I don't know if I've ever been as excited to write a review... Let's get the negative out of the way (don't worry, it's not THAT negative). It's a smallish, local bar. You're going to witness a few townies in their natural habitat. Understand that before you walk through the door and you'll be fine. Now that that's out of the way... The food was fantastic. I am a bit of a clam chowder nut and theirs might be the best I've had. It's either them or the Chowder Bowl in Newport, I'd have to have them both in a short time frame to choose a winner. Either way, the chowder at Beachcomber is FANTASTIC! Their menu boasts that they don't skimp on the clams and they really don't - plenty of clams in this chowder. Not only that but the clams are tender, not rubbery or chewy at all. Another highlight - NO SAND! Nothing will ruin clam chowder faster than sand. Clean your clams, people. Oh, and there's apparently beer in the chowder. So there's that. After the chowder, came the burger. I ordered their Jim Beam Bacon Cheeseburger. Okay, a little pricey for a burger but once I tasted it I simply couldn't care. This was the best burger I've had in ages. It was cooked just right, you could tell that the bacon they use is of better quality than what typically gets dropped on a burger, there was the perfect amount of sauce (btw, definitely going to find me some of that Jim Beam steak sauce) and - to top it all off - they make their own buns! I have to mention as a side note that my wife ordered the french dip and she said that it was excellent as well. Beer. They have 20+ brews on tap and their selections change periodically. They have their current selections posted on a whiteboard above the bar, listed with both (in most cases) the ABV and IBU ratings for each. The beer that I was going to choose had unfortunately (more like thankfully) run dry. The server / waitress / barmaid was on top of it. She started asking me questions about what I felt like, did I like hoppy beer, etc. and then she started bringing out the samples. My wife had her mind made up early. She opted for Lost Coast Brewery's 8-Ball Stout, which she greatly enjoyed. I had to work my way through a few samples before I landed on New Belgium's Lips of Faith: La Folie Sour Brown. So good! Our server was terrific, beginning to end. She was quick, attentive and helpful through-and-through. We could not have had a more perfect dinner experience for what we were looking for on this particular evening. We will be back. read more

I rarely leave negative reviews anywhere because I feel like we are all human and we all have our bad days. However, I had the most bizarre experience with a couple of employees here today and it was incredibly disheartening. I had just arrived in Florence after a long drive and I parked behind the Beachcomber building (was going to eat there). The spot was right next to their dumpster. I pulled a couple of valuables out of the backseat to take to our vrbo and an employee approached me and said "you know, that stuff is gonna fly all over the place!" I didn't know what he was talking about, but apparently he was referring to an open bag of garbage from their bar that appeared to have fallen out of their dumpster - (it was very clearly public bathroom garbage). I politely responded "yeah, it looks like it" and went on my way, confused by his tone. When I returned about 10 minutes later, I found a nasty note on my car that said I needed to dump my garbage elsewhere, they recorded my license plate, and they are going to "turn me in". It was signed from "The Beachcomber". WTF???? I took the note inside, just to let them know that i didn't dump any garbage anywhere near their special dumpster. I politely showed the note to an employee and she took me to another employee (perhaps the manager?). I told her I wasn't sure what the note was about because I hadn't left garbage in their dumpster. She went on to tell me repeatedly that an employee SAW ME put garbage in the dumpster and she gave me that "yeah right" kind of look. Basically, she was calling me a liar and I left feeling totally bewildered. Seriously???? This is how you want to spend your energy?? I understand that things are really hard for everyone right now. They are probably experiencing a lot of stress, just like everybody else. But really. Can we try to continue to be kind to each other anyway? read more

So happy to have stumbled on this place. They had quite a few IPAs to choose from. Ordered the clam chowder and it was one of the best I've had. (I'm from Maine so am picky about my chowder!) Tried to find a dog friendly bar with a good selection of beer. Came in late afternoon had to sit out front. That was cool so was the temperature some propane heaters would be nice. Waitresses I dealt with were great. The problem was the food. We ordered fish and chips and calamari to go. The calamari was ok the fish and chips could have been better. Chips were good but got no ketchup. Got four nice pieces of cod but two were raw. We would come back and give them a second chance. read more

I've been periodically coming here for 3 years. The service is usually grouchy. It's gotten worse overtime. I used to be able to get at most 3 beverages while being made felt like I had to grovel by almost every bartender. Whichever reviewer said locals get served the best is right. You have to have the burden of going to school with some of the staff to get fast service. Tipping is a short lived way of getting good service before they stop giving you good service to remind you of how little they care. If you want complimentary service tips would be better spent at a law abiding strip club. The last 3 times I've been here I haven't been able to get one drink without groveling and I haven't been able to negotiate beyond two drinks each of the three times I've been here in three months. Tonight I ordered an orange julius with the expectation of being disappointed about the service . They didn't have it so I ordered an orange juice. I drank it.Then I order one Yeager bomb. A Yeager bomb has a shot glass of Yeager in a bigger glass of something else. I got a glass filled with Yeager and something else without a shot glass. When I asked for a shot glass I got an argument. I drank half of it and left it on the table. It was nasty. I need to stop going to The Beachcomber. If want to hear more about how you won't be served any product go here. They removed the baked jalapeño poppers and money no longer works here when trying to get a drink so my interest in this place is pretty much off. read more

Not just did I try the Dead Man's Ale on tap, which is amazing, but I also bought a bunch of beers to bring back to Cali for friends and family. Opens at 7am with arguably the best breakfast in town and a very friendly coffee clutch, and if a Bloody Mary is in order... good luck finding a better. At lunch enjoy a salad or the best shrimp melt on the coast... Lots of burgers and even a Mexican selection...and enjoy one of the hundreds or thousands of micro brews to come through here...I think they might even have a house brew.. but am not a beer drinker. At dinner This is the HOME of "STEAK NIGHT" what a 10.00 treat and the prime rib on the weekends compares to a 40.00 per plate meal for a mere fraction of the cost. In the evening it transforms to Florence's premier social "HOTSPOT" with a full service bar and entertainment galore. The staff has a knack at making every walk of life feel welcome and warm... My husband and I wanted a relaxing place to drink some beers. We stepped in and immediately felt welcomed. Great service by the sweetest server we ever met. Lots of beer choices and very cool beer tap handles all over the place. Fried greenbeans with the slightly spicy dip sauce were delicious. The hamburger my husband ate was the best we have tried in a long time. The Asian chicken salad I had was also perfect. Light and flavorful dressing made the salad.
