Review is for the card room of poker only. Large card room. Ok, folks, this is NOT a casino. This is a city card room. So, don't expect Las Vegas or Indian casino style play. They are restricted by the City of San Jose of what they can and cannot do. Bay 101 can offer 49 tables. This is split by the poker playing contingent on one side with various limits. Lowest entry is now 3/6 limit. Goes up to high stakes No Limit. Asian side has variety of Asian games plus normal blackjack. Place is clean, plenty of free parking, complimentary coffee, tea, water. On the poker side you can order meals and beverages (yes, you can get alcoholic beverages delivered to your table). Food is usually tasty. Asian selections are best. No smoking of course inside. Has a small deli/snack bar for treats. Bay 101 does a very nice job. Floor persons and dealers are generally friendly. In my opinion, it is a cut above the only other San Jose card room. read more

This review is for the Deli. The place looks trashy but don't let it fool you. This place makes by far one of the best Chinese food and pastas and the prices are dirt cheap. I like to come here after a quick win and head on out. The service is very good and the wait staff is very tentative and friendly. The guy with the glasses and moustache usually chit chats with me when I come in and always asks for refills on my soda which is free. My recommendation for this place is anything Chinese. I'm not saying this because I'm like a American who can't tell the difference between bad Elephant Bar & PF Chang's so called Chinese food from what you get from a 99 Ranch super market fast food. This place knows who to stir fry their sh*t like real Chinese restaurants and even taste like it. My favorite is the Chow Fun noodles. You can't go wrong with the Combination style as you get seafood, pork, chicken and beef on it. If Western Style is more your taste, You can't go wrong with the sandwiches or burgers with fries. Burgers are juicy and I really like the thick cut fries. Anything pasta with the Alfredo sauce is good. I feel like they use really good ingredients. I wish they served this on their regular menu but it's a today's special I had one time which was the seafood pasta which had salmon, scallops and shrimps in a Alfredo sauce which I could taste the delicate white wine they used in the sauce. The capers on the dish was a nice touch. Pastas are always served with garlic or bread sticks with butter. I'm not a big guy but can eat a lot, the portions are always big no matter what you order and really sometimes I can't finish what they serve. I wish this place wasn't in the casino so I could go to it more often. read more

If you're going to give this place a review, make sure you are rating the casino, people! Also make sure you keep your moral issues to yourself -- If you are against gambling, then stay the frick out! You wouldn't want to read a vegan's review of a steakhouse, so keep your anti-gambling comments to yourself! As far as California cardrooms go, this place is mediocre. They don't offer No Limit yet, but I have heard (and seen on their TV commercial) that they will be offering it soon. There are about 4 or 5 "spread limit" games going on Friday/Saturday night and you can usually get good "No limit like" action on these days. The wait isn't too bad -- you'll maybe wait 20 minutes for a seat when it's busy. There are ways of getting a seat faster, but I'm not about to give up all my secrets! The rake is a bit high. $5 if you see a flop, period. It seems like the brick and mortar casinos are starting to use this as a standard method for collecting rake, so perhaps it's not too bad. One weird thing about the spread limit game is that the blinds are $2, $3, $5, where the dealer button posts $2. This isn't that bad, but the strange thing is that if there's a chopped pot before the flop, the dealer is the one who gives up the $1 rake! They probably do this to encourage the button to raise the blinds so they can increase their chances of seeing the flop and making an extra $4. Like I said, this is a review on the cardroom/casino. If you're in San Jose, you don't have a lot of choices, so that is why this place is rated so high. You can play poker here and make money if you're skilled. If you're looking for a Vegas like experience, flights to Reno, Tahoe and Vegas are cheap! read more

Sutters Cafe - review only So after seeing an ad for their prime rib dinner and the fact that my wife was craving prime rib, I figured I go on the cheap and take her here. It turns out that it wasn't so cheap unless it was between 1-7AM but surprisingly good. We were here at about 6pm last night. So driving up to this place kinda made me nervous since I've never been here, but always wanted to see what it was about. Dark yellow lighting probably due to the airport. Smokers galore parked outside off to the side. You can smell them as you walk up. Once you walk in, its another world. Well lit establishment. I spent a couple of seconds looking for Sutters Cafe, only to find out it was right in front of me. It was heavily disguised as a bar/waiting area. Seated ourselves, but was helped promptly. Surrounded by 15+ flat screens with with World Series, MNF, some NBA game, WSOP and another sport had me going crazy of what screen to watch. Wife ordered the prime rib ($23) and I had the Manila clams ($7.50). I was a bit sketchy on the clams, but boy where they good. I had a sneaking suspicion that they would be pretty good with asian foods giving the looks of the clientele at the cafe or even in the entire card room. I also had a hotlink and fries ($2.50) as a World Series special. Wow, a 24hr spot to eat. Great food. Decent service. Crazy amount of visual stimulation of the television kind. After you get over the fact of its odd location, you'll be happy you chose this place over Denny's. read more

I dropped by the poker tables this afternoon for an exploratory visit. I didn't stay long enough to get hungry and cannot speak to the food. I have been playing with some friends and was curious how it compares. I agree with about half of what others have said: the place is bright, has high ceilings, does not allow smoking, had a lot of tables going strong on a saturday afternoon, and the rake is brutal for a low stakes game - I blame this on paternalistic California law, since that is what precludes percentage rakes. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I actually dislike the smoky, dim nature of many casinos, so bright, high-ceilinged and smoke-free are huge plusses! I encountered only helpful and or friendly staff away from the table. I indicated it was my first time there and asked questions of a few of them and they were very pleasant - it may come from having treated them pleasantly and courteously. Of my three dealers at a $3/$6 table, two were neutral/aloof and one was funny/cool. My one mark against the place is that there is a slightly raised, steel bar on the floor that seems intended either to keep people from putting their feet forward or to allow short people to rest their feet - I am pretty tall and I found that it made it impossible for me to stretch out my bad knee with the ten of us at the table (9 + dealer). read more

Best competition in the Bay... well limit wise at least. Bay 101 is where I learned to play poker 4 and a half years ago. What a difference a few years make. I went from having 62 year old bag ladies want to kick my ass for taking their social security check with a bad beat, I had a 40 year old west African man say to me, "You Fuck Motha Bitch" and there was this time a player said if I sit at his table, he's leaving... to now actually being respected. What can I say.. I thought any King was good. I was a beginner. They have some sharks at every table.. no matter the limit.. I would recommend to anyone wanting to learn to start here. They have the most tables in Northern California. This is not a place for entertainment, unless you are playing blackjack or something like that on the other side of the Casino. After a night of drinking, my friends suggested a place we could eat. As we rode up to Bay 101, I soon asked myself why the hell are we driving up to a casino?! Turns out there's a restaurant inside the Casino. It's open 24 hours. And though it's no Lucky Chances, it's close enough. The Prime Rib dinner is probably the deal breaker. But my first time I went with the Chorizo meal. It was appealing. But it was a big turn off when they gave me the tortillas and the plated meat with eggs. Bummer. Personally, I don't like to work as I eat. But hey, HUNGER GET WHAT HUNGER WANT. Second time I came here, I had Pho. I know, I know. Pho is cheaper at other places, especially in San Jose. But nothing else looked appetizing so I went with a safe bet. No regrets. I'm glad I discovered Bay 101. It's just another place I can tack on to my list of 24 hour hot spots. It's up to 4 now. Yay. And so if you're in the mood to gamble, I guess you can come here. But if you're looking for some late night eats, Bay 101 is another place worth trying. read more

Been a bay 101 customer for many years. The new casino started out with lots of negatives but they have worked hard to make the players comfortable and welcome. Floor staff try hard to make players happy but as we all know, "you can't please everyone"! So, I give them 4 stars for effort. The Province takes care of food&drink service to the players. Food is fair, prices are high especially drink prices! They always seem to be out of something or removing a popular item from the menu. One bright spot for the province is Happy Hour for the players at the tables. If the owners of the province can understand that this is NOT Santana Row but a cardroom full of eager customers wanting good food&drinks at reasonable prices. Hubby and I went here last night to check it out, because we'd heard there was a casino very close to our house. I've only been to casinos in Vegas so I was expecting slot machines, loud noises, lots of drinks, etc. This was VERY different- first of all, everyone was in their sweatpants, and they were kinda shady looking. Granted, in Vegas it's not like everyone is a movie star, but for the most part they make an effort to clean up before heading out. Last night's attendees looked like they stopped by on their way to the homeless shelter (hmmm) - one guy was cruising around with a greasy pork rib in his hand. So anyway, it appears that there's just card games here, it's very very brightly lit, smells vaguely of smoke, and was surprisingly quiet. Hubby said it smelled like human desperation. All in all a depressing stop on our journey. The most tasteful part of this place was the fish tanks- they were beautifully maintained and filled with amazing fish. read more

The only reason why I give this place 1 star is because they have the WORST SERVICE EVER!!!!! It's always the same bitch workers that help me every time I'm there. They never listen and they always act like bitches. Other than that, Being drunk and getting the PRIME RIB SPECIAL is super good and cheap, 12oz Prime rib, steamed veggies, and smashed potatoes for under 10 dollars. The only place I play in the bay. The floorman give you great customer service. The dealers, except for a few, are kind and know what their doing. The restroom and actual casino is constantly super clean. The food here is whatever. They have a large selection on their menu, but everything is just edible to okay. The building looks nice.. but some of the guys that go there are creepy, glaring their nasty stares across the room.. just creepy.. bring a body guard.. lol I wouldn't play their personally because you have to leave sometime and those creepy people scare me.. For those who want to gamble but can't afford a trip to either Vegas or an Indian Reservation; than Bay 101 is one of your only choices. This is an example of how looks can be deceiving. You were expecting a half-ass casino but walk inside and its really bland like a bargain store (it also smells like one too). One could also feel the aroma of desperation rather than fun. I will never play here. I have a rule, I don't play poker where they have regulars that play poker there all day every day. No point in playing people who know you're not a regular and play together just to get your money. No fun. Also, not gonna play cards at a place that doesn't shuffle in front of me. No thanks. I've dealt at casinos, and if you don't see the cards shuffled in front of you for every single game, something's up. I'll only come here for the food. The late night prime rib is always good. The restaurant itself is closed late night, but the cafe is open, and if you order from one of the floor waitresses, you can order that infamous $13 prime rib and eat it in the cafe. But of course, don't expect superb service. They pretty much get you your food and that's it. Once in a while you'll get some great service, depends on the person working. read more

Beautiful facilities, but they employ distant and cold dealers. I expect card rooms to project a sense of coziness-like I'm playing at a friend's house, but 101 is far from that. As for poker, they only have limit because Santa Clara county regulations prevent them from no-limit games. If you like to watch the World Series of Poker, you should check out their website, b/c they hold a few tournaments here. I been going to the matrix and bay 101 for about 15 years now. Since the new Bay 101 open, is wasn't what I expected. Correct me if I am wrong, when a business move to a new location it suppose to bigger and better. Instead it gotten worst. Pro: New Casino. That is all I can think of. Con: Smaller and all the table are too close together. No more WPT. Smaller tournament. No more complimentary coffee,tea,hot water,and etc. Food are over price and foods staff need more training. Deli gotten smaller. Bring back chicken noodle soup and menudo. I started laughing when they want you to rent a charger for the day to charge your phone. Yo Bay 101 Matrix you can charge your phone or any kind of electronic devices for free. You can charge them while you are smoking or playing on a table. As much as you want. Bay 101 does not care about there customers. They are all about making money. read more

Well, I can't really give this place bad ratings because the first 2 times I walked out of here, I came out happy. I do agree with some of the reviews on here though about it being crowded. I decided to come here on a weekend with one of my poker buddies, and this was my first live experience gambling. We waited a good 30-45 minutes both times to be seated for the 2-5 NLHE poker table. I was finally seated at a full table, which was a much older crowd both times. Everyone was 35+ at the table, and my buddy and I were the only 21/23 year olds. Here's where the Yelp gods pour all the love onto Bay 101. First hand, they ship me $500. SOLD. Next time I came back, shipped me $200. SOLD AGAIN. I haven't been back since because I'm an online poker junkie, but will go back if I ever crave the live action that's going on. They also have a bunch of other games, which I don't know how to play because I just stuck with what I think will make me the monies. The place overall is very bland compared to other casinos, and is actually quite tiny for a casino...what do you expect though right? Also, the food here is not bad for casino food. I've played at a few other casinos where they bring food to the tables, and Bay 101 is one of the cheaper/better places. So you can come in here hungry and have some pretty good food, and kill a little time with what little (or lot) bucks you may have... Also, they strictly enforce ID policy so don't think about bringing your kid brother in here or they'll have to lay the smackdown on his candyass... read more

All these zombie's turn into your own personal ATM machine. Best time to play is a Sunday morning around 7 a.m. and just steal pots because they are falling asleep with cards in their hands. One a Friday night there are some good players running around taking chips, most of the goofs here are just calling down, especially with King -4 off or some other ridiculous hand. If you have already read ANY poker book and stick to the top 2 tiers of hands, you can make money here. I hate the No-Bust 21 here. If it was Nevada style rules on the Black Jack Table, I'd clean up and retire. The dealers there are too dumb to know the card counters swooping in on a +15 shoe. Completely laughable. I see stuff that will get you tossed from Tahoe in 15 minutes go on for hours here. Overall a very nice card room with lots of action. read more

My work loves Bay 101! I swear they come once a week for Happy Hour! The location is prime. It's right next to 101 and close to SJ airport. The bar setting is outside and a lot of space in the outside sitting. The few times that I've been there. Believe me I don't come here to gamble! I come here to eat! They offer everything here! Prime Rib, Steak, Chicken fetticini, BBQ Roast Duck Noodle Soup, Pho, Sandwhiches, to Oysters!. They have something for everyone....who's 21 and over that is. When you walk up to the sliding doors in the front, you might see men smoking their lungs out, a security guard checking ID, and men hustlin to make ends meet... Sometimes they look as if they haven't been home for a few days.... eek! But don't let that discourage you from walking in. The restaurant is pretty darn good. If the restaurant is closed, which is like after midnight or so, you can eat at the tables out front, but good luck finding a waitress at those times. The asian food is authentic, the oysters on the half shell are a-ok, and the sandwiches couldn't be any better. They also have Breakfast and weekend menus I believe. But check it out for yourself. It's worth trying. I particularly like the BBQ Duck noodle soup and chicken fetticini. I would say I like the oysters, but I've had the best at Fish Market, so I can't say that. Chris Yeo is a hack and shouldn't ever run a restaurant again. Standalone or in a casino. How the hell are you going to not have an up charge option for adding noodles to a wonton soup? Further more how the hell are you going to serve a wonton soup with no chopsticks or soup spoon? And how are you going to send out a wonton soup with no damn wontons? Your civil engineering for your parking lot makes no sense. I get that it's partially still in construction. But who's bright idea is it to block off part of the parking lot with cones to create a dead end forcing a 3 point u-turn when it's already paved to go through back to the rest of the open parking. Finally your driveway out to the street has no signs saying no left turn or one way only and the poor lighting and construction cones forced me into an island dividing the road ruining my new tires that I've had for less than 30 miles. After a brief Halloween night of dinner and drinks and basketball @ D&B, a few of us headed over to Bay 101. Two of us played $3-$6 Limit Hold'em, while C and I laughingly entertained ourselves with $10 and a MegaTouch console (you know, those bar-top touchscreen game machines?). We were there for almost 4 hours! The casino itself is brightly lit and clean, but something about cardhouses without the glitz and glamour and wreckless abandon of Vegas just turns me off to gambling. And the clientelle... there's an eerie vibe of both desperation and sketchiness to this crowd for the most part... Sutter's, the bar/restaurant, is my main attraction to the place. Its open 24/7 and serves up a wide array of dishes from simple salads to steaks to pho to "wtf? balut?!". They know they're customers/demographic; quite a bit of asian fare, Chinese, Vietnamese, including the occasional 'silog for Filipinos. I can't say anything is done really well or outstanding, but if its late enough that Sutter's is one of your few options? It's not bad... Bonus, the drink prices aren't bad, and they pour with a heavy hand... 2 Bay Breezes, 3 Bloody Marys, 3 Hennessy's... $40ish. Not bad at all. read more

I have never gambled here. FYI But people usually go here for the late night craving for Prime Rib since it's cheap. Not many people know that they have the best pastrami sandwiches in the bay area! NO JOKE!!!! Drunk or sober, the pastrami sandwich never fails me. The servers aren't the nicest, but I dont blame them since they are serving groups of drunk people usually. Where my live-poker experience began. Haven't frequented this place nearly as much as I did once upon a time... but it still kind of feels like a 2nd (or 3rd) home to me. Sign-ups for poker tables are now computerized (they used to be manned, whiteboards back in the day). Since I actually last played here, they've also expanded the poker room to an adjacent room from the main floor. I finally got a chance to see what this place was all about when I was in the area. I had heard so much about the club from friends in my office that I had to check-it-out. My curiosity got to me and it had to be satisfied. When I got there, the building looks nicely maintained and it looks like very welcoming with the shiny front doors and great looking water fountain with a sculpture of dolphins swimming. On the inside, it was very clean and neat. I just saw two sections of card games and a lot of players at the tables. Since I do not gamble, I went to the cafe to see what the offering were like because it was almost snack time. The cafe had some nice offerings and it was surprising that there were a lot Asian foods available at this establishment. The cafe was a nice and neat one. The prices were great for early morning food but I was there at the wrong time, therefore, I settled for a drink and some chips at the snack bar. Now that I have settled my curiosity, I will be back for a meal when I am in the area. However, it was nice to just walk around the building and grounds! read more

pho is good!! I tried the beef stew as well, but I wasn't very impressed. not much broth, and it was very thick. Had a lot of meet which is good for me, but didn't like the noodle that much. Maybe get it with rice or bread is better Had some egg rolls and they were really good, and we shared prime rib special. Pretty good too! I went there at 1am on Monday, so of course it was easy to get in sit and everything. I don't think I'll go there after a party night tho, seems a small place and might get crowded. This is a pretty nice card room, much better than M8trix across the street. The dealers are good and the staff is friendly. They have free coffee and tea which is cool. They also have a snack bar as well as a bar/grill. The food is decent. The CA games have horrible odds, but its's California so they're no different than other card rooms. read more
