    Stale, almost spoiled veg biryani.

The food was really bad, I mean it's stale and almost nearing spoilt. If you are not doing well as a business, you cannot punish your patrons for that. I have had bad Indian food all over the US and this one is up there amongst the worst.

    12/19/23 FYI, Butter Chicken

Sadly, today is a 2 star day; both my lunch and dinner experience was 2 stars. If you are following, you already know. The good news is that the Happy Hour was another 5 stars, but I do not plan to write an updated review. I did post pictures. :) Quality/Quantity - Butter Chicken $15.99 - The flavor was good. Was this supposed to be shredded chicken in the sauce? It could have used much more chicken, but there was plenty of sauce. I will go to Costco tomorrow to buy more naan for all the leftover sauce. Plain Rice $4.99 - A little steep for plain rice. He said this was large...? But it was in a small container... Confused. Garlic Naan $4.99 - As usual, or maybe I just love bread...? This was the hit of the meal. And dip it into the butter chicken sauce! So good. Mango Lassi - Good flavor, but this drink is so small. If you are following, I had "In N Out" for lunch today and put this drink next to my complimentary small water. See picture. Extensive menu. Lunch buffet. Decent beer options, two of them from India. See picture. Atmosphere - Small location. Plenty of parking. Table and bar seating. Mostly to-go customers. Only one customer dined in when we got here at prime dinner time. Available for private events. Open 6 days a week from 11:30am to 9pm or 9:30pm, closed Mondays. Service - Just okay, had to clarify why the prices were significantly different from the menu. Then I had to ask for utensils. Price - $35, expensive for what we got. Owner Comment - Can I suggest updating your menu? Or put a bigger/better disclaimer on the menu for the significant price change. Do you also own the location in Sparks?

I really wanted to love this place. I drive past it every day for work, and it always looks so pretty and festive. I love Indian food and typically go to the ones closer to my house near Midtown, but we decided to make the trip across town since we always talk about this restaurant but had never actually visited. While it looks very festive and inviting from the outside, the interior decor is nice but definitely outdated and in need of some upgrades. Upon arrival, we weren't offered menus and were expected to look at the selections on our phones via a QR code. Unfortunately, none of the items had pictures or descriptions, so we initially had to use Yelp to understand what the items were. When I asked for a menu, we were given one. The lady who sat and served us was very nice, but she seemed to be the only one working outside of the kitchen staff. We started with samosas, which seemed undercooked--they were white instead of golden brown, and the inside was only semi-warm, almost as if they had been cooked from frozen. I ordered tikka masala, which was good, but not great. The chicken was hard to eat is it had a lot of connective tissue left on it. My partner ordered an eggplant dish, though I can't remember the name. Altogether, the food was lacking. We noticed that they offer a lunch buffet, so I might go back to sample different dishes and see if there's something better to order next time. If we do go again, it will likely be for the buffet to give the place another try.

It's my mistake for assuming both Bawarchis in town will taste the same. This location in South Reno just did not hit the spot. I called in the order and they said they were backed up, so it would be 30-35 minutes. But it actually took an hour. For the butter chicken, the taste is there but it's not as flavorful as I hoped. I'm a little disappointed that none of the curries already come with rice. Especially considering the location in Sparks gives you rice with the curries. The naans were very very flat, but they had a good flavor to it. Indian food is a little pricey for the portion, in my opinion. The curries average around $16. Just the curry without rice. The naans around around $5, depending on which one you get, so actually that's a good price. The inside could use a little revamp. The leather on the benches are peeling off completely. Overall I wasn't satisfied with my experience here. Unfortunately, I won't be coming back to the South Reno location.

The samosa was fresh and not heated up from frozen. The food came out delicious and fairly quick. The rice was great to mix in with the buttered chicken. Also got garlic naan and it was so fresh with fresh garlic. Will be returning for the weekend buffet.

Totally empty Masala Dosa. Huge letdown.

My son wanted Indian recently when ordering from Postmates and I suggested we re-order from the place he chose last time. He wanted to try something new and suggested Bawarchi. I sighed. Their food and service have gone down over the years, and they always mess up my order if it's for delivery. He was set in his decision. He ordered butter chicken, rice, and naan. I asked for a Masala Dosa. The food took forever to arrive. When my sons butter chicken arrived he looked at it and said it already didn't look as good as the last place. Upon tasting it, he was again disappointed. Every mom wants to hear their teenager say "you're right mom," but not if it means they are stuck with a not great dinner. I can't say much about mine because my dosa came totally empty. I tried dunking it into the soup they gave me but to me, a dosa without the mashed potato filling is useless. Potatoes are my favorite food, mash them up, and it's true love. So receiving a dosa with nothing inside was a sad sad moment. I wrote to Postmates but this was one of the orders that could not receive any refunds. The receipt was right which means the store got the right order submitted, they just prepared it wrong. I really need to stop giving this place chance after chance because I'm always let down. I threw away the rest of my rice crepe and soup because it was lackluster and missing filling. My son didn't finish his butter chicken and said next time he would listen, and only order from the place he already rated "bussin bussin," to avoid any more letdowns. I've been fooled too many times by Bawarchi, with too many wrong orders received, too many hour or longer waits for pickup. I've ordered food, arrived to pick it up & have them tell me an hour after waiting that they ran out of pungalu and didn't want to make more for the night so I was only getting part of my order. That really bothered me because I had been physically waiting inside the restaurant for an hour, why not tell me an hour earlier so I could go somewhere else? This place began a shining star to me, somewhere I ate weekly, but with food quality declining, wait times increasing, and incorrect orders piling up, it's time to tap out and put this on the permanent no go list.

They are busy, but the food is worth the weight

Isha was our server, and even thought they were busy, she always found time to come to our table and attend to our requests Tonight, we tries their goat curry special and chicken Tikka masala. We also ordered samosas as an appetizer and they were made to perfection. Good crunch on the outside, seating well and warm. We also ordered a ghee dosa, and it was very good too. My suggestion is that you come on a day that you have time and patience. Sometimes they are understaffed and the person working that day (today it was Isha), they do everything they can to attend everyone in time and still serve tables and take orders on the front desk. I don't mind waiting for my food because the wait is worth it.

Should have taken a pic before I ate, but I was so hungry! (plastic cups)
    Noël C.

The food is excellent. My diet is vegan and gluten free, and I had some dishes altered and prepared special by these amazing people. Such spectacular service. I would have marked this 5 stars if there weren't so many single use waste items. All cups were plastic. Glass would have been preferable. And the to-go containers were styrofoam instead of paper. That was disappointing. The ambiance was nice. Quiet. The weather is turning cold, and the dining room temperature is a bit on the chilly side. Otherwise, excellent place to dine.

Why, why, why didn't I check out Barwarchi on Yelp before I ordered? Because I'd had their food many times in the past. Yes, I knew the service was terribly slow so I ordered ahead so that was OK, although the woman in the back who was apparently cooking yelled at the front-of-house guy, which was disconcerting. Price? Really expensive for what you get. Quality? It's gone really, really down. My chicken korma was about a 1/3rd fat and skin and I got a bonus piece of hair. Yes, that is a piece of white hair in my food next to the delicious (sarcastic) fat and skin. No, I won't be going back.

I had high hopes but sadly my expectations fell alittle short. I've been to the location in Sparks which I loved but this time I wasn't in the area so I figured to go to this one instead. When we got there, there was only one other pair dining in which were already about finished and yet, the service was extremely slow. And once the to -go orders started rolling in, we didn't see our server again. The food was simply ok. Not bad, not great just ok. I think it's safe to say, I don't think I'll be going back.

Barely any sauce given for the samosas.

Do they have buffet on weekends? How much? Are drinks included?

Will you be open tomorrow (December 25th)?

    Yes, we do Normal hours.

Do they have South Indian food like dosas, idlis and sambhar?

Yes, we sell several varieties of Dosa's, but no Idly. Our Dosa comes with 2 chutneys and Sambar too

Are any of their dishes dairy and egg free? I have allergies to both and while most Indian food has dairy (yogurt marinades) I love Indian flavors and miss it so! If I want it I make it at home myself dairy free (and egg free, of course). :) Thanks!

Hi - Yes! They do have a few vegan options (which are dairy and egg free). I'm unsure if they are safe if you have severe allergies though, I didn't quiz them on different food prep spaces, for example. They are very knowledgeable about ingredients… Read more

My kids came with this time and enjoyed the pineapple shrimp curry and the mango curry (I forget…read morethe unique name of the mango dish but on the menu it had a crown icon and was not the mango one with the basil)-- both entrees were ordered in mild. These flavors were completely new to me, I've never had curries from an Indian restaurant that tasted like these. The pineapple curry was sweet but a little tangy and reminded me a bit of Thai curry (perhaps turmeric was really elevated in this curry?). The mango curry was also very sweet, it almost tasted like a sweetened butter chicken curry (specifically the northern Indian version of butter chicken-- if you know, you know). My son said the sweet flavor of the mango chicken curry reminded him of orange chicken from Chinese takeout and funny enough I thought it actually kinda did too! While these dishes were a hit with the kids (ages 7, 5, and 2) most adult tastebuds would prefer ordering them with at least some spice to balance out the intense sweetness (otherwise it can just seem "1 note"-- but 1 note "mild" was absolutely perfect for our young children who find even ground black pepper to be "spicy" haha). Maharaja Royal Bites, you just keep impressing me! I'm super happy we found these kid friendly options in your menu. Oh, ps, the kids LOVED their fried chicken appetizer too! Yelpers, ahelpful tip, we've noticed that here a "mild" spicy level can vary based on the dish. Sometimes it means literally no spice (like in the kid-friendly pineapple shrimp and mango curry) and other times we have found that it meant "yes, there is spice, and it's certainly more noticeable than black-- or even white ground-- pepper).

There's no complaints there, but they didn't have Bhindi Ali, their Okra dish, it saddened me some. The rest of the meal I hoped would make up for it. We enjoyed their sampler (assorted snacks) which were an assortment of meat samosa, veggie samosa, chicken pakora, veggie pakoras and Aloo tikki. Delicious yet sizable bites to get you going. Their Lamb Curry, wonderfully made, tender. The sauce it was made with was delicious, the protein itself was gamy as to be expected, but day two after taking some home and eating it, not as much. Their Saag Paneer is what you would expect from most Indian restaurants, served piping hot, good cubes of cheese for texture and added flavor. Their Chicken Tikka masala was delicious, creamy, flavorful along with their garlic naan and of course we had to get Mango Lassis to drink. These are go to's in my opinion to determine your experience. They have to get these right and they didn't disappoint. The service was good, our waiters and hosts were kind and accommodating, I even got a little bit of history behind some of their wall art, the ambience was average, plenty of patrons holding conversations, enjoying meals, the music wasn't too loud from what I can recall, but it definitely carried the average volume. All in all, a wonderful visit. I recommend you try it for yourself.

This is by far one of the worst Indian buffets I've ever been to…read more 1.) Options are limited somewhat. Two carts worth of food whereas others have three to four carts. 2.) No soup and salads are very limited and basic. 3.) Chicken Tikka Masala was very sweet but lacked any savoriness. I couldn't distinguish spices beyond the sweet taste. The sauce was so red that there is no way to make it that red with little to no distinguishable tomato base flavor that I can only deduce that they used a ketchup base and red dye. Ketchup because I swear I can taste a hint of ketchup under the sweet flavor. 3.) Goat curry was ok at first. It still lacked flavors that are the hallmark of Indian cuisine. However, they brought a new batch out and this batch was too salty. It overpowered any little flavoring that was there before. The meat wasn't as tender and you can tell the brine was overly salty because the goat meat was salty. 4.) The veggies were a complete miss for me. Again, no flavor other than sourness that is the yogurt. 5.) Chicken curry was mush. And the flavor was assaulting my senses that I found it weirdly... stale like a damp wash cloth left overnight. 6.) Naan was decent actually. Not as garlicky or buttery as some other places but it was fresh and crunch and fluffy. Too bad nothing was available to eat it with. Maybe it's off today or something but I can't forgive the $21.00 price tag. If it was $17 or less then I wouldn't bother with a review but after a 15% tip it was almost $25 I think.

Time tax: Unless you are rolling with someone in a higher tier of the players club you are going to wait. Sad but true, Maybe I was at fault for arriving as late as I did around 7:20pm but I wasn't sat until closer to 8:30. The line was peculiar. So many people skipped ahead. There was only one person at the register. Occasionally the nice blonde manager lady would come over and ring a few parties up, the line went fast for a few seconds, but the chap at the register only worked fast when the manager came by. Otherwise he took his sweet time, he'd only rush if another VIP waiting to skip the line showed up. It was often, this buffet is popular and the skippers show up in force, especially late. Server Attention Tax: the servers on a normal day work hard, they close at 9:00, they warn you when 9 approaches and it's a wrap, on the seafood buffet days they are not motivated, because they stay late. They act like they aren't getting paid for the extra time. I sat down around 8:25 and no one took my drink order till like 8:40. I was worried I would get a single plate but to my surprise they didn't shut down shop right at 9:00 in fact they were still seating people. So that was cool. But the servers are in no rush. I don't want to get all Mr. Rogers about it, but if you get me my beverages sooner, I'll get out of your hair sooner, you are literally prolonging your own suffering here. The seafood Tax Rebate: the seafood is good, fresh fish, crab legs and all the regular sides. Crab is offered seasoned crab boil style or plain steamed, make sure to wander around. Overall: I love to eat good, I'm not crazy about flights, hotels or hardware stores because I don't think value necessarily is affected by where you go. (There are a few exceptions) I think service flavors cuisine, Here the service isn't adding a respectively great flavor. Sure if you spend a lot of money here you should get some priority but even Vegas doesn't forget about the little guy. I felt sorry for the people with kids in the line. Even though my server was slower than forest growth I still tipped them. But like value lost the taste was unpleasant. If you don't like being exposed to prejudice I assure you the 'regular line' WILL make you feel like you have no civil rights. But if you're able to suffer all that for a few rounds of delicious crab then you should go right on ahead, don't let me stop you
