I've been to Bourbon Street in New Orleans many times. So when I see a restaurant called Bourbon Street it conjures up some wonderful memories. unfortunately the name is the only thing the two Bourbon Streets have in common. There's just not a lot here that reminds me of the Crescent City. The food is okay, I had the fried shrimp. It wasn't bad but it wasn't really memorable either. My oldest daughter had the fried catfish. She gave me some to try but I didn't care for it. The meat was mushy, not flaky. My youngest daughter had the Diablo Pasta which I think she enjoyed. My son in law had the redfish and I think he enjoyed that also. I will tell you the portions they serve are huge and easily shared. Our server was very attentive and polite. As far as ambiance, I was really surprised they didn't lean more into the New Orleans theme after all, it's in the name. read more

Gave this spot a try on the weekend around 2 pm. There was only one other table in the whole restaurant. Because it was very dead there was only one server in the whole restaurant. He was attentive but very minimal. I got the oysters david for my appetizer, which was very mid. Basically, oysters and cheese baked with no extra flavor. For entree, I ordered the surf and turf because I needed some red meat. Meat came out very rare when I asked for medium rare. The tart lemon wine cream sauce was okay, but not the best. The mashed potatoes, however, was the best out of the meal. Warning about this restaurant: they charge you an additional 8% food tax on top of regular taxes. This is a huge red flag! read more

Met relatives at Bourbon Street Seafood Kitchen on the outskirts of San Antonio. One of three locations, the decor is a wide open space with a non-discrip theme. It reminded me of a previous space that now houses a restaurant. It was fairly busy on a Thursday night, reservations were suggested. Our service started with the grilled oysters, spinach, bacon, cheese and seasoning. They were good but not great. The blackened grilled trout with dirty rice was one of the entrees. It was flavorful and a very good dish. The grilled red fish with crab meat, grilled shrimp, tomato, garlic, serrano peppers, and creamy buttery sauce over dirty rice was our other entree. It was tasty, not over-salty, and quite tender. The dirty rice was good but not great. The food at Bourbon Street Seafood Kitchen was good but not memorable. I was not sorry we tried them but also don't feel drawn to return. The decor and setup of the restaurant felt like a temporary pop up with no individuality as to who they are. This is always a go to place for my husband and I that is only a couple of miles from our neighborhood and it always offers good food. The Mississippi catfish is simply delicious as is the bread and pesto oil appetizer that's brought out to each table. My husband had the jambalaya, as he usually does, and was very satisfied with it. The service was great. Our waitress was friendly and outgoing and the ambiance was spot on, too. We ordered ice tea and it was pretty good with prompt refills as needed. We had our three kids (7 yo boy, 4 yo girl, and almost 2 yo girl). Arriving early we decided to take advantage of their happy hour. We ordered 5 drinks and 3 happy hour appetizers (NOTE: you must purchase 1 alcoholic beverage for each happy hour appetizer). We ordered 1 calamari and 1 catfish nuggets in our first round and a second calamari later on. NOTE: The calamari was good, the catfish was only okay. The bartender (her name is Crystal) was unwelcoming from the moment we walked in. She gave my father-in-law a hard time for trying to clarify what the happy hour "well drink" was and was generally unfriendly. My kids were reasonably behaved, but excited to be around their grandparents and at a restaurant. They were not being disrespectful or disruptive. There were two other couples in the bar area and one other single patron. When our second order of calamari arrived, the bartender (Crystal) brought it to a small table that my father-in-law and I were chatting at. Before she sat it down we asked that she deliver it to the next table over for the kids. She responded to us with "You need to be more specific next time" which caught me by surprise. At this point, we were getting hungry for our dinner meals. My wife asked if we could move our party into the main dining area (as we had discussed with front of house when we entered). NOTE: There was literally one single party seated in the restaurant outside of the bar at about 6PM. Our bartender (Crystal) informed us that we were not allowed to take the happy hour appetizer out of the bar area. OK. FINE. I asked the family to come back to the bar area to eat the calamari before we got seated for the main meal. My father in law asked the bartender (Crystal) to speak to the manager. He has some trouble hearing and was attempting to communicate and the bartender (Crystal) raised her voice and said "Get out of my face" which surprised us all. A bit of commotion ensued as a result of this outburst. At this point we made the decision to leave. The manager (unfortunately, I did not get his name) did come to speak to us and he indicated that the policy of their restaurant was to allow happy hour DRINKS to leave the bar area, but not happy hour FOOD. A restaurant has the right to establish and enforce any policy they would like (regardless of how asinine it may be). He identified that he had apologized to my father-in-law and that we could take the calamari to our table if we wished to do so; however, this silly policy was no longer the issue. We began gathering our things as my father-in-law closed out our tab. I have no idea what prompted it, but while we were preparing to leave, the bartender (Crystal) said loudly "This is a bar, don't bring your kids here" (which, if you have ever been to this location, the "bar" is not even separated from the main dining area by a wall...it's just the front part of the restaurant). Upon walking out the door, I heard the bartender (Crystal) say "...leave and never come back" (I did not hear the first part of the sentence) Again, there are a ton of great (and less expensive) restaurants in San Antonio. Let's start with the positives, the food was good I had the shrimp and lump. It was good food but for the price I would have rather gone to New Orleans. The bread was horrible it tasted like cheap knockoff bread trying to pass as fancy. The waiter was straight up weird like no emotions and very monotone. He made me feel like I was disrupting his day. Location: The restaurant is located off the 1604 in a small shopping center. Service: The service is amazing! The staff are very friendly, attentive and refill waters often. Food: They have an amazing seafood selection from fried, blackened, grilled, fish stuffed with crab, pastas, etc. We had an appetizer with crabmeat and cheese on top of the oyster. It was delicious! My husband and I agreed that we want to try a new seafood dish every Friday during lent. Cost: It is pricey! Expect to pay around $15 for an appetizer and $21-28 for your main entree. Dad had Lemonade. Since Dad likes clam chowder, I thought to have him try the Louisiana version, and he liked it. I had a few bites, and it was smoky with bacon. I had a side salad with Ranch. I ordered the salmon on a cedar plank with mashed potatoes instead of dirty rice because the dirty rice has chicken intestines and pork in it (according to the waiter) - a turn off for me personally. The mashed potatoes were pretty good however the salmon was very unseasoned, even after putting pepper on it myself, I still had to ask for sauce and the sauces they gave me were the lemon butter and orange looking sauce were very underwhelming. For desert we finished off with a Creme Brulé each topped with whipped cream and sliced strawberries. We always get a great meal here. This night our party of six started with the alligator and calamari which were as good as expected. Review is for the North Stone Oak location. Came here with a party of 3 for a business lunch on a Thursday at noon-thirty. It was pretty quiet, maybe 15 tables seated. There's a sign near the door/bathrooms that the dress code is enforced and we were scratching our heads on that one - what IS the dress code? Have on a shirt and shoes? We were seated immediately, drinks were on the table by the time I got back from the bathroom, and orders were up within 10 minutes. We were in and out within 45 minutes. Great job with lunch service. We ordered off the lunch menu - one person had salmon and two of us had the cajun combo (blackened catfish with shrimp étouffée). Very reasonable prices. The cajun combo was a weird plate - two proteins with two different rices (dirty with the catfish, white with the étouffée) and no vegetables. I would have liked a better balanced option. Catfish looked ate a lot more like a tilapia filet than a catfish filet; none of that muddy flavor and toothy texture I look for in catfish. The whole plate had about 2 grams of salt. I ate the protein and left most of the rice on the plate because it was so salty and there was so much of it. There were probably close to 2,000 calories on the plate, mostly in rice. The salmon dish my colleague ate did not come with rice, it was served over some julienned squash and looked a lot better balanced. If I come here again I will not order something with rice, I'll make sure it's a protein/vegetable plate and ask for no added salt. Then as he was taking food orders I was indecisive about what I wanted and he made a rude comment that I could never be pleased. He definitely didn't try to recommend one plate over the other. Then he criticized me for looking at the lunch menu by accident when I was looking for the fried seafood. Food quality was sub par. Boudin was tasteless and falling apart, the chicken picatta had very little flavor, ponchatrain was ok but the sauce was bland, Overall the food was not worth the price at all. The ambiance was nice but I should have known it was going to be just ok when the place was empty at 7pm. After the meal was over, I handed him my plate and he complained that I 'slimed' him. I guess he might have gotten some sauce on his finger or hand but nothing noticeable; he continued to bring it up by asking others not to slime him as I had, not even cracking a smile or a chuckle. Just negative energy. Finally the check came and already included a 20% gratuity of 58 dollars and he rudely said, "you don't have to put anything on the gratuity line ". My wife's fried shrimp looked good but again no flavor in the batter or the meat. The service was bad, our server didn't even want to speak much less answer questions. We visited this location on our 28 anniversary, it was so disappointing! When we arrived at the parking lot we thought for a moment that the location was closed, all windows were really dirty and the front entrance was full of dead leaves and dirt, but it was open, once inside there was a foul smell lingering, but we decided to stay anyway. Service was excellent, no complaints whatsoever, we ordered our food; Oyster trio, was good, Salmon Alexander; way over cooked so it was very dry and chewy, wife ordered shrimp bourbon street, shrimp were very good and tasty but sauce was curled up, both dishes came with "garlic mashed potatoes " really disgusting, super watery and bitter, it ruined the dishes! Men's restroom was filthy, the smell of urine was unbearable, and it was the smell that was lingering in the restaurant. We were regulars at the river walk location, food there was way better with bigger portions too, but seems that it is now closed for good so we thought this would be the same... There was no one at the hostess stand when we arrived, so we had to wait a few minutes before the manager showed up to seat us. We seriously thought about grabbing our own table for a couple of minutes because nobody acknowledged that we were standing there. The food: The jambalaya ($18.99) had PLENTY of chicken and sausage - the chicken was chicken breast and was very moist - not dried out, which is easy to do with chicken breast. However, the jambalaya demi-glaze sauce and rice, seriously was no better than one of those instant mixes out of a box or a bag like Zatarans, etc. the sausage tasted very similar to the local SA brand Kiolbassa. I just wasn't impressed with this dish, based on the $18.99 price tag it flaunted. Who charges $18.99 for jambalaya??? The Pontchartrain Redfish entree ($31.99) is pan seared, served with mushrooms, crab meat, and shrimp in a brown butter sauce, served with dirty rice on the side. Glasses of wine range from $8 to $15. Beer (Abita Amber) is $4.75 for a 12 oz bottle. Substitutions are frowned upon here. The redfish entree includes two shrimp, but we asked if we could substitute scallops for the shrimp. The cost was going to be an additional 4.99 for the first scallop, and 5.99 for each additional one after that - but we were assured they were large scallops. We took a hard pass on the substitution and ordered it with the default of two shrimp. This dish was better than the jambalaya entree. The fish was cooked perfectly - not too dry and a good flavor. Although the service was great, and the food wasn't too bad, it will be a while before I return. It's just too pricey for the quality and ambiance.
