Every Batson River is good. Their food makes it a reason to go, every time. Their drinks are also always very good. Now, Batson River is also expensive for what you get. And that is. It unique to this location, it's all of them. This new Wells location has the AC cranked, so bring a jacket or extra layer if you get cold. Their bar service was a little off. Maybe table service would be better. The food came out entree first, appetizer second. And it took a long time. We ordered drinks from the bartender and could not get her attention again. The other bartender finally caught on about 15 minutes later. So, great food, good drinks, less than good service, and kind of on the expensive side for what you are served. read more

We visited Batson River Fish Camp for dinner a couple of nights ago. The drinks were on point and our server was great. The pretzel appetizer was delicious, we weren't fans of the duck fat cornbread. I ordered the scallops for my entree and they were hands down the BEST scallops I have ever had at any restaurant. Charred just slightly and cooked to perfection- can't say enough good things about this dish! My husband had the short rib dinner and also said it was excellent. I am so glad there is now a Batson River in our backyard! As a fan of the other two locations (Kennebunk and Portland), this was a very pleasant surprise. From the moment you pull into the parking lot, you are hit with Batson's "image"... class, eloquence, rustic, charm, MAINE. The building is laced with decor (from the outside in) that makes you feel like you're at your family cabin in northern Maine... this is a refreshing change from the coastal niche that embodies most Wells establishments. Everywhere you look there is something new to discover; from the starlit ceiling above the bar, to the gorgeous hand laid fireplace... there really was no attention to detail that was missed when decorating this establishment. The menu is somewhat limited, but in a good way. Each option has a tasteful twist on a classic dish (e.g. poutine with IPA gravy, jalapeños, and topped with crisp onion strings); and wish options like burgers & pizza, there truly is something for everyone on the menu. On this one occasion, my husband & I shared two appetizers & a dessert. The mussels were marinating in a delicious wine-based red sauce and were the largest & tastiest mollusks I've ever enjoyed. The poutine was comforting with a kick and the gravy left me wanting to lick the bowl clean! We finished our meal with the blueberry compote served warm in the skillet and topped with melting vanilla ice cream. There are a lot of blueberry dessert options in Maine, but this was one of the best. Lastly, Batson is known for their unique, fresh, creative cocktails using their very own spirits and house brewed beers. The drink menu offered refreshing options for summer & there were draft beer options. They also offer mock tails & 2 craft nonalcoholic beers! The service was prompt, friendly, and efficient. Sam was our waitress and she was knowledgeable, peppy and seemed to thoroughly enjoy being a part of the team. The bartenders were efficient, speedy and made even our sprite and NA beer look "important" with their drink ware and garnishes. This place is a home run... this is exactly what was needed in Wells. So grateful to have a cozy, delicious and welcoming place to hang out... all year round! read more

Overall the experience was pretty underwhelming, the food was decent and the service was lackluster as we felt like we were being pushed out the door by the end of our meal. It also didn't help that our server was rarely to be seen which was compounded when my partner was hopping to ask for more tartar sauce an they were MIA. By the time the server got back to us, our food was cold. If you are going to be open in the Fourth of July please make your hours well known and don't seat customers if you are just going to rush them back out the door. read more

Tonight was the first time we ever ate here. Even though it was a week night, there as a steady flow of business. Our waitress was terrific. We never felt rushed in any way. I had the tempura fish and chips. The haddock was fresh, light , and delicious. The fries were also. Not a hint of oily taste. She had a pear and plum salad with grilled chicken. It looked beautiful. And tasted so too! It's a nice place for a casual meal or drink. I was also told the drinks were hefty and generous. They were offering Monday nights are $1.00 chicken wing nights. I went here on vacation with my family for dinner. We saw it was a new place down the road, so we wanted to try it! The atmosphere is cool, with cool statues and pictures! It's a wilderness/camp theme which is awesome! For dinner, I got the Fried Chicken Sandwich! The chicken was cooked perfectly, and it was huge! We also got pizza, which was equally amazing! I would highly recommend Bateson River to anyone vacationing in Wells/Ogunquit, or are just in the area! read more

Room to improve. The food was very good and not that great. For appetizers we had their version of poutine, which was excellent, and the beet salad also very good.For entrées we had the fish tacos which were good side of rice was overcooked mushy. We were initially excited about the mussels,the portion and the size of the mussels were great, but the broth was bitter. The restaurant was noisy. Went to the Batson River Fish Camp for lunch today. I had the burger and my husband had the blackened haddock fish tacos. The burger was good--a bit too "smokey" for my liking, but no complaints. We had to do a forensic examination to find the fish in the haddock tacos... more like cabbage with some fish buried down at the bottom of the tortilla, but it was flavorful nonetheless. My biggest complaint is that they charge $4 for a soft drink then CHARGE for refills... that is simply un-American! Bad on you, Batson River! :-( read more

The food, the service, the drinks, the atmosphere is absolutely AH-MAZING! We had a party of 5 with us. Please be mindful, they do not take reservations. But, with a little bit of luck by our side, we were sat within 5 minutes of entry. Our server Katie is friendly and very attentive. She was very accommodating and presented everything promptly. If you are a tequila drinker, I highly recommend the Spicy Palomar Margarita!! And if you are gin drinker, by all means, order the Baston Gin and Tonic with peppercorn! Waitress not concerned with serious food allergy concern. Waitress tried serving gluten item to my son. When asked if it was GF she said she requested it to be. I had to ask 3 times to confirm with chef and when she finally did we suddenly had a new plate without the item in question. Be extra attentive to your food if you have any food allergies. read more

Long time local here. I was excited to try Fish Camp out after seeing how busy it was this past summer. I had dinner with my fiancé and we both particularly enjoyed the vibe and atmosphere. Chill music and conversations in the background make for a good date spot. The menu was sort of small but had pizza, burgers, other American entrees. We were seated in the outside-ish area that had plastic coverings which was fine for November and well lit. This inside seating area is nice with newer décor and with a large bar. I did think that the tables were a little too close together but it did not affect us. My fiancé tells me the pizza she had was good and I think the burger I ate was very good. A little to meaty (two meat patties) and cheesy for me but I still appreciated it. The burger left me very full. Waitstaff was attentive, they did mess up the original pizza ordered but remedied right away and handled professionally. This property has been several different restaurants in the past that were never successful. Overall, I thought the place was clean, food was tasty, and I had a good time. I hope that Fish Camp lasts for year to come. read more

We chose this place based on the location to where we were staying and the reviews. It was my birthday, so we wanted to go out to a nice dinner to celebrate and end our week in Wells. The place was packed so we trusted it would be good. Ehh...we wouldn't go back. We were seated right away, at a table that was in the middle of a high traffic area. I noticed another table near the windows that was empty and asked to sit there. I guess this must have rubbed the hostess the wrong way because she looked very annoyed as she picked up the menus and marched over to the better table. My husband and I ordered drinks we always enjoy at other establishments. His citrus beer was not enjoyable unfortunately...he barely finished half of it. My North Pole Mule was delicious, the best part of the meal actually. The food was mediocre...only one of us finished the entire meal. My husband's burger looked like a couple of fried patties from McDonalds. We should have known something was up when he asked for it medium and was told it's only cooked one way. I ordered the beet salad with chicken and was disappointed in the lack of beets. There were maybe a dozen small (1 cm) cubed pieces of gold and purple beets. There was an over abundance of lettuce leaves, and then some very stringy dried out duck or Turkey strewn about. A very small amount of dressing was given on the side, as requested, but it wasn't enough unfortunately. The "poached figs" were candied, not poached. So, uhm...it was disappointing at best. One daughter ordered the pear fennel salad and enjoyed it. Our other daughter ordered the margarita pizza and barely ate three small slices. She's didn't even want to bring it home to snack on later. The waitress was lovely and the decor was inviting and festive for the holidays. We left pretty quickly after eating and had desert somewhere else. For a birthday dinner, I was regretful we chose convenience to quality. Oh well...at least I had a great drink! read more

Meh. The food was mediocre and the table service less. We had a table of 8 and half the tables apps came out and while the waiter was clearing their plates, the rest of the apps came out while there meals were being served. Then, as we're getting delivered our meals, they start clearing their dinner plates. As a local with a variety of places to choose from, meh. Let this place be for the vacationers.
