I has high hopes for this restaurant when we arrived with a reservation. The service was very slow - our drink order was not taken till 20 minutes after we sat down. Ou or entrees arrived nearly 2 hour after we first sat down. The waiter was unwilling to make any changes to anyone's dishes. Although they defined themselves as fine dining, I don't believe they had the sufficient staff to provide fine dining service . Unfortunately, I think they are not prepared for a full restaurant of diners. No one on our group was impressed by their food. While one or two appetizers were pleasing, no rave reviews. read more

Came here on our last night in Boston. Nice patio space with good social distancing protocols in place. Service was very good. Ordered a selection of appetizers and 2 entrees. Of the appetizers, love the pan seared scallops and the chowder was tasty. The meatballs were ok and wished the mozzarella in the arancini was more more melted. Both the entrees had lots of great seafood. The Cioppino was excellent and the pasta bella mare was tasty even though it was drenched in sauce. We (a party of 2) visited on a Friday evening during the dine out boston week to try out their 3 course meal for $38. We had a reservation for 7:30 PM but we had some trouble finding parking so we reached there at 8:00 PM. Although we were late by 30 minutes, they still held the table for us and we were seated immediately. The general ambience of the restaurant is really cozy and romantic. A really nice place for a date night. So we started with a cocktail (Italian Collins) & a wine (Moscato). The cocktail was really nice and refreshing to have after a day of hard work. We opted to go with the Caesar salad and Arugula salad for our appetizers. The caesar salad was really interesting with a smoked whole lettuce leaf with caesar dressing and a fried poached egg! The salad had a really nice smoky flavor and the creaminess of the egg yolk went really well with the salad. The arugula salad was also really good with perfect amount of dressing and fresh vegetables. After enjoying the appetizers we moved on to the entrees and opted for Indian Fusion Masala Ravioli and Chicken Parmigiana with Rigatoni Pomodoro. The ravioli is worth trying out as it has the perfect balance of Indian and Italian flavors and surprisingly they go really well with each other! This is the only restaurant where you can get such a fusion. The chicken parm portion was really huge and it was just basic. Nothing extra ordinary and nothing bad. The chicken had lost its crispiness though. After finishing the entree it was time for dessert! We opted for Tiramisu and Vanilla Creme Brûlée. The creme brûlée was amazing! This was the best creme brûlée we have had in a really long time. The caramelized top of the creme brûlée had the perfect crunch which you can rarely find in creme brûlées around Boston. Highly recommended! The tiramisu was also good but nothing compared to the creme brûlée! Another lovely meal at Basil. We made reservations for a Monday night (it was a pretty busy summer day in the Back Bay) but we were the only ones there, for the entire meal. 5 minutes away the restaurants were packed. People - you must look for this restaurant, it's EXCELLENT. The room is lovely, manages to feel open (high ceilings) and cozy at the same time. The service was great, attentive but not too much. And the food is delicious - we started with the arancini, Hubby had the bolognese, the rigatoni was perfect al dente and the sauce was very tasty. I had the arugula salad, very fresh. We have been here several times, excellent every time. Definitely worth going a little off the beaten path, but really just a 5 minute walk from the Copley Westin. read more

We arrived early by city folk standards to celebrate a birthday and were promptly seated, table decorated for the occasion with fun confetti. The open space was deceptively intimate thanks to the lighting and long, sheer curtains that set the inner dining area apart from the tables in the periphery. Our server, Alejandro, was very attentive and pleasant. The food was comforting and delicious, although we were hoping for some more authentic crusty bread rather than the soft rolls we were served. My friend and I opted for the sampler plate and the popular bolognese. The sampler platter came with burrata and tomato, a salad, calamari, and an arancini. I loved the calamari, which came with a spicy dipping sauce and tangy peppers. The burrata was delicious (it's hard to mess up), but I almost wish there was more! The salad was yummy and came with a tangy cheese crumble (perhaps goat?), it was a nice blend of sweet and salty. I wasn't as big of a fan of the arancini because it was basically a big cheese ball, when I was expecting some rice and tomato sauce as well. The bolognese was decent. The noodles were al dente and came with a generous serving of meat sauce. Prices for these two dishes where both around $20 (although I don't remember exactly). I've been wanting to come here for years and finally came in on a quiet night, it picked up later but I had my pick of seats. I ordered the gluten free pasta with bolognese sauce, it was great. I ate it all. If you know me at all I rarely order a glutinous plate of pasta without a side of greens and bring home half the starch but it was worth the carb overload. The sauce was fantastic and the gluten free pasta perfect. The true surprise of the night was the gluten free chocolate soufflé with vanilla gelato. I was ambivalent about the order but the bartender suggested it so a complied. Thank the heavens above I did because I ate it all! I honestly don't remember the last time I went out to eat and had such a nice surprise. The staff were awesome and the environment quiet yet lively. My thoughts still return to the rack of lamb they had on the menu and some of the other plates. Would definitely recommend going and I will be returning with friends. read more

However, when I got my Amex bill today and couldn't figure out why it was a lot more than I thought we spent that I figured it out... when I looked into it, they added the tip automatically (which is fine) if the server lets you know but we were not told at at all!!! please be aware if you go here because they don't tell you that's their policy and you can ended getting screwed. Our experience at Basile was top notch. Walking into the restaurant we saw a classy dining environment with beautiful curtains and a room full of decor that gave the restaurant a unique look. We were greeted by the friendly staff that were polite, attentive, and professional throughout our dining experience. To start, me and my husband ordered the Basile Calamari. It came out and smelled amazing. It tasted fresh, with a soft and chewy texture but also had that crunchiness. We could taste that it wasn't over battered like a lot of other restaurants. I had the Lobster Risotto and the lobster was really delicious and tasted like what a fresh lobster should taste like. The rice was executed perfectly it wasn't too soft or too hard. Now what made the whole experience amazing was the Crabmeat Ravioli my husband had. First of all we would like to tip our hats to the chef because the sauce was just spectacular. It tasted creamy and rich but not too overwhelming. Sometimes when a sauce is too rich it can make you sick of it really quickly. But not this sauce. I had one of the shrimps that came with the dish and I knew I had to ask my husband for more. I ended up enjoying it so much I caught myself dipping my own lobster (from the Risotto) into his sauce lol! Highly recommend Basile and their crab meat ravioli. read more

Unfortunately we didn't have a-good experience in Basile. My husband and I had dinner on new year eve. Our reservation was at 9 am and we didn't get a table until 9:20. After we sat, our waiter took our food and drink orders (four course menu was provided on that night) we have waited 30~40 mins to receive our salads and drinks. We understand that it was busy night however nobody communicated with us. Also, I understand that it business they would like to accommodate as many people as possible however tables were literally next to each other. It wasn't even a space to move comfortably. Food on the other side was delicious. Staff definitely needs some training on customer service . Communicate is the key, you have to communicate with your customer and inform them! read more

We went to this restaurant for "restaurant week" or "Dine Out Boston". We made the reservation through the Dine Out Boston website but when we went to dinner Saturday, we found out they don't do it on Saturdays... though it doesn't say that on the website. The owner said they don't have the ingredients anyways for the special menu... meanwhile all the dishes were on the original daily menu. He never apologized once and didn't care. Came here for restaurant week and ordered from the prefix menu (which had a large selection and was a great deal). The ambiance and atmosphere is just as how it looks in the pictures~ very warm, elegant, and cozy. Service is good~ nothing super spectacular but our waiter was friendly and attentive. The restaurant is located in a central part of Boston, close to Copley, which is really convenient. If you're driving, be sure to park at the garage on Clarendon St~ they validate and it's only $5! It's a little bit of a walk, but for $5 it's worth it. As for the food, I was not disappointed. The reviews on yelp were high so I expected a good meal. For the appetizer I ordered these fried risotto balls. It comes with two. SO filling! The inside had mozzarella too so you can imagine how heavy this was. Nonetheless, it was delicious!! I don't know how I had room for my entree but I ordered the bolognese which apparently is one of their most popular dishes. Everything about it was great~ the sauce, the meat, the pasta itself. Definitely can see why people love it. As I was just about keeled over, my tiramisu for dessert came. I'm a huge dessert person and this cake was so decadent. Solid four stars. Our party of 4 came for the restaurant week menu and all the food we ordered were delish. Hostess was always smiling and willing to help out. Appetizer: *Caesar salad with anchovies--don't really know how to rate a salad dish, but the anchovies do add a special taste to the Caesar salad. Yum yum! *insalata di rucola-- baby arugula salad. The salad dressing with this salad makes the bitter taste of arugula so much better. Love it. Entrée: *Sirloin--I recommend it cooked medium rare. One friend asked for medium and the other medium rare. The medium one was only very slightly pink inside, but the medium rare one was fully light pink in the inside without looking rare at all! Sirloin was very tender--and juicy too. *rigatoni bolognese--- was awarded best of boston; however I'm not a big fan of it. The tomamto sauce is indeed pretty intense. Doesn't taste like regular tomamto sauce at all. Taste is overpowering.(in a good way tho) *orechiette con salsiccia- my personal favorite! Love the texture of little eat pasta. The sauce is very good and special! I brought leftover sauce back home for another meal. Dessert: A little disappointed-- gelato tastes like ice cream. Creme brûlée is okay if you don't compare with other restaurants; too sweet.. Love the chocolate mousse We had a great experience overall. We came here tonight for Dine out Boston (restaurant week) and I was excited to get some house made pasta. As a table, we order the arancini and pomodoro e mozzerella. It was all okay, with the arancini the best in taste but the homemade mozz was meh. For the entrees, we got the sirloin, gnocchi, orrechiette, and tagliatelle. Sirloin was salty, tagliatelle was solid, and the gnocchi was tougher than what homemade gnocchi normally taste like. overall, I had high hopes, especially since everything looked so good. But again, the entree were just meh. For dessert we got the creme brulee, mango mousse, and tirmisu. The creme brulee certainly tasted like it was not freshly torched and came straight from the fridge. Mango mouse was solid, but mine has no berries on it as it read on the menu. Overall, I hope the reason the dinner was not the best was just that they prepared a lot en masse for restaurant week, but regardless they did not do well marketing the food for me to come back again. It's too bad because I really love great pasta, and they just didn't have great pasta tonight. :( read more

Typically we go into the North End for dinner but wanted dinner closer to our hotel on Bolyston St. Davinci was an easy walk for us although the block it's on looked a little deserted. They are also doing some remodeling outside the restaurant to include the stairs leading to the entrance. Don't be put off by the exterior work being done. The restaurant is pleasantly decorated. We were greeted in a very warm and friendly manner. Love the backlit menus. What a clever idea. Server was pleasant. Cocktails and wine were terrific. Boyfriend took me here to celebrate our 1 year anniversary. What a charming place! We were warmly greeted by the hostess when we walked in. She kindly told us there was a 30 minute wait so we decided to get a drink at the bar. I got a White Sangria and oh my goodness it was so refreshing and crisp! The bar tender (who was also our server) was very attentive. We then got the Calamari for our appetizer and it had a nice crispy texture, the apple mayo sauce it came with made it more flavorful! We were half way through our Calamari when the hostess came over and told us our table was ready (yay!). I decided to go with the Veal Tagliatelle and my bf got the Gnocchi Scampi. All fantastically flavorful! The veal was super tender and the English peas, rosemary & red wine sauce combo was superb! The Scampi came with 4-5 jumbo shrimps and the potato dumplings had a delicious savory taste and firm texture. Overall experience was really fantastic! Our server/bar tender was a gem, he recognized that we were there for a special occasion and brought out 2 glasses of wine to add to our celebration. :) It was such a sweet gesture! My food was okay, but not worth the price. Service was okay. Our dirty appetizer dishes sat on the table for a while. Then my daughter got food poisoning from the crab ravioli. All the staff were extremely friendly, down to earth and gracious. Thanks to them I bumped up the review by 1-star. Cons- You guessed it, the food. What we tried: Burrata appetizer, Scallop appetizer, gnocchi with mushrooms entree, and my friend had a pasta dish with meat. I can't recall exactly what it was. Everything was lukewarm. Everything was fine. Were they complex in flavor and texture?Was the presentation impressive? Were the dishes innovative? No to all of the above. We also ordered the gelato trio for dessert. This was a complete joke. The lack of flavor and lack of creamy texture was comparable to the cheapest ice cream you can imagine. Hood anyone? We gave them another chance tonight 10/8/21 & have been sick immediately after eating our appetizers. Nothing changed. In addition, our short, pink haired waitress decided to completely ignore the food allergies that we had. I asked " hey can you write down and specify my allergy for the kitchen?" and she looked at me like a deer in headlights and walked away. Fake Italian food. Severely low quality. The calamari was fried a little too long so it was very crispy. The crabmeat ravioli and bolognese rigatoni were okay, nothing special. The creme brûlée was fine. Then I got a cup of tea..... they served Bigelow. As a fine dining establishment, I expected the selection to be better, not some Holiday Inn caliber of selection of tea. Overall, the food was mediocre at best. There's plenty of Italian restaurants to choose from in the city. Wtf Yelpers? Wow I'm not sure how this got rated so high. The place has a typical downtown feel, business lunch or client dinner but no real ambiance. The tomato and burrata was ok, tomato was not ripe or sweet, burrata was excellent though. The scallops were rubbery, not fresh and the entire dish was poorly executed, risotto was salty. I made a reservation for valentines day a month in advance and three days before the date I received an email saying I need to call and confirm my reservation at 5:15 that day. So I called and got no answer, after calling an additional six times throughout the evening I still was unable to reach them. I then received an email saying my reservation was cancelled. Da Vinci's is a deliciously authentic Italian resturant in Boston that's not located in the North End. Have only been here once but was impressed with the overall ambiance, service, and professional touch this resturant evoked. Came here for a date, and place was the perfect setting. And if you like larger parties, there was a table of 14 sitting right behind us(company outing I presume). Can't remember what my gf had for dinner, but I ordered the bolognese as I do at most Italian restaurants I visit to see if it compares to the bolognese id get from a local aperitivo in Firenze. The bolognese was good, but nothing spectacular. That said it was authentic, and the rest of our appetizers were delicious.
