Not sure what Ganpi's problem is but this place did not warrant just 1 star. Customer service was ok. Very busy on Sunday, especially after church. We had the shrimp and crab omelette, french toast, garlic shrimp wrap and the ultimate. All the portions were decent size and tasted good. Everyone was full and satisfied. A staple for our office lunches on most Fridays. Food is always good and service is pretty quick, for the most part. We've only had issues with one waitress who tends to cater more to her regulars than customers she's not familiar with. We walked out on one occasion because of this (we only have a 1-hour lunch and it had already been 20 minutes... we knew we wouldn't get our order placed and to us with enough time to get back to the office). Usually we can get in and out of there in under an hour, which is always nice. read more

The Grinch apparently has taken over at the Beach Diner on San Jose. I'm so disappointed in them. It was dad's favorite so we'd go there on Sundays at least once or twice a month. They haven't been very friendly the past couple of months. It's very disappointing to see them go south like this. I really like to support mom and pop shops, so maybe Beach is to the point where mom and pop have lost their influence. Tell me if this is to critical: 20 minutes to take our order. Then server complains about how staff people are sick, so they're short handed. Manger sees you approach to pay, so he real quick turns his back and walks out to deliver a food order to another store in the strip mall. Or how about this: 2 staffers standing 6 feet from the register. You stand there for 10 minutes wondering if anyone is going to ring you up. I just don't like it when the staff treats you like they're doing you a favor by letting you pay them. You know? But when the Grinch closes ONE HOUR early right in your face on Christmas Eve, does the staff really benefit by closing an hour early? Well, we found a great place down the street that didn't close in our face that's our new place. Sorry Beach. We'll stop by again next Christmas and see if you learned your lesson. read more

After reading the previous reviews this place is clearly spotty. We were very disappointed with our meal. My friend and I went for a quick bite to eat. I ordered the bayou eggs benadict, egg shells galore in my poached eggs. Not quite sure how that happened but it did. I thought it was to have shrimp and crab, no shrimp. Fruit salad accompanied, the watermelon was old and the canteloup and honeydoo were not ripened. Our server delivered our meals and never came back to check on us except to deliver the bill. No refill on drinks. Zippo. With so many options in this area, we will not be returning. Overall extremely disappointing. Mgmt needs to start paying attn. read more

I've been to Beach Diner 2 or 3 times before and ordered off the lunch menu with satisfaction. I love their fries. This last weekend, My Mom and I went for breakfast. We waited about 20 minutes. The place was pretty busy with the church crowd. Our server was obvisouly overwhelmed. I had to ask twice for water, straw (he just dropped off my water and went onto the next table) and our check. I ordered a breakfast combo with a little bit of everything..... and everything on my plate was completely overcooked. My Mom ordered the same thing and all her items were overcooked as well. My eggs were browned, my homefries were tough on the outside and dark and my bacon was like jerky. I didn't send it back because I thought it would take forever to get a replacement meal. This place could be great if they could figure out how to manage a busy time. I like both their lunch and breakfast menus but the service needs some improvement. Our server said he would take our credit card to the front for us and never returned. I have no problem taking my check up to pay on the way out, but don't say you'll take it and have us sit there for 10 minutes while you're checking your text messages on yoru phone in the kitchen. I find that to be terribly anoying to see staff visibly on their smart phones while I'm waiting for things I asked for. read more

This is one of my favorite places for breakfast and I'm partial to their Eggs on the Bayou, which is a crab-laden eggs benedict. But the other day I went for brunch and ordered a traditional Ruben sandwich with fries, and I was completely underwhelmed. My favorite version of the Ruben sandwich is the Blue Max at European Street and the one at the Beach Diner was sad by comparison. I'd recommend the breakfast at Beach Diner, but I'm not sure I'll ever order from their lunch menu again. Sorry. read more

Perfect chicken salad... it lives here. I must say I'm a chicken salad snob and Beach Diner has one of the best recipes in Jax, or that I've ever tasted for that matter. I can't bring myself to get anything else from the lunch menu, it's sooo good. They also offer up tasty homecooked breakfast. Everything is always fresh. Service is great, the servers are sweet and helpful. The sweet tea is magical, somehow. To those reviewers who knock the Sunday service... if you're looking to get Sunday brunch in Northeast Florida, it would just not be of common sense to expect NOT TO WAIT. Easy 4 stars. I highly suggest calling ahead and putting your name on the wait-list as it seems to be a busy locale. Make sure you get there when they call you as they will take you off the list if you miss your name being called. If you log on using foursquare you can enjoy a free coffee while waiting...nice! I highly recommend the french fries - the have some incredibly delicious coating making them easily the best fries I've ever had (yes the BEST...so get them). I had a chicken salad pita which was pretty good -although a bit mayonnaisey for me ..and a slight bit salty...not perfect but still good. The fruit sides looked great too - with fresh strawberries, pineapple etc.. Service was a little slow - although as I mentioned the place was busy...we needed to remind our server to refill our drinks a few times. Was down in the area visiting a friend who just moved to the location, and found this little diner to grab lunch. Everyone who worked here was friendly, the place was clean and bright. I fully enjoyed my experience here. I wasn't sure what to expect from walking in (not being used to Florida, the Shopping Center look outside throws me off). They were great. Had a small town feel, with a beach vibe. I got an italian sandwich, called the Godfather (loved that bit of humor), while my friend ate the Meatloaf special. Everything tasted great. Fully recommend the Godfather, you just can't refuse it. Hopefully, I'll be back in the area more, and will stop in for some breakfast as well. It was my first time here. From the moment we arrived, the server was attentive and welcoming. The menu is awesome. It's got all kinds of sandwiches, breakfast items, and the good ol basics you need for a perfect breakfast, brunch or lunch. Food was better than I expected from a diner. We used to go to beaches for breakfast all the time to meet up with our friend, still do occasionally. We all love their coffee. The whole wheat bread is amazing! If your looking for breakfast they have pretty normal options. We usually get chicken and eggs. They add a great seasoning on the chicken (It's not on the menu, they ring it up as the pork chop/ eggs) If your going their for breakfast- Their chicken salad is great and the shrimp Pita is amazing. Everything tasted like grease. My scrambled eggs came out runny, so they remade them. When I got them it tasted like greasy eggs, and absolutely no seasoning or salt. The pancakes where some of the WORST I have ever had, the tasted like flour mixed with dirty dish water. The bacon was OK, its hard to mess up bacon, but it had the weird greasy flavor the eggs had. This beach diner location on San Jose used to be my boyfriend and I's favorite breakfast place. The food is excellent besides the fact the past 2 times we received hair in our food when we got our food to go. Kind of disappointing. Also there has been several times where this blonde girl has been rude to us and we have witnessed her being rude to other tables. She looks like she doesn't ever want to be there. We do want to recognize our server we receive every time, jordyn. She is awesome, she's very pleasant, and very attentive. Also The food never comes out wrong. I ordered the fried pork chops, fried green tomatoes, sautéed squash and corn bread. the pork chops looked awesome but unfortunately they where dry and tough. When the server checked on how I was doing and asked how the food was I told her the meat was dry and tough but every thing else was great. She had the manager stop by my table and they offered a replacement meal. I was in a rush so I didn't have time to wait I declined the offer, to my surprise they compensated me for the entire meal. It had been awhile since we've been here after moving a bit further out and just don't eat out as much with 3 under 7 but we had a great experience this morning. It was just my wife, our 1 1/2yo, and I. We recently found out the little guy has an allergy to eggs so we are a bit green in figuring out where and what he can eat. Instead of the usual eye roll at other places, the waitress was great and took the time to check and recheck if the pancakes had eggs in them (which they did) and was very sweet about it. Our food was great, we were in and out in less than 45 mins, and had no problem finding stuff for him since he is happy with just about anything. Awesome grits!
