Yup... it's worth the hype! We were only able to get a 3:30 reservation and basically planned our day around it. I would absolutely do it again! Great service, the staff operated like a well oiled machine. The steak was cooked perfectly and was huge. We also got a side of truffle mac and cheese. Just those 2 items was plenty of food for 2 people. Also, the have the best blue cheese olives i've ever had in the dirty martini.
I know that this is a steakhouse, but I came for a burger! A Wagyu beef burger at that! After adding an egg and some bacon on, this had to be one of the best burgers I've had, EVER! If the French dip has your attention, you should try that as well to go with the delicious au jus! The fries came with a garlic aioli that has a STRONG garlic, so if you don't like that, sub for ketchup. This place gets busy so make reservations ahead of time, if not your wait time can be hours, unless you choose to sit at the bar which is a first come, first serve basis. The bartenders are on point with the drinks too. If I were to be back in town, I'd return for this butger!
Super cool old school steakhouse. Was able to grab a last minute late dinner reservation while in town. The ambiance and service was 10/5. Started the night at the bar while waiting for our table. $8.95 Pickle backs (Jameson shot with chilled pickle back). This is the way to start the meal! Host, servers, bartender were all amazing. Really enjoyed seafood and steaks. I'm a bit of a pork chop snob so that didn't hit the mark for me but would definitely be back for steaks and vibes
Bavette's Bar & Boeuf absolutely lived up to the hype. From the moment we walked in, the staff was warm, attentive, and made us feel welcome. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant has a beautiful classic steakhouse atmosphere. Dimly lit, elegant, and full of old school charm.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was outstanding. The filet mignon was perfectly cooked and incredibly tender, the truffle mac and cheese was rich and indulgent, the short rib stroganoff was packed with flavor in every bite and don't forget the crème brûlée. Between the exceptional service, the inviting ambiance, and the amazing food, this was one of the best dining experiences we've had in Chicago. I would absolutely recommend Bavette's and can't wait to come back. Enjoy!
The most hyped restaurant on the Internet for Chicago absolutely lives up to the hype. Reservations are posted 21 days in advance on Resy at 9am Central Standard Time. These reservations literally don't last 5 seconds. My sister and I were online trying to get reservations and luckily she was able to get 9pm. The best I could do on fastest finger was 10pm. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When arriving at the restaurant it looks like a speakeasy inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There is a hostess stand immediately to the right, and then another right. However, there is a second hostess that is standing in the doorway when you walk in with an iPad that can also check you in. After being checked in we waited about 10 minutes for our table to be ready. Once it was ready the hostess walked us through the restaurant all the way to the back, and then down the stairs into the parlor. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is super dark down there. So dark you are going to need your phone to see the menu and things around you[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Shout out to our server Zane as he was a top tier A+ server! All of his recommendations from not ordering a full loaf of bread to steaks to sides were spot on. Up first was the worst item of the night, the $17.95 Mezcal Corpse Reviver cocktail. I wanted a cocktail with mezcal as I like the burnt smoky taste, but this one wasn't it. I really enjoyed my $14 Corazon Cocktail (Dirty Martini). They served it with the 3 blue cheese olives just how I like it. Up first, we had the $6.49 Hand-Made Sourdough bread. This was spot on perfect. We got the smaller order and it was plenty big enough for 2 people, unless you plan on ruining your dinner. Then, we got a $13.99 1/2 wedge salad. Perfectly made wedge salad. I got the $15.99 brussels sprouts and they were exquisite. If they were slightly more charred they would have been perfect. The taste, glaze, and toppings were perfect. I also got an order of the $15.99 button mushrooms. They were very very good as well. For the main course, I had the $89.99 bone in filet mignon. I am a tough steak critic, and this was one of the best steaks I've ever had anywhere. A little plain, and lightly salted, but it was a perfect juicy medium. For dessert we had the $15.99 carrot cake. I did not like this carrot cake as well as Flemings or J Alexanders, but it was certainly very good. The entire meal was over $350, but it was a dang good meal. This is clearly a restaurant you come to on a special occasion. The staff, the experience, and the food certainly were very special. If you want to spend a bunch of money on top tier food in Chicago, then this is your spot.
Bavette's isn't really a walk-in kind of place... unless you're lucky. On our wedding anniversary this year, we got very lucky. We showed up expecting our usual. A couple of seats at the bar, since landing a reservation here is not that easy. Five minutes later, we were seated at a high top instead. Small miracle. The food is spectacular. We went with the frites and the filet, and honestly, the sides deserve their own review. Rich, flavorful, the kind of thing you keep picking at even when you're full. Truffle mac and spinach are my usual go-tos, but there's really nothing on the menu that lets you down. Heard so much about Bavette's, I'm so glad I got to try it! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Such a good place for a date, anniversary, or even a work dinner![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Fair warning, it is super dark and I couldn't see some of the food lol.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered the Brussel sprouts, Truffle Mac n cheese, Dry-aged bone in ribeye Double wagyu cheeseburger, Pomme frites, Crab stuffed avocado, Button mushroom, and strawberry meringue. Everything was phenomenal! Bavette's does their steak right with the intersection of perfectly charred along and juiciness. It was well seasoned and all the flavors are truly phenomenal. Be prepared to be very full because a lot of the food I felt was greasy. However, the crab stuffed avacado was a nice refreshing touch!

Our server was making jokes, memorized our entire order, and made the experience feel special. 9.5/10. The burger is absolutely worth the hype. The bacon is a MUST. Without it, it's a normal burger. With it, it's one of the best burgers I've ever had. Juicy, high quality, and not nearly as heavy as Au Cheval's. 9.7/10. The smoked salmon Caesar was great, but it doesn't really taste like a traditional Caesar. A little soggy, but still enjoyable. 8/10. The truffle mac was heavenly. Loved the creaminess and crust on top. A little softer than I prefer, and the truffle flavor was on the lighter side, but it worked really well. 9/10. The ribeye was cooked perfectly medium rare with a great peppercorn crust. I'm not a huge steak person, but it tasted like a really high-quality steak. The steak salt and béarnaise sauce definitely elevated it. 9/10. The fried chicken was amazing. Super crispy, juicy meat, flavorful seasoning, and the mashed potatoes and gravy paired perfectly. Hard to believe it's only around $30 for four huge pieces. 9/10. They surprised us with ice cream and hot fudge for our celebration, and the fudge was sooo good. 8/10. Overall, great food, amazing service, and one of the best date night vibes in Chicago.
If you want a premier, premium dining experience you will get it at Bavette's (assuming you're able to secure a reservation here, which somehow my friend was able to deliver to kudos to them). Overall the dark ambience and the service gives you the fine dining feel without having to shell the money or the effort to be at a fine dining restaurant. The food pricing is on the higher end but in terms of value for money perhaps lives a bit more on the hype and its location over everything else. I think the steak was decent and delicious but wouldn't amaze you enough to feel like you'd have to come here a second time or have this be your go to steakhouse in Chicago. I think the actual star of the show were the mushrooms, that dish was a fan favorite among our table. I also think the bacon they use in their salad was also phenomenal and delicious. Overall a nice, premium experience, but moreso as a one time treat rather than a consistent go to place.
The service here was immaculate--easily the highlight of the entire experience. Attentive without being overbearing, the staff truly elevated the night. We ordered a spread: the wagyu burger, short rib stroganoff, truffle mac and cheese, Brussels sprouts, elote-style corn, fries, and the hot fudge sundae royale, paired with Kir Royales. Every dish delivered. The short ribs quite literally melted in your mouth, rich and perfectly cooked. The wagyu burger was everything you'd expect--tender, juicy, and indulgent. Also the ice cream was amazing! The standout for the table, though, was the Brussels sprouts--crispy, flavorful, and gone within minutes. Reservations are notoriously hard to secure, but if you're willing to take a chance, try your luck at the bar. It's absolutely worth it.
Bavette's definitely deserves more than 5 stars. You can never go wrong with anything you order and the service is phenomenal. I think of Bavette's ALL the time, ever since I tried it, I feel like I can't find another restaurant like it. Reservations are definitely hard to book, but it is worth the trouble. We went here for my partner's birthday and everything about it was perfect. The steak, the sides, and even the dessert were lovely. The restaurant is beautifully lit with intimate seating. We definitely feel very special for this very special occasion. The server (forgot his name) was so kind, he made sure we understood the menu and gave us his personal recommendations. Would love to come here again, perhaps for another special occasion. I will always think of Bavette's P.S. The food was so good that I forgot to take photos of the other dishes we had. This place was great. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was dark inside so probably good for date night, but I went with my family and it was still a good time.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The dry aged bone in ribeye was super flavorful. Brussels sprouts were a little crunchy but the mashed potatoes I loved. The crab stuffed avocado salad seemed like it was missing something but I might have not squeezed enough lemon. The Wagyu cheeseburger was also tasty. Got the peach pie for dessert as well which was so amazing especially the crust.
Scoring a table at Bavette's is no freaking joke but by golly WE DID IT! Well, my husband did for our 5 year anniversary. The hype is well deserved. We had a wonderful evening! The space is soooo beautiful. It was a raining when we came which was perfect for the dark and moody vibes inside. We started out with rose and oysters -- a perfect combo! We also did a half of the wedge salad. The bacon in here? Unreal. I decided to go with the Chicago cut ribeye and got it medium rare. It was actually cooked a little closer to medium but was so, so good. The crust on top was top tier. For sides we got the butter mashed potatoes and asparagus. The mashed potatoes are a MUST, where the asparagus was pretty standard. We also ordered the sourdough with was just spectacular. It was at this moment we realized we ordered way too much food, but we couldn't leave without trying a dessert. We got the chocolate cream pie which was absolutely decadent and heavenly. 10/10 worth the hype. Hopefully we can get a table here again one day!

Through it's a fairly large restaurant, it's a very intimate experience, perfect for an upscale date night or a special occasion. Baked Crab Cake (5/5) - I was skeptical about a single crab cake for $20 but this thing comes loaded with chunks of crab. I also very much liked how they gave A LOT of remoulade on the side, because there's nothing worse than a crab cake with no sauce. Crab Stuffed Avocado (4/5) - Categorized under "salad," I was curious what this was actually going to be. Turns out, it's an entire half avocado topped with crab, with a stack of bib lettuce dressed with a zesty, acidic vinaigrette. It was nice to enjoy this dish between our fried crab cake and our main course. Dry-Aged Bone-In Ribeye (5/5) - At $100, you might be wondering if this is worth the splurge. In my opinion, it is. The sear/crust was top-notch, and our steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare. Included on the side is a finishing salt and béarnaise sauce, which are sometimes extra charges at other steakhouses. Also, I'd say this is a pretty shareable entrée between couples (assuming you get some sides), so the price is even more justifiable when you take that into account. Buttery Mashed Potatoes (4/5) - Extremely flavorful mashed potatoes. The texture might throw some off. These aren't super fluffy, "whipped" potatoes but something with a more loose texture (though I wouldn't call them soupy). The garlic confit on top made this more garlicky than I was expecting (which isn't a bad thing). Overall, a good side dish, but I'd try others next time! Chocolate Cream Pie (5/5) - Oh my gosh, this dessert was an unexpected surprise. Imagine a perfectly smooth, dense chocolate filling that tastes like pure chocolate. Normally I'd shy away from ultra-dense desserts, but the vanilla bean foam on top adds the necessary creaminess to wash it all down. Highly recommend this dessert for chocolate lovers. Beautiful speakeasy; dark, cozy and lively with jazzy sounds. No tables available without a reservation. The bar is always full but reservations for sitting here are not necessary. Ordered the Bavette's Punch while waiting for a seat at the bar. Enjoyed speaking with others who were also waiting. Took about forty-five minutes to ease into our seats. By this time the punch had snuck up on us. We just had to order the wagyu burgers because they were rumored to be one of the best in Chicago. Seasoned and cooked perfectly, toasted brioche bun, American cheese, thinly sliced pickles and topped with two slices of tender and crispy pork belly. French fries served with both ketchup and garlic aioli. We ordered the brussel sprouts as an appetizer just because we like them. Lol. We shared the salted caramel ice cream with hot fudge and ordered carrot cake to go. Thank you Bavette's for taking good care of us and a darn good burger. read more
The restaurant had a comfortable, intimate atmosphere with soft, low lighting. The service was seamless, explained the menu well, help made decisions and suggestions. Everything ordered was given its proper time to enjoy. Started off with the small portion of the sourdough bread. Fresh and hot! Next was the mixed greens and apple salad. Simple, fresh lite dressing and crispy. This was also shared. Next was the short rib stroganoff, the short rib was very tender, perfectly cooked. Great flavor. Finished the dinner with 6 oz filet mignon. Medium, cooked perfectly , tender meat. Highly recommend. Along with the brussel sprouts and the sweet potatoes. Both had great flavors and are easy shareable. The thick cut bacon was mouthwatering . The desserts were good. The chocolate pie and the crème brûlée. If you were to skip on dessert you wouldn't be missing out. The cocktails were delicious. I recommend the bees knees and the Lillet Rosé. read more

Was in town for pleasure and business and decided to try this spot after hearing so many great recommendations. When I arrived the line was out the door so I recommend making a reservation or come early. Since it was so packed, I ended up sitting at the bar, which turned out to be a great experience. I ordered the waygu burger and definitely recommend adding lettuce, tomato, bacon and a egg which really takes the burger to another level. I also ordered the fries and that were cooked perfectly, and a salad, to make it seem as if I was making healthy choices lol. The total cost of the burger was around $50 but totally worth it. I would definitely try this place when I'm back in Chicago. read more
One of my absolute favorite dining experiences in Chicago. Everything from the vibes to the food to the hospitality is simply perfect. I walked in with a friend on a Friday night, fully expecting an insane wait time and to just grab seats at the bar. However, after just 15 minutes of (unsuccessfully) getting a bar seat, our table was ready! We ordered the dry aged bone-in ribeye, the burger (with bacon), and sides of truffle mac & cheese and mashed potatoes to share. Everything sounds super heavy, but we were freezing and starving so that was what called out to us. The ribeye is one of the most flavorful ribeye I've ever had and it was cooked perfectly to medium rare. Every bite was just so delightful. The truffle mac is super creamy, with the truffle flavor very much present but somehow not overpowering. The mashed potatoes were like liquid gold, super delicious and dotted with chunks of garlic. The burger was also tasty, but honestly overshadowed by the other items we ordered. It's like the burger at Au Cheval, but with higher quality meat and more expensive. Sadly, we were too full for dessert so we didn't try any. No notes on any of the food, seriously. Throughout the night, our waitress was super friendly. She explained the menu to us quite thoroughly, and gave us her recommendations when we asked. Sure, the prices at this establishment are objectively quite high, but I honestly felt that it was worth it for the quality of food and the excellent experience overall. I can't wait to be back! I hate that I loved this place so much! I live in Michigan and was determined to get a reservation. So when I finally got it I was elated. First the service, now the host stand can be a little flat but I think they get so busy and it's so in demand they have to be stern but all the staff was amazing. I never needed a thing. They were so nice and checked on us constantly. The food... omg the fooddddd! Healthy portions! You could definitely share if you wanted to be more waist or budget friendly lol. My favorite had to be the shrimp and the steak. The steak was cooked perfectly and the au poivre was a great accompaniment. Dessert was also amazing. Healthy portions for sure shareable. I would definitely make that drove from Michigan to come back! Perfect start to my 30th birthday!! read more
After coming here for a third visit, my review still stands tall for this place. Probably my favorite steakhouse in the city, with excellent service and atmosphere. The only difference is we were seated in the section on the second floor below and the atmosphere is a bit different but still very intimate and the seats are very comfortable. I will keep coming back here to celebrate special occasions, or just come get some top tier steaks and sides! read more

Mashed potatoes were god tier and brussel sprouts were fine. The sundae was absolutely insane and came with so many toppings, but was very good. The long awaited dinner at Bavette's finally happened for me and it did not disappoint. The ambiance is like the other Hogsalt restaurants, dark and moody. We started with the sourdough bread which was to die for, and the wedge salad that came loaded with these rich, thick cuts of bacon that added so much flavor. The sides were honestly the real stars. The button mushrooms were incredible and the mashed potatoes were pure buttery goodness, topped with the most delicious garlic confit. Now for the entree. I ordered the dry aged ribeye, Chicago style and peppercorn crusted... and I think I played myself with that one. The peppercorn was so overwhelming that it drowned out the actual flavor of the steak. I wish I had just gotten it as is or gone with something simple like a butter topping. Overall though, it was a great experience. The service was good, our server was warm but not quite as attentive as I expected. We waited a bit after finishing our cocktails before he realized and took the next order. I'd definitely go back, but next time I'm keeping my steak simple. read more
Great old school steakhouse in Chicago. I went right after it opened and the bar was already almost full. Found a seat and enjoyed the steak tartar to start. It was really good with large slices of toasted bread. For dinner I enjoyed the bone-in ribeye which was cooked perfect and it was delicious. The bar staff were amazing and took great care of me. Amazing food! My husband and I got in line at 2:45 for a 3pm reservation on the patio. We ended up asking and getting seated in a real seat - amazing! [[HIGHLIGHT]]We had great service and great atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The mixed green apple salad was 11/10, elote side 12/10, truffle Mac side 9/10 (very truffle forward - hubby not crazy for truffle), steak frites (best steak we've had in the city) 15/10, only thing we felt slightly disappointed on was the burger (8/10). We are Chicago burger snobs and this one just didn't hit for us. All in all, great vibes and great food - we will 100% be back to try another steak and sides! read more
I was so excited to finally experience Bavette's after hearing so many of my friends rave about it! It was tough to get a reservation, but I managed to snag one to celebrate my birthday. We arrived about an hour early hoping to grab a drink at the bar. It was completely packed, and it was hard to even get a bartender's attention, but thankfully there were a few seats near the entrance where we could enjoy our cocktails while waiting. I ordered an espresso martini -- it was okay, maybe a 5/10. It was strong, but it lacked the sweetness and balance I was hoping for. The ambiance, though, was absolutely incredible: dark, moody, and romantic -- perfect for a date night or special occasion. Once we were seated, our server seemed less than enthusiastic. He had a bit of an attitude, and whenever we asked about specific dishes, his go-to answer was simply, "It's a popular choice," which wasn't particularly helpful. We started with the sourdough bread, which was good -- nice crust, flavorful butter. For our mains, we ordered the filet and the steak frites. The filet was decent but nothing memorable. The steak frites, however, were extremely disappointing -- overly salty and very fatty, to the point where we couldn't even finish them. We were honestly shocked, especially since I've had the steak frites at Trivoli Tavern (from the same restaurant group), and they were fantastic there. I wanted to send it back, but given the server's mood, I decided not to bother. We also ordered the mashed potatoes and mushrooms -- the potatoes were again overly salted, but the mushrooms were excellent. Overall, the ambiance was wonderful, but the service and food quality really missed the mark. For such a highly regarded restaurant, I expected much better. One word: INCREDIBLE! I visited Bavette's for my birthday while in Chicago, and it exceeded every expectation. Even on a Wednesday night, the place was packed--so definitely make a reservation. I was lucky to snag a single seat at the downstairs bar, and I'm so glad I did. The atmosphere is dark, moody, and full of old-school charm--it really transports you. Service was top-tier from the moment I sat down. Despite being busy, the bartender was attentive and welcoming. The cucumber martini? Easily one of the best I've had. The sourdough bread? A must-try--thick, warm, and delicious. The spiced fried chicken? Juicy, flavorful, and generous in portion--definitely a dish to share. The bartender even treated me to the truffle mac & cheese, which I didn't personally love (not a truffle fan), but truffle lovers will enjoy it. Great restaurant and overall experience. It was nice my friend was able to make a reservation in advance, they do fill up quickly, so plan accordingly. I ordered the filet and shared several sides with friends, and everything was delicious. The atmosphere was upbeat and dark/ moody. Our service was phenomenal by all players. Only downside is how hard it is to get a reservation. All these damn bots instant booking reservations at 8AM a month out. Food's incredible though. The bread to start was delicious in its own right. My wife and I split a salad which came with some superb bacon and an egg on top, delicious. We then split a bone-in fillet, the bacon, and the elote. The bone-in fillet was delicious. I personally am not sure the bone is worth it, the normal fillet would be delicious and cheaper and allow more char in fact. Perfectly cooked. Loved the elote corn as well. What a perfect evening! I had dinner with my Godson at the downstairs bar and everything was perfect. The bar staff Ruben and Juan looked after every detail and made sure we were comfortable and well taken care of. We ordered lamb chops and a beautiful steak with mash potatoes and brussel sprouts that were cooked to perfection. The crème bulle was outstanding. Love this place so much. can't forget to include my perfect dirty martini. I'll be back! read more
Bavette's is truly one of my favorite restaurants. Its old world ambiance makes you feel as if you've traveled back in time. The main level is charming and elegant. The lower level, which I didn't realize existed until my most recent visit, features full service dining and a bar. Its dimly lit setting exudes speakeasy vibes. The Bavette's punch is a solid way to start a meal. It's a strong, but tasty, rum-based cocktail. The maraschino cherries utilized as a garnish were so good, I was tempted to request more. My go-to entree is the ribeye steak frites. It's a simple, but delicious dish. The fries are a great side, primarily because of the garlic aioli dip. The truffle mac & cheese is some of the best I've had at a restaurant. It's nearly impossible to pass up dining at Bavette's any time I'm in Chicago. There's a second location in Las Vegas, as well. Be warned ahead of time, it is on the pricier side, but for me, it's always been well worth it. read more

Amazing service , this is my second hogwarts restaurant that I've tried and it was a wonderful experience. The food was about a 7/10. We had the rib-eye steak , salmon , mash potatoes, fries, wedge salad , and the shrimp scampi, I'll go back just for the salad and shrimp scampi. read more
This was the best meal I had in Chicago. The vibes of the old school steakhouse were perfection, dripping in crystal chandeliers and red booths with waiters in tuxedos. Our server wished me "happy birthday" no less than 15 times and goddamn if that didn't feel special. The shrimp scampi is so classic, and it comes out bubbling, along with perfectly toasted bread. The crab stuffed avocado came with a salad that had the most incredible dressing. But the FRIES. Omg the fries. The very best fries I've ever eaten in my life. Later that night, right before I fell asleep, I turned to my partner and said, "Those FRIES." Those were my last words of the day. I'll add this: we ordered a filet medium rare. It came out medium. We didn't say anything; we just started eating. Our waiter came over and said, "I can tell from across the room that steak is overcooked and I am getting you a new one." He whisked it away and brought a new steak in 5 minutes, AND gave us new fries so we'd have hot ones to enjoy with the steak. All without asking. And you know what? He was right. Trivia: True or False, their website gives a detailed history of their establishment in Chicago. (The answer might surprise you). We stopped by for drinks on a Monday and it was packed. They were accommodating and said we could grab a drink at the bar and sit in the couches and chairs in the front. Amazing ambiance. When I waited a little (and I do mean little) extra at the downstairs bar, the bartender made it up by pouring a little extra in my Macallan 25 Sherry Cask. A superb and chill evening with friends in an awesome environment. Could not contain my excitement to try Bavette's, especially knowing that it's under the same restaurant group as Au Cheval and 4 Charles Prime Rib in New York. The restaurant is dimly lit and rather sophisticated feeling, but isn't too formal so smart casual attire will probably suffice. We had a 9:15pm reservation time, but they were running a little late, so we waited at the lounge until then. We were a group of 4, so we decided to order a steak for the whole table as well as a bunch of sides for us to pick at: SOURDOUGH BREAD: This was an absolute must order recommendation from friends and our server. Bavette's is famous for their sourdough bread, which is made in-house. We had to see for ourselves and I totally get it now. The bread is fluffy and soft with a dark, almost caramelized crust. It had a subtle tang from the slow fermentation process. The cultured butter went on so smoothly on the bread; its almost-cheesy undertone paired well with the deep flavor of the sourdough. This is dangerous when placed in front of you. PRIME BEEF FRENCH DIP: My favorite amongst everything we ordered. The thinly sliced beef was rich, juicy and flavorful. It had just the right amount of fat for depth without being overly greasy. The bread was crunchy outside, but chewy and soaked the dip so well inside. Pairing it with horseradish was a killer combination! I don't think beef dip will ever be the same for me again. CLASSIC RIBEYE - CHICAGO CUT: Well-seasoned and the bearnaise sauce really elevated the flavor of the steak. I felt like the steak could've been a little more tender. It was a solid steak, but for such a reputable steakhouse, I guess I expected a little more? TRUFFLE MAC AND CHEESE: Saw all the rage about this in the reviews and mac and cheese is my guilty pleasure. The mac and cheese was oooey-gooey and incredibly creamy. The truffle component wasn't overpowering, but pronounced and just the right amount. My favorite amongst the appetizers! ELOTE STYLE CORN: Creamy, smoky and rich. The corn is charred to bring out its sweetness and add a smoky depth. In contrast to the sprinkling of cheese normally in elote, the corn is tossed in a rich and cheesy blend of cheese sauce. The flavors were complex and indulgent -- a fan favorite amongst my table as well. BUTTON MUSHROOMS: Didn't expect them to quarter the button mushrooms, so I thought they were diced a little too finely. The flavors of the mushrooms were great though! Not too salty and the crispy shallots added great texture to it. SMOKED SALMON CAESAR: We wanted a salad to balance out our spread. The smoked salmon was diced a little too fine for my liking and I wish I had more per bite. The Caesar dressing was delicious and the tanginess of it balanced out the salad perfectly. As expected, my experience at Bavette was pleasant and enjoyable. Our server was amazing and very thorough with our order. He didn't push for us to order more, but also elaborated when we wanted recommendations. Definitely one of my favorite meals in Chicago! read more

Bavette's was my favorite restaurant in Chicago, and in fact one of the best dining experiences I've had in recent memory. At first when my husband told me how difficult it was to make the reservation, (apparently you have to reserve on the spot when it opens 21 days in advance) I honestly thought it was just way too hyped up so I kept my expectations low. Although, from the service to the appetizers to the entree, and even dessert, honestly I was just completely blown away. It was a 5 star experience for me and will forever be ingrained as one of my favorite meals. Coincidentally, our server Barbara was also from my hometown and we had a fun convo about that as well. BTW she gave us top-notch service and great recommendations! Now back to the food. My favorite items that we ordered were the crab cakes, the avocado crab salad, the dry-aged 20oz bone-in ribeye, and this amazing chocolate cream pie. The crab cakes were stuffed with mouthwatering crab not just fillers (they definitely didn't skimp on the seafood). This was by far the best crab cakes I've ever had, truly chef's kiss. The avocado crab salad was citrusy and refreshing and created a great balance before we filled ourselves with meat. As for the ribeye, I usually say my husband makes some of the best so it's hard to compare, but you can taste the dry-age of this rib-eye and it was cooked to a perfect medium rare with amazing char. The mashed potatoes to accompany the ribeye were also delicious, but the dessert was the cherry on top. The chocolate cream pie is not to be missed. I was so full at the end of the meal but still managed to eat the dessert. It was not too sweet, but dense and melt-in-your-mouth tasty! Overall, I left Chicago craving for more Bavette's and would recommend this restaurant to everyone. I love all the items we ordered and the jazzy moody feel of the entire restaurant. WOULD DEFINITELY recommend (dinner). Came here to celebrate my birthday, got a late reservation. It was very intimate and moody, the lighting was very low, when we walked in, it felt as if we walked into a whole new setting. We were sat in a booth immediately, which I would recommend if you have a small party. Our server was very nice and attentive with us, there were no complaints with her service We started off with drinks, I wanted to stray away from Old Fashioned because they have a whole section of the drink menu tailored towards small variety of Old Fashioned (which is quite literally a dream to me), but I ordered the Cognac Sazerac, which if I'm being honest tastes EXACTLY like an Old Fashioned. Nonetheless, it was a good one, one of the better ones too. We then continued with the Smoked Salmon Caesar salad, their portions for appetizers/salads are big so they recommended we only order 1 for the two of us. Either way, I didn't know what to expect because I don't typically eat fish with my salad but they put a nice blend if chopped smoked salmon, Caesar dressing, and Parmesan cheese that made it work. Very well done. We continued towards the entrees. I ordered Ribeye Steak Frites, along with side of Truffle Mac & Cheese and Buttery Mashed Potatoes. The steak was done Medium, and when I say it was probably the juiciest steak I've ever tasted; this was when I realized the hype about this place. Next, the mac & cheese was on-par, the cheese crust was a good blend of cheeses with perfect texture of noodles, was definitely a 9.5/10. Lastly, the mashed potatoes were... mashed potatoes, can't really say much more there, were good. This place isn't too flashy and is actually more lowkey than people think, but it was the quality of the food that stole the show. The meal overall was a 9.6/10, which for me, is an AMAZING rating. I would recommend to book a reservation a month in advanced and try this place for yourself, you won't regret it. For a steakhouse, they are fairly priced and have quite an extensive menu. MY ALL TIME FAVORITE RESTAURANT. Like genuinely nothing beats it. Nothing in my entire life is better than this ribeye. I was so excited to go here and I think I could eat it everyday if I could. The ribeye (whether in the steak frites or classic form) is just so insane. I can't even describe the perfection of the char and flavor. The appetizers and sides are so average but that's okay. Oh also the French martini is the best martini in the world and I'll stand by that. I literally shed a tear on my last bite it is that good. read more
Visited Bavette's for the second time and was lucky enough to snag a table for my party after a short wait, almost felt like I won a prize from the lottery, as I tried to reserve a table but had no luck several times! The food is as outstanding as I remembered, which is often not the case. Everything from the starters, sides, and steaks were superb, which is again another way this restaurant standa out among the steak houses. I walked in on Saturday around 4 p.m. inquiring about a table for one. There was no availability at the bar upstairs, but less than five minutes later I was guided to the bar downstairs. This picture isn't the best quality, as I was trying to be respectful of my surroundings. However, no picture would have done this plate any justice. Per the bartender's recommendation, I ordered the short rib stroganoff. It was creamy, flavorful, and filling. I also ordered the freshly baked, handmade sourdough, which was just as good the following day. To cleanse my palate, I followed the meal with a glass of table white wine. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this low-lit, ambient dining experience. read more

Was looking for a steakhouse and a friend recommended this place. Had no idea how difficult it was to make a reservation so I put a reminder at 9am sharp so that I could book 21 days in advance for Christmas Eve and luckily I got a time. I love a restaurant with a dark setting and dim lights around the room. Felt edgy and rustic. Was even happier that they seated us downstairs since I hear they don't always have that section open, so I got to see the whole restaurant. The food lived up to expectations. The steak was juicy and memorable and the pork chop did not disappoint. The sauce that came with it was too good. the BEST rib-eye I've ever had !! how is this the first time i've had a rib-eye that has a crunch on the outside but still tender on the inside ?!! the crunch on the outside was perfect, it had just the right amount to give some texture. it was also seasoned to perfection, didn't need any additional sauces or salt even tho they had some. The truffle mac and cheese was also so delicious, it actually didn't taste heavy like mac and cheese usually does so you know all the ingredients used are good. The oyster was fresh as well, we got the ones from Canada that they were offering. Defs recommend trying this place out and the dry aged bone-in rib eye is A MUST read more
Obsessed with Bavettes! Had such a great time for my boyfriend's birthday! We sat downstairs it's very moody lighting, the vibes are great! The service was wonderful. Everything came out quickly! To start I got a dirty martini, bread and oysters. The martini was fabulous. The bread is so soft. The oysters I would skip on they were really small and had shells in them. For my main I got the waygu burger. I added bacon and I highly recommend. This was incredible. The perfect bite. I tried my boyfriend's filet and it was cooked perfectly and seasoned very well. For sides we got mashed potatoes, truffle Mac and cheese and the mushrooms. The truffle Mac and cheese is soooooooo good. I was obsessed with this. The hint of truffle was perfect. For desert we got the big sundae, this was so fun to put on your own toppings! They also brought him out Ice cream for his birthday. I can't wait to come back! read more

No. They won't seat you until your whole party is present. They will have you wait in the waiting area until the rest of your party arrives!

Nah not really. Definitely get the Chicago cut. Or even better, the 22oz dry aged one. That one is insane and aged for 46 days

It's small or large. Small is shared for 2 as a side/app. Large cab be shared by 3-4 as a side. Small can be sized for an entree, especially with their sourdough bread. If you are going carb/gluten free, small may not be enough for an entree

Parlor is just the bar area which is right next to it you can eat on the main floor or downstairs I recommend the regular dinning area.
