Good local bbq establishment in Kent. Had the 3 meat plate and brisket dip. The meat plate incl smoked chicken which was the best of the 3, ribs and pulled pork. The ribs were good other than being a little cold in the middle, the pulled pork was just ok, and the smoked chicken was perfectly smoked &juicy. The brisket dip was so good with what tasted like housemade horseradish. There were also several different kinds of BBQ sauce on the condiment counter. The coleslaw went well our bbq meal. Wish the loaded potatoe salad was as good as it looked, unfortunately it was bland. Don't forget to have their complimentary soft serve ice cream when you leave. read more

I'm not normally a fan of bbq- I don't like meat on the bone except for steak. However, I really love their pulled pork sandwiches. They make their own sauces in house, and have won tons awards for their unique recipes. Me and my husband was venturing for new restaurant to try around our apartment. We stumbled upon this place on yelp being most rated place for BBQ around this area. Upon arriving you can smell the BBQ when entering the plaza. You can either walk in or they have a little drive thru if you're planning to stay in your car. We ordered enough to feed 2 people for lunch and dinner (lol). While waiting they serve complimentary soft serve ice cream, great for little ones! I am a fan of the brisket and the BBQ pork. The hot links were great, but the chicken was a bit dry. I recommend trying all the award winning sauces they are all great just the matter of your preferences! BBQ Pete's has always been a tasty crave spot. They are taking extreme measures for everyone's safety during this pandemic. A drive thru has even been placed. You can still order inside, call in the order, or even try the drive thru. With the drive thru, there's someone who physically takes your order, handles the money transactions, and after everything is good, they'll ask you to park in one of the spots in front of the restaurant. A few moments later, an individual will bring out your food in a paper bag. The most recent trip I made, I came inside to order. I normally cannot get the complimentary ice cream since I can't drive with multiple cones in hand. When offered, the gentleman at the counter said they have them packaged in little containers that are frozen. It truly made my day. Customer service is still very excellent. Staff is helpful, knowledgeable, and very friendly. Their sides are still amazing. I'm a lifetime fan of their cornbread and loaded potato salad. Their fry sauce is savory with a little smoky taste. Had the BBQ Three meat dinner w/ beans and cornbread muffin. The Ribs were the star of the show. It was a soft, flavorful, and well seasoned meat that falls off the bone with each bite. The pulled pork and chicken was juicy and surprisingly not dry. The beans, which are hearty and tasty, has smoked brisket and pork burnt ends mixed in making the taste even better. The cornbread muffin comes with that maple syrup tasting butter. You can't go wrong with all three meats. The dinner is enough to feed two people or one hungry meat lover. I also had the "The Sandwich with no Name". The bun itself is so soft and fresh. The sliced brisket is soft and goes really well with the Pete's classic sauce. I really recommend getting Pete classic sauce as it is NOT your ordinary BBQ sauce since it is not tangy, but sweet. I can see why the sauce won an award in 2016. Back to the sandwich, the best part of the sandwich are the crispy onions. It gives the sandwich a little crunchy texture which I love. I was definitely satisfied with BBQ meals and the service was quick. I went to the Kent location around lunch time. During the pandemic, they have both a drive thru and walk in service with like maybe a one or two tables for eating in. As soon as you order at the counter, the food is quickly assembled for your order and is already for pick up. I can understand why this place would be packed before the pandemic. I ordered from Pete's tonight for delivery and everything was better than expected. I'll post a few pictures, but I didn't get great ones due to the packaging and I'm in a hotel. Ribs, chicken, cornbread and a side salad...oh and throw in a sausage link! Everything was very tasty, even down to the whipped honey butter for the cornbread muffin. The ribs were tender and the sauce that came with them was just the right tangy. The packaging was appropriate and they remembered to throw on some plastic utensils...that is always a big plus. You can't see from the picture, but the muffin was bigger than my fist and certainly the show stopper. Cornbread muffins with copious amounts of butter are good for you, right? $56 rack of Ribs (90% Bones) - A constructive Criticism of why I gave BBQ Pete's 1 STAR? Is it edible? Absolutely...but I feel like I do after loosing money at a casino...a stupid use of my money. With that said, I can't stand negative people who just seem to enjoy bringing others down, so at the end, I will give my thoughts on how I think they might be able to stay in business and see the year 2024. If I were to rate McDonald's, I would give it 5 STARS. Does that mean I ever eat McDonalds when I'm not on a road-trip...no. Do I prefer it over BBQ Pete's...no. So Why a 1 STAR vs 5 STAR?...expectation. McDonalds gives you what you expect, at an appropriate price. I cannot say the same for BBQ Pete's. I remember seeing the sign go up and I was excited for a good BBQ place after moving south from Seattle, missing R&L's (now closed - R&L's Home of Good Bar-B-Que - not seeing Ms. Davis anymore). I was one of the first customers at Pete's and it was disappointing. I assumed it was the process of opening a new palace and getting into a rhythm, so I went back a couple weeks later...same thing, but then the prices increased. Several months later I tried again...consistent in the wrong way. With the time between visits becoming greater, this 6th visit will probably be my last. I respect restaurateurs...especially given COVID (I did not look up if they received Covid money). Sure, I could just not go back, but this place could be really good. The restaurant is very nice and they follow what seems like the BBQ restaurant 101guide of hiring attractive young women who smile a lot. On top of that is the location in Lakewood is always spotless. The flavors of everything I have tried has been excellent (haven't tried the chicken or links but chicken is chicken and sausage has so much fat you can't F that up) Oh, and the sauces. For people who like the thicker sweeter style, as many do in the NW...10 out of 10. Unfortunately, there is a major issue. See my attached photo for a visual explanation. A - the two largest ribs of the full rack I ordered. look at the bottom one after I took a bite...90% bone. B - the middle two are just as bad C - If I ordered a rack of ribs, why are there two end pieces. The one on the right is standing up so you can see how thin and overcooked it was....tougher than beef jerky. This is a BBQ place and many people are BBQ snobs and have strong opinions....personally, I just cannot understand how they expect people to return after charging $56 for a rack of ribs that was 90% bone. Again, see my pictures. I want to see this place survive, but I think they are either clueless about the economics of Lakewood...how many people can pay $56 for a rack of ribs that I finished by myself and was still hungry due to the "1990's Kate Moss ribs". We live in different times...we want meat on our bones. In order to make a constructive recommendation, I looked at wholesale pork prices over the last 10yrs and besides a very short-term 30% increase during the start of the pandemic, which returned to pre-covid prices very soon, pork prices are very consistent. Depending on the exact cut, weight and style, we are talking about $1.20 - $1.80/lb (baby-backs are more but not sold here) which based on my rack of ribs equates to $3-4 total for the entire rack. So being charge $56....is crazy. I drive by Pete's almost every day and it never has anybody in the restaurant anymore...I assume most people have given up on this place due to out of control pricing....besides some last minute orders like I did this last time because I was lazy. With such a low cost of the ribs at the wholesale, the $42.29 + $4.23 tax + 20% tip on total $9.30 = $55.82. This is delusional. They need to increase volume and without going into pricing theory...just think if you got two racks for the same $56....that would only add maybe $4 to the food cost. My other thought is the sauces are very good. Personally, I think they have a stronger business if they just concentrated on selling their sauces and get out of the restaurant business if they have such internal expense issues they think charging $56 for a rack of ribs is a good long-term pricing strategy. read more

We got two BBQ rib dinner plates w/ fries, bbq beans, chipotle coleslaw and potato salad. I like how they have a variety of different sauces to use. I wish they had spicier sauces but I would say over they are mild. The bbq beans were my favorite side bc it had meat mixed in. Don't forget to get your free soft serve to end your meal with dessert! My boyfriend and I were craving some BBQ and randomly found this place. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich with fries and a corn bread muffin, and my boyfriend ordered two-bone ribs also with fries and a corn bread muffin. I like that they have different types of BBQ sauce accessible for anybody's use. I tried the original sauce and it was really good. The pickles tasted great as well. I absolutely loved the honey butter with the corn bread muffin. The bread wasn't too dry and the honey butter complimented it perfectly. My boyfriends ribs were so tender they almost fell off the bone. My mouth is almost watering as I write this review. They also have complimentary ice cream after your meals and a huge sink to wash your hands :) So why four stars? The customer service was no where near what the food is. It wasn't that they seemed rude, they just seemed very shy, bored and closed off. Not what someone wants when trying out a new restaurant. At one point I passed by what seemed to be manager, because he was interviewing someone in the corner at one point, and he didn't make eye contact with me at all. I would think as the manager you would be warm and friendly to your customers. I even contemplated giving this review three stars due to the service. We ordered a pound of ribs, a pound of hot links and a pound of beef brisket. We did a side of fries and added other sides from our own food. The three of us all agreed that it was very good BBQ. The brisket is sliced rather than shredded which is a change of texture from their shredded pork. Our son who loves hot, spicy foods found the links to be really hot. They are good but be warned that they pack a punch. The fries are a thick cut which I prefer over steak fries and nicely crisp. We got 3 or 4 sauces and enjoyed each of them. The walk up ordering was COVID compliant and service was spot on. Pete's will be our BBQ place from now on. Initially we were going to the Hawaiian place a few doors down, but the smell of BBQ and meat was just too tantalizing to ignore. We were so happy that we chose to eat at Petes!!!! Been forced to do the Covid delivery-takeout thing on my layovers. Being a BBQ freak, I'm getting the chance to try many places. I gave Pete's a shot. Fast prep; delivery; food was still warm when it got here. Price comparable. Most Importantly- They nailed the ribs. First thing I notice, they are smokier than others I've had. This place has Some of the best bbq that you can get at a brick and mortar store in the pacific nw! Their hours are generous (open 7 days a week, usually until 9pm) so whenever that craving for good bbq hits, i know i can come here and get my fix. I love their brisket and spicy chop sandwich. The ribs are really good, but on the pricey side so i usually just stick to a sandwich when i go. I am in love with their cornbread. So much so that Whenever i order a plate that comes with 2 sides, i get double cornbread. Although there's was a line of about 10 people before me during lunch hour, it only took a few minutes. And my order was ready in no more than 2 minutes. I was impressed the portion they give. Limited menu, but incredible. The salad is basically a token non meat option or lower calorie option... it's mostly iceberg lettuce so don't get your hopes up there and I wouldn't recommend taking a vegan or vegetarian there because they won't have a lot of options. That said I have taken Texans here and been highly amused at their confusion on how we have such a good BBQ joint. The brisket is my favorite and the fair sauce with baked beans being my favorite side. The potato salad is good though I prefer a simpler mustard potato salad, but it's solid. The fries are like big steak fries and I like them when they're hot but not once they get cold. Not what I am there for anyways. And the free ice cream is just like a nice touch. They also quickly pivoted to set up a "drive through" when Covid caused shut downs which was probably not far from their fairground beginnings.
