pho is good!! I tried the beef stew as well, but I wasn't very impressed. not much broth, and it was very thick. Had a lot of meet which is good for me, but didn't like the noodle that much. Maybe get it with rice or bread is better Had some egg rolls and they were really good, and we shared prime rib special. Pretty good too! I went there at 1am on Monday, so of course it was easy to get in sit and everything. I don't think I'll go there after a party night tho, seems a small place and might get crowded. I like the fact that they have every single kind of food! and is not expensive. This is a pretty nice card room, much better than M8trix across the street. The dealers are good and the staff is friendly. They have free coffee and tea which is cool. They also have a snack bar as well as a bar/grill. The food is decent. The CA games have horrible odds, but its's California so they're no different than other card rooms. read more

Just came here with a couple of friends and the bubz to eat. When we came in, the guy at the front will ask you for your ID, so come ready with it. All I saw mostly is card tables, there's no slot machines at all here. The food was mediocre and it took them until the end of our meal to refill our water (20-25 min wait). I occasionally play cards here during random circumstances of the year. Nice wide range of limits to play and big card room. The food is also fairly priced and great; even when they serve you at the table. If you had a choice to play here or Garden City I would recommend here. The only reason why I would go to play at Garden City over Bay 101 is that they actually use Clay chips (I Hate the plastic chips they use over at Bay 101) but other than that this place is better than Garden City in every other way. The security at the casino is pretty good, although I would say I wish they had more security in the parking lot. During rare occasions, players you beat at the table (and are still mad about it) will follow you out and give you crap. Have been hearing some rumors about their food here. So I was here with a few friends for some late night munchies. At first I was pretty skeptical about it, but guess what, it wasn't too bad at all. I actually liked their eggrolls and the $8 prim rib. The only thing I gotta say was that the mashed potatoes with gravy....well, not my type of mashed potatoes. I grew up in SJ and constantly passed Bay 101 while on the freeway. I've been hearing everyone rant and rave about how their prime rib is so cheap and so good. I decided to try it after a night of drinking. 1st thought was, WHY IS IT SO BRIGHT IN HERE? I have never been to a casino like this. It was very strange. But this review isn't for the casino. It's for the restaurant inside. 1. It's SUPER SMALL inside. 2. Service sucks 3. Prime rib was cheap and big but it's too chewy, almost like rubber. The mashed potatoes tasted like cardboard. I been going to the matrix and bay 101 for about 15 years now. Since the new Bay 101 open, is wasn't what I expected. Correct me if I am wrong, when a business move to a new location it suppose to bigger and better. Instead it gotten worst. Pro: New Casino. That is all I can think of. Con: Smaller and all the table are too close together. No more WPT. Smaller tournament. No more complimentary coffee,tea,hot water,and etc. Food are over price and foods staff need more training. Deli gotten smaller. Bring back chicken noodle soup and menudo. I started laughing when they want you to rent a charger for the day to charge your phone. My work loves Bay 101! I swear they come once a week for Happy Hour! The location is prime. It's right next to 101 and close to SJ airport. The bar setting is outside and a lot of space in the outside sitting. The few times that I've been there. Remember this is a card's room, not a casino. It's a nice poker place, as in pretty big and always have games going on. They also have variety of games from Omaha to limit to no limit. I don't like that they make you pay on the button so making the games 2-3-5 for posting for a reg 2/5 no limit game. I think for games like black jack or baccarat, you have to pay $1 a hand no matter what. The food is decent here. I tried the pho last time and the soup and meatballs were really good. read more

I play 6/12 Texas limit hold'em poker at all the card clubs in the San Francisco Bay Area and once a month I find the time to play at Bay 101 Casino. The collection of $5 is high and the city of San Jose does not allow bad beat jackpots. I play late Fridays or during WPT Shooting Star satellites where the opponents are not regulars and less likely to collude. It's always nice to make a few bucks. Unless it is a new game, one must post $6 to enter, so there is no free ride. The best time to post is when the button is next to you on your right to play the maximum amount of hands before the big/small blind comes around. The big blind is $6 and small blind is $2. When chopping , $1 is taken from the small blind. If a player takes down a pot without a flop, the collection is $1. No flop, no drop does not exist here. The dealers and staff are second to none at running a poker room. I've known them for years and they are as professional as it gets. The coffee is free and complimentary magazine issues of Card Player, Poker Player, Ante Up, 2 Pair, and The Cardroom are always available. Chris Yeo is a hack and shouldn't ever run a restaurant again. Standalone or in a casino. How the hell are you going to not have an up charge option for adding noodles to a wonton soup? Further more how the hell are you going to serve a wonton soup with no chopsticks or soup spoon? And how are you going to send out a wonton soup with no damn wontons? Your civil engineering for your parking lot makes no sense. I get that it's partially still in construction. But who's bright idea is it to block off part of the parking lot with cones to create a dead end forcing a 3 point u-turn when it's already paved to go through back to the rest of the open parking. Finally your driveway out to the street has no signs saying no left turn or one way only and the poor lighting and construction cones forced me into an island dividing the road ruining my new tires that I've had for less than 30 miles. Poker Review: I played the 1/2/2 No Limit Hold'em on a Saturday Night. This place was pretty busy, there was little wait. The Rake was $5 if you saw a flop, and preflop, even though the blinds were 2/2, there was a mandatory $4 bring in, which no one explained until I tried to enter the hand. The action itself was good. The atmosphere was a little dated, trying to look like the Bellagio in the 90's. They had free tea/coffee/water stations which meant no waiting for Waitresses. Beer was ~$6 for a blue moon, cheaper than m8trix, but IMO still expensive. Last call was at 1AM, but this is more a city rule than a casino one. read more

As far as poker rooms go, the Bay 101 is pretty nice. It's spacious and bright inside because it's partially lit by natural light. The restaurants are decent. They also have fast card shufflers built into the tables so you get to see a lot of hands. As far as the players go, I guess they seemed like any other players in Bay Area casinos. They're a bit boring and low-energy. But people from the Bay Area are just like that. I should know, I've lived here all my life. It's a lot better than playing with Vegas locals who seem to be 90% jerks. Vegas tourists are the best to play with since they mainly just want to have a good time. There is one thing that seemed a little odd at the Bay 101. They had a a TON of limit games going but I had to wait around for almost two hours for them to start the first spread limit game ($5-$200). There aren't any no limit games but the spread limit is very close. An interesting thing happened to me when I got involved in a hand where I had the "nuts" -- top set. A guy raised me and when I went to re-raise him back, probably because I was a little nervous, I said "I call and I raise...". At that moment, the owner of the Bay 101 came over because he happened to overhear me. He was wearing a cowboy hat and looked really old school. Because I'm young and probably look really green he decided to help me out a bit and explain that once you say "I call" you can't raise after that. I should've just said "I raise". You always see it in the movies he said. He was amused at the thought. I had a good time and I definitely plan on going back. read more

You have all the cracked out gamblers playing, then you have all the club go-ers in the restaurant after 2am. I myself fall victim in coming here for the munchies after dancing the night away somewhere downtown. It's just hard to resist when they have the $8 prime rib special, and they have pho so we don't need to go to a pho spot. They have variations of different kinds of food here. You just can't go wrong. And it's also fun watching friends eat the balut, since I don't swing that way. This review is for the food only, and a whopping 5 stars at that. Why? The food honestly is not the best in the world, but there are a lot of reasons. Its relatively cheap. Generally good to very good food. They are open 24 hrs a day. They serve almost anything you can crave: pho, khalbi, wontons, steak, eggs, breakfast, balut, calamari, tacos...it goes on and on. Came back on a weeknight to see if the place has changed any. After walking into the cafe, the answer is a big NO. Same layout, same menu, and apparently they now offer Filipino breakfast items like toscino with garlic fried rice. I didn't even know what I was ordering because I saw "garlic fried rice" and I was already on board. The prices have gone up a bit since I last came here and they do charge tax now. As for the service, one waitress does everything here. Serving food, taking orders, and drink refills all taken care of my one person. Unfair? For sure! Wait time? Lengthy. Apparently the ownership saw fit to buy their flatscreen TVs in bulk as this place may literally have over a hundred displays in here. There may even be a time where the Men's Room sign will be replaced a flat LCD display that says "Men" on there. But I digress... I've only ever been to the restaurant here, never gambled. The food is great, and they have a huge variety to choose from... from Pho to burgers. I usually go for breakfast on the weekend. The guy that works there is cool; he remembers us and remembers what we like. The only two things I don't care for here are the number of TVs (yes I realise it's a sports thing), and the slow service. There must be one cook in the back because it takes a while to get your order. I do like that I get carded every time I walk into the building. I'm going to do everyone a favor and make this is a review for gamblers and foodies alike :) I agree with all the other Yelpers - the food her ROCKS! Although the prime rib was $23 not $8 and it's only available between 5pm - midnight. The hot pastrami sammy is definitely delicious - thanks to the other reviews for the suggestion!! They have everything Asian & Mexican on offer, as well as breakfast foods! If you're used to going to Vegas for gambling, imagine Fremont St casinos or perhaps the likes of Imperial Palace, before heading here. Have an open mind & very very low expectations (as I did before going last night - thanks to the hi-maintenance Yelpers who've left reviews here) and you'll leave happy. Unexpected plus points: - This place has higher ceilings than most dingy casinos; - They bring food to your table while you gamble - can be gross for others crowded around you though; - You can meet some really nice/down-to-earth people here; - The food is delish and service is quick & friendly. - The floor managers are actually really nice and friendly, unlike the moody ones in Vegas. Oh and there's no smoking; - Lastly, they have a wall lined with complimentary non-alcoholic beverages like ice-tea, ice-water, hot tea, coffee and lemon wedges! The not so great points: - It's wayyy too bright for a casino! - The carpets don't look like they've seen a vacuum cleaner in months!! - The dealers don't crack a smile or make conversation or help (tell you "what the book says"). - They don't serve alcohol on the casino floor, but they will bring beverages to your table for a price. Everyone's usually walking around with Styrofoam mugs of coffee or water *ick* - Super tacky looking place so don't dress up too much or else you'll stick out like a sore thumb! It's also testosterone central (all of Man-Jose is in there), so ladies - it can feel a tad like a meat market where YOU'RE the game on sale! *ugh* All in all - we enjoyed the experience! My bro-in-law had to wait more than two hrs for a spot at the poker tables, but we played blackjack and ate some food in the meantime. We both ended up winning $$ and left the casino happy. Service is horrible! Ordered food and drinks at restaurant and our food came before the drinks? Now the food was pretty good, but they still have some growing pains to get through. Ordered a drink while playing a card game and the waitress brought me a shot of vodka and a shot of cranberry. No ice! I ordered a vodka/cranberry and got this rude waitress who said it was her 2nd day and she didn't get any training? She called us rude and I'm not sure, but aren't we the customers who pay for the drinks? Really...a vodka/cranberry comes without ice!?!? They defiantly have a ways to go? Go to Matrix until they figure it out. Matrix is great to watch football or just a nice place to have a drink or some food for a reasonable price. I vote for Matrix at this point! read more

They took all the best features of the old Bay101 and threw them out the window, then added all the worst features of M8trix, then created all new horrible features and called it the new Bay101. Really a shame. The old place was So much better. As soon as you walk in you are on the casino floor. No lobby area to speak of. A few big chairs at one end but no tables. The snack bar used to be great, now it's pathetic. No more free coffee, let alone the gourmet type they used to serve. No free tea. No free water. The bathroom has one quarter the stalls of the old place. The lighting is dark, unlike the old brightly lit place. The poker tables are crammed together in one small corner, with no room for wheelchairs or people walking around or food carts. Not that anyone orders food any more, since the prices have been jacked up to ridiculous levels. And you can't pay with chips any more, which is inconvenient at best and serves to just slow down all the transactions. The feeling of security in the old building, and even the old parking lot, is gone. The elevated floorperson area is gone, so visibility into the room by the floor staff is reduced. The WPT has abandoned the place and will never be back, for good reason. Clearly no one involved in the design of this place is a poker player, unlike the old place which was excellently layed out. I honestly can say it's hard to imagine doing a worse job of complete redesign of what used to be a really nice place. Bay101 -- Rest In Peace. read more

I played at the old card room for years and there were two things that stood out. Reasonably priced delicious food and a super friendly service team. Those are missing here and I'm sad to hear it. I used to order mongolian beef and a corona and pay $15 including my tip. I ordered the same thing and got a smaller portion in a plastic bowl for $23 NOT including tip. It's a beautiful card room but I come to play not for the ambiance. Hopefully they can get more reasonable on pricing soon. We shouldn't be overpaying to cover the cost of your new casino. If you're going to make an upper class ambiance try using real dishware at least. It's a shame. read more

Great poker room, really takes care of their players. At their big buy-in tournaments, the room offers a full breakfast and dinner buffet, and the food is actually good! Don't know why they insist on starting their tournaments at 10:45am, though... that's way too early for a poker player! read more

A friend and I wanted to grab drinks and finger foods and catch up on things. I had been in meetings with demanding clients all day, so to see the smile on the face of the server was very refreshing. She was so pleasant and took the time to recommend drinks and food to us (I believe her name was Cas). We had a few cocktails and ordered a few of the items from the Happy hour menu. I'm looking at one of the previous reviews of this place that says "I would never go alone." Its kinda of funny because people who go here alone probably have a problem with gambling. Went here for the first time about a month ago with a friend (who enjoys various gambling) after dinner. We both came in and checked it out and parted ways, I watched the blackjack tables for open spots while my friend waited around for a spot one of the poker tables. Place was very crowded on Labor Day, but I figured that I should watch a few tables to get a feel for their specific tables rules for BJ here. Ended up watching some good tables turn bad, never being able to sit down to a table on the upswing. You might have heard this before, but this place is full of Vietnamese gamblers... also of some people who stink of fish sauce. They seem to actually serve food to gamblers at the tables, I thought this was kind of funny. After 1.5-2 hours my friend was done with poker and had lost $100, I came out losing nothing luckily. read more

Open late at night, but really crowded. First I would like to explain that if you are looking for a place with excellent service this is not the place. Took us about a good 10 min to get seated which was not bad. I had ordered the cheese cake and prime rib. I had asked to get the cheese cake first, I normally eat my desert first because I never have room after the meal. So the cheese cake tasted like Costco cheese that is about a couple of days old in the fridge without any plastic wrap cover over the food and top of that it was really dry. This casino is ok. Just that. I went in looking for slots and also roulette tables, unfortunately they did not have that. I did get a couple of good winnings at the baccarat table, but the dealers don't really interact with the players. You have to pay $1 per hit which is unfortunate, but part of the rules here. The waitress were nowhere to be found unless you're at the high roller poker table. I had to get up and pay for a coffee at one of their concession stands. Not much music playing in the background so it's mainly people talking. But if you know how to play and want to earn some cash this is the place. read more
