My daughter has invested time and effort in faith through her year long classes, and as mother, seeing your seven years old daughter reached a huge milestone in her dedication to the Catholic Faith you want to acknowledge and celebrate the importance of the Holy Eucharist by throwing her a party. She had expressed "icing on the chocolate cake" would make her special day, extra special. To celebrate this sacred occasion I went to BR located on Blossom Hill because the one closer to my house in Willow Glen did not do too well with my fellow Yelpers. I ordered half chocolate cake with chocolate ice cream and half white cake with Oreo ice cream. I specifically told the girl who took my order the inscribed cake must be exact, because birthday parties you celebrate once a year. This divine moment only happens once in a lifetime for Christians. I told her on the left side, facing the cake, to write "Congratulations Gabriella" because Gabriella is my daughter's Saint name, given to her when she was baptized by her Godmother at four months. This information was expressed to the girl who wrote down the order so she know how important this minor detail was for us. On the right side is my daughter's name, "Brooke Sydney". The moment has arrived, I was busy getting her ready to head out to Gen BBQ, where we celebrated her big day with families, so my boyfriend went to pick up the cake. When he text a photo of the cake I was very upset. Executing this inscribed message on the cake is sentimental to our family. The misplaced and out of order names and wording was upsetting. The party was in 20 mins and we did not have time for BR to fix it. At the restaurant, everyone loved the taste but some of the family member made comments about the message on the cake. Embarrassed and shameful, I didn't want to let it get to me and refocus on the importance of that day. The quality ice cream here is fresh not freezer burn or chewy like other BR. This was the reason why I contacted Tim, the owner to tell him the writing on my daughter's First Holy Communion was done incorrectly. He sounded genuinely happy to "make it right for me" and told me to come back with the original receipt and he will "take care of me". When I came in, he greeted me with a smile and a firm handshake. He asked me what he can do to make it right for me. I told him it's my father's birthday today, and I don't want my money back but would like another cake for my father. He was happy to fulfill my request and even threw in birthday candles on the house. Tim showed his decorating employee, how the wording was not done correctly but in a very respectful manner, by comparing my receipt and my daughter's cake photo. She was argumentative but he kept saying to her, "you decorated a beautiful cake." It's not easy to find such a nice, forgiving and understanding boss. I hope next time, the cake decorating lady can be more susceptible to constructive criticism. Tim, your clean ice cream parlor deserve a five for cleanliness and organization. Your attitude, customer service, exceptional boss, you deserve a 10 on my scale. Thank you for "making it right" for me and my family. Under the previous ownership, I didn't feel welcomed and it was like they wanted to rush you out of the store. I never went back after that experience. But recently, I was in the area and noticed it was under new management. WOW, what a difference! I was greeted and offered samples. The girl behind the register was friendly, even the new owner chatted it up with me. He said that they donate to the local schools; I'm sure it has helped build community with his store. The scoops and toppings were generous portions. My two-scoop sundae was deliciously awesome! The cakes in the display really caught my eye. Yeah, you might find them cheaper (and uglier) but they won't 1) taste the same and 2) DEFINITELY LOOK the same (look at the pics...they don't skimp on the decorations). I've been here a handful of times to say that the service is here is great! The employees always ask if you would like to try any of the flavors or need help with any of the ice cream cakes. Last year I got my S/O an oreo ice cream cake. I was pretty bummed that the employee couldn't fit "Happy Birthday" on the cake but at least he tried. I haven't been here in a long time but the little one decided to treat her brother and sister for some ice cream. We were welcomed in by the owner, Tim who has excellent customer service. He wasn't rushing and even offered the kids to try as many different flavors as they liked.
