Advanced Plumbing & Drain solved a huge problem when the upstairs residents of a duplex building tried to snake their own shower and got the snake irretrievably stuck deep in the plumbing of the building. Dylan tried valiantly to get it out from the top, but it became clear it was going to require cutting open the ceiling of the bathroom below to cut open the pipe. Dylan gave me a clear estimate and came back to do the job, but then it turned out the snake had gone further down than anyone imagined. Rather than bashing out the wall to keep chasing it, Dylan called in reinforcements and Advanced came through with two more guys. They tried every trick and every tool to save that downstairs bathroom from becoming a mandatory re-tile job. Eventually they succeeded! They saved the day, saved the tile, and did it all with courtesy, friendliness, and a good-spirited teamwork attitude. Through no fault of their own, the scope of the problem and number of plumbers and time required ended up going well beyond the initial estimate, but the additional charge was exceptionally reasonable. I was expecting much worse. It was very clear they really wanted to get the job done well and with the least demolition possible. Wow. Alex from Advanced Plumbing truly came through in a clutch for me and my sad little toilet in an older San Francisco building. I have one of those tankless toilets that could barely flush a single piece of one-ply TP. I was on a tight timeline to get this fixed, and another plumber had already tried, failed, and charged me $900 dollars for the privilege. (Safe to say: do NOT call Magic Plumbing.) Alex came out the very next day, diagnosed the issue quickly, and explained that the toilet and the pipes leading into the wall all needed to be replaced. He handled everything professionally and knew exactly what to do to shut-off water pipes for our old building. A lot of plumbers do not know how to navigate that, and our building is ultra picky.. I had a toilet that filled too high with water and drained slowly. After trying a lot of diy, I called for help. Dylan, a very pleasant gentleman, arrived timely and simply used his plunger and presto! I had used the same type plunger at least 70 times over the day. Very expensive plunger lesson. I had been concerned due to the negative reviews. The personnel, Tim via phone scheduling, and Dylan, are very professional and personable. I didn't have any serious work done so I cannot comment on that. I would be more enthusiastic if they hadn't charged so much for a very quick easy job. I struggled deciding whether to write this update, and ultimately decided to do so because as a homeowner, I'd like to see honest reviews to help me when needed. I initially was very happy with the service. Brian (may he RIP) was a nice guy and fixed my shower mixer, installed a new showerhead, new kitchen faucet, and new garbage disposal. The caulking done in the bathroom was somewhat sloppy, but I overlooked that because I was happy about having a working shower. The kitchen is where the issues came up, 4 years later. First, the sink was leaking. When the new garbage disposal was installed, the "lip" or whatever it's called that's in the sink wasn't sealed correctly, so water was leaking through to the cabinet under the sink. Nick came by and took a look, and they fixed it without charge since they did the initial work, which I appreciated it. But then, the kitchen faucet became loose -- it wasn't tightened properly when it was installed and kept rocking back and forth. So I asked a family member who's a general contractor to come by and fix it. He fixed that, and then found that the garbage disposal was about to drop out completely because the screws had fallen out. Not only that, a puddle of water had collected at the base of the cabinet because water was once again leaking due to improper installation of the garbage disposal. This could've been REALLY bad for me in terms of $$$ if I hadn't asked my uncle to take a look at it. I had written a message to Advanced Plumbing to let them know about this; honestly, partly because I was thinking an apology and promise to do better in the future would've been good at this point. But heard nothing from them, and after debating for a while, I decided to write this update because while the guys are nice and respectful when they were here in person, I really question the quality of the work when it couldn't even hold up for 4 years of light use (I spent about a year away from home, so it's more like 3 years, really). read more

He had a great attitude and was truly trying to help me as much as he possibly could. He was able to clearly explain to me what he was doing and other issues my very old toilet had with it. After a failed DIY project failed, these guys were able to come next morning to fix leaking pipes that needed to be replaced with parts we weren't able to fix ourselves. The plumber was polite & straight forward as to what needed to be done, using the parts we already purchased. Stay Away from Advanced Plumbing - Unprofessional, Overpriced, and Exploitative My grandparents needed a simple gutter pipe replacement, and I called Advanced Plumbing to get a quote. Ron Kapah, the representative who came out, had the audacity to quote us at an outrageous $1,450. To add insult to injury, he tore the curtain of the window while inspecting the pipe and didn't even bother to apologize, hoping I wouldn't notice. As a materials engineer with plenty of experience in house repairs and plumbing, I knew that the quote was nothing short of highway robbery. Thankfully, I was able to prevent my grandfather from falling victim to their scam, but things took a turn for the worse. I decided to get more quotes and received two reasonable ones at $450 and $300. However, I ultimately chose to do the repair myself, and it only took me 2 hours to complete the job that Advanced Plumbing had the nerve to quote at $1,450! And if that wasn't enough, a month and a half later, they had the audacity to call me, claiming I was late on paying their invoice - for work they never performed! This is a clear-cut case of a company attempting to exploit elderly clients, charging them exorbitant prices, and trying to collect money for work that was never done. They started working pretty much right away. The job entailed replacing an old galvanized steel water intake pipe, which was leaking. They broke up a few squares of sidewalk, replaced the existing rusted pipe with approx. 45 ft. of one-inch copper pipe, drilled a hole in a short retaining wall (rather than go over it), arranged the city inspections, and laid down new concrete. Gabriel explained the work needed to fix the leak and answered all my questions. He and his crew arrived on time and kept the area clean. I had a project with Advanced plumbing and drain. I paid the full amount $15,000 last year May/June (change of gas pipe and two water heaters). Until today, we only have one heater connected which leaks now, and the other heater never connected. Gas pipe was not tested (at least with inspector) As soon as you paid the full amount, they will be busy with other jobs and you will not get attention. It's very hard to make them come to fix their problems. They tell you they are buried with work all the time! Most of time, they are late to the time they scheduled. During the project, they damaged the frame. We had to spend $400 to hire a framer to fix it. We have tenants coming next week and their water heater will be leaking, and it was not properly vented based on the inspector's inspection! Sooooo frustrating! read more

San Francisco has clay pipes in which roots get in and clogs it or at worst, dislodges the pipes so the sewer water backs up into the garage. After decades of grinding out the roots, it finally dislocated and I needed this fixed. APD came out, gave me an estimate. I also got a couple other estimates from other companies but they seemed the most professional at the best price. Fast forward, the job was completed quickly, the city inspections all passed including repairs to the sidewalk. I did this all remotely in another state.
