Honestly a very solid kbbq spot! The inside looks clean, and new. Service was very good. The staff were attentive and came around regularly to check on us and did grill changes regularly. The types of meat they include are pretty standard. The quality of the meat was good! Everything tasted fresh and clean. I also liked that they have a self serve bar where you can get the usual ban chan side dishes for yourself. I did enjoy that they include tempura squash, which is pretty unique for me, as I've never seen an item like that at other kbbq places. Overall, food was great and I'd come back. This is a good place to get kbbq without breaking the bank. Finding a good Korean bbq in the Garden Grove area is like a needle in a haystack because there is an abundance of KBBQ restaurants in the area. Doing the appropriate Yelp research can sometimes land you a diamond in the rough find. Since I knew we would be in this area, Chung Dam looked interesting because they have a happy hour special which at first I was not clear how it worked, but when we arrived, the one woman team explained how it worked, and we right away selected our meats and off on our own to the well stocked and great variety self served Ban Chan buffet. Honestly, just that alone, you can get full and be satisfied with it, but you go to a KBBQ for the meats. With the HH menu, there's a limited selection of meats, but our go to are Brisket, beef belly and pork belly. As I mentioned the one woman team for the front of house staff, service was excellent. She single handedly took care of all tables bringing out meat orders, clearing tables and cashing people out, she honestly did better than some other restaurants we've been too with more staff. This is one of my go-to KBBQ places! I always get the gold menu because I feel like it's the most bang for your buck, but there's three tiers and a happy hour menu to choose from. All of the workers are welcoming and very attentive. I like how there are all the sides in the middle for us to grab ourselves. The only complaint I have about the interior is that circulation isn't that great, especially on a hot day. I don't know if they even have AC because the last time I went there, it was so hot that my whole family was sweating and they had a bunch of fans that seemed to be the only things keeping the temperature slightly down. For food, all the meats are delicious and high quality! My personal favorites are the beef belly, beef tongue, pork jowl, raw king ribs, and rib finger. There's a huge variety of sides, but minor complaint is that they charge extra for certain sides such as steamed egg. Other than that, all the hot sides are great, I love their cheese corn, and I also think the veggies are really fresh! This was our first time here bringing some of our friends from NorCal! I was actually trying to go to thirsty cow but the weight was one hour long and here was only five minutes for a Saturday night at 7 PM. Parking is great around the area since most of the other stores are closed. Service was fantastic as everyone was super attentive. I love that you're able to grab your own Banchan and other snacks so it saves the servers time. I'm all about efficiency. Everyone made you feel like home and it was a comfortable, relaxed, environment. We ended up at BBQ Chung Dam because our usual spot was packed. The good: no wait time, self serve bar with lots of options both hot and cold, service was quick, price was fair (happy hour 21.99) restaurant felt clean and spacious. The bad: some of the meat was a little dry and tough such as the brisket and some parts of the bulgogi, they didn't offer rice paper which is my favorite, they don't allow people to eat by themselves and we watched someone get turned away because of it which was a little awkward. Also be warned that if you have lots of leftovers the charge you full price for it so make sure to only order what you would eat. Overall if you're doing happy hour i say it's worth it but i wouldn't pay for their regular or premium menu because i think there's other spots around the area that are better. read more

Meats are ordered through the server, while side dishes are self-serve in the lobby area (self bar) . The layout is simple, table spacing is comfortable, and getting sides is very straightforward. Since this is the original location, I naturally came in with slightly higher expectations - partly because of the YouTube recommendation and also from friends who had positive experiences in the past. For us, the meat quality was decent and the selection felt a bit limited, but everything was prepared well and enjoyable. Service was a highlight. The silver tier had the meats that we were interested in having so we chose that option. The staff was very intentive and stayed on top of replacing our grill as we cook. My sister and I like to come here when we crave kbbq. It's not close or too far from home so we think it's worth the drive because kbbq in Irvine is mediocre. The servers are always friendly and welcoming. There hasn't really been a wait during the times we've been here but the inside is big and packed. We usually get the gold tier which has plenty of good meats and the diamond tier when we feel like splurging. Their salad and banchan are all really good. I like that it's in a salad bar so we can grab what we like and there's no waste. I would just be careful when walking inside because the floor is really slippery from all the grease. read more

Happy hour lunch was $19.99 per person (it's only on Mon-Fri between 11:30am-3pm). Main meats from the kitchen are brisket, beef belly, and pork belly, and they were all good. My favorite of the three was the beef belly, especially since they were fatty and very thinly sliced. I tried honeycombed sliced pork and marinated abomasum from the self-serve bar, too. Sliced pork was tasty, especially dabbed with some salt. Abomasum was a tough chunk of organ meat that was interesting to try, but I wasn't a fan of the sweet, bulgogi-like marinade. Buffet bar had a variety of foods, like potstickers and fried rice. I sampled a braised rib, a sesame ball, and an onion ring to cleanse my palate from all the beef belly I was downing, and they were ok. Nothing made me want to to back for seconds, though. Standard banchan minus the radish paper, but I didn't ask if they had it. Sauces and condiments were provided at our table; it's nice to know that we could top ourselves off whenever. Interior was bright and clean, and thankfully not stuffy or sticky. Waitress was straightforward and helped us get right down to business for meat orders. She was also very attentive about grill changes and clearing away empty plates. We also got individually packaged vanilla ice cream cups after our meal, so that was much appreciated. The only thing she forgot was our ordered steam egg the entire time but we filled ourselves on meat so can't complain. The salad/sides bar was self service so didn't need to wait for anyone. The meats are fresh and tender when cooked properly. Grill changes were often and consistent. Only complaint would be the bit of airflow lacking cause we couldn't tell if our vent was on since there was smoke rising but couldn't really hear the suction. This is the worst Korean BBQ I've ever been to. I regularly try Korean BBQ spots around Orange County, especially in Garden Grove and Westminster, and this one was by far the most disappointing experience. We arrived at 9:30 PM, knowing they close at 11:00 PM. We were told their last call is at 10:30 PM. Since we usually eat quickly and don't take more than an hour, we thought that would be fine. However, about 30-40 minutes in, they brought us the check and took away our water, even though we were still waiting on two items we had ordered right before last call. When we reviewed the receipt, we also noticed an automatic 20% service charge that was never mentioned to us beforehand. The service fee itself wouldn't have been an issue if the service matched it, but the overall experience was frustrating. We had to repeatedly remind them about the missing items, and at that point we were already eating without water. Despite trying to get their attention, staff would avoid eye contact and walk past our table. There were about five other tables dining, so it was unclear why there was such a rush for us to finish and leave. If a restaurant is going to begin pushing customers out that early due to closing procedures, it would make more sense to adjust the last seating time instead of accepting guests at 9:30 PM. read more

We've been coming to Chung dam quite often since they've opened for their happy hour. It used to be $20, but was recently raised to $22. We loved the old pricing but for the quality and offerings $22 is more than fair compared to other KBBQ spots. Our friend was arriving late, but they had no issue seating us and getting us started. The staff are always very attentive and kind, which can be hard to come by even at nicer more expensive AYCE KBBQ restaurants. She was always quick to check on us, get us new meat, or change our grill. The meat quality is surprisingly high quality and consistent, and they are always slicing it fresh. We also like how their banchan and hot food buffet is so easily accessible. The one thing I will say is that I've found some of their buffet offerings to be slightly old sometimes, perhaps not replaced as often as would be ideal, but it's never enough of an issue to ruin our meal. There are plenty of offerings that are fresh and enjoyable, which alongside the quality meat for the price makes for basically unbeatable value. Special shoutout to Jennifer and Julia for our nights! They were phenomenal the entire night. I came here with my group of coworkers for our holiday dinner. Both of them were very attentive whenever they interacted with us. We rarely had to ask for anything because they would beat us to it. Need a grill change? They got us. Oh did want another bottle of soju? They got too! More water? Already on the table before we realized it needed refilling. They are truly the mvp of the night! As I mention before, this place is buffer style with a variety to choose from. Every time I do come, I notice improvements in the option! For example, they actually make the pork belly thicker (reference to my last review). And now they offer pork jowls and pig skin too! I don't know many places that offer that WITH the basic menu. Most of the time you have to tier up, but nope not here! While most of the options you can self serve, there are specific cuts and meats you would have to order from the kitchen.
