I went here to eat with some friends around 10am on a Sunday and there was a little bit of a wait. Nothing crazy though and I was actually happy with how fast we were seated for having 5 people in the party. Also they had free coffee and samples of their coffee cake outside for people waiting... It was a nice touch especially because THIS GUY LOVES COFFEE CAKE... Ok???? Ambiance is great... Not too loud. Servers and staff super friendly. I never had to wait to have my coffee refilled (good coffee too!) I had eaten a little breakie earlier at home so I didn't get eggs w my breakfast and ordered the Chocolate Chip pancakes (they come w ice cream but I opted against that - gotta watch my figure), some applewood bacon and one of their buttermilk biscuits (kind of throws the whole idea of watching what I eat out the window but meh...) I took a picture of all three - at first I gave a thumbs down pic to the pancakes BC I thought they just sprinkled chocolate chips on top - but they actually put them inside the pancake - the way it SHOULD be done!!) I just didn't think they added enough lol. They were above average pancakes... The biscuit was excellent and the bacon was non fatty and a lot of the "good bacon" meat. Good prices too... Not outrageous... Pretty similar to my favorite local spot SWAMI's in terms of price. It was a cool spot and I'm glad I went. I gave 4 stars just because I Don't want to take away from some FIVE star joints I've been to for breakie... But don't let that dissuade you from this little gem in Carlsbad (La Costa). read more

What can I say about this place? My husband and I consider it our absolute favorite place for breakfast. We come here at least 2-3 times a month for the last year and a half or so. You could say we're regulars and have seen just about everything. First, even when it's busy, the wait is never long (and it's always worth it!). Some of the friendliest and most efficient staff work here - we are regularly amazed by how quickly we get seated and get our food out to us. Many times we can be in and back out in under 30 minutes, and never feeling rushed. We often see the owners walking around. I love a place where everyone (from busser to owner) is on the floor. There is no one above pouring a cup of coffee or clearing a plate, and it's a very evident positive staff culture they have in place. We tend to have our usual breakfast and split an omelet (our go-to is with ham, bacon, cotija cheese, spinach, and poblano peppers - to die for!). I usually get a biscuit on the side, the hubs goes for a biscuit and gravy. Let's start with the biscuit and gravy. O. M. G. It's phenomenal. If you don't enjoy the flavor of herbs, you won't like it. It's a different kind of gravy than you usually find out there, but it's those herbs that make it special. Biscuits and gravy tend to be our tester dish when we try a new place, and we have yet to find another to rival the one at Beach Plum. It's unique and delicious! The omelet: I love it because unlike what you find in most breakfast places, this omelet isn't drowning in cheese. It's always perfectly cooked, and with a generous helping of the fillings we pick. We love our go-to combo, and find it hard to try new variations. But we have tried lots of other things here... The Beach Plum Waffle: with tangerine infused olive oil and honey. Say WHAT?! Totally unexpected, and amazingly flavorful. Try it. We have ordered this several times on the side of the omelet we split. Again, it's a unique twist that makes the dish so special and delicious. Another twist on this is to order the blueberry waffle with the olive oil and honey. You're welcome in advance. Lemon Ricotta Pancakes: these come with a sweet lemony spread over the top (the pancake itself is not flavored). Super delicious! I like ordering this in lieu of the usual side of potatoes or toast. More sweet than tart, but very yummy. Migas/Hash/Chilaquiles - my husband has tried all of these, and he loves to go for the current special offering. Again, nothing but love for each and every one of these dishes. We could go on and on, but the omelet just arrived and it's time to dig in. And the coffee is pretty good, too! read more

Another great breakfast at Beach Plum restaurant today! Love their outdoor seating area and the heaters are great on a 60 degree day. Omelets, chicken and waffles, pancakes and country potatoes all cooked perfectly. Food was so tasty it was gone before I could snap pictures. Beach plum is a great casual yet upscale breakfast, brunch, and lunch spot in La Costa just off El Camino Real. Owned by the same folks that brought us the amazing Tin Leaf literally in the same shopping center, beach plum is a great place for the whole family. Great coffee, great coffee cake, and the BEST chicken and waffles I've ever had. I've also done their lobster roll for lunch, SO GOOD. The decor is very modern and cape cod-esque. Friendly wait staff, comfortable seating, and they have blankets in case you sit outside and the morning gloom hasn't burned off yet. Very nice. Very cute restaurant! We stopped by for brunch after catching a movie at Cinepolis. We are never an ideal party with a million kids running around. Although I preferred to eat in the adorable indoor part, my cousin (birthday girl) wanted outside. The patio isn't too large, but it was accommodating. The decor inside was stylish and classy, I loved the deep purple colors. I had the corn beef hash. It was definitely a different approach to the dish. It was more like a mix of breakfast potatoes, pieces of corn beef, and then some other vegetables. It was made really well, but i prefer actual hash browns and more chopped corn beef. The corn beef pieces were so big. The fluff of scrambled eggs on top was a nice touch. Great presentation of the meal. The strawberry jam for the toast wasn't sweet enough. This is a brunch spot only...they closed at 3pm that day. Good brunch spot, I've had better, but worth trying if I'm in the area again. read more

Went in for a late breakfast on a hot June morning. Got there and was immediately excited to sit in the patio. We called in advance and asked if dogs were ok and they said they were. We were quickly seated and our friendly server came right over and offered to bring a water dish for our dog. She returned promptly with a dish and took our drink order. My lady got a Michelada and I got a Soju-Mary... the drinks were delicious, however the michelada came out with no ice and especially since it was a hot day, it coulda used some. For food we ordered Chilaquiles with a fried egg and my lady's granny got chicken and waffles. The Chilaquiles was bomb, but the chicken and waffles was slightly disappointing (only because it came with fried chicken cutlets instead of nice pieces of bone-chicken. Not a big deal, but it was mentioned at the table. The entire staff was super friendly and they took care in taking care of us and our dog. Overall it was an awesome experience and we'll return! Came here on a Sunday morning with a group at seven and they said the wait time would be about 20 to 30 minutes which seems about normal in the morning. The weight ended up being about 25 minutes so that was good. Parking was pretty full so had to park at the far end of the parking lot to walk over. We had two servers and both did an amazing job always checking on us to make sure we had everything we needed. They took our drink order right away we had our drinks with in a couple minutes. There's a lot of good options on the menu to choose from for breakfast and I ended up getting the Bens breakfast burrito. I ended up adding bacon into it because bacon makes everything that much better. The burrito came fairly quick as well as the rest of our food which was nice so we didn't have to wait too long in the sun for it. The burrito was a little bit on the small side for me but it was still really good. I like the combination of eggs bacon beans potatoes in the peppers that were in there. I also got the Hefe-mosa and I'm glad I did as it was very good to drink. Good combo of beer and oj! I'm definitely looking forward to coming back here again and trying a couple of the other items on the menu for breakfast or brunch! read more

The omelets are great!! I came here with pretty low expectations thinking it would be just overpriced bland eggs like most breakfast places, but I was very pleasantly surprised. I ordered the omelet with meat and avocado and it was very large. The waitress was nice and let me substitute the meat options for turkey instead. I came here on a whim on a Sunday afternoon because it was on the way back up to Los Angeles. The wait wasn't horrendous, or at least not anymore than what i would have expected: 30 minutes for a table for two. I will say, though, that I did put my name on the waitlist on the Yelp app 15 mins before physically arriving to the restaurant, and I still had to wait 30 minutes when i got there. So take that ad you will. The service wasn't bad (again for how busy it was). My pancakes did come out undercooked, but they gave me another order and it was fine. I did really want to try their jams though; but, the waitress was never around for me to ask if I could try them and by the time she came around, she just gave us the check without asking if we wanted anything else. Which is seriously such a bummer because i really wanted to try their jams! :( All in all, it wasn't bad. But for someone who isn't a local, I can't say that it left enough of a positive impression on me to return, especially considering the spotty service. read more

I drove up to Carlsbad from San Diego for the weekend and I wanted to check out a good breakfast spot. Beach Plum popped up upon searching and decided to check in the reviews and photos via Yelp. All looked good so I went on their website and placed my order online. I ordered a lobster roll, which came with fruit. I have lived in Maine previously, so I was aware of what a good lobster roll would taste like. Picked up my order about 25 minutes later, customer service was great! The sandwich had such a neat presentation but upon picking it up and taking a bite, literally 85 percent of the lobster fell out the sandwich. There was also a lot of liquid runoff from the sandwich, which made my bread completely soggy. The flavor I would say was a good 5/10. Not much flavor in my opinion. The dish also came with fruit, which was actually very fresh tasting. I would definitely come back here, but perhaps to try a different dish. read more

Discovered my new brunch location! The food is great with a warm and inviting atmosphere. I wanted to try everything on the menu but I decided to stick with one this time and I'll keep coming back for more. I chose the breakfast burrito and added carne asada for a few extra bucks. My boyfriend ordered the California style eggs Benedict. The burrito was huge and it was packed punch. It has peppers in it already so it had a real kick of spice. The salsa verde is also spicy so use it sparingly if you're not a spice person. They also provide you with a side of sour cream and mild red salsa. It was amazing but I wish there was more meat versus egg. I felt like the egg was the main ingredient but it was still great. The potato hash inside was also really flavorful. I tried some of the Cali eggs Benedict. It has a jalapeño hollandaise sauce which was amazing! The egg was poached to perfection. That also came with a side of potato hash. Atmosphere had a home style feel right off the cover of a magazine. They offer bar seating, tables inside or you can sit outside on the patio. I loved the decor inside, the lighting made of beach wood was super cute! Overall great experience! I'm coming back! There are so many menu items I want to try! read more

Found this cute brunch place on yelp. We wanted to eat somewhere close to the Carlsbad outlet and this came up. There was a bit of a wait since we had a big party. Luckily while waiting we were able to enjoy some good coffee and delicious coffee cake. Nice location but tough parking situation. The bf ordered pork belly hash and I ordered the mushroom and something hash... I forget. But it was the vegetarian hash dish. The pork belly has was good, a heavy meal because it was so fatty but flavorful. The mushroom hash was only ok, won't order it again. A bit bland but adding pepper, ketchup and some tapatio (I think) made it better. A bit pricey for me, but it's only once in a while... Service was ok, not great but just ok. Don't know if I'll go here again, but any place is worth a try at least once. read more

Strawberry Shortcake Pancakes Only* I've never had more delicious pancakes than I had here at Beach Plum Kitchen! The pancakes were fluffy with a hint of sweetness. The toppings were what did it for me. I don't like sugary compote and these babies stay away from that. They are topped with fresh, sliced strawberries instead! YES!! The whipped cream tasted homemade, which to me is a major bonus! It was sweet BUT I'm a Leslie Knope at heart and I wish there was mountains of whip on top! Final topping was the vanilla cream. This is where they get my approval. Some restaurants pour the sauce over your food for you. You don't know how much I want, you don't know me or my life. I really liked that they put the vanilla sauce ON THE SIDE (where it belongs!). This kept my pancakes from getting soggy but also let me add as much as I want. I love this place! They service is GREAT. Everyone on staff is very friendly and they always make an effort to make you feel comfortable even if their might be a long wait. Now, the food - get the mushroom hash! It's fantastic with the tight blend of seasonings and flavor. This is my breakfast favorite. I've also had severe dishes here including the three-egg omelette, PB&J French toast and steak with eggs which are also excellent.
