I was so excited to try this place after reading the great reviews. We tried it this morning for breakfast. The place is so cute and inviting. They really did a great job remodeling it and designing. Our server was friendly and offered a great description of the specials. We order a latte and cappuccino with our meal. They were wonderful and had a pretty design in the foam which is alway good. Sadly the coffee was one of the best things we had. We had the raspberry mascarpone French toast and lemon ricotta pancakes for our meal. We also tried an order of the turkey sausage. Both meals were just okay, nothing special. I was expecting the French toast to be studded with the filling but it was served on top like butter and was really bland. I couldn't even identify raspberry in there. The sausage was barely warm when it was brought to the table. The lemon blueberry jam that came with the pancakes was a highlight. I wish I had just ordered toast and a bunch of that! The tables around us had food that looked delicious. Maybe we just didn't make the best choice when ordered. Might go back again and try lunch. The food is wonderful! I really love the omelettes if you're looking to be healthy. You can choose up to 5 ingredients without incurring an extra charge. Their sweeter menu items are sooooo good, but I TRY to avoid the sugar. So good though! The servers are really nice and helpful and the prices are reasonable, given the quality. They have a nice outdoor area for when it's sunny out. If you come on a Sunday morning, expect a little late. We had a great experience today and I think this is the first weekend they've officially been open- so that says a lot! I had the breakfast biscuit sandwich which was super delicious. The biscuit in particular was really fresh and soft. I also got to to try their coffee cake. It was moist and dense, not dry like a lot of coffee cakes tend to be. I definitely recommend it! This place is pretty much just ok. I've been here twice and I haven't really gotten anything that I really liked. I love eggs benedict, so the first time I came in that's what I ordered. It was ok, but the muffin they put them on was really sweet and made the whole dish taste weird. Luckily my friend ordered sourdough bread with her meal so I just took the muffins out from underneath mine and replaced it with the sourdough. While they gave a lot of potatoes, I would tend to agree with the majority saying the portion size for this was no equivalent to the price they charged. Yesterday I ordered the "Thanksgiving for breakfast" which was a stuffing waffle with turkey and cranberry relish. The turkey was really dry, the "gravy" was really runny and the stuffing was good but really salty. The cranberry relish was really tart and something I didn't even want to eat with my meal. This meal was $12.95 and I have no idea why because it was probably worth $8-$9 at most. My friend ordered make your own omelet both times and was happy with her choice, so maybe that's the way to go. The service has been pretty good both times, so that's also a good sign. It can be pretty hard to find parking too, so it's best if you come early. read more

Amazing service and the food was excellent! Food portions were large. We had the chicken and waffles, tuna melt with clam chowder, migas with potatoes, strawberry short stacks, and the breakfast burrito with bacon. Their drip coffee was great. I'd argue about the overhype of this place, as a local, born on the west side and had eaten at many of the San Diego favorites and well known, this is just another basic brunch to add to my mediocre list. I had anticipated much much more from a place like this. I was recommended from a couple of friends and family to try this place at least once and this just might be one of lowest ratings I have given on here. My partner and I first arrived at the door to be seated in less than a few minutes,(there was plenty of people so I'm guessing this wasn't busy for them ). Anyways, I've gotten a few stares from the people inside( both workers and people) and it wasn't friendly..shocker. When we sat down we waited a couple of minutes until our server Megan came over and asked for our drinks and my partner ordered an almond vanilla latte and sure enough this came way after our food had gotten to us. our food came 15 minutes later and then the drink came after 20. Oh about the food, it wasn't worth over the price we paid for which was $13. It lacked hollandaise sauce, the potatoes were kind of cold, and the biscuit were hard. Additionally, our server didn't look over at us over the multiple times she passed by us. We didn't get a separate plate for a couple of minutes since we were splitting a plate together. I hope this isn't the true surface of this place. People need to come here and try to give an honest review and not try to get in the hype train. I would recommend Mama Kats or Campfire for a good breakfast. read more

This is my second time at BPK. My first time was mediocre but understandable because it was opening day which meant they were seeking open feedback from folks. Today I had coconut French toast. That was by far the best part of the experience. The dish was pretty good, definitely better than the first time I had when it was a bit dry so I'll give them that. The drinks, however, we're not good at all. As a lover of all things wine, I decided to go for the white sangria. Big mistake. It was by far the worst sangria I've had. It was obvious it was made using cheap wine, definitely not fruity or even slightly sweet. Tasted a bit like diluted vodka if I'm being honest. After the waitress finally asked about it, she took it and said she would take it off the bill. Ok I thought, maybe she'll recommend something else. Nope she just took it, proceeded to actually taste it in the back (girl didn't even bother to do it discretely. There are windows looking into the kitchen and I'm pretty sure even sipping on alcohol isn't permissible) . My friend also wasn't too happy with her vanilla latte. All in all, I expected better. Our favorite breakfast place in Carlsbad. Ask for Scot or Alicia- they are awesome and always greet us with a smile or by name! I love the smoked salmon on potato pancakes, ask for the cakes to be well done! They have a gluten free muffin as a bread choice! Gluten free bread is very good. Jenny, the owner, is a star, and a wonderful lady. My wife and I used to enjoy coming to this restaurant because of her. The last time we visited was a different situation. Jenny was not there, and there was a tall man in charge who was pre-occupied with his I-Pad (we've seen him there before doing nothing but looking at his I-Pad), and he turned out to be the most unfriendly, unattached person I have ever met. We had a minor issue with our meal, and he reluctantly came to our table, and was very indifferent to us. This was shocking behavior and unacceptable. I've owned several businesses over the years, and know that the key to success is customer service and just being polite and courteous. He would have none of that. We really feel for Jenny because she not only has a well-trained wait staff, but also works hard and is a joy to be around. We still have some points accumulated because we used to visit quite often, but that has stopped because we no longer feel welcome. Pork belly hash and corned beef hash was delicious ... burrito is huge ... Our 10 & 11 old boys each ordered 1 .... share if you can ... coconut almond French toast was okay not our favorite ... lattes are good ... coffee is strong. 3 Omelette is good size our 17 & 14 years girls finished most if it. It is beautifully decorated with a casual but well themed decor based on the beach plum As promised, they delivered fantastic egg omelettes that are healthy and fresh. The children's meal has many healthy choices. The array of fresh juice flavors and great coffee were also highlights. Their homemade spreads are flavorful and unique. First off this place is my go to breakfast spot I literally crave the food here. I strongly suggest that you download the NoWait app for your smartphone to help you move through the line faster. (Make sure to check in when you get there or you will be skipped until you do.) seating does move pretty fast when we arrived there were 16 people ahead of us it took us around 26min to be sat. On the last visit I had the best service I have ever received and I'm sorry I don't remember his name but I will look for it and do an update. This visit...we had a curly haired girl that kept her hair in a bun. Let me tell you no personality. Her service was extremely poor I had to wait over 10min to get a drink refill made it seem that we were inconveniencing her for anything that we asked for. We were watching how she treated her other tables and it was the same if not worse. Let's get to the good stuff!!!! The food!!!! The Corned Beef Hash is out of this world if this is your first time try it you will not regret it. I get mine with poached eggs which are made to perfection with farm fresh eggs. The breakfast sausage links leaves you craving them for hours!!! I also tried the biscuit and gravy side which I have to say has taken the spot as the best I've ever had!!!! There consistency is perfect and the sage flavor is right on!!! Let's just say that this place is great I strongly suggest it. I do understand our waitress may have had a bad day or been overwhelmed. Called and hostess told us there was a 15 minute wait. Asked for our phone number. We got there almost 30 minutes later and we were lectured that we needed to check in first before and that it would be about another 10 min wait. The way it was communicated was like we were school children. We were seated a few minutes later and I ordered the special- bread pudding French toast which was not like bread pudding at all but dry French toast on multigrain bread (not soaked at all). The fruit that it said it was served with consistented of a few TINY prices of strawberry and some blueberries. The greek yogurt was very good but only given a small amount. The other dish that we ordered was the vegetable omelette. Not seasoned at all...easily something I could make it home. The server was great and apologized because our food took almost 30 minutes to arrive and took some money off the bill. He asked us while we were waiting if we wanted something and I asked for the homemade buttermilk biscuit. Again, very disappointed but the jam was delicious. Chai latte was way too sweet for my taste. Don't understand the fuss about this place. Glorified diner. read more

The menu has a lot of different options and so much of it sounds delicious! You could have a big hearty meal or a lighter meal. The menu could appeal to a variety of eaters. From biscuits and gravy to iced coffee to strawberry shortcake pancakes to scrambled eggs with a muffin, everything we have ordered tastes fantastic. They don't seem to skimp on any part of the meal. All the "fluffy- NOT like a piece of cardboard" goodness that is so often lacking in my GF world, with whipped butter melting happiness. They have natural ingredients sourced and treated to make your karma and healthy sensibilities glow too. This is my go to breakfast restaurant in Encinicas/La Costa area. I usually get an omelette but the hashes are also excellent. Quality ingredients and good service. Great coffee cake and biscuit and gravy. Their biscuits are like grandma used to make. Flavorful and fluffy. Not heavy. Kids loved their choc chip pancakes.
