For about a month I had been having problems with my air gap shooting out water whenever I ran my dishwasher. I looked on YouTube and unsuccessfully tried to fix it myself by cleaning the air gap from the top. I had used Boris before for my family home so I knew he was reliable and trustworthy. We set up a time, he arrived 10 minutes early and he replaced my air gap (12.99) and hose (9.99) and charge me his hourly fee (250.00) for labor. It took him about 20 minutes to fix the problem and I am VERY happy. I do believe this is the going rate since I had some electrical outlets that were out and it cost me the same hourly rate to have an electrician come out and fix the problem. We had a plugged toilet which I could not get to drain on my own, so called Bay Area Plumbing and spoke to Boris. We had used him in the past for another plumbing issue and liked the service and found his work good and pricing fair. Boris showed up slightly earlier than his estimated arrival time which was good. With one swirl of the mini snake down the toilet he freed up the drain and we were in business. All was good until came payment time, which I was really surprised at. He charged us $150 for about 3 minutes of work and was on his way. I do understand overhead costs, his time etc., but being a repeat customer I was quite surprised it wasn't in the $75-$100 range. I called (presumably) Boris this evening about a clogged toilet that overflowed all over my bathroom and which I still need fixing urgently. He said someone could be over in 30 minutes and quoted me $450 if the job took no more than an hour. I asked if they could clean up the water on the floor meaning remove the water from the floor and he responded, No, we don't do cleaning. I repeated several times that I didn't mean clean the floor, but rather remove the water that had overflowed onto the floor. He responded that they could "vacuum" it up if it wasn't too much. He then noted that if it went over an hour, even by 5" that would be another $450 for each additional hour. I said that seemed exorbitant and his response was that it might not take more than just a few minutes. I asked if these were his standard fees, as his rates seemed much higher than those cited by people who had used him per recent Yelp Reviews. He said his fees were posted on his website and when I noted that I was looking at his website and they weren't, he asked if I had called Router Rooter about their fees, implying that because his fees are low in comparison that they are somehow reasonable. I was just shocked that he was charging more than some medical professionals who have many years of education and provide services involving high levels of skill. read more

Started the day with clogged kitchen sink and water leaking into lower cabinet. Called BAP, and was originally told that the plumber would come by later in the afternoon. That was ok, "better later than never". Nice dispatcher called me back to say the plumber had finished a job early, so he'd be over shortly. On another occasion I didn't get an immediate response to a phone message. In that case it wasn't an emergency so I didn't followup right away either, so wouldn't draw a conclusion from that. I debated writing this, but it haunts me. I needed someone to come over and repair a washer turn handle. It was spraying water. I got a quote from this guy and he said "$275 to replace the handle". I agreed to this. He was late. When he showed up, he said all he did was tighten the handle. He charged $250. I asked him to change the handle for the agreed $275 price. He made excuses...all it needed was to be tightened, it's in a box and it is hard to get too, blah blah blah". I said "yon are really going to charge me $250? You didn't do anything but turned a wrench one time". He said "yes, for the visit". I told him I wanted to pay an additional $25 to replace the handle. He told me he "cannot access it, it will cost more, he never said that". I have texts that he said this. Any other repair person would charge half the price just to turn a wrench. Not $275 and refuse to replace it because "he can't". I still feel ripped off! He also wanted to charge me $275 to fix a dryer vent. I got it done for $100 with someone else. read more
