Last time I was in the area this bagel shop was just on the cusp of opening, but I missed it by a day or two. I was so excited to grab some carbs after a few hours in the thrift store next door. It is just the cutest thing inside! The worker was so sweet and patient as I asked questions. I was a bit overwhelmed, but in a good way - they had so many interesting flavors to choose from. Definitely not your average options, with choices ranging from coffee to matcha, rosemary to chocolate chip, jalapeno bacon to cinnamon. I was told all bagels are made fresh daily and they tasted that way, too. We kept them out on the counter for three or four days and they were still soft to the touch. Don't be like me though, I was told it is recommended to saran wrap and freeze, then defrost a bit and bake at 350 after brushing with a bit of water. I did not try this BUT sounds like it would freshen them right up like new. I love having a NY bagel shop near where I live. They have a LOT of bagel flavors and schmear; plus they make special limited flavors that match the season. The bagels are HUGE and chewy. I prefer them toasted but you can eat them right out of the store. I usually get the everything bagel, but I enjoy their matcha flavored bagel and the Asagio red pepper bagel. Baygulls also has baked goods like cinnamon rolls, cookies, and my FAVORITE: the cheese and guava pastelito. I took a bite once I got into my car, and the pastelito did not make it out of the parking lot. I highly recommend trying their baked goods! I've tried their LGABEACSPK and the smoked salmon bagel sandwich. They are generous with their schmear and make everything to order. I've always had a pleasant experience when going to Baygulls. I just finished my AWESOME Sesame Seed Bagel from Baygulls that was SUPER LOADED with Sesame Seeds EXACTLY AS I LOVE them. It was SO DELICIOUS that I felt compelled to leave a 5 Star Review for this WONDERFUL bagel shop immediately. The customer service is FABULOUS here. The young lady who took my 1/2 dozen bagel order was SO SWEET and ACCOMMODATING. You could tell she really cared to please a customer. When I told her I love my Sesame Bagels with a lot of seeds, she kindly said "I will go in the back and pick some loaded ones with lots of seeds for you" and SHE DID! This had been on my places to try. Hubs and I came in after church. Located in a shopping plaza so there is plenty of parking available. Upon walking in we were greeted and taken away by the wonderful smell. It was later in the day so the bagels I wanted to try were already out. I ordered a 6 pack: matcha (2), plain, cinnamon crunch and everything (2). I also got a tub of cream cheese. We headed home and I couldn't wait to try my bagel. Of course the matcha was MINE. they didn't slice the bagels which I thought was odd since I wasn't asked at the shop either. Ok, no big deal. I sliced my own and slathered it with cream cheese. The cream cheese is really creamy and more on the salty side. Which I wasn't expecting. The matcha bagel had that wonderful matcha flavor that I love but mixed with the cream cheese just didn't do it for me. Ended up mixing some apple butter on top of my cream cheese and it made it much better. The cinnamon bagel didn't have much cinnamon flavor to me. The Basics: Baygulls Bakery is a new bagel shop in the Town N Country area. We were thrilled to try this spot. It is clean inside and there are so many great flavors of bagels to choose from. There is limited seating inside with a small counter. We tried the Cheddar Everything Smoked Salmon bagel sandwich, the seasonal Pumpkin Spice Bagel, Red Pepper Asiago, Matcha Bagel, and the Egg Everything Bagel. We enjoyed the Red Pepper Asiago bagel, it is very flavorful but it is a spicy bagel so note that if you order! The Matcha bagel was also good and the right consistency. These were creative and different bagel flavors, which was nice. The Egg Everything bagel was also solid and the perfect consistency for a NY style bagel. The Cheddar Everything Smoked Salmon bagel sandwich was good, but it was not cut in half and had a ton of cream cheese on it which was extremely overpowering to the flavor of the bagel sandwich and made it extremely difficult to eat and enjoy. I would ask for much less cream cheese on this bagel sandwich next time. The consistency of the Pumpkin Spice bagel was totally different than the other bagels we tried and unfortunately we did not finish it. It was a very dense bagel and was not sweet at all, which was a bit surprising. I wished this was on par with the other bagels we tried. I would not order this bagel again. Overall, I hope Baygulls Bakery is successful in the area and we will return. The Pumpkin Spice bagel was disappointing, but everything else was good!! read more

We had the best experience with this small business! I found them with a simple google search. The owner was great to work with the weeks leading up to my daughter's wedding. We featured Baygulls Bakery bagels and schmears on our wedding weekend grazing table, and they were an absolute hit! This is located in a strip mall so there is ample parking. Walked in and as not greeted. I waited patiently while she helped customer in front of me. When she was finished she finally acknowledged me. I felt like I was interrupting or putting her out. She was not friendly. I ordered the sausage egg cheese on a plain along with a multi chip cookie. The cookie would have been great if they didn't add large flecks of salt on the top. I understand they want to cut the sweetness but too much salt. The bagel was cut in 1/2, wrapped in paper then in foil. I loved that! It kept it warm and still yummy. It was crunchy on the outside but the inside wasn't soft. It was pretty firm. I'm not a bagel connoisseur so maybe that's the way they are supposed to be. The store is pretty cute with out a lot of seating. read more

Great new (and much needed!) bagel spot on Hillsborough Avenue. Excellent, easy to find location with plenty of parking and plenty of room inside to accommodate lines! Love the layout inside, you get a clear view of not only the menu items, but also of the team putting together orders, pouring coffee and making bagels. Watched the engaged and friendly owner out front training an employee personally, very impressive. The menu is extensive but simple to absorb, lot of excellent bagel options along a variety of cream cheese flavors and espresso / coffee. Clean, friendly and fast - just the way you want a bagel shop to be. We tried a variety of bagels, excellent flavor and perfectly done; and honestly it was literally too big for me to finish! The place is very cute but I don't know if their bagels are any good. I can tell you they made a mistake with our order they're very happy to apologize for it but won't correct the problem. We made an order for a dozen bagels they omitted 1/2 the order. I realized it as I got to my car. My fiancé went back in. They said that they only charged for a 1/2 dozen (read that this way - more expensive than any bagel shop I've ever been to) so my fiancé said fine I'll pay for another 1/2 dozen but in the 3 minutes that took they only had 3 of the flavor we wanted so he said fine we'll take those for which he wanted $9.75. So his admitted mistake would cost us even more since there is a small price break when you buy 1/2 or whole dozen. We won't be going back. The owners response is inaccurate. He called the customer who first called him an asshole; an asshole. Most of my reviews have been quite positive and numerous. As a Yelp Elite I feel a responsibility to be accurate and measured. We all have possible improvements to make. Look me up you will see that. In this case even the owners immediate response shows his attitude. I was really excited to try this place but unfortunately it was a miss for me. Still giving 2 stars because the employees were so kind and helpful. And I also loved how many different and unique bagels they offer! I ordered a bacon egg and cheese on an egg bagel sandwich. I specified asked for a medium over egg, so that when I bite into it, the yolk would be runny (which I have had in the past at other bagel shops). However when I went to eat the bagel, all I saw was egg whites, and I was like wait where's the yolk? Then I realized that the yolk had already exploded and was soaking the bottom of the parchment paper, which made the bagel soggy/wet and very difficult to eat. I ended up just giving up and not finishing it, I also didn't like that the yellow cheese wasn't even soft/melted at all. I think I would've had a better experience just getting one of the unique flavored bagel with cream cheese. I'm open to giving this place a second chance but unfortunately it didn't meet my bagel sandwich expectations. read more

The bagels themselves are good! The business is not. Salt bagels are my favorite food. I would buy a dozen salt bagels every week if I could. Unfortunately, they only make 6 of them at a time. So, if you want something specific, odds are they're out. If you want a dozen of something, you're SOL. "Well, why don't you call ahead?" They don't have a phone... they want you to order exclusively on their website. The only problem there is that the website sucks and limits you to ordering only plain or everything bagels by the dozen. Technically you can order a dozen of any bagel but it's $51.60 because you have to order 12 individual bagels. It doesn't matter how good the product is if you they don't have it and you can't order it. read more

We were thrilled to see a new bagel shop open up only 7 miles from our house. For years, we have been driving to Clearwater Bagels, 16 miles away. Unfortunately, Baygulls' bagels are very good, but we did not like them quite as much as Clearwater's. They are wonderfully crispy on the outside, as they should be. This only comes from bagels that are boiled before they are baked, a rare treat. But somehow they are a bit doughy on the inside, not sure why. The schmears and butter spreads are very generous. The prices are higher than Clearwater (a dozen bagels to go is $30, whereas at Clearwater Bagels, a dozen to go is $15. But there is all that gas and time to get there!) We may be back, just for the convenience, but not for regular stocking up bagel runs. read more

I've waited a couple months to make a decision on how I feel about this place and after my experience today I feel that I am ready to share my thoughts. I am from up north and was a bagel a day person so I was excited for this place to open. Overall the bagels are mid and overpriced for what you get...not worth the drive and price. When you ask for the bagel toasted, its barely toasted and even tastes a little off or hard. The chocolate chip bagel was not good toasted. The brown sugar cinnamon schmear flavor is super light, barely tastes like the flavors. I have had the BECSPK and also tried sausage, all times it was just ok. Coupled with the issues below I unfortunately do not think I will continue to be a patron. - Twice I have ordered sweet bagels with the cinnamon sugar schmear and have gotten home to a bagel tasting like an everything bagel. I started observing the station area where they put on the cream cheese and noticed that there were so many seeds and it did not seem that they wipe the area down regularly between bagels. If I order a cinnamon sugar bagel, I do not want it to taste like an everything or onion flavor. - Today I watched the girl who runs the register ring out two customers and without washing her hands turn around and help roll bagels. She handles the credit card machine that customers handle and then to touch the dough without washing just rubbed me the wrong way. - I ordered an extra bagel one time for the next day, properly stored it, and when I woke up it was rock hard. Had to throw it out. There are a handful of options for cheaper, better tasting breakfast sandwiches with fresh bread in that area. It may not be a bagel, but at least you won't be disappointed in how much you paid for what you get. read more

I've been going to Baygulls since they opened and absolutely love their bagels. There are many flavors of bagels and schmears to choose from, including limited-time seasonal themed bagels and schmears. Some bagel flavors sell out, so I recommend getting there earlier in the day to get the best selection of flavors. Their bakery items (cinnamon rolls, cookies, etc.) are also amazing. The owner and employees are all very nice. If they're busy and/or waiting on another customer, I may not get a "welcome in" greeting when I walk in the door. Not an issue at all, as when they get to me, the employees are always friendly and helpful. You get a frequent shopper card (my term, not theirs) and when it's full, you get a free bagel. I've turned in 3 cards. If you love fresh, tasty bagels and schmears, Baygulls is your place. read more

This place is the worst. They will charge you full price for a sandwich you didn't even order. The service is terrible. They don't scoop out bagels. LIKE WHAT. And they charge you for ketchup. KETCHUP. And their punch cards are a joke, you don't get any bagel. There are limitations to it. The workers are rude. The salon bagel is gross and fishy. The bagel flavors sound appealing but really have no taste. Overall, it's all overpriced and this place leaves a terrible taste in my mouth. Coming from a true New Yorker. Disappointing. Would give 0/10 stars if I could. Disgusting. Go to einstein bagels or literally anywhere else. Anywhere is better than here. A crime basically. Absolute garbage. read more

We loved our bagels from Baygulls Bakery! I am originally from NY and I got the LGBECSPK and WOW! The flavors were spot on which is usually not the case when places claim to have NY style bagels. I also appreciated that the entire sandwich was wrapped in parchment paper then cut in half, then aluminum so that it was served hot, and wrapped in a way that contained the sandwich making it easier and less messy to eat. My husband got the cheddar jalapeño bagel toasted with plain cream cheese and could not stop talking about how good it was- flavor, temperature, cream cheese flavor and ratio. Everything was delicious! We love the vibe and the quirkiness of the seagulls. Such a cool concept and great addition to our community. We will be back to try all the combinations! Let me start by saying I'm from NJ, worked in NY for years, and I know what a real New York bagel is. This place is absolutely not it and it's honestly disgraceful that they even market themselves that way. From the moment we walked in, the experience was off. No greeting, no welcome, nothing. I ordered an everything bagel with cream cheese and tomato, salt and pepper, they said no tomatoes,Fine. Then I asked for a pork roll, egg, and cheese and they didn't even know what pork roll was (how are you marketing you're from up north and do not know what a pork roll is or have it.) and started telling us about a bagel hotdog which was comical thinking it compared in anyway. That was some of the first red flags.I ordered two bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches with salt, pepper, ketchup, and mentioned we had a coupon. The cashier cut me off with an attitude and said, "Well I already rang you up so... you can use it next time." Strange, but I let it go still trying to have hope in these bagels. We waited 10 minutes and got our order missing salt, pepper, and ketchup and the bagels weren't even cut in half. We asked them to fix it, waited another 5 minutes, and when we finally got home we discovered they had sliced the bagels without removing the foil, leaving shards of tin foil inside. At that point, it became unacceptable. I had to drive all the way back because I refuse to pay $20 for two sandwiches with barely-cooked bacon and literal foil pieces in them. When we went back, the owner did apologize and remake the order with a refund but by then the damage was done. It shouldn't have happened in the first place, and it was one mistake and inconvenience after another. Even after the remake, the bagels were bland, the bacon chewy with no flavor not two mention how little amount of bacon there was for this $9 bagel, and the only thing that added taste was the ketchup. For the outrageous prices they charge, the quality was nowhere near what's advertised. Bottom line: Don't call yourself a New York bagel shop if you're not from there and can't live up to that standard. This was extremely underwhelming, both the food and the entire experience.
