The title of my review is "Restaurant Leftovers and Other Things Cooked and Served in Questionable Settings by Questionable People" The owner also owes a Russian restaurant next door, so when they bring one serving of stale kebab to the store's hot food section you've been warned. I am not sure why health inspectors have not already closed this dump. Service is extremely rude. Shelves are dirty. Food is handled by hands that also handle money. I cannot figure out where the line starts or ends. Tare is not deducted on all packaged items. Most packaged items are not dated. People do not wear hairnets. People who give 5 star reviews on yelp must be connected to the store in some ways. Go there if you feel nostalgic for Soviet Union service circa 80's and for poor hygenic practices. read more

This Russian market is literally right around the corner from me. It's basically a small corner market with a deli, produce section, a hot foods section, and some fresh baked breads. They carry a lot of the same stuff Persian markets have as well (FYI, Iran is a neighboring country of Russia's). It's always clean, always well stocked with fresh produce. Not a HUGE selection, however, what they have is fresh and cheap! They also have a really good selection of Russian candies and European chocolates. Parking has NEVER been a problem here. I only wish they had a liquor license so that they could carry vodka! read more

This is one of the absolutely worst markets I have ever been too. The place is tiny, very unorganized. The stuff works when they fill like it and has no consistency in following the rules they have established to move the line and help customers faster. Also, if you go to this place you must check every box of raspberries and cherries, because there is huge chance that if you don't, the product is rotten. What in the hell did I walk into?? Place needs to be re-named "bizarre" ! RUDE employees who do not appreciate your business. NO LINE SYSTEM at the Deli. After two people (who spoke the same language as the woman behind the hot food section cut me ***at her gesture) the employee walked away eating something . As loud as I could, I asked her if she could help me and she yelled back to "give her a minute". She then waddled off to the fish section and started up a chat with another employee. I pass this market everyday when I am walking to and from the Orange Line stop. I finally decided to stop in a couple of weeks ago and I am so glad that I did. Fresh produce and ridiculously reasonable prices. They have lavash bread that is authentic and not some annoying grocery store version of it that's super expensive and gross. They have lots of teas that I will be buying once I'm in the market for it and some Russian candies that I haven't had in years. I am always the only non-Russian person in the store, but I haven't been made to feel uncomfortable. The staff is not friendly, but they definitely aren't rude. They have some prepared foods that I would be interested in trying. I just need to bring my boyfriend's mother (who is Ukranian) to help me decipher some things, haha. If you're in the Tarzana area, I definitely recommend for fruits, veggies, and European staples. read more

Back to USSR! Russian style trade,atmosphere and products. If you come from any part of those times or in general European, this is a good place to get what your taste buds are lacking in USA stores. On the other hand, its fun place for others to explore so mixed up nationalities(foods) that have been under USSR flag. Its pricey when it gets together (Have never walked out without leaving at least 90$) FOR those WHO aren`t related to anything Slavic or USSR style culture, don`t get butt hurt or overreact of the way people are there. I bought products for the house. Staff very nice, but I asked if salmon fish is fresh , they told me that yes. The woman wrapped him in a bag. At home, when I wanted to eat a meal, I opened the bag and there was a terrible smell, and all the salmon fell apart in my hands, not fresh, I was disappointed.!! read more

I came to buy a phone card "Lubimaya" and she said that rhey don't have it so I asked them what other calling cards they have and her reply was "we never had any and never will". Horrible, came in a very good mood, left in not so good. Ok, so from the very beginning. Saturday morning, me in a very good mood, done with my things and wanted "Adjapsandal salad" from bazaar market (eggplants, bell peppers, tomatoes, carrots, onion). Came, really needed to use restroom, asked, the woman show it to me (not for the customers but my toe is broken, could not walk more, but ok). It was locked. She said if it's locked means someone is inside. Ok waiting for about 10 min, knocking, no answer. People who working here passing me, see I am knocking and it's silence and do nothing to help. Then I asked a lady if she knows the code. The lady said in Russian with attitude "This is a really stupid question, of course I know the code, I work here. Very stupid question!" after that all I wanted just leave But Ok, coming to the deli. Three woman standing there, chatting and doing nothing, but showing no desire to help me. No "hi, how are you? How Can I help you?" I had to ask myself "what vegetable dishes do you have?" and immediately see the judgment and the attitude in the tone. Well it was time of lent Fasting in Russian Orthodox Church, and even if I am vegan, I don't have to explain that but see they are looking with judgement. Then asking about other items. She answered you take it yourself. Was it really so hard for her to walk 2 steps and give it to me. Ok, I took it myself. Then asking for another item, with Just saying, oh, I had it last time and it was so tasty! No expression on her face, she gave it to me with stone face. Then asking about bread, had to ask to give me plastic bag for bread, she is doing it with face expression as she is doing me such a favor. Urhhh....Welcome to USSR! The attitude, no politeness, the tone. Then an older big Russian lady and a man came and they all nice with her. So they were not nice with just with me? Why? Because I wear sport cloth (on Saturday morning) and no makeup and skinny and look younger. Or why? Then at the cashier, another customer standing so close to me in line! I already hinted him in the form of joke that I can feel his breath on my neck. He answer that's it's good for me that I feel it, and be better if I don't. And still didn't move even after I directly told him that there is a private space for everyone. So Bazaar never ever ever ever again! This is a delightful little Russian market. The owners are golden people. It's a gem hidden away in the valley. I love that they stock fresh Kvass. They offer pickled fish, specialities meats, and the always popular sturgeon. The woman at the counter is a gem. Thanks for the chump. If you want to have bad customer service starting with the owner, come to Bazaar. Cashiers will show you an attitude, being rude, not helpful. Fruits are not always fresh particular in the boxes. It remind Russia in 1990th, when you feel poor customer service, people do not appreciate customers and do not like when you buy anything from them. do not expect American style service, this place is an example of old Soviet era market. dont be turned off by nmild rudeness of the staff. food and produces makes up for that ten fold. Russian delicacies and prepped food are excellent. try chopped mushroom salad, baby octopus, beat salad and all of the cooked meats and sides. A++ read more

Good place for Russian food:) I'm going there this morning as I want tasty golubtsi. If you don't know what that is, try them. When I get there I will bump and push past people and others will crowd me as I'm shopping. The staff may stare at me without expression. For now you are transported in a little market kiosk that could be anywhere in Mixoscow or Leningrad. Americans who haven't traveled there, relax, that's how it is, learn and enjoy it, that's key. Remember this: they're not being rude, even it it feels like that way to you. Appreciate it as training for future travel plans and try the pelmeni as well. I stop by this store every other month for my Russian food supplies. Tried several other Russian stores in LA area and this one is slightly better on customer service. Although, I don't expect much and know first hand about Russian 'service' but at least they don't mind unloading my shopping basket at the cashiers desk, mostly friendly, and often give a complimentary candy /treat to my daughter when she's with me. read more
