Yet another 5 review. This time, lunch with a friend, someone had recommended to try the red trout and WOW- that's a special dish. No frills, but that's exactly what I wanted. Just a grilled, beautiful red trout with a side of olive oil, caper and pearl onion so delicious. So flaky! Service is always excellent when it's Nico. This was my first time at Basta. The food was excellent from start to finish -- everything came out fresh and well-prepared, and it's clear a lot of care goes into the menu. The ambience matched the food perfectly: warm, inviting, and just the right vibe for a great meal out. Huge shoutout to our server Robert, who made the whole experience even better. We just celebrated my birthday at Basta, and it is amazing!!! This is the best Italian food I've had in forever. We shared a tomahawk steak, pasta, pizza, and calzone. Everything was excellent!! I'm far from impressed. They do not have any type of juice but pineapple juice on the menu and I ordered a power bowl with chicken cauliflower and broccoli and the chicken was undercooked and my friend ordered the judo bowl and the chicken was also undercooked and pink. There was gristle on the chicken too. We asked them to heat it up. They went back and they heated it up and it was still not cooked up to par. The coffee was OK they wouldn't give me one glass of sparkling water. I had to buy a bottle and our meal was about $160 and all we did is order two bowls, a bottle of sparkling water two coffees and a tiramisu for dessert. Unless you order pasta, this is just not a full-fledged dining experience that I would ever drop any more money on. read more

After having an exceptional experience at the Agoura location, I was very excited to hear that Basta was opening another location in Thousand Oaks. In my opinion, this is easily one of the absolute best Italian restaurants in Conejo Valley, which has quite a lot of competition in that particular cuisine. To eat, we ordered the Pappardelle, Tagliatelle, Caprese Pizza, Pizza Vodka Sauce, and a Brian Bowen Smith. The price point is pretty reasonable for the elevated quality. Each dish was delicious. If looking for top notch Italian food in the Thousand Oaks area, look no further. This place will not disappoint! read more

I ate here in February and I keep forgetting to do a review! I wanted to say everybody needs to try this place. It is amazing. The food is amazing. Their homemade ribbon pasta is amazing and so are the meatballs. The meatballs are the best!! I definitely can't wait to go back there again when I'm back in town!! Daniel was our server and he was very very nice! Great service! Very smart with his Italian food knowledge! The ambience was amazing beautiful inside!! This is our favorite restaurant in Ventura county! Definitely one of the top places to eat, and better than many "main stream" steak houses. All of the pasta is phenomenal- you can't go wrong with anything on this menu. All of their cocktails are delicious as well. Some must orders: the steak florentine, rustic gem salad, Paccheri Piccanti Al la Vodka (spicy vodka cream sauce), the side of roasted potatoes, the Tiramisu for dessert, and also the butterscotch pudding. These are all some of the best dishes/steak we've EVER had. The service is great, but they don't take reservations so plan on getting there around 40 minutes+ before you want to eat to wait for a table. The ambiance is beautiful. It's not cheap but completely worth and actually more reasonably priced than many main stream ritzy chain restaurants and steak houses. Come dine at Basta instead! We are thrilled to try their new Thousand Oaks location. read more

Going to do this Review a little Different then I normally do. Personally, when I dine out there are certain things that I look for! How well does the Employees work together as one to accommodate their customers. Service is key to all Success. The Cleanliness of the Establishment and most of all the food. So, as I entered into the Restaurant I was greeted right away and seated, there was no waiting, I was lucky. Immediately a employee came over with a Basket of Sourdough Bread and on the table was already the oil and Vinegar, An Italian Tradition. Great Start. I enclosed pictures of the different kinds of Dishes that I had the enjoyment of eating and I was in Heaven. My Favorite was the Pasta with Shrimp and Fresh Clams, such a Delicious Meal. I personally recommend this. This location has been open for an about a year now. I want to Thank the Manager for coming over to my table and asking me How my meal Was, this is a Bonus. Thanks Nicko. People always ask me if I know any good Italian spots and..... I finally found one! First, the ambiance of Basta, inside and out is amazing. Such a perfect date night vibe or a good place to meet friends for dinner. Our server was so welcoming and friendly as he shared his recommendations on food and drinks..and he did not steer us wrong. We had the Summer in Sicily and Fresh Berry Whiskey Sour for drinks (10/10) and for our entrees we ordered the Tagliatelle Ragu and Cappelletti Romagnoli. If you get anything at all, you need to try the Cappelletti Romagnoli. It was the best dish I have had in a restaurant in such a long time. The flavor...just dance in your mouth. Just had dinner today with my husband and our friends, and we were blown away by the food, amazing service (by our wonderful server Mila!), and the outdoor ambiance. It was my first time here at Basta, and I will definitely be a repeat customer. Everyone was so professional, food came out quickly, and the outdoor seating area was so exquisite! Parking might be tricky but there is plenty of street parking (and there's a valet option) - so I'd recommend planning ahead of time. Beautiful open concept restaurant, sleek modern industrial Italian feel. We were told it would be an hour wait but we're sat less than that. We were able to get drinks at the bar as we waited. I had an espresso martini that was delicious. Bartenders are extremely sweet and helpful. Waiters are extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. Pastas Cavatelli alla Norcina perfect flavor 10/10 only a few pieces of sausage but the pasta was perfectly cooked. Chitarra Cacio e Pepe was 7/10 it didn't have much flavor then again that pasta is very basic in the sense of a few ingredients, the pasta noodles were excellent quality tho. Perfectly cooked. Steaks Tomahawk was flavored beautiful cooked, great flavor 10/10 sea salt was put on the side for preference. Tomahawk was based on the pounds. NY steak had salt/pepper olive oil delicious cooked perfectly 10/10 Pizza Basic kids cheese pizza sauce was good, cheese was cooked perfectly, wood oven cooked w a slight char Sides Broccolini was honestly amazing roasted w pine nuts, sauteed onions and tomatoe that was absolutely sweet and juicy. Specials Salad mozzarella, tomatoes and an onion type of compote. Toasted bread was charred perfectly. The fresh bread was delicious and freshly made. In all amazing experience. Everything was incredible. Definitely a splurge but well worth it! read more

Had lunch here today with my family and we loved it! We usually go to the Agoura Hills location, but honestly this one was even better. It felt so much more open, bright, and spacious instead of feeling tight or crowded. Daniel was our waiter and he was awesome. He was so attentive, checked in on us often, and was just genuinely friendly and engaged the whole time. You can tell he really cares about his customers, and it made such a difference. Came here on a Tuesday night with my husband and 7-year-old to check out the new location. We've been to the Agoura spot before and honestly had some frustrating experiences with their "first come, first served" system--watching people show up after us and get seated first was not it. Thankfully, this location didn't pull that. It was a slower night, only two parties ahead of us, and we were seated in about 20 minutes. No complaints there. First impression? The place is beautiful. Definitely an upgrade in ambiance. Parking, though, is a bit of a scavenger hunt unless you use valet (which, to be fair, is convenient). We got there around 6:30 and were seated close to 7. Even though it wasn't busy and tables were clearing out, service was... slow. It took a while just to get greeted and even longer to put in our drink and food orders (about 20-25 minutes in). Our server was friendly, but seemed more focused on chatting than actually keeping things moving. Like... maybe swing by our table before bussing another one? My son got the pepperoni pizza and asked for juice--options were pretty limited (orange, cranberry, pineapple... basically bar juice). We ordered the arugula and burrata salad, which was honestly the highlight. Fresh, flavorful, and exactly what you'd want. For mains, my husband got the pappardelle with meatballs, and I ordered the tagliatelle. Both were just... meh. Nothing terrible, but nothing memorable either. The pasta leaned a little too far past al dente for our liking, and overall the dishes didn't wow us. By the end of the meal, the place had pretty much emptied out, yet it still took a while to track down our server for the check and a to-go box. All in all, the vibe is great, but the food and service didn't quite match it. It was great to try the new spot, however, in the future this probably won't be a place we'd go out of our way for when we're craving Italian food. read more

We went tonight and we didn't have to wait long to be seated and was we did we had an incredible experience. Mila was our outstanding server and I'm not sure she couldn't have given us better service. We started with the Fritto Misto Di Mare which was lightly coated and fried and was accompanied by a side of marinara sauce. My wife went with the short ribs and I had the Tagliatelle Al Ragu and we shared the Roasted Cauliflower. The flavors for each was fresh and flavorful. The GM came by and it topped off a great time at Basta tonight. read more

Pros Bartender - her name was Rose was wonderful Generous serving of Mussels Con - Location for parking They don't take reservations so you will have a significant wait Design of the restaurant feels very tight and cramped Food was a bit bland, lack seasoning or needed pinch of salt Loud Ambiance If you sit at the bar be prepared to wait for someone to acknowledge you and even wipe the area clean Bar seating very cramped Your cut of meat is taken out of a fridge that's at the entrance of the restaurant. Waitstaff then walks it all the way to the kitchen. Not quite sure how sanitary that process is. I was hoping g this location would have been better than Agoura, not the case. The food and service were great! our server Raj left us alone to enjoy our meal and checked in just the right amount. He refilled our waters when needed without interrupting our conversation and gave great menu recommendations! Went here at 11:30 am on a Sunday but they were mopping the floors even though they were open at 11 am. We were the first one seated but surprisingly, instead of spreading us out, all the customers were seated on the left side of the resto - making the area crowded. Now the food: The seafood appetizer, pescatore bowl and tiramisu were good. The short ribs were just ok Now the service: There was only one waitress and she was so busy taking orders that we sometimes have to flag her down. Our main dish (bowl and short ribs) came 30 minutes after we finished our appetizers. It would be nice if they would tell us how much longer it will take for them to cook it...not "it's coming"....but never came on time Remember, we got there at 11:30 and one family came after us. The waitress took our order around at 12:05. Bread and appetizer came fast enough and The resto became busy around 12:30 pm We didn't leave until 1:30 pm. We had to ask a server where we can pay and finally the waitress came to take our payment. We shouldn't be flagging down a waitress in order to get service. Would I ever go back? Maybe.... read more

So, this review is a little strange because I am giving 5 stars because I love Basta and literally eat there 1-2 times a week. But, tonight I had a bad experience, which was a one-off and it had to do with management. Basta deserves 5 stars so I don't want to lower their rating but I had to express my experience in hopes they read this and take into account what went wrong today. My partner and I went in around 3:30-4pm at the TO location. It was not crowded. We let the bartender know we were in a little but of a rush but no pressure as I am willing to wait for excellent food. We ordered one of their phenomenal steaks. Josh, who cut our meat was amazing! Thanks Josh! As he just completed cutting it for us, a woman came to him, blond, straight hair, clearly management as she was not in uniform, and talked to him for a full 3 minutes, whispering in his ear! We sat there, waiting for her to finish talking to him, until he could then put our steak in front of us. Meanwhile, it was getting cold. She could have waited 30 seconds for him to give us our food. I found that incredibly rude and terrible customer service. We got our food after she was done talking to him and the very expensive steak, was room temperature. This was unacceptable, in my opinion, and should never happen. Really disappointed as she should have known better. Or at least apologized to us if it was something so urgent she had to interrupt us getting our food at the temperature it should have been. read more

I recently checked out Basta's new spot on Thousand Oaks Blvd, right across from Tarantula Hill. I happened to walk in during their pre-opening, and I was surprised by how big and beautiful it is--definitely prefer it over their Agoura location. The vibe is super modern/cosy and stylish, perfect for any kind of outing. I kicked things off with a Mamma Mia cocktail, and wow, it was delicious! The roasted rosemary sprig really added a nice touch. I sat at the bar, and the bartenders were super friendly and helpful. They suggested I try the Truffle Cavatelli, and it was fantastic. The service was great, and the owner even brought my food himself, which was a nice personal touch. Overall, Basta's new location in Thousand Oaks is a great addition to the area. The place looks amazing, the service is excellent, and the food is delicious. I'll definitely be coming back often. I am not usually a big fan of Italian food, but this place completely changed my mind. My favorite dish was the octopus salad and the octopus was cooked perfectly with a tender texture, not overcooked or chewy like I have had at other places. Our server was amazing and gave excellent recommendations for both food and wine which made the meal even better. My guests and I had such a great time that they are already planning to bring their mom here for her birthday. I would definitely recommend this restaurant! read more
