Instead of writing the same review practically twice, I would like to refer you to Brittany C's review. I am the friend she was with when she went to beach diner. It was my first visit and I won't be returning as well. Aside from her review, I would like to point out that I am a restaurant manager so I do see things a little differently. I feel like customer service is everything and as crazy as it sounds some people will go to a place that has mediocre food if they get treated with respect. I feel as though at beach diner we didn't even get that. When I got up to use the restroom and I had noticed our server was sitting with a gentleman she had been serving after she had not come back to check on our food and drinks that really made me frustrated. That's when I asked the hostess for our check. I then noticed the hostess went and looked for our server, printed our check, our server went and got the gentlemans food she had been sitting with all that time then came and got our bill and our debit cards, she then came back, gave us our receipts and then went and checked to make sure that same gentleman was ok. I don't see what was so special about him that he got special service compared to my friend and I. You should treat all of your tables the same. I think they either need to have a long talk with that girl or let her go. That's what I would do as a manager, your profit is based off of customer service and great product and after this visit I feel like they have neither. read more

I just had breakfast at Beach Diner for the first time. Needless to say, it was awful and I will not be back again. Me and my best friend both came to Beach Diner for the first time this morning. When I first came in I was seated quickly and a very nice hostess took my drink order and brought it to me. Then, a different waitress came over and took our order. She brought us our food. We both ordered home fries with our meal and discovered that there were onions in the home fries. Both me and my best friend do not eat onions and mentioned to the waitress that we didn't like them and did not know that they came in the home fries. She laughed and said "oh yeah we make our home fries with onions" and walked off. She did not offer to make it correct by asking if we'd like a new order. That was the last time we saw our waitress until we had to go up to the hostess and ask for our check. The waitress never came by to check on us or to refill our drinks the whole time we were there. She was left a total of a $1.00 tip because she would not even come back to the table so I could get change for a five dollar bill. In my opinion, that's the tip she deserved to get because she was awful. It's funny because the whole time this was going on she was sitting at another table with other customers socializing and not doing her job. As for the food, I wasn't impressed. There was a hair in my best friends food as well which is absolutely disgusting. I would much rather go down the street to Metro Diner and I know I would have had a better meal with way better customer service. I was excited to try Beach Diner since today was my first time there, but I was very disappointed. I will not be back and I will be warning others of this establishment. read more

Driving around one Saturday looking for yard sales, I found this gem on San Jose and was very happy with the choice I made. As a fan of chicken salads, I ordered the Chunky Chicken Melt sandwich. I didn't realize when I ordered it that it came with raw onion in it. Warm sandwich you would think cooked warm onions. When I got the sandwich and realized it had raw onions in it, I advised the waiter that I needed it without onions. He was awesome and took it back and came out with another perfect sandwich (without the onions). The sandwich was full of chicken salad and very tasty. I will be definitely going back to try more items on the menu. read more

What can I say about The Beach Diner. Well I'm no where near the beach but I do know where they started. The place is nice squeezed in a small strip center in Mandarin. It is nice inside and I was in need of something quick and easy. I went with a breakfast sandwich to go. The lady that helped me was pleasant and gave me my coffee. Sorry guys this stuff was not the best. I'm a local guy and drink local coffee. You know that big plant on the river downtown. My sandwich didn't take long and it was pretty tasty. But, then you can't mess up an bacon, egg, and cheese on wheat toast very easily. Simple, easy and out the door before work munchies handled. read more

We went here for breakfast one morning while we were in town visiting family. Even though it was very busy, we were seated right away. The server was prompt and friendly. I love this place. 20 of use met at 8:00am the first day of school for breakfast. The food was delicious and the service amazing. I had Lox and Bagel and it was fresh and beautiful presentation. I visited the Beach Diner on San Jose for breakfast. I ordered the three-egg Western omelette. It was prepared exactly the way I like it: soft, fluffy and firm but not over cooked, like omelettes tend to be. I would have given this dish 4 stars, except, for the slice of processed cheese food slapped on top. Why not real shredded cheddar cheese inside the omelette with the other ingredients? I actually really liked this place, it's a nice alternative to your cookie cutter Denny's and IHOP type breakfast environments. They're only open till like 2pm so everyone seems happy to be there. The food is pretty good, nice American portion size! I've been here a few times and have personally only ordered their omelettes - they're just omelettes, nothing special but nicely priced and eggy goodness! Absolutely a Fan. Nearby "Diner" claims to be the diner of "locals". But the Beach Diner on San Jose Blvd is the REAL LOCAL of NATIVES. They don't need to advertise they are local they just are local. I on the other hand am new to the area and absolutely love the diner. It's REAL. The staff is spot on and they work hard and friendly. Spouse and I have eaten breakfast and lunch here. The Veggie Wrap is delicious. The Omelets and the "Godfather" Sandwich is to die for..... Parking it easy because of the plaza. You will not be disappointed if you are looking for a REAL DINER from Jacksonville. We will be back. read more

I've been coming to Beach Diner since I moved to Jacksonville in 2003. This is my favorite breakfast place and I'm such a regular here that the staff know me by name. The staff is very friendly, customer service is perfect. The staff takes pride in making sure each visitor leaves here happy. This is my favorite Sunday morning breakfast spot! My parents live in Mandarin and often suggest the Beach Diner when I am in town visiting. I have been here for breakfast and lunch and it has never disappointed. Last time I visited Beach Diner, I went for the French Toast, which was fantastic. I also recommend the Tuna Melt if you are in for lunch. The service is always fast and the wait is never too long. Not a horrible place, but nothing special. It's very southern cooking, both breakfast and lunch. Typical meat loaf, overcooked carrots, greens, etc. type food for lunch. Breakfast is pretty standard eggs and bacon fare, nothing as creative as you can get at other places like Metro Diner. Mostly it always feels a little bit dirty to me. Service is usually good, but not spectacular. Never had a horrible experience here, but nothing memorable either. Guess that's why I don't visit very often. That being said, others seem to love this place because weekend breakfast packs full and line is out the door by 9 AM! read more

Great breakfast/lunch spot in Mandarin. Last time I went, I enjoyed the Mexican omelette (made with egg whites) and wasn't disappointed. Large portion & all the veggies seemed very fresh. They even brought me extra salsa on request. I have also had the belgian waffles that are simply sinful. The service is quick & attentive & prices quite reasonable. I must say it is incredibly it incredibly difficult to screw up breakfast, but Beach Diner, has succeeded at something at least. After being misinformed by 10 minutes in regards for the wait on our table we were given a mediocre menu with items worth far less than what they sold it for. The waitress was friendly enough but the food took extra long. To make the experience worse my girlfriend was given burnt pancakes and a sausage patty that seemed fresh from the Jimmy Dean packaging and microwaved. Absolutely disappointed! Called 15minutes ahead, was asked my name to take a reservation, gave my name, got there and was about to get a table until the head host (really nasty & mean) refused for us to sit down. The host I spoke to on the phone told the manager my name & to write it down. He didn't even wrote it down & when he saw we had trouble, he admit to the host not writing my name down but will put me back at the bottom of the list now and wait an extra 20minutes. So I asked him: why ask my name and all instead of just telling me: we don't take reservation! His face turned blank and he just didn't have any explanation. Then try to explain to me that they didn't reservation, again. I told that yes I understand but why ask my name and all then? No explanation. MEANS & RUDE STAFF!!!!! Will never go back! I just love a yummy breakfast diner and Beach Diner falls into that category. It isn't the world's most unique menu, but it is classic breakfasts foods done well. Bestie and I came here after a night of partying in July. Had a really great breaksfast. Coffee was yummy which is a big thing after a night out. All and all, above-par decent diner food. Some reviewers knock the coffee. While it's not great and is in fact run-of-the-mill, but I've definitely had worse coffee at other diners. The Shrimp and Crab Meat omelette was great. I had asked them to hold the Hollandaise but they didn't. The waitress saw that and immediately offered to take it back but I decided to eat it after tasting it. I would definitely go back again. It's a strong runner-up to the Metro Diner up the road. I'd like to see more options on the menu without bread and maybe sweet potato fries. read more

This seems to be a favorite for locals and my father being one of them took me here today. The appearance is tidy and clean, very light and bright with the beach theme. Our server was friendly and efficient. I had the salmon with Wasabi and avocado on rye and oh my goodness, it was soon yummy. If you like sashimi you will love this sandwich. The fries were seasoned and crispy. Dad had the fish and cheese grits with eggs and ate it up. Of course he usually has that when he visits this cafe. That meal came with a huge, flaky, and golden battered filet of fish that was light and airy and delicious. Good value, Good price, good location to stop in if you are out and about Mandarin, or definitely worth a special trip. Make sure you get there before 2pm as they close after that. read more

Its OK- barely. They dont teach their help how to use a bus tub when clearing a table. They dont sweep the floor under a table if it needs it. They may have 5 empty tops yet they let the customer back up at the door so- just seat yourself. On the whole it needs real managers who teach the staff how a restaurant works. The wait staff makes no money if you dont turn the tables over. This is basic restaurant 101 and they fail- or they just dont care read more
