A Blight on Downtown HB. Huntington Beach is a tourist destination, so of course we need souvenir shops. Beach Island could be a decent one: it has a typical assortment of trinkets and t-shirts, but what makes it truly terrible is the staff. From the moment you walk in, you will get the unshakable feeling that you are being watched, and that's because you are. Every step you take, the workers are almost always on your heels, following you through the store, making sure you're not stealing their overpriced junk. Beach Island is the punchline of many local jokes, as nearly anyone who has stepped inside the store has been a target of the staff's hostile suspicion. Some would say they're looking out for their shop, and of course that's true. I don't know, maybe they've been at it too long and they regard every single person who walks through the door as an arch-criminal, and it's really a bit much. To aggressively stalk customers through the store with open suspicion...it's disturbing, it's unnecessary, and it's profoundly off-putting. Maybe it's time to just sell the store and retire. Let someone who doesn't hate the public have a chance to make it a part of the community, instead of a pariah. read more

This place has so many Huntington beach souvenirs at a decent price, their clothing is Quality as I've been shopping here for years! Staff could be a bit friendlier. Definitely worth stopping in and taking a look before you shop at the big surf stores if you are just looking for HB apparel or fair priced souvenirs. read more

A girlfriend and I were finishing up our trip and looking for some t-shirts to bring to her kids so we decided to stop in this shop. She wanted 2 matching shirts but her kids' sizes are a bit different and she didn't want to mess up all the t-shirts that were nicely folded. The 2 Asian ladies (this will matter in a minute) that worked there seemed to be hovering around us as there was no one else in the store so she asked them about the sizing and remarked to not wanted to have to unfold the shirts for them (trying to be nice and not make more work). That's when the one Asian female abruptly made a comment about the sizing and then said something in Korean to the other lady. Little did she know my girlfriend speaks Korean... and she decided to call us a Stupid B*$%#. All for asking a question and trying to be kind. We immediately left. I choose to shop at business' that are operated by minorities. But when treated like this, you can bet they will never ever in a million years get my business. So, if you want to be looked down upon and talked about in a language you may or may not understand all for asking a innocent question, by all means, shop at this store. read more

They had decent selection but the way they treated my family left such a bad taste in my mouth that I could never recommend them with a good conscience. My kids were trying to decide which cap to buy and this gray haired korean dude comes up to them hovering around, glaring at my wife, and kids. I guess he felt that we overstayed and he was trying to make us feel uncomfortable enough to leave his store. read more

If you find yourself on Main Street and need to pick up a souvenir, this shop is worth visiting. However... if you change your mind later and want a refund, FORGET IT. Exchanges only, though I didn't notice a sign saying that. I had bought a HB logo cap and decided a few days later that another of the store's items (happened to cost less) would make a better gift. The clerk, likely the owner, wasn't very nice or understanding when I explained I didn't want anything else in the store to make up the cost difference. She kept saying "exchange only," and finally I said, pleasantly, "Why don't you just give me back my money?" Finally she did but in the meantime she botched a chance to make a friend or encourage repeat business. I won't be going back. Get your HB souvenir from a vendor on the pier. read more

There has to be at least one designated souvenir shop at every touristy attraction, and it would seem that Beach Island is that shop on Main Street, HB. At least, it's the biggest. It's that place where you'd take your out-of-town friends to get their obligatory seashells, fridge magnets, t-shirts, hoodies, snowglobes, christmas tree ornaments, postcards, and all that other junk tourists love, that has "Huntington Beach", "Surf City", "OC", or "California" printed on it somewhere. You know, in case they need to prove they've been here. 'Cause that would be so incredible, if they claimed they'd been to Huntington Beach, they'd be like "OMG I can't believe it I saw Justin Bieber texting at the Pier and a huge shark came out of nowhere and bit off his left buttock!" and their friends would be like, "No Way", and they'd be like, "Way! Here's my OC t-shirt to prove it." Then their friends would have to shut up, because the power of silkscreening is admissable in court. They sell sunscreen here also. read more

They had a very large number of items on sale, so I asked the gentleman at the front if he would consider taking $10 off for an approximately $100 purchase of regular-priced merchandise. He rudely responded by laughing. Lots of other shops in the area. Avoid this one. read more

Beach Island - Department Stores Near Me - Huntington Beach, California

This is one of the best kept secrets around if your looking for something that says HB Huntington Beach on it, they have it all. Local artist and everything that has to do with the beach Souvenirs of all kinds, T-Shirts, Tanks Tops, Decals and Stickers, and my favorite shell shop, shark teeth, bottle openers, glasses, mini surf boards, key chains, flip flops, sun visors, towels, and really great local artist displays of all kinds types and colors to match any décor. This is where I get all my cool shells they cost $1.25 to $4.25 for the big shells. Sand Dollars different types, Star Fish, and so much more. They have a great Mermaid collection to, and the merchant is negotiable if your spending more then $50, we got 2 mermaids statues for $50 out the door, and my mom loved them. So much to see there and lots of souvenirs shot glasses, signs, neckless, you name it they got it. This is the place for Souvenirs and they support the local artist too. I sneak in occasionally and buy a few shells to add to my collection and see what the locals artist are making this week. Such a great place. read more

Very Good prices for a shop like this. GREAT selection. The employees are friendly and helpful. The prices are just right. I always bring people out of town to Huntington for the day and then here. They buy tons of stuff for back east. Also a huge bonus for a place like this is that they TAKE DEBIT / CREDIT for SMALL PURCHASES. No $10.00 minimum. There is a sign that says $5.00 but if your kind to them they will waive it. No hassle. I've seen people buy JUST a fridge magnet here, no problem. read more

Yes, this is a tourist shop ;- however after walking HB sidewalk sales of other clothing stores on the same street...which by the way with 40-50% off were mostly XS sizes....and still expensive...this store makes it affordable. Has a great selection of things and something for everyone. Only other place to buy inexpensive HB / CA items is Wal-Mart. So...take it for what it's worth....get family members around country items here - they love them and that's all that matters.... read more
