It's easy to see why this humble spot has earned recognition in the Michelin Guide. Everything we ordered was incredibly fresh. The beef noodle soup was outstanding, with a rich, flavorful broth, tender beef, perfectly chewy thick hand-pulled noodles, and fresh bok choy that brought the whole bowl together. The pan-fried dumplings were cooked to perfection, with crispy, golden bottoms and juicy, flavorful fillings. My personal favorite was the fish and leek dumplings, which were fresh, delicate, and packed with flavor. We also ordered the lamb and fennel dumplings. We also loved the refreshing garlic cucumber salad, which paired perfectly with the meal. Don't let the simple, no-frills dining room fool you. This place is all about the food, and it absolutely delivers. The quality is exceptional, the portions are generous, and the prices are very reasonable.
